Half of my career.. wasted But yeah, it was fun for the most part except where we went 1-8 in the playoffs in four seasons. But nobody's even in Toronto anymore for me to say anything to. But thanks Molholt for making this work after being put in a difficult situation! Even if I think the trade should have been enforced, as a GM you always need to use the rules to your advantage. Just glad you made a deal with Stockholm work.

VHL Magazine Power Poll - GM Selection Process
Ninetyfourgoalie replied to Toast's topic in VHL.com Articles
It should be a combination that should be done on a case by case basis. There's not reason to not allow GMs to select their successors and hire from within because that often can provide a seamless transition. At the same time, all potential GMs should be vetted by the BoG, even if they are suggested by a resigning GM. In these cases, there should be some sort of interview process. In fact, the BoG should already know who strong potential candidates for a GM position are at any given time. And there should never be a reason for the BoG to reach out to anyone to see if they want to be a GM. If a previous GM does not select a successor, there should absolutely be an application process and only those who apply should be eligible. Trying to sway someone to become a GM is a recipe for disaster. It's a position someone has to want and be committed to because it's a shit ton of work to do well. -
People are saying this happened because jala is an SHL guy before he's a VHL guy. As if that would somehow be the explanation for someone who most people respected to just get up and leave like this. And I'm also not just talking about this thread. The league is very anti-SHL moreso than pro-VHL and I think that's hurt the league as the SHL has ignored the VHL until someone comes over there and shits on the SHL. Granted, this is what I've seen in a period of two months and I can't really speak much for anything beyond that time period.

And we lose a great, productive member in jala because of this. Maybe someone can answer this better but edgar asked in the Toronto LR who was interested in taking over. jala was not one of them. He was then approached because edgar's choice was apparently not good enough. Whoever thought having to approach someone who initially did not have interest in a GM position was a good idea when there were, I'm sure, plenty of qualified and interest members made a poor decision. And then we get to the trade. I had a player option. I was leaving if a deal with Stockholm wasn't figured out. I wanted to go to Stockholm but wanted to help Toronto's rebuild out at least a little bit. So before you go roasting him yet again on this deal, learn more about the circumstances. That being said, it was a shitty thing for jala to just get up and leave in the middle of the season. But as much as I was surprised that he didn't show an initial interest in GMing, I was more surprised when he was approached and named GM after choosing not to pursue it. I don't really know what else happened but knowing jala a bit, I highly doubt he just left without a good reason. Maybe chose a poor way to leave, sure, but not simply because he lost interest, I'd imagine. And I have to applaud this league for running a great smear campaign on the SHL. Kept me away for almost a year. Now I am questioning whether I'll recreate when I'm done with Poole.

An unofficial deal that would have sent defenseman Jerrick Poole to the Stockholm Vikings has, for all intents and purposes, fallen through. While there is talk that league officials are the ones who ultimately shot the deal down, one has to wonder how this came about in the first place. And was the proposed deal between the Vikings and Legion really all that bad in the first place? The answer would be no. On the surface, it would be easy to say that Toronto got fleeced. That they could have received a much better deal for Stokes, Rathod Jr., and, especially, Poole. But what is missing here is why this trade even happened in the first place. Poole had been in discussions with Stockholm GM boubabi back when he tested free agency at the end of Season 42. Opting to return to Toronto after they benefited from a massive Helsinki talent dump, the Legion went on to have a successful regular season before succumbing to the surprise champion Seattle Bears. The length of this deal was two years. Which included a player option for the second year. So now we're looking at the off-season before Season 44. Edgar had announced his plans to step down as GM. I had a player option and was free to just get up and leave Toronto with the imminent rebuild. But after talking to both Stockholm and Toronto about my position, a deal was formed that seemed to be a compromise for all three parties. Toronto would receive something instead of losing me to free agency. I would be able to leave Toronto on amicable terms, knowing I did what I could to lessen the blow. And Stockholm was able to shed some salary as they geared up for a cup run. A win-win-win situation. Or so I thought.

Last season everyone expected Brady Stropko to have a breakout year. Coming off two solid seasons to start out his VHL career, everyone around the league had him pegged to be among the league scoring leaders with a big role on a solid team. Well, midway through the season he started having issues putting in practice time and he never put much of a campaign together as he finished with a measly 36 points in 72 games, far from what the bears expected out of a first liner. Despite this disappointment, the Bears managed to overcome significant turmoil and somehow win the Continental Cup, upsetting three different teams along the way in rather dominant fashion. With his effort in practice failing to improve and a reduced role threatened, it's hard to argue with the results. In just 22 games, he already had 36 points. This just so happens to be good enough for second most points in the entire VHL. One has to wonder if he can actually sustain this run without proper conditioning but he's shown no signs of slowing down yet. Perhaps he's just superhuman? Or, more likely, he will fall hard back to Earth and settle into his future career role as a low-level first liner who will get hit hard by regression for failing to maintain his skills.

Well, I'm just writing this to get my points for the week but it's safe to say I'm quickly losing motivation here. It would be easy to say that it's because I'm a bit busier in real life than I previously was but that's only some of the problem. Nonetheless, it's becoming difficult to really want to write long articles here, something I absolutely enjoyed in the past. While my player is at a point where I could just do welfare the rest of the way and I would be the furthest thing from a bust, it almost feels like that would be quitting. So maybe it's being on the same team for now my fifth season, seeing a tremendously promising group fail to accomplish much of anything after believing we had what it would take to win a cup. I mean, to make it to the playoffs twice in four seasons is shitty. To only win one playoff game in four seasons is fucking terrible and disappointing. So maybe a change of scenery will make things better? Who knows? I can only hope.

I can't wait to look at each team's schedule and figure out which teams have the easiest schedule for the next week and then mostly pick players from those teams while making sure I stay under the cap each week but also make sure these players are getting enough playing time because now I'm going to be so much more knowledgeable about the VHL and maybe earn a couple extra TPE for this. -Nobody
