"Both teams went at it and gave it their all. So far, my season has been pretty mediocre but it's just the beginning. I think we can expect better numbers soon, I think. I know my team is very top heavy so there might be some expectations on the defense. I plan to use that pressure positively and produce where I can. We have a great D-Core as well with Green, Garcia, Shackleford and Chan. Again, we're a young defensive core but we're on the come up now. Garcia has started slowly on the offensive side but Chan has really been surprising me on the 2nd line. He's been an absolute beast so far. Green has been getting into his rhythm as well and I have no doubt that He's going to start putting up points. He's such an integral piece to our defensive pie. Just wait as the season goes on, if this is what I'm thinking is our beginning slump, we're only going to get better, I mean it's inevitable."
 
Is there any changes you've been doing to your practice routines and regiments?
 
"Yeah, I've actually adopted some Yoga in the mornings so I get more flexible. It's definitely made me stretch out and make some impossible saves in practice."

Imagine being last in the league with 0 points in 10 games... Oh wait you don't have to imagine

Berocka opens up goal account in VHL

Berocka Sundqvist one of the newest members of the Seattle Bears opened up his goal account within the first 10 minutes of his opening game in the VHL. This came to a shock for all the fans of the Bears and Berocka himself. He had this to say at the end of the game when asked about his feelings.
 
"Going into the game was extremely nerve wracking I had no idea what I would really be doing and what my role was. That all changed when the pass from Carles came in and I netted the goal, I felt all the weight lift off my shoulders. Sure the competition is harder but this is what I have been training for, I know what I need to do and that is to get the puck in the back of the net. I am glad I have had such helpful team mates, especially the ones from the Hounds. I am going to keep playing my game and scoring goals. I want to make the GM proud and also my teammates proud, I still have my goal of being the best Australian to ever take the ice in the VHL so I want to live up to my expectations."
 
It looks like that Berocka could bring great things to the Bears we will just need to wait and see.

MALMO SPORTS COLUMN
 
The Malmo Nighthawks have started their season with 3-2-1 record through their first 6. The team has had satisfactory results thus far, but with so many new additions to the team, we expect them to pull together as the season progresses. Leading the charge for the Malmo Nighthawks is All Star Winger Matthew Materazo, (2-5-7) Right Winger Joey Boucher (2-3-5) and surprisingly rookie defenseman Hugh Chan. (1-3-4) The team will need to find consistency in their play if they hope to be in a playoff position. They are currently looking like a bubbling playoff team, General Manager Advantage has also made significant moves during the off season signing superstar left winger Matt Thompson (5-0-5) and trading for veteran defenseman turned winger Ryan Sullivan Jr. (0-4-4) But whether or not these big acquisitions will pay dividends is the question. Time will only tell, but with the season just beginning it is too early to completely write them off.
 
 
 
 

MALMO SPORTS COLUMN
 
Hugh Chan has scored his first career goal in the Malmo Nighthawks fourth game of the season against the Calgary Wranglers. The goal came in the third period at 18:56 on the powerplay, assisted by Matthew Materzao and Joey Boucher. We spoke with him briefly after the game to get his reaction and overall thoughts on the season.
 
Q. " Now this must have been on your hockey bucket list since the beginning of your career, how does it feel to score your first VHL goal?
 
H. " It really is hard to describe, I've been dreaming about this moment ever since I was a little kid. Scoring so early into the season was a little bit of a surprise for many, but considering my success in the VHLM on the special teams, I expected my offensive abilities to translate well to the VHL.. It was great to showcase to the league what I'm capable of. there were definitely doubts on my overall game, but I'm here this season to prove everyone wrong. "
 
Q. " Though it's still early in the season, what are your expectations of your team, the Malmo Nighthawks? "
 
H. " Although it's still early in the season, I do believe we will surprise many by making the playoffs. Our team is solid up and down the lineup, we definitely will still need some time to build team chemistry, but considering the depth and talent I don't believe it should be a problem.
 
Q. What are your expectations for your own play, what do you need to improve on?
 
H " I'm expecting a solid rookie season primarily on the offensive end, I don't think that 40 points in my rookie season is off the table. What I need to improve on? ... Definitely my skating and defense. The speed at which the players play up here is really at another level, my skating will improve as the season progresses which in turn should help with my defensive positioning. I will be working with the training staff throughout the season to help tackle that, but in the mean time I will focus on my strengths which is my passing and play making ability.
 
Q. " How has it been playing in a new country? "
 
H. " It's been an interesting but amazing experience, I never thought that I would play professional hockey in Europe. The food has been amazing so far and it hasn't been too difficult adjusting to the culture, my teammates from Europe have made my transition relatively easy. "
 
Q. " Anything that you would like to say to the Malmo Nighthawk fans? "
 
H " Thank you for welcoming me to your beautiful city and beloved hockey organization! I appreciate how welcoming everyone from Malmo has been on my rookie season. Also to the ownership and management group of the Malmo Nighthawks, I appreciate you for taking the chance on a young chinese defenseman from Hong Kong. Tack själv!

S67 VHLM Awards 

 
We'd like to congratulate the Ottawa Lynx on a successful campaign - hoisting the Founder's cup. It was a team, over the course of the regular season and playoffs, that overcame a lot and was guided in an extremely efficient direction to dominate most portions of the year. Probably a lot of other people had other teams picked? Maybe? Anyway, congrats to them. Another big congrats to all of the players who are making their ways to the VHL and were drafted the other night to their new VHL organizations. We wish you all the best of luck. Next, thank you to everyone who runs the show. From my trusty partner D_A, le bluez, to the people who make the lines and simulate for us season after season, the updaters, the recruitment team and every other staff member and normal member we have that makes the VHLM such a stronger, more enjoyable league. 
 
We will have some small changes coming in the near future that we feel are strongly going to improve the VHLM and all those involved. All rules will take place immediately if ready, however, the entirety will not be announced until a later date.
