“To bank, or not to bank: that is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to apply TP,
And benefit from the saves and percentages of outrageous fortune,
Or to take pads against a sea of forwards and offensive defensemen,
And by failing to stop them? To lose: to weep.

No more! It is by a glove save we will end,
The heartache of what a thousand boos gives way to
For alas, ‘tis a failure we’ll never know, and instead,
Thou shall devoutly wish us to WIN and weep!

So now, I sleep, perchance I dream of a special rub.
My head against the cup, a birth of what dreams may come,
Only then will I shuffle off this slick ice,
Only then will I pause, feeling what’s right
Respect from the glory of winning!
After all, it is all we desire of this so-called living.

    Royal Guard:

The Mexico City Kings have made headlines today, signing huge recreates to help bolster their lineup for the playoffs. The Kings, currently 23-20-9 sit tied for 7th place, 7 points in a playoff spot. With the recent acquisitions of @AJW, @Alex, and @Spaz, the team looks poised to potentially be a deadly underdog come playoff time. This team struggled at the beginning of the season, finding themselves in 9th place for most of the season, but recently after acquiring @RElblein, the team has been stepping it up and climbing the standings. If the Kings are able to get 5th, or even higher, this could be a sleeper team that could go very far in the playoffs and potentially win it all. On top of that, there could potentially be more moves made by the GM in getting more players to the Kings, so we'll have to see if that is going to happen!

diacope reacted to Ahma in David Jokinen Junior Review
David Jokinen was born in Davos, Switzerland. David is rumored to be former VHL player’s, Fernando Jokinen’s son. This is because he was born in Davos, shares the same last name with Fernando and happens to play ice hockey at the same position as the former VHL defenseman. David is also rumored to be related to a current VHL player, Erlantz Jokinen @jRuutu. These aren’t just rumors, because David is, in fact, Fernando’s son. Their relation to Erlantz remains mystery though.

After retiring, Fernando moved to his home country with his family. David was 9 at the time they moved. The young lad grew up watching his father play at the highest level wearing the HC Davos Dynamo jersey, David dreams of one day playing for the history rich franchise. David was raised mostly by his mother (up until 9 years old), because of Fernando’s hectic VHL travelling schedule. Fortunately for David, his father made the playoffs twice in his career, so they could spend time together during offseason. Fernando taught David everything he knew about hockey. Now, at 19 years old, David is like a mirror image of his father. Almost as tall and he has been spending time at the gym putting on weight and gaining strength.

“I feel like I’m ready to enter VHLM” stated David Jokinen in an interview. “I’m prepared for the next challenge. Liiga has nothing to offer me. I’ve enjoyed my time in Turku.” he added.
Though he may not admit it, it was Fernando who urged his son to join the VHLM sooner than later, opposite to Fernando’s own career. He joined the VHL system at the age of 25.

In Finland, David played in the Turun Palloseura (TPS) junior system. He played through the U16’s, U18’s, U20’s and at 17 years old he was called up to TPS’s Liiga team. TPS is known for high quality junior coaching and excellent junior management. Used to playing against older peers, but VHLM and the road to VHL will be tough and bumpy. He was called up at a young age, which shows his talent and potential. David has played in Liiga for two full seasons. He had no trouble starting and climbed up the ladder to a prominent role on the team fast.

    First season in Liiga (17 years old): 58 GP | 7G – 23A – 30P | +3
    Second season (18 years old): 60 GP | 9G – 33A – 42P | +11
    Third season (19 years old): 9 GP | 4G – 5A – 9P | +6

His third Liiga season has been cut short, because of him joining VHLM. David was paced for a tremendous season.

diacope reacted to 8Ovechkin8 in Theme week; GMs, assistants, presidents and NFTs
In todays VHL, the art of being a General Manager has changed to a more tactical approach rather than a social approach. As a veteran of the league since the seasons were in their teens, you could tell early on that to be a successful General Manager in the league you needed to have the popularity across the boards. There was no discord and there wasn’t necessarily track records for any general manager at the time as well so being a successful General Manager was mostly a social game rather than strategic. However that has changed as we are seeing GMs be with teams long term as well as assistant general managers becoming a role that is more valued as well. In the past, assistant general managers weren’t necessarily a big role, and mostly just given to people on the team as a social distinction with no official task list or duties to fulfill. That however has changed, as assistant general managers tend to be the first line of communication with a team and their management. Gone are the days in the VHL is a popularity competition between General managers and members with high post rating and in are the days where long term success and simulation structural planning is the key to success.

When we look at roles on teams however, could there possibly be a role as a president on teams now? When we look at what a general manager does, we see that they deal with transactions and interactions between players, teams and the league however would it make sense to add a president role to help with administration and team structure? This would allow general managers to focus on trades and player building rather than having to worry about any of the team’s inner workings.

Another thing to think about, is the league ready for team owners? The big question for this would be would we have real life people buying the team or would we use a currency in the league to create a new dynamic of the VHL? How could we add a value and a dollar figure to teams and how would teams generate money? Could this possibly be a situation where we as a league could adopt NFTs as a form of adding value to our league and potentially providing an income source to keep the league alive for years to come. How this could work would be that each team could have an NFT of higher value, and each player could have a player card as well. Having possession of this card or certain cards would allow a return in TPE, and potentially cash if the person was to sell their card down the line. Potentially looking at “power up” abilities per card is something that could be an interesting addition to what we know our league to be today.

With all these thoughts stemming from the role of the general manager, we can see that our league relies on them and they are an integral part of our future.

    The Draft Phase:

Drafting is one of the most important parts of GMing in the VHLM. It can literally make or break your team. Although drafting top rated prospects is essential in the draft phase, almost anyone can do this. The harder stuff comes in when you're left with lesser known players, you have to figure out which individuals will be able to stay active to contribute to the team’s success. I can't think of anything that feels worse than drafting a player that is or will be IA when it comes time to play in the regular season. This is why scouting comes in handy, being able to find out which players will mesh within your team just from a small interview is a skill that a GM should have to be successful in the VHLM.

    Waivers and Free Agents:

Waiver’s are also an incredibly important subject in the VHLM in a variety of ways. When an individual makes a player, it creates a wide array of opportunities for every team in the league. Being able to sign a few players throughout the season can do wonders for a team trying to make a push. While making teams that were thought to be out of the competitive picture, get back into it. Which is why you want to get as many waiver pickups as you can. Meaning that you have to be ready to pounce and get out your waiver pitches as quickly as possible when a new player is created. Then make the waiver pitch nice and eye-catching, and pray to god that the player picks your team.

    In-Season:

Although you’ve already done the bulk of putting your team together with Waivers and Drafting, we are still not quite there for a Founder’s Cup. Being able to create lines equally and fair, while putting out the most competitive you can is one thing VHLM GMs have to remind themselves of. It does wonders for retention, giving players ice time helps them keep checking in to see how their players are doing, keeping them around longer.

    Extras:

Although we’ve got a chunk of what VHLM GMing is, there are still topics that have yet to be discussed. Things such as locker room activity is incredibly important if you want a functional team that is interested in the league. Without keeping individuals engaged in the locker room newcomers find it hard to get their foot in the door for what awaits them further down the line in the VHL.

Build Help is also another thing that is something that is important within every team. We can’t expect everyone to know what they are doing, I know I didn’t when I was first starting out. Being able to keep in touch with player’s on how they are planning to build their player up helps the individual learn and become more informed on how the league works.

There you have it! These are just some of the many key points I have for GMing in the VHLM. I look forward to seeing how the VHLM season plays out after the trade deadline!

diacope reacted to KRZY in S85 theme week what makes a good GM
Well I forgot about theme week early last week and put together a media spot before it was announced. So I figure now is as good a time as ever to catch up and put out my theme week spot now.

First off what makes a good GM ? Well the answer is in my honest opinion quite simple . An individual who’s committed to putting together the best team they possibly can . While helping players grow and learn the in and outs of the league . A good GM also has good relationships with league staff and other GM’s throughout the leagues. Anyone can put a team together . But a great GM makes a team like a family.

I wanna take a minute to look back on my first few GM’s I’ve had the pleasure of playing for in my early tenure in the VHL.

First off we have @lil OG z without him I would’ve never been as interested in the VHL as I am not would I have gotten hooked either. He showed me the best ways to earn and how to earn the most TPE possible week in and week out. OG also helped me prepare for the S84 Draft as best I could. Without OG and his early influence and help I don’t think I’d enjoy being a part of this league or community as much as I do .

Next we have @AJWAJ was the GM that took a flyer on me in the first round of the VHLM draft in S84 . AJ built a phenomenal team in Houston that year he always kept the locker room engaged and was always super positive . ( this was the first season I used discord ) . A real result of his influence from that season is just how many players are staring in the VHL,VHLE, and VHLM this season . AJ helped a lot of them in more ways then one !

finally we have my GM this season @JB123JB was one of the first people who showed any type of interest in me in the S84 draft as he was the first team I interviewed with . All the way through S84 and into S85 we communicated and achieved the ultimate goal of Todd Cook playing for Oslo this season together. JB should also be recognized for being the man in charge of Oslo’s huge turn around from last season where they went from a last place finish to leading the VHLE  this season. JB also gave me the honour of learning the management ropes under his mentorship and guidance. He’s not only helped me as a player this season but in the management aspect too . And I can’t thank him enough for that .

I wanna also give a special shout-out to @InstantRockstarthank you for giving me the opportunity to eventually earn a spot playing for you on the stars. You’re an excellent GM and I look forward to learning from you aswell .

These 4 guys are the definition of what it takes to be a great GM . And I can’t thank them enough for all the help and support I’ve gotten from them the past 3 seasons!

diacope reacted to sadie in praising my GMs for extra TPE (they are genuinely awesome though)
So far, my journey in the VHL has been a great experience, and I’ve made some friends, had fun making content for TPE, and the people in general are pretty awesome! In this article I’ll appreciate some of the people who have helped make the VHL a better experience for me- the GMs I’ve had up to this point. If they hadn’t drafted or claimed me, I would have missed out.

I will start with the person who, in the midst of his waiver claiming insanity, offered me a contract on the day I joined: @jacobcarson877. He was my GM on the S84 San Diego Marlins and in the following offseason when I played for the Brigade in the Junior Showcase Tournament. He was extremely helpful from the beginning when I joined the San Diego locker room and, having a team of almost entirely new players, did a very good job of creating a good atmosphere in which people talked. It goes without saying that he was the one who brought the trio together for the first time. I had a lot of fun at the end of that season despite us missing the playoffs! Jacob was similarly helpful and kind in the Brigade locker room and we ended up winning the whole tournament (W Brigade we are built different)!

Next is @Lemorse7, who I was drafted by in the Victory Pro-Am League during the offseason as a part of the Arctic Ground Squirrels. Lemorse was a great GM; he always hyped everyone up after good games and the red panda content is amazing. He drafted an amazing team and it was really cool to have the opportunity to see how I can do playing with (and against) some of the very best VHL players (spoiler alert: I was absolute trash). I’m very excited that I have him as a GM again in the SBA on the Louisville Lions, so I’m sure that I will have a ton of fun there!

The last two GMs that I’ve had are my current GMs: @lil OG z and @Jason kranz who are the GM and AGM of the Ottawa Lynx. They took me 4th overall in the VHLM draft, which was awfully nice of them, and since then the Ottawa Lynx locker room has been good. Jason and Z are active a lot and give good reminders for TPE, and in addition to that they're just fun. They maintain an active locker room and get people hyped for sims. In my opinion, the atmosphere in the locker room is awesome because we have many active people who play games and ask questions. Our GMs must be doing an awesome job anyway because the Lynx are first overall in the VHLM (at least for now we are). Hopefully we can end up on top of the league at the end of the season and take home the Founders Cup!

Thank you guys for being great- hopefully I can get more good GMs in the future as Sadie St-Louis moves forward in her career!
