Morale Dropping In Toronto?
Ninetyfourgoalie replied to Ninetyfourgoalie's topic in VHL.com Articles
My teammates didn't listen to me when I said this last season -
With the continuing disappointment that is the Toronto Legion's season, many are wondering why the team has been unable to pick up their play. They have a talented squad, no question, but their inability to put it all together has led to a number of questions. While it very well could be a drop in morale, one has to question where this drop has come from to render this team so mediocre despite high hopes early in the season. Is it the coaching? Perhaps there has been an inability to find lines that work or even a failure to experiment and try new things. Unless this team is ok with a .500 record, you would think that some shakeups would be in order. Mix up the lines. Make a trade. Change up the strategies. We've seen a definite resistance to any major changes and you have to wonder why. Could the blame also fall on Mike Szatkowski Jr.? He was brought in to essentially be the savior for Toronto, a team plagued by a lack of effective goaltending. But his presence has not been a significant help. The team has posted a 12-8-4 record with him in net, far from good enough to win the Continental Cup, and Szatkowski's statistics place him comfortable in the middle of the league's goaltenders. Is this age finally creeping up on the once highly regarded goaltender or are the Legion simply not giving him enough help? Well, we're halfway through the season with many questions and no answers. That is not good.

Couple Suggestions from Me
Ninetyfourgoalie replied to BigTittySmitty's topic in Suggestions and Complaints
Glad the whole point task thing finally got fixed! This was a huge point in my new member survey and something I definitely continued to harp on until I managed to get enough help from people in the league to figure the whole TPE cap and what was and was not included thing out. Definitely will help make things easier for new guys. -
How about the deflategate punishment? But goddamn some people aka most Pats fans can't see where Brady fucked up. As if texting a dude who calls himself the deflator for the first time in years after the whole deflated football thing comes out and then gives his kids a tour of the Pats facilities for the first time ever. Sorry but Brady definitely lied and now is being punished harshly for it. It's getting hard for me to root for the Pats but I'm excited to see Garoppolo - I think he'll be a stud.

This may be the team's biggest weakness right now. Both the powerplay and penalty kill have been abysmal. Converting on just 12.63% of their powerplays has severely limited the amount of damage the talented offensive group has been able to put on opponents. No team has had as many powerplay opportunities as the Legion (95) yet they find themselves in the middle of the pack in terms of goals. Not acceptable. And even worse is their penalty kill. Although they have been the second least penalized team in the VHL, they have surrendered the most goals while on the penalty kill. No team should be accepting numbers like this, especially not one with hope of winning a Continental Cup. What should be done about this? While changing up the lines would be the easy fix, defensive depth is a major issue. Perhaps Fjorsstrom and Poole are being overused and could use a forward to play back on defense on the powerplay. As for the penalty kill, tactics are the main issue. You see these guys out there are there is one thing on their mind - defense. There is no effort to control the puck, to perhaps kill some time with a rush followed by a dump and change or even once in a while making an effort to surprise the opponent with a shorthanded goal. The players simply need to put a priority on killing the penalty in any way possible and it doesn't always involve keeping the puck in the defensive zone and hurrying to get rid of it. Apparently my discussion last week inspired some change. I'm no expert here but something is clearly off with the Legion's special teams units and it just may be what is holding the team back right now.

The Toronto Legion finally added veteran goaltender Mike Szatkowski Jr. in a highly anticipated move but he is coming at a rough time for the team. After winning three of their first four games in dominant fashion, the Legion have been slumping hard. On a six game skid, they absolutely have to turn things around if they are going to seriously compete for the Continental Cup. While it is easy to pin the problems on backup goalie TOR G, one has to wonder where the team's scoring ability has gone. With only ten goals in their past six games, the highly touted offensive attack has been nowhere to be found. So what should be done? On one hand, it is still early in the season. It's better to go through a slump now than late in the season. But on the other hand, 4-8 is not where this team wanted to be at all. Do they need to shake up the lines? Try some new strategies? It may be what the team needs because if they go much longer without figuring things out, it will be devastating after quite literally putting everything into building a winner this season.

After days of intense discussions with teams around the league including the Quebec City Meute, Seattle Bears, Stockholm Vikings, and Toronto Legion, Jerrick Poole has finally made the decision to stick with Toronto. He has spent his entire career with the Legion since they made him the fourth overall pick in the Season 40 Entry Draft. He has enjoyed his fair share of individual success with the team, averaging over a point per game while being named an All-Star in each of his first three seasons. Because of his play since entering the VHL, he was a highly sought after commodity in free agency during an off-season in which we saw two top teams, the New York Americans and Helsinki Titans, essentially ship away their entire rosters in order to rebuild. The Legion managed to bring Poole back after a huge deal with Helsinki which has netted them forward Jackson Miller. It was understood that Poole's desire was to stay with the Legion but was willing to go elsewhere if a cup was not attainable in Toronto. Now, though, the Legion will have one of, if not the strongest teams in the VHL on paper. By bringing back Jerrick Poole and therefore preventing their opponents from acquiring the talented defenseman, Toronto has propelled itself to become one of the favorites to win the Continental Cup in Season 43.
