Well shit I'm sad. Thank you @Mr_Hatter for agreeing to rejoin Moscow for a second straight career. And thank you @Frank for committing to me so early in your time here in Moscow. I know I haven't repaid you guys for your commitment with a championship, so best of luck in Toronto. They've got a solid squad, so best of luck in your pursuit of the cup. Cheers to @Doomsday for your first banger of a trade! Thanks for the chats, and good luck next season. Welcome to Moscow @SpicyGecko, we're excited to add another young player with upside to the team!

S82 World Cup of Hockey GM's Announcement
Spartan replied to Spartan's topic in WC Team Announcements
It was just a note of how Team World would function IF they needed more players to complete their rosters. Fortunately, they were pretty deep this time around -

In the shadows of @Beketov's dark, damp (but child-proofed) basement, a Spartan lurked for the better part of the past two years. Soon after he joined the VHL in March 2020, his aspirations were set high - with the hopes of one day holding significant roles in the league to affect positive change, for the betterment of the league as a whole. But the path would be difficult - spending time waiting in Beketov's dungeon, which was designed to drive even the most patient man insane - along with a steep cost to gather the big lad's favor. The price to pay? Becoming a convert to Satanism, fully immersing oneself in the works of Ghost. Joining - and surviving - the seedy organization called VSN, known for sending hyperactive members to their demise, never to be seen again. Willingly choosing to take on more and more responsibility (and league blame) in the hopes of one day overthrowing those at the top and creating a loyal cult of Spartan worshippers being able to take on a coveted position: a commissioner. Since the last World Cup back in S80, both the former commissioners in @Ricer13 and @bigAL moved on with their lives. BigAL literally.....moved halfway across the globe to become a hermit in the mountains of Hungary, teaching children how to attain enlightenment or something like that. Ricer took over other offseason tournament roles in the ProAM and WJC, which left the WC without leadership and without any interest from the greater community. One fateful day, the light at the top of the basement stairs turned on. Inviting, beckoning, for an opportunity never available before. As the Spartan rose from his dank corner, the floor exploded with a bright fucking yellow creature flying out of it, and immediately racing up to the top of the stairs. In bewilderment, the Spartan crept towards the stairs, only to see a googly-eyed, bald creature clinging to the foot of Beketov, screaming "GIVE ME THE COMMISSIONER JOB." Beketov, with a look of disgust and irritation, simply said "You two can deal with it together. Never bother me about the World Cup again." --- And that's a 100% accurate depiction of how @Minion and I got the WC commish job! In all seriousness, it's going to be a fun tournament to run and get our fingerprints on, while also trying to revive the competitive spirit that the tournament seems to have lost in recent iterations. We're very happy with the GMs hired, and think that it'll be a fantastic tournament to watch - especially with all the S75's lacing up for one final set of games before retirement.

S82 World Cup of Hockey GM's Announcement

You're Swedish -> Nordic Greenland is recognized as Nordic as well lol -
Hello everyone! @Minion and I have been fortunate to take over the reigns of World Cup commissioner, and are excited to officially kick off the S82 World Cup of Hockey! In a nod to the way the tournament was run last time, and after noting the sheer amount of off-season opportunities for people looking to break into the world of GM'ing, we have decided to once again send out invitations to members around the league who have either cemented themselves as proven GMs in this league - or are folks we think are going to be the next top GMs. With the World Cup being a clash of the absolute top players in the league under the flags of their home countries and regions, it only made sense to select the most competitive and passionate GMs as well to maintain the high standard of play we expect from this tournament. In a slight tweak, we would also like to announce a slight re-alignment of the teams competing in the tournament. With the prevalence of European players, and a slight decrease in high end players in other major regions, Team Mercenaries will not exist for this World Cup. Instead, we will be adding Team East Europe, effectively splitting the existing Team Europe into East and West. If you're curious about which nations fall into East and West Europe, feel free to peruse the breakdown at this site here. Team World will continue to finish their roster with leftovers from any other region, effectively making up for the loss of Mercenaries this season. Without further ado, and with much hype, please welcome the selected GMs: Team Canada: @InstantRockstar Team USA: @Doomsday Team West Europe: @Arce I didn't think of how GIFs would get impacted RIP Team East Europe: @hedgehog337 this works lol Team Nordic: @BarzalGoat Team World: @Daniel Janser Congrats to all selected! Overall I think the concept is pretty neat, and closely mimics the fantasy style the EFL used to run. Basically players would be assigned dollar values, but it also factored in team state, actual attributes of the players, and whether they were actually favored for success or not. Positives: 1. Convenience - Without any reliance on anyone else to make your team, this is 100% more convenient than the VHFL's draft structure. I don't think there's any argument there. It's also probably the most overwhelming positive of this concept, which is quite important. People's time is valuable. 2. Value of TPE - With the payout dependent on percentage of scores, as well as a unique 6 for the overall winner, there is definitely more of a competitive incentive in picking your teams here. Removing the incentive to copy folks is also an interesting concept, and I think it's both a positive and a negative which I'll address later. Overall though, dropping your payout to the rank below if you tie seems like a good deterrent to be copying people. I'm not completely sure how often it would occur since payouts are dependent on overall participant percentiles vs VHFL's group-related scoring. 3. Strategy - I liked your point about budgeting, and how irl super coach would allow you to sell players whose values increase. Budgeting can definitely force people into making harsher decisions than they'd have to make in VHFL, and it'd potentially be more strategic than the VHFL. With a draft structure though, it's difficult to compare. Concerns: 1. Player Costs - I'm not sure what your scoring was since I don't see it in this post or in the original sign-up post, but in the old meta era I would see this format as a bit problematic for obvious reasons. As people start to discover build efficiencies, TPE doesn't adequately reflect skill level. People who have lower TPE but spend more efficiently could have equal if not better builds than those who have more TPE but don't build as efficiently. The way you assign the dollar value 2. Punishment for copying - One thing I've noticed is nice about all of the current Fantasy games is that players can either copy people more "knowledgeable" than them, or can get advice from their peers or GM's. In this system, they are punished for that with the bonus for non-unique teams (which seems a bit like a crapshoot) as well as the tiebreaker structure that could drop someone's TPE for copying someone else's team. 3. Incentive to participate - Convenience was a big + for me in this system, but it does have its limits. It's convenient from a time to complete perspective, but for those not overly familiar with the players in the league, the inherent punishment for copying negates the convenience aspect. With the scoring system as you highlighted, the average payout will definitely be lower than VHFL since only the overall winner of Super Coach will get 6 TPE, and ties drop people to lower percentiles. I don't know if I'd participate in Super Coach if I had to pick between VHFL and Super Coach, knowing I would average a higher payout in the VHFL.

HOF x3: VHL/SBA/EFL Hall of Fame Members
Spartan replied to CowboyinAmerica's topic in Archived Media Spots
Super cool article, I think I will fall under the camp of VHL and EFL HOF but no SBA HOF since I have my first SBA player right now, and he is just a rookie. Letang made the HOF here, and I think Markstrom will make the Hall in the EFL after he retires. Hope I make the list! -
Don't we have both a BlackGate jailor and a Batman in every game?

I'm being mildly dramatic here, it was just an unexpected volume increase for the transitioning music lol. Nice pod, hope to hear more of it!
