RW - Odin Tordahl Birthplace: Lillehammer, Norway Height: 6'3" Weight: 199 lbs Jersey Number: 10 Drafted: S33 (3rd Overall) TOR Username: Boom If there were ever a surefire hall of famer, Odin Tordahl would be it. He quickly became an impact player in the VHL after being selected third overall in the Season 33 VHL Entry Draft by the Toronto Legion. Spending his VHL career with four different teams, success seemed to follow him wherever her went, winning three Continental Cups with the Helsinki Titans in Season 34, HC Davos Dynamo in Season 36, and the New York Americans in Season 39. Although he enjoyed tremendous team success throughout his career, missing the playoffs just once in eight seasons, he was also adorned with various individual accolades recognizing his dominance as a player. Looking back on his career, it should come as a surprise to nobody that he was a unanimously selected first ballot hall of famer. His 94 points were fourth best on the team and were huge for the 58-win Ice Dogs, who finished the season with the VHLM's top record. After earning a first round bye, their first test was the third place Brampton Blades who, to everyone's surprise, disposed of the Ice Dogs in five games. Despite the disappointing end to the season, Tordahl's performance over the course of the season caught the attention of VHL scouts as he was one of the most highly sought-after prospects in the Season 33 VHL Entry Draft. Season 33 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: S33 (TOR) 71 GP | 23G - 23A - 46P | -12 | 265 SHT | 4 GWG | 26 PIM | 78 HIT | 4 SB Playoffs: S33 (TOR) 6 GP | 3G - 2A - 5P | -5 | 22 SHT | 0 GWG | 0 PIM | 6 HIT | 0 SB The Toronto Legion used their third overall pick, obtained after finishing second to last in the VHL in Season 32, to acquire winger Odin Tordahl. He immediately made the jump to the VHL, logging heavy minutes for the rebuilding Legion. While neither Tordahl's nor Toronto's Season 33 performance was anything to write home about, finishing with a 30-31-11 record, they managed to overcome to Quebec City Meute and earn a playoff berth. In their round one series against the Calgary Wranglers, they managed to win two games and even take a 2-1 series lead but were ultimately sent packing after six games in a series in which Calgary's talent was simply too much. Season 34 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (HEL) 72 GP | 27 G - 34 A - 61 P | +31 | 313 SHT | 1 GWG | 68 PIM | 133 HIT | 7 SB Playoffs: (HEL) 14 GP | 6 G - 5 A - 11 P | -4 | 73 SHT | 1 GWG | 20 PIM | 56 HIT | 6 SB Over the Season 33 off-season, the Helsinki Titans, owners of the league's best record before falling short in the playoffs, decided to make some changes. This included moving star forward Smooth Jive along with a second and third round selection in the Season 35 Entry Draft for Tordahl and a Toronto first round pick in Season 35, which was ultimately used to select Naomi Young. Tordahl continued to improve and began to show glimpses of his potential, picking up career highs in virtually every statistical category. After a season in which The Titans suffered a second round exit at the hands of Riga following a bye, Tordahl and Helsinki avenged their loss this time around en route to a Continental Cup as VHL champions. Season 35 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (HEL) 72 GP | 36 G - 45 A - 81 P | +52 | 358 SHT | 6 GWG | 116 PIM | 215 HIT | 14 SB Playoffs: (HEL) 12 GP | 6 G - 1 A - 7 P | +2 | 60 SHT | 2 GWG | 12 PIM | 28 HIT | 5 SB In his third season, Odin Tordahl managed to prove himself as a legitimate threat in the VHL, playing on Helsinki's top line and once again reaching career highs in a number of statistical categories. He was selected as a European Conference All-Star and the Titans would once again earn a bye in the first round of the playoffs. In the second round, they faced the Express and would advance to the finals, overcoming a 1-1 and then a 2-2 series tie. In the finals, they faced the Meute, owners of the VHL's top regular season record, but ended up falling short despite four points, including a game-winning goal, out of Tordahl. Season 36 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (DAV) 72 GP | 49 G - 57 A - 106 P | +48 | 503 SHT | 4 GWG | 208 PIM | 353 HIT | 15 SB Playoffs: (DAV) 13 GP | 8 G - 7 A - 15 P | +2 | 82 SHT | 1 GWG | 23 PIM | 63 HIT | 7 SB After the expiration of his rookie contract, Tordahl decided to explore his options and test free agency. Ultimately, he decided to sign with the young HC Davos Dynamo, unquestionably giving them a huge boost to their rebuilding process. After earning the third seed in the conference back in Season 35, Tordahl helped catapult the team to the top record in the conference and a first round bye. In addition, he eclipsed 100 points for the first time in his career and continued on his remarkable pace of improving his point totals by approximately twenty points per season. Tordahl's performance in Season 36 earned him his second straight nomination to the Eastern Conference All-Star team as well as the Scott Boulet Trophy as the league's top two-way forward. Holding down the team's top line with Sergey Brovalenko, the Dynamo defeated Tordahl's previous team in six games to face the Legion, the team which drafted him, in the finals. This was a hard-fought series that went the full seven games and appeared to be Toronto's after taking a 3-1 series lead after four games. But the Dynamo turned their play up to a new level that Toronto was simply unable to adjust to, winning the final three games and being crowned the Continental Cup Champions. Season 37 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (NYA) 72 GP | 51 G - 64 A - 115 P | +40 | 601 SHT | 11 GWG | 148 PIM | 221 HIT | 43 SB In an intriguing move, albeit one necessary to stay under the salary cap, the Dynamo decided to move Tordahl following Season 36. For the price of a Season 38 first round pick, he was sent off to the rebuilding Americans, giving them a much needed star to bring the team back to relevance. While the addition of Tordahl was not quite enough to make the playoffs, finishing just a single point behind the Meute, New York established a core of Tordahl, Conner Low, Tom Slaughter, Xin Xie Xiao, and Brick Wahl that would eventually make the Americans one of the most dominating teams the VHL has ever seen. Despite missing the playoffs, Tordahl's 115 points were the best in the VHL, making him an obvious member of the North American Conference All-Star team. Season 38 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (NYA) 72 GP | 57 G - 71 A - 128 P | +46 | 545 SHT | 12 GWG | 101 PIM | 112 HIT | 47 SB Playoffs: (NYA) 6 GP | 2 G - 2 A - 4 P | -3 | 48 SHT | 0 GWG | 4 PIM | 7 HIT | 1 SB Following what was, up to that point, Tordahls' most dominant season of his career, he managed to top his Season 37 performance. His 57 goals, 71 assists, and 128 points were all league highs as he guided the Americans to the top record in the VHL that was 15 points ahead of the number two Dynamo. Although the Americans earned a first round bye, they still had a very young team with the majority of their players making their first playoff appearances in their careers. Ultimately, this inexperience proved to be too much as Toronto made quick work of New York, heading off to their third straight finals appearance. Season 39 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (NYA) 72 GP | 65G - 62A - 127P | +71 | 569 SHT | 13 GWG | 92 PIM | 201 HIT | 34 SB Playoffs: (NYA) 10 GP | 4G - 8A - 12P | +9 | 59 SHT | 0 GWG | 8 PIM | 32 HIT | 5 SB After a season many believed would be impossible to match, Tordahl did that and more, once again leading the VHL in points en route to leading the Americans to the top record in the league and picking up numerous individual accolades. He won the Grimm Jonsson Trophy as the league's top leader as well as the Scotty Campbell Trophy as the league's MVP and the Brett Slobodzian Trophy as the players' choice MVP. More importantly, though, he helped the Americans glide through the playoffs, defeating the Bears with ease in the second round before beating the Dynamo is five games to win his third Continental Cup with as many teams. Season 40 Statistics (VHL): Regular Season: (NYA) 72 GP | 57 G - 58 A - 115 P | +36 | 542 SHT | 12 GWG | 128 PIM | 293 HIT | 43 SB Playoffs: (NYA) 10 GP | 4 G - 9 A - 13 P | 0 | 67 SHT | 1 GWG | 19 PIM | 36 HIT | 12 SB In his final season, Tordahl once again led the Americans to the top record in the league while leading the team in points. Although his statistics were noticeably decreased as he began to show signs of age, Odin Tordahl remained one of the very best players in the league, reaching the 100 point mark for his fifth consecutive season. After a first round playoff bye, New York easily beat the Wranglers in five games before the underdog Riga Reign managed to utterly embarrass Tordahl and the Americans, obliterating them in five games. Career Totals Regular Season: 575 GP | 365 G - 414 A - 779 P | +312 | 4026 SHT | 63 GWG | 887 PIM | 1606 HIT | 207 SB Playoffs: 76 GP | 36 G - 37 A - 73 P | -3 | 436 SHT | 6 GWG | 92 PIM | 245 HIT | 36 SB Odin Tordahl retired as one of the most successful players the VHL has ever seen. Although his career started out slowly, he enjoyed tremendous team and individual success which is apparent by his three Continental Cups. With Tordahl's performance as a two-way player, never forgetting about the defensive side of hockey, he will long be remembered as the standard and very well could see the award for the top two-way forward renamed for his namesake. Tordahl's 365 goals are good for 12th all-time while his 779 points are 19th-best in VHL history. Despite playing for four different teams throughout his career, Odin Tordahl will long be associated with the New York Americans as his most dominant stretch of hockey coincided with the beginning of New York's impressive run which has included two Continental Cups in three seasons as of the end of Season 41. A unanimous selection as a first-ballot Hall of Famer is well-deserved and has solidified Tordahl's place as one of the VHL's true greats.

VHL This Week Season 42 Edition 2 Welcome to the second edition of Season 42's VHL This Week! It feels like the season is flying by as we're now over a quarter of the way through the season. This season has been one marked by unprecedented parity with the Riga Reign the only team currently below .400. As the season progresses, it is almost for certain that we will have an exciting finish to the season with a number of playoff spots decided in the final weeks of the season. Announcements Make sure to check out Edition 230 of the VHL Magazine! The league is looking for player page updaters! Apply here Game Discussion This week we'll take a look at a matchup between two European Conference rivals. This one was a hard-fought battle between the Express and Titans, which should come as a surprise to nobody. A tight game all the way through, it took just under thirteen minutes for the first goal of the game to be scored. After King Czar III missed the net on a great opportunity, all was not lost as the shot left Marting Brookside out of position, allowing Oskars Harumpf to pick up his seventh goal of the season and give his team the lead. This 1-0 lead appeared to be good enough for Helsinki to come out of the period with the lead before Logan Laich intercepted a pass in the offensive zone before sending the puck to Godavari Yumalatopinto to tie the game at one. The Titans promptly regained the lead in the second period on a Naomi Young snipe, appearing to suck the energy out of Cologne. Despite a dominant second period, the Titans were unable to extend their lead and ultimately let their guard down once again at the end of the period as Nicolas Caprivi tied the game up. This goal gave the Express momentum as they took control of the third period early and held Helsinki in check although neither team was able to pick up the win in regulation. Cologne continued to control play in overtime, not even surrendering a single shot but ultimately being forced into a shootout. It wasn't even until the fourth attempt that a shot was actually put on net and it would be the first goal of the shootout that would turn out to be the winner as Mason Richardson picked up the winning goal. Jerrick Poole is in his third season in the VHL and while he has established himself as a solid and talented all-around defenseman, there is still a lot left for him to accomplish. While winning the Continental Cup, the Labatte Trophy, and perhaps even an MVP award are all things that would certainly be markers of a strong career, there is one thing Poole wants before any of it. I just want to make the playoffs. I see all these guys making it and, honestly, I'm jealous. I thought maybe I'd have a chance in Season 41 but after it looking like it might just work out for us, we fell hard at the end and our season ended early. Coming into this season, the playoffs were my number one goal. I know our team is doing everything we can do at this point but it's leaving me wondering why we can't step it up a notch. Why can't we compete with the top teams? Do we even have a chance at winning in the future or has this team loaded with potential remained just that - a team with potential. I don't know yet and I'm trying to keep my options open but I know that if we miss the playoffs, I will have some very difficult decisions to make.

Legion to Consume Opponents? It is fairly obvious to everyone throughout the VHL that the Legion are not quite having the season most expected them to have. While Toronto maintains that it is largely due to the fact that they have a rough schedule as opposed to the more likely fact that there simply are very few weak teams this season, General Manager Edgar has suggested a very different and quite possibly radical solution. While this was stated in a private team meeting, an insider source felt disturbed enough by the comments to come forward to the media. Season 42 has not been kind to Sachimo Zoidberg and the Toronto Legion as they find themselves well out of a playoff spot a third of the way into the season. I'm sure by this point, many will be wondering what this controversial strategy actually is. Currently seven points behind the Americans for the third playoff spot out of the North American Conference, frustration is brewing in Toronto. In a quote that has been attributed to their general manager, "this bad schedule may never end. Ten of our next eleven are against the Americans, Express, Titans, and Meute. I believe we can eat these teams." While this has not be confirmed and the individual only willing to reveal this information anonymously, it seems so absurd that it has to be true. Unfortunately little has been revealed on this situation beyond the quote, leaving the rest up to total speculation. One of the most common theories beginning to gain traction is that Dirk Firkley will be the one doing the majority of the consumption of opposition. This season, he has certainly put a beating on players he lines up against but has been largely ineffective otherwise. Although, for some reason, Edgar has not decided to take a second look at the fact that Firkley, who has a whopping two points this year, is leading the team in powerplay minutes, the one thing Firkley has shown he can do is make sure opponents take a beating. It seems like the Legion are looking to take a step forward and direct the rookie forward to actually eat opposing players. With their next game against the Titans, it is suspected that defensive star Don Draper will be targeted. Titans defenseman Don Draper will have to take extra caution when around Dirk Firkley next game. While this certainly sounds like an issue the VHL has to keep a close eye on, the most popular suggestion that this was simply a misunderstanding and an attempt to stir up the league and create headlines in order to make more money. It has been suggested by those close to Edgar that he actually said beat, laughing at the idea that he would seriously think eating other teams would ever work out well for the Toronto franchise, one of the oldest in the league. Regardless of what happens next, the Legion have a lot of work to do if they want to be in a position to make the playoffs and for the sake of everybody, let's hope it's done the right way.

Fuck it I'll do a conference for free if we need to. And they spelled my player name wrong on the card thing.

I'll do it. Been a media grader in countless leagues before and after a few seasons here, have a good gauge on how things are graded in this league. I usually read most of the media spots anyways and it works out well that I'm almost always free on sundays which will allow me to make sure the late rush of articles get graded in time for updates.

VHL This Week Season 42 Edition 1 Welcome to the first edition of Season 42's VHL This Week! Hockey has started back up, much to the excitement of everyone in the league. This has been a highly anticipated season for a number of reasons, the first being an expected shift of power. Some teams have begun to meet the high expectations set prior to the season while others continue to disappoint. It's still very early in the season, though, and there is plenty of times for players and teams to turn things around. Announcements Make sure to check out Edition 229 of the VHL Magazine! Congrats to Brekker Bad on winning the Super Cup! This one was a great time as there was plenty of competition with an exciting playoffs all the way through. Take a look at the captain announcements throughout the league right here Game Discussion This week, we'll naturally take a look at the first game of Season 42 between the Dynamo and Vikings. This is a battle of the new blood in the European Conference, with both teams expected to fight for a playoff spot after having lottery picks last season. This game started out with a dominant performance by Davos, although Blaine Olynick was one fire, frustrating his opponents. But twelve minutes in, the puck finally found its way past the veteran goaltender by way of a Devin Sundberg goal, his first with his new team after signing as a free agent this off-season. Despite Davos' continued domination, the Vikings were able to limit their first period output to just one. The Vikings came out much stronger the next period, making things a bit difficult for the Dynamo but clearly not too tough as they extended their lead to two just nine minutes into the period off an Azi Ali one-timer. Ten minutes later, Sundberg got his second goal of the game to score a crushing goal to put Davos ahead by three with less than a minute left before the final frame. Playing a defensive game, the Dynamo limited the Vikings' opportunities but were unable to help rookie Callum Sinclair earn a shutout in his first VHL start as forward Teuvo Ruutu finally put the Vikings on the board. Unfortunately, that would be the final goal of the game as the Dynamo escaped with a relatively easy 3-1 win. TPE Earning Don't forget to claim your Season 41 Prediction Points! European Conference Predictions: Season 42 This season is as wide open as any in recent memory. The most recent VHL powerhouses, the Americans and Reign, are beginning to falter with the Reign initiating what is amounting to a significant rebuild. In addition, the Express and Titans both improved in the goaltending department to bolster their already talented rosters while the four rebuilding teams, Davos, Seattle, Stockholm, and Toronto appear to be ready to push for a playoff spots. While both conferences will likely feature tight races from the very beginning on the season until the final buzzer of the regular season, the European Conference is far from a sure thing. 5. Riga Reign What a fall from grace after making the Continental Cup Finals the past two seasons and claiming one championship. Without a goaltender, it will be difficult to compete with the very talented European Conference, although that is not Riga's only issue. While they do have Brennan McQueen, arguably the best player in the European Conference, they simply do not have much outside of a strong first forward line. With the trading of Fjorsstrom and Villeneuve, their defense has been left extremely weak and without a goalie to bail them out, it shouldn't be too difficult for opponents to pile up the goals when they play the Reign. While their roster would normally leave them in a respectable position, parity has ensued in the VHL and it will not be to Riga's favor. 4. Stockholm Vikings The Vikings have put together a nice little rebuild with a tremendous defensive core. This team has a very bright future but will it be enough to earn a playoff spot in Season 42? Not likely. They managed to acquire Blaine Olynick who will give them a solid option in net while they wait for any of their plethora of goaltender prospects headlined by Jax Barnstormer to develop into strong VHL players. The biggest hit on the Vikings is their lack of depth and youth. Give this team a year to develop and fill out their roster and they will be a force to be reckoned with. For now, though, they don't pose a huge threat to some of the better teams in the VHL. Jack Kowalski and the Vikings have a solid team but can they put it all together and make the playoffs? 3. H.C. Davos Dynamo Coming off a weak Season 41, the Dynamo appear ready to go for Season 42. They've added a number of solid prospects over the past few drafts and with the first and second overall selections this year, they added forward phenom Bismarck Koenig and the top goaltender of the draft in Callum Sinclair. In addition, they were able to snag center Devin Sundberg from free agency and he immediately steps into the first line center role. This an extremely young and deep team that should be contending for a Continental Cup very, very soon. 2. Helsinki Titans The Titans were destined to be a powerhouse for seasons to come but those expectations have yet to come to fruition as we enter Season 42. They still have a strong group of players but with so many young teams knocking on the door, Helsinki's window is closing. But they finally addressed the Kimmo Salo problem by adding stud goaltender Mike Szatkowski Jr. and still possess a very strong group of players. Depth may be a slight concern but it is likely that will be addressed before the start of the season. The fight for the top spot in the conference will be an exciting one, for sure. The Helsinki Titans will be hoping Szatkowski Jr. can replicate his Season 41 performance with the Reign. 1. Cologne Express Like the Titans, the Express are a strong team who has had their fair share of regular season success only to see everything fall apart in the playoffs. And like the Titans, the Express made obtaining a goaltending upgrade a priority this off-season, picking up Martin Brookside from the Wranglers fire sale. Led by the top two picks of the Season 40 Entry Draft, Thomas O'Malley and Mason Richardson, Cologne has one of the best and most talented groups of players in the VHL and should be able to roll out two very strong lines. Backed by Brookside, the Express will be a force to be reckoned with and have a great chance to finally end their playoff woes of late.
