Ninetyfourgoalie got a reaction from Jala in Roast of Jala
And we lose a great, productive member in jala because of this. Maybe someone can answer this better but edgar asked in the Toronto LR who was interested in taking over. jala was not one of them. He was then approached because edgar's choice was apparently not good enough. Whoever thought having to approach someone who initially did not have interest in a GM position was a good idea when there were, I'm sure, plenty of qualified and interest members made a poor decision.

And then we get to the trade. I had a player option. I was leaving if a deal with Stockholm wasn't figured out. I wanted to go to Stockholm but wanted to help Toronto's rebuild out at least a little bit. So before you go roasting him yet again on this deal, learn more about the circumstances.

That being said, it was a shitty thing for jala to just get up and leave in the middle of the season. But as much as I was surprised that he didn't show an initial interest in GMing, I was more surprised when he was approached and named GM after choosing not to pursue it. I don't really know what else happened but knowing jala a bit, I highly doubt he just left without a good reason. Maybe chose a poor way to leave, sure, but not simply because he lost interest, I'd imagine.

And I have to applaud this league for running a great smear campaign on the SHL. Kept me away for almost a year. Now I am questioning whether I'll recreate when I'm done with Poole.

DINGGGG DONGGGGG. Dope Fiend looked around his two-room apartment for the final time, hardly believing that this was it. For a man of sixty three years, he was not well-traveled, rarely leaving his Baltimore - D.C. bubble. As he picked up his bags and headed towards the door, he briefly reflected upon his life and just how little he'd accomplished outside of shooting up in virtually every alleyway in the area. At this point, most of his old friends were long dead, locked up, or doped up. While he was leaving behind his entire old life, he realized, in actuality, how little he would be losing. Dope Fiend slowly extended his velvety brown hand to the door and opened it. His agent was waiting for him. "Hey old man! You ready to go?"

Dope Fiend looked back into the small apartment he had lived in since getting out of prison just over ten years ago. They may not have been the most exciting ten years of his life but, for once, he had finally straightened himself out. "I'm ready," he replied as he shut the door behind him, "I'm not sure how this is going to work but I know it will." The two trodded down the staircrase, creaking with each step, as if they were reminding Dope Fiend of the finality this decision. They made it downstairs and walked toward the taxi. Ninetyfourgoalie entered first as Dope Fiend followed. As he began to climb into the back seat, the old driver turned around and locked eyes with Dope Fiend, who noticed a scar along the man's right cheek. He was not even halfway into the car when he stopped and, in a split second, was sprinting back to his apartment building. He heard a gunshot as he frantically pulled out his keys, fumbling for the long, silver one that opened the lock. Dope Fiend quickly unlocked the door and snuck back inside as he heard three more gunshots and the screeching of tires outside. He caught his breath for a moment, leaned against the mailboxes, and slid down to the floor, his hands covering his face. Dope Fiend wondered if he would ever escape this prison he'd once called his home. Just then, there was violent banging on the door.

Dope Fiend stood up and, with extreme care, pulled back the curtain just enough to see Ninetyfourgoalie's pale, white hand and quickly opened the door to let him in. "What the FUCK? What was that?"

"That... that is why I went to prison. Did you see his scar? He got that from me about thirty years ago." Dope Fiend took a deep breath. "I'm never going to get out of here, am I? We're never going to make it to Oslo."

"Don't worry, old man. I gave you my word. I'm not giving up on you now."

    A Grand Finale

While most of the deservedly hyped Season 47 free agent class continues to get a feel for where they will be signing as the league's general managers frantically make their pitches, Jerrick Poole and Mason Richardson have found their new home in the Riga Reign. Both players were originally drafted into the VHL as defensemen in Season 40 in what was shaping up to be one of the most talented draft classes the league has ever witnessed. Richardson was selected with the second overall pick by the Cologne Express, where he won the Continental Cup in Season 42, while Poole was taken fourth by the Toronto Legion. Early on in their careers, both players appeared to be headed for stardom.

However, after a few seasons, their career trajectories took markedly different turns. Richardson continued to develop into one of the better players the league has ever seen although has not been able to capture his second Continental Cup despite making the playoffs in each of his seven seasons to date. Incredibly, Richardson has yet to win any individual accolades despite his outstanding play. But, this opportunity with Riga may just provide him with this opportunity as nearly every aspect of the team's game will be run through him - both offense and defense. He is truly the most talented player on the roster here and will be looking to cap off a great career with an outstanding team and individual performance. Poole, on the other hand, has experienced disappointment in both Toronto and Stockholm and has failed to even make a Continental Cup Finals, coming closest in Season 44 where his Vikings fell to the Express in Game 7 of the European Conference Finals. It was after this season that Poole really started to stagnate in terms of his development and it began to look like the former phenom would never be able to achieve superstardom.

Richardson has spent the bulk of his career with the Dynamo but was unable to secure a second cup win, which he will be seeking out here in Season 47

As both players enter their final season, they will be looking to taste victory before heading off into retirement. Richardson will look to anchor the Reign defense and power their offensive attack as the franchise looks to capitalize on the immense amount of roster turnover both throughout the league and especially in the European Conference. Poole, however, will likely remain at forward and will be a leader among the forward group with former second overall pick Bronson Faux, one that will be marked by a rare combination of physicality and skill. Of course, Hans Wingate, arguably the best goaltender in the league, will be the team's backstop as this team is all but assured to be the most difficult group to score on. The question here, however, will be whether the Reign can put the puck in the net enough to overcome a relatively mediocre offensive attack. If they can click offensively, this team will be an absolute force and very well could send Richardson and Poole out as champions.

Ninetyfourgoalie got a reaction from atw2592 in Dope Fiend Drafted By Oslo
Just days after declaring eligibility for the Season 47 VHLM Dispersal Draft, Dope Fiend has a new home as he looks to prepare to take on VHL talent. With the twelfth overall selection, the Oslo Storm selected the elderly left winger with their first selection in a deep draft. One VHL scout was quoted as saying "This is a great pick for Oslo at this point in the draft. By an advanced metric we use here, known as TPE, for which the acronym cannot be divulged, Dope Fiend may very well be the best player on the Storm right now." Some high praise for the 63 year old Baltimore native. After the draft, VHL.com caught up with Dave the Dope Fiend for an interview and he had this to say about his new team.

"Oslo? What the fuck is an Oslo? Is that some hipster sushi bullshit? I don't know much about this team. I heard I have to fly all the way to Europe which is a bit fucked. I don't even know how I got talked into joining this league. I guess I have to see how it plays out. Apparently I'm pretty alright at this hockey thing so as long as I'm on the first line, I'm happy."

Hello all, welcome to another season with the Riga Reign!

Most of the team is familiar faces of course as we push for that one final championship. Let's take a moment to welcome the new faces though! Mason Richardson (@Kendrick) and Jerrick Poole (@Ninetyfourgoalie) opted to join us through free agency, which is the reason we're able to go on this run! So make sure that we give a nice welcome to those two if you haven't already. We were also able to pick up Vincent Virtanen (@Lunaro) in the Entry Draft, which was more than a pleasant surprise. Virtanen will be a solid piece in Riga's future.

The European conference is our's for the taking. Davos is non-existent at this point after the roster was lost to free agency and Helsinki took a big hit to their forward core as well, leaving us to make a run. Cologne and Helsinki will make up the other two teams in the playoffs I'm sure.

We're going to be moving Kowalski to make sure that we can bring back Ackerman. We need to find a forward who has a max cap hit of 1.5 million, so if you see anyone let me know. I put offers in on Hines and Deschamps in Seattle and I'm going to post a signing to bring in Alistar Graves. If we can get someone other than Graves though that'd be preferable because his build is not pretty. We have a few days to figure this out though.

Depreciation has been done, so if you haven't updated and are an older player, make sure to get that done. We're still waiting on the Player Store to be posted it seems, so I'll provide that link when I spot it. Training Camp is located here, make sure to get it done!!! If you don't have it done towards the deadline I'll just be tagging you in the thread. S47 Award Predictions have been posted, so you can go ahead and post, but make sure to edit after the off-season plays out. The alternate captain vote is up as well, so please vote for that. I will be closing it once the pre-season is done with.

That's all for now, Reign. Let's go out there and win us a god damn Cup finally.

Ninetyfourgoalie got a reaction from Kendrick in Dope Fiend Enters S48 Draft
Dope Fiend, a 63 year old heroin addict from Baltimore, Maryland, has officially announced his eleigibility for the VHL's Season 48 Entry Draft. Known to many by the name of Dave, Dope Fiend's claim to fame was providing a young boy with a shotgun in exchange for enough money to cover the rest of the week's worth of heroin. However, Dope Fiend entered rehab last year and claims to be clean; however, the amount of drugs he has taken over the years has certainly taken a toll on his mental well-being. His agent, Ninetyfourgoalie, was reportedly scouring the country for a new player to represent after all reports indicate that Season 47 will be Jerrick Poole's last, and came across Dope Fiend who was working as a zamboni driver at a hockey rink in the suburbs of Baltimore.

"I liked his grit and the attitude he constantly gave to those rich, preppy little hockey players. Although I was simply trying to watch the Squirt game going on, looking for the next Conner Low, Dope Fiend really caught my eye. We had a nice chat and I thought he really had the potential to be the next big thing in the VHL. I immediately signed him and started him on his hockey training. He certainly isn't your stereotypical hockey prospect but I think he can surprise some people."

Ninetyfourgoalie reacted to Toast in One more run for Riga
RIGA, LATVIA -- Late last night, it seemed that the Riga Reign got the news that they were hoping for. GM Kurtis Hunter was able to ink defenseman Mason Richardson and forward Jerrick Poole to one-year contracts.
The veterans, heading into their retirement years, are looking to get the elusive championship win that may just be possible in Riga this season.
With Helsinki losing Thomas O'Malley and Davos seemingly falling off the face of the Earth, this leaves Riga with the room that they need to take the European conference if everything works together.
While Richardson did win a Continental Cup in S42 with the Cologne Express, Poole has yet to win a Cup and joins fellow S40 Entry Draft pick Hunter in a quest to win their first cup.
Hunter, GM and a player for the Toast player agency, is on a quest to win the agency's first ever Continental Cup.
"It's great that Richardson and Poole signed," said Hunter. "We have a fantastic amount of talent here in Riga now and we believe that we can really make a statement in the league this time around."
"What happened in the post-season was very disappointing, but we're not prepared to let it discourage us. We have a fantastic season ahead and we'll make full use of it."

And this makes me excited because this means I can be a free agent and create a new player very soon. But hold your excitement. Even the 5 or so seasons of crazy activity I put into Jerrick Poole will most certainly not be going into my new player. I don't even know what I'm going to do yet but he'll probably never crack a top six (will probably make a forward). But what type of forward? I don't know.

Because my guy isn't going to be very good, maybe I'll just make a goon. Would be fun to just have a player who gets in fights and hits people all the time. Or maybe even worse, I'll just make the VHL's Zac Rinaldo. That would be fun. Can we turn injuries on here? I'll just go for peoples' heads.

I could also just make some shitty energy player who just goes out there to spell the important players. But this will probably be boring because in order to be useful, my player will have to be pretty much mediocre at best at everything. That doesn't sound too exciting to me. But then again, this type of player would be a lot more useful and could just be that guy who everyone loves because he works hard yet still sucks so when he does something good, it's like Christmas day. So that could actually be fun.

Or I could make a faceoff specialist. Just a guy who is really good at faceoffs and kind of shitty at everything else. But still a little useful because nobody likes it when their good players are tired and you have to stick some rando into center and he wins about 30% of his faceoffs. So this guy could help with that. But this is probably the worst idea of them all. It would make me go inactive right away before I even got out of juniors. That's no good.

I think my plan will be to be really active early, hit 400 TPE, then be a welfare queen until I have to go inactive in six months. Hopefully by that time I'll have a useful player that a GM can have for cheap. Wow. I wrote so many words. If I could make my new player right now, I'd turn it into a full media but can't do that yet so biding my time until I need to try a bit here.
