diacope got a reaction from Jaku in San Diego Marlins Press Conference
    Week of July 15th
To claim 2 TPE, answer 6 of the 10 questions below to gain full TPE

    1. We're a few sims in now, not the greatest results but from what the Marlins have done, what excites you the most about the results?
Seeing my player on the score sheet, I'm a big fan of statistics and even if we lose there is still tons to read and get lost in.

    2.  How do you feel about your personal performance thus far?
Could be better in my opinion but others may say I'm doing great. Just want to keep improving and make my future performances even better!

    4. What expectations do you have for us moving forward?
Our team is going to be competitive shortly, we might not be at the top of the standings by the end of the season but I can see us being competitive all-around, might even ruin a few top teams days playing the stinker down the road.

    5. If we could add one position, which one is most important and why?
We need a pair of defenders I think, we could use anybody but if we can get a little more defense to back up Grimaldi and that will give us more chances to win.

    6. Are you happy with your playing time over the course of the early season?
Yes but wouldn't mind if I had to play less, rest is a big thing and I'm scared if we continue playing this much time we'll break. Obviously I'm knocking on wood because nothing has happened so far (and probably wont) but as much as I like being on the highlight reel.. I also like seeing my teammates smile and enjoying themselves.

    7. If you had to give us a rival, who would it be and why?
Saskatoon Wild. They were the second team to offer me a contract and I think since I turned it down they might want my head, thank god I have some tough teammates. Also, beating my buddy @diamond_ace makes the victory feel even better

diacope reacted to Psyduck77 in Bruce Grimaldi - Rookie Profile [1/2]
    Age: 20
    Height: 6'4
    Weight: 210 lbs
    Handedness: Right
    Position: Goalie
    Birthplace: Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA
    Team: San Diego Marlins

Born in a city that has never seen snow, much less ice, Bruce Grimaldi grew up not even aware hockey was a sport. Grimaldi spent most of his childhood inline skating. It was one day on the boardwalk that he saw some kids playing roller hockey where he was first introduced to the game. Grimaldi took to the net like a duck to water and quickly fell in love with the sport.

    Strengths.
    Reaction Time:
Grimaldi mostly relies on his ability to read and react to a shot. To put his reaction time into some context, the average human takes around 250ms to initiate a reaction to visual stimulus. There is tape of Grimaldi reacting to a shot in 120ms. This ability to process and respond to each situation is something you are born with and is not something that other goalies can compete with Grimaldi on.

    Hand Speed:
This ties in closely with Reaction Time. Grimaldi has two of the fastest hands in net. Whether it is gloving a slapshot from the blue line or diving to stop a wraparound, Grimaldi has a habit of robbing opponents. This is a key skill for Grimaldi, because he has an 80-inch reach. His ability to snap his glove or blocker to any part of the net is pivotal for his approach in net.

    Work Ethic:
Coming from a place where ice hockey doesn’t really exist, Grimaldi has had to work twice as hard as players who are born with skates on their feet. It’s not irregular to see Grimaldi at the rink two hours after everyone else has left. He has a drive within him that is rarely seen, and it seems that he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.

    Areas to improve.
    Skating:
As could be expected, Grimaldi isn’t a natural ice skater. He has only been on the ice for two years, and it shows in his pad work. He doesn’t look totally comfortable in his stance yet and will sometimes let in savable shots because he loses an edge in net.

    Style:
Grimaldi looks stiff in net. His feet are constantly shuffling when the puck is in his end of the ice. A key to his development is going to be his ability to settle down and let the game flow instead of relying purely on his elite reaction and speed.

    Rebounding:
This is the area where Grimaldi will need to see the most improvement. He has a bad habit of pushing pucks back out into dangerous areas of the ice instead of killing the puck. This sets his defense up for failure in a lot of cases where they did everything right. He has the natural ability but is going to have to change his habits in order to progress into a VHL goalie.

    Summary:
Bruce Grimaldi isn't a player that should be overlooked. He's a once in a generation type goalie who, once his rough edges are polished, has the ability to be an elite goalies in not just the VHLM, but the VHL.

San Diego Marlins, a sit down with the GM's.
    By Jacob Leason

As the season fast approaches, times and rosters have changed. It's a new season of life in San Diego. Time for some new heroes. We've had a chance to sit down and talk to the master-builder themselves, general manager Zach Gagnon and assistant general manager Mexican Cow.

Jacob: Welcome gentlemen! How's it going today?
MC: I'm going really great! Really excited for this upcoming season!
ZG: Today is a great day, every day is, can't go into things with a negative mindset, that is where things get dangerous haha. Being positive is the way to go.

Jacob: Great! I'm ecstatic to hear you're both doing so well. We cannot wait until puck drop. With the season fast approaching what are a few things that you're anticipating this season?
MC: Well, I'm anticipating that my team will come out strong. I'm expecting everyone to work hard, battle for the puck and get in those dirty areas.
ZG: Honestly, my anticipation and expectations are all over the place. There is always this "golden window" you want your team to be in but you just never know. I know I'm building from the ground up, but I am just hoping we can succeed enough to have fun!

Jacob: That's fantastic, seems like a lot of exhausting work. I seemed like there was a lot of turnover on the roster this off season. What sort of positives are you hoping to take out of that?
MC: Yes, the roster changed dramatically. With the change I hope we can all gel well, being new to the league and we can learn to teach each other.
ZG: Yeah, we lost about 99% of our roster this year, whether to people leaving for the draft or leaving to go to their pro teams, we did lose just about everyone, but honestly that's kind of the fun of it. Now I have a whole new crop of players I've never coached before, eager and ready to get things going just like me, that's the positive I take from this job, is getting that kind of experience to be the first "stop" on players careers, and its exciting.

Jacob: Love it. Is there anyone on the roster that stands out to you in particular?
MC: One guy that really surprised me is Ryan Busser. This guy is a TPE machine. Always trying to get the most TPE he can. He's a great leader and loves to teach others.
ZG: Honestly we've had a whole crew of guys come together and really show us their a-game, I've been impressed with pretty much everyone on the team without a doubt, just coming together, helping one another, being so chatty and active, that's all I ever want from my team, and I'm getting all of it.

Jacob: Sounds like exciting times in San Diego! With all of these young men coming into the line-up, do you have any particular goals for this team?
MC: My goal for the team is to go out there and play our best hockey. I'm not expecting to make the finals or anything. I just want the team working hard.
ZG: Outside of having fun, I just want the guys to enjoy the season and achieve all of their individual goals. I know it may not be the most satisfying thing in the world as we're fairly behind some of the "superior" teams but we'll enjoy the season in other ways and grow together.

Jacob: Has there been any changes to coaching staff?
MC: No new changes, Zach is still my boss.
ZG: No sir, I am the original general manager of the team and MexicanCow is the original AGM of the team, we've been here since last season when the team was introduced through expansion and I do not plan on going anywhere, anytime soon.

Jacob: What sort of style of play are you hoping to see out on the ice?
MC: I want this team to play with speed. We don't really need anyone like ACL TEAR who will just go out there and kill people. I don't think every team needs a guy like that. So, I want my guys to be sneaky and use their skills.
ZG:We have a big mix of players, some who can score, pass, throw the body, play good defense and so on, I think it's going to be a lot of mixture, and I may have to switch up the lines here and there to find the perfect combo.

Jacob: This sounds fantastic guys. Can we get a bold prediction for the season?
MC: The perfect outcome would be everyone on the team becomes a TPE machine and we make the finals. Simple as that.
ZG: I'd say as a bold prediction, we finish TOP FIVE.

Jacob: That's all the time we have gentlemen. Thank you for your time, it's always a pleasure seeing you. All the Marlins fans certainly cannot wait to get the season underway.
MC: Thanks so much for your time! It was a pleasure seeing you, hope we can get together soon.
ZG: I just want to thank you for asking me these questions, it's been fun answering them and lets get this show on the road!

So much optimism, hope and anticipation hanging on this team's shoulders. It is safe to say everyone is invested into this team and the success of it. We all know it's a process, but with how strongly motivated the staff and players are, this team won't let any other team take a night off. Don't count the Marlins out. Their new heroes have come to town.

Thursday, July 11th - San Diego, California

With little experience and not much to go off of the managers of the San Diego Marlins held a team vote to decide their captains, it was getting close to the afternoon and emails were being sent to all players so they could get everybody together to make the decision before they went to training camp. All players attended the voting process and the locker room was active, a good sign for the newly formed club, each player took their turn going into the voting booth (bathroom) and made their selections, the last player was ready and as the door closes behind him the managers walked back into the dressing room to read the results..

And the first Assistant Captain for the Marlins will be..

And the second selection and a rarity to see in the Assistant Captain spot, the Marlins have decided..

And the player leading the way for San Diego next season is..

That's a captain in each position and leadership throughout the line up, some an inexperienced club will most definitely need. We caught up with GM Gagnon after leaving the San Diego facility and he had this to say after we asked him how things went..

"It went amazing," as he smiled with glee "the guys are all so active it makes my job easier."

diacope got a reaction from Hogan in VHLM TPE Rankings - Part 1: The Bottom Five
This is the time when players get drafted, ink new contracts and teams scramble to fill their rosters with late additions and transactions, welcome to the off-season. The season is around the corner and today we are going to rank the best and the worst rosters thus far, giving you an early look before the new season officially starts. Some teams are a few moves away and some are far from competitive, today we are going to look at the worst TPE totals, thanks for tuning.. lets get started!

    #5   = 1015 TPE

    Top Players
LW John Perdue - LW Tormund Giantsbane - D Anthony Amberback - D Fylo Gibbles - D Kefka Palazzo

Saskatoon is very defensive and all their top players can take the puck away and and it is clear they have more defenders than forwards right now but will help them compete against the higher rated clubs until they find some more offense. The Wild have yet to sign a goaltender and that will only cause more stress on the general manager and take his focus off of building his team until he finds the man for the job.

    #4   = 992 TPE

    Top Players
LW Jason Connors - LW Nick Kirkpatrick - RW Ryan Busser - D Donat Szita - D Ryan Chism

GM Zack Gagnon has had a lot of food on his plate since trading away all his picks and not acquiring any players at the draft. San Diego went threw a total rebuild and started fresh, acquiring nine different players this off-season. The biggest addition was Szita, who will man most of the defensive minutes this season and a rookie goalie Steel who has yet proved himself but is currently the only goaltender in the organization and it only cost the team a 3rd round pick for a pair of players they needed.

    #3    = 459 TPE

    Top Players
LW Hayden Clarkson - LW Lexington Lewis - D Charles Drumm - G Virgil Ligriv - G Lukas Schweitzer

Lets start with the team having two goaltenders, that isn't something they need without having any forwards or defenders to cover them, Ligriv is the teams best player and Schweitzer is the teams best rookie. If the Aces can figure out what kind of roster they want to construct they have the pieces to acquire and plenty of rookies to develop but they are going to need to put in work because the season is close and being organized is a must if they want to win and be successful.

    #2    = 448 TPE

    Top Players
C Eeli Harju - LW Waluigi De Rossi - C Hunter Edwards - D Hiromu Takahashi - D Walt Sanguinetti

The Kings have an all-around roster but the area they need to improve on is offense, they only have a couple shooters and not a lot of passers and that wont make things easy on them if they want to produce like the other teams in the VHLM. They have a good base and will be able to adjust mistakes before they happen. What the team really needs is a group gym session and tons of meetings to spread knowledge and gain strength, the compassion is there but the work effort is not.

    #1    = 414 TPE

    Top Players
LW Chett Bandy - C Alexander Shaw - RW Jaxon Walker - D Daman Veyalon - D Noah Hanley

Mississauga is at the bottom of the league with the lowest total TPE earned and hasn't made a lot of movement this off-season, leading the way with the most experience and skill is Bandy, a quik goal scorer and only valuable player they own as of right now. They did draft some good rookies with potential but have yet to develop into a key player for the Hounds. The one thing the team does have is a solid top line with good chemistry, the scouts will be attending a lot of their games because who knows how good their prospects could turn out with all the extra ice time at an early age.

Truthfully, the Reapers are a whole step or two higher than the next closest team in Minnesota, but with some key trades or signings and tremendous growth, they could be challenged. Realistically, I don't see any of the hopeful teams standing a chance this season. They simply don't have the high end assets they need in order to compete in a playoff series against the top two contenders. They would have to pull of a miracle to make it work. I definitely see some of these teams leaning towards selling early, but teams like Ottawa or Halifax could and should be early buyers if they want to stand a chance this season. The rebuilding teams don't seem to be in any position to trade for better players, or many draft picks either. I have a hard time seeing most of them contending for the next couple season unless the GMs make uniquely successful decisions.

Like most teams on our list Houston is offense first and probably the most offensive oriented team but they do have defense to back it up. What they need to improve on would be getting strong players to defend their scorers and somebody that can man the middle on the top line. The Bulls have an interesting roster and one you could gamble on, they are well ready to be a top team right now and with a few minor adjustments they could see themselves at the top of the standings, specially if their already talented player can get a little bit more TPE. Finally, expect to see some sweet plays and good chemistry from their top line, they have 220 scoring between the three of them.

Yukon has a lot of talented players to fill the whole roster but are lacking a goaltender. If you look closer at the players you'll see very good scoring and defense with outstanding skating which are three vital skills you need. They have very low discipline and I can see that being a problem during the season. At the end of the day I'm sure we will see plenty of competitive games out of this roster.. if they can find a competitive goaltender to match because defender Flowers is going to be blocking a lot of pucks if they don't.

Their defense is offensive as well and Persson takes the shot most nights while two-way defender Gage works his tail off. Goal-tending isn't an issue for Halifax, Gunnarsson ranks 3rd among TPE earners on the team and will be the right man to hold the fort for them this season. If the team can acquire some shut down defensive players and possibly a center they can make a legitimate run at the cup.

Right off the bat I notice the team has only a few lines of talent but can put the puck in the back of the net, the team is lacking defenders and defensive forwards which has been a trend so far but if they could get somebody to fill that gap the Lynx could be in the finals. Anthony Hawk is going to be a problem and his shot is scary, they have a little bit of everything they need in skill for offense and don't need to improve on that at all. The only area I see that needs an improvement is depth defenders and forwards that can grind it out, if they can find a few or train a prospect to develop a different skill set this roster could be very dangerous and nightmare shift after shift

They will hit and skate past you and goaltender Cole will most likely be making the VHLM highlights. The only thing Minnesota is lacking would be a top center and are going to need one if they want to get chances to capitalize on, they are far ahead of other teams and are going to have a great year.

The Reapers have by far the most players and best talent and has enough TPE to split the team in two, definite cup contenders and award winners all over their roster. If the team could acquire any type of player it would be somebody to fill their already great depth but other than that expect to see them dominate next season because their top line all has 1,275 TPE between them and they have depth players bottom teams would dream to have along with a back up goaltender. Is there anything this team cant do? Seriously.. They deserve to be in a different league!

Should look at TPA per slot in the lineup, not total TPA. Philadelphia can't even play all of their forwards so counting the total of the roster doesn't really give a great comparison point. (That's just an example, I'm sure 1+ are inactives)

Total TPA based on lineup slot for the team is capped at 4400 (or 4200 if you don't include the backup goalie) for reference.

    Yukon would be: 1262 + 1002 + 94 = 2358

To go deeper you could do position caps too to get a efficiency in each:
    F= 1262/2400 = mental math 53%~
    D = 1002/1600 = 62.5%
    G = 94/400 = shitty

Even more statistically, could weight it all by ice-time / 60 lol. But this is enough math for today.

The Storm have the best defense in the league and just enough offense to go along with it, making them a huge threat and the bottom teams should prepare themselves.

The 21st have a very strong offensive starting line up, the forwards have a pair of scary scorers in Edvin and Passerelli and Hachimura threads the needle.

What do you always do before a game?

Well I wake up earlier than I usually do so I can get some cardio in and after that I eat a nice and healthy salad or something similar, not the most interesting pre-game ritual but I like to relax and make sure my body is ready for the full 60 minutes.

What do you think of our current roster?

It needs work but very promising, there were probably a lot of calls made during the off-season and I'm sure some are still being made. The staff have done a great job so far acquiring players and I have faith the roster will fill out and by next season we'll be competitive.

What are your goals for the season?

I'm aiming for 100 TPE right away and earn the extra 10, if I can manage to assist a fair amount of goals I'd be happy with my performance. Still new to the league and I know I could have an off year, no worries though, I'll be earning TPE along the way and improving my skill.

What do you think the team could improve upon?

Right now we need an active goaltender if we want to compete game after game.

Tell me something the GM and AGM should know about you?

I'm a hard worker and like to get things done, expect to see me around all season. I also like the Ottawa Senators, not sure if I've shared that with the team yet.. um burritos are delicious. Next question!

How would you describe your game?

quik and agile, crisp passing point producer with a work ethic that will drive you nuts. Expect to see highlight play attempts almost every night, I live for the moment and if I can get a chance on the breakaway watch out

    Player Biography

    Ryan Bobby Busser
    May 20th, 1994 (age 25)
    Vancouver, Canada

    Parents

Ryan Busser was born in Vancouver on May 20th, 1994, as the son of Bob Busser, a Canadian professional and Olympic cricket player, winning gold in 1982, and mail lady Karen Wilson. His father is native american and born in Canada. His mother, an American from Detroit. Bussers' father was playing a tournament in Michigan when he met his mother. His parents were both athletic and ran in many marathons. in 1983 after only a year of dating they would marry and plans for the future started, having a child was first on the list.

    Birth

It was a late afternoon on a Tuesday and the Price is Right was on, pregnant Karen Wilson was home alone and all of a sudden she felt sharp pains in her stomach, she then called her sister right away, she wasn't due for another four months. After that they jumped in the car and rushed to the hospital, when Wilson woke up the doctor spoke with a disappointing tone, after a long chat he finally told the sisters the baby may not make it and had a fifty percent chance of living, due to strangulation by the umbilical cord and had to have the operation immediately, while father Bob Busser was away overseas and had no idea of the circumstances. With luck and hard work by the doctors at the Vancouver General Hospital, Ryan was born, weighing a scary five pounds two ounces but healthy.

    Childhood

Ryan grew up a single child and had a lot of attention from his parents, his father had him playing sports at the age of five and was involved in football, basketball, hockey, soccer and cricket. His father took him to the gym all the time and even brought him along for the ride whenever he played professional tournaments, teaching Busser discipline and what it took to be an everyday athlete at an early age.

    Allergies

One day in the Summer of 1999, his father took him to go get a bite to eat after completing their daily workout routine, they decided to go to Bert's Hot Buns and fries and after a few bites in Ryan had a life altering allergic reaction, resulting in a ambulance ride to the hospital, later told he was allergic to red meat, the family was supportive and changed their diet, removing all beef and pork from their grocery lists.

    Public School

Busser was a class clown and was friends with most of his classmates, like most kids some sports are not for them and end up liking other activities more than others and at the age of ten, it was clear Ryan was mostly focused on hockey and with hard work and his father motivating him, he was named captain of his high school team at King of Whales Middle School. He would watch the Canucks play whenever he was allowed and collected over a thousand hockey cards in a couple of years, leaving the others kids in the dust at the local young center but his favorite thing to do was going to Vancouver games, it was hard for his family but they tried to buy as many tickets as they could and became a usual gift for his birthday and Christmas.

When Busser was fifteen he started to getting noticed by scouts, after winning back-to-back championships in grade nine and ten, and making the local newspapers sports section several times would go on to accumulate 101 points, assisting an outstanding 78 times in just 38 games, setting plenty of records and receiving a plethora of awards along with class honors. Ryan would join the Vancouver Giants the following year. This would change his social behavior, going from funny and outgoing to focused and barley seen.

    Vancouver Giants

After receiving and talking to the Vancouver organization for months he decided to join the team for a tryout, the decision  came with a lot of sacrifice if he made the roster. As months passed Ryan started to focus more and more on hockey. The time had come and Busser was ready to attend the life changing tryout and by the end of the day he impressed the Giants, making the team and days later Busser signed a three year contract. In his first season in the Western Hockey League he ended up playing fourth line minutes and was the extra man on the power play, the Giants didn't make the playoffs.

In his second year with the team he had even more opportunities and ice time but that came with a lot of responsibility, he ended up having a solid season and made the finals playing on the second line but his team ended up getting swept. Ryan would go on and win the Most Improved Player award and at the age of eighteen.

Ryan was in the final year of his contract and wanted to give it his all to impress scouts, at training camp it showed and he was named Captain of the team, he would go on to win the Most Valuable Player award and lead the Giants to a Western Hockey League Championship.

    Russia

Busser was hopeful and wanted to be drafted into the Victory Junior Hockey League, he got ready and his family joined him in the stands but his name was never called on draft night, with no other option and frustration he decided to fly to Russia and play in the Russian Junior Hockey League but he had to rush there because the draft was days away, he would arrive on time and  was drafted fifth overall, he would then spend the next five seasons playing in Europe and developing his game, he made four All Star Games and won a championship.

    Comeback

Ryan was a free agent again and had a huge decision to make, continue playing in Russia or try and get a contract closer to home, he spoke with his parents and they were in favor so he told his manager to get his name out there and after 5 years and plenty of Vodka, Busser was home, signing a one-year contract with the San Diego Marlins and will make his Victory Junior Hockey League
