  2. A week into S72 and we've had mixed results. Let's break it down! 1. Due to Esso's conflict with work, AGM Spartan submitted lines for the first two games of S72. What were your thoughts on my line management debut? 2. Realized that I never asked this key question, but what is your goal for this season? 3. After 7 games, what are your thoughts on the team's performances? 4. What have you been most proud about your performance so far? 5. What are you going to try to improve the most after our first slate of games? 6. Lastly, what are your thoughts on our captain selections (which can be found here)?

  11. May 16th, 2020. 3 PM. Alex Letang sat nervously in his apartment, watching his phone sitting on his desk, waiting for it to buzz. Amid a busy day of moving out of his apartment, he made time to tune into legendary streamer @Esso2264's stream of the S72 VHL Draft. Letang had heard from multiple GM's over the past week, almost all of whom ensured he'd be a first round pick. But to Letang, where he went mattered. As a 3rd round pick in the S71 VHLM Draft, Letang had a lot of work to do in order to even be considered a top talent in the draft. Joining the eligible draft pool just mere days before the draft, very few GM's knew much about him. However, Las Vegas took a gamble on him, and the work he put in was consistent. Letang rose to the 10th or 11th best prospect in terms of TPE earning, and one of the top first-gens available. On draft day, all the work he had put in would finally get rewarded. But he still had to wait for the call. At 2:45, simply 15 minutes before the draft began, the phone buzzed. Letang jumped, not expecting a DM that soon. The name on the notification read "@Victor." The mysterious blue whom Letang had never spoken to, had just sent a message introducing himself. The two began some idle chit chat, only sending about 8 messages total, before the conversation died out as the draft began. The first few picks went as expected, with Hornet and Winter both going to Davos, with Mitchell also going to Calgary. Vancouver, a team that had expressed interest in Letang, went with Digiannantonio at 4, a bold choice considering the history between the GM and the player. LVA teammates went at 5 and 6, and this is where Letang went on edge. Vancouver had expressed a strong interest in Letang, and they were back on the clock here. Although the 11th best prospect, Letang was hopeful that he would be chosen that soon. However, in a pick that wasn't very surprising, Vancouver went with Jungkok. Malmo was up next, but was a team Letang hadn't been in contact with. With the first shocker of the draft, Malmo selected Kamenov, a player many expected to be available at Malmo's next pick in the 2nd round. And now, it was Moscow on the clock. Top talents such as Lucas Brandt, Timothy Brown, and Andrew Su were all still in play. Letang continued watching his phone, waiting for any kind of communication. Unsurprisingly though, the pick was Brandt, Letang's fellow first-gen player. Helsinki took their GM player at 10, and then it was back to stressing. Letang had previously thought his floor was at 9, where both Vancouver and Davos had both held picks. But now he was slipping, and Su and Brown were still available. Letang was preparing to be the one to slide into the 2nd round, when his phone finally buzzed. It was an invite from Victor, with no words necessary. Alex Letang was a Moscow Menace! The real grind starts now. Word Count: 523
  12. Alex Letang - D Las Vegas Aces - S71-72 - 26th OA 6'0 - 180 lbs Overview Alex Letang, in the most humble way possible, may have been the steal of the S71 VHLM Dispersal Draft. The fleet-footed defenseman quietly played over 22 minutes per game, which ratcheted up to over 25 or 26 minutes per game after the hiring of offensive minded GM @Proto. The slim defenseman isn't much of a physical presence, but isn't afraid to play aggressively when asked to. Letang racked up a modest 39 hits, but also blocked 77 shots while posting a +44, showcasing his ability to be solid in all aspects of the game. Offensively, Letang left the grunt of the work to the stars on the S71 LVA team, posting 10 goals and 46 assists in the regular season, adding another 5 goals and 5 assists in 12 games in the playoffs. Letang has flashed his potential towards the end of last season, garnering the attention of the VHL and the VHLM for S72. As the stars on LVA have mostly departed to the VHL, it'll be largely on Letang's shoulders to showcase his leadership ability, as well as to prove whether he can be a #1 defenseman for a team. Strengths Skating: Alex Letang has always been known for his skating prowess. His agility and speed helps him stick to forwards in the defensive zone, while also leading rushes out of the zone. He has also used his speed frequently to avoid breakaways and two-on-ones, further contributing to his strong defensive play. His ability to be strong on his skates bolsters the team's ability to withdraw pucks out of their own zone, and begin the transition into the neutral and offensive zones. Defensive Awareness: As has been made aware and highly touted, Letang has been a key part of LVA's defense, playing on both the power play and penalty kill lines as well. As a part of the formidable defensive group last year, Las Vegas suppressed shots like one of the best teams in the VHLM, and a large part goes to Letang's penchant for getting into shot lanes and his stick work. His stick lifts in front of the net and his ability to poke check even the best of forwards helped Las Vegas allow the least shots against in the league, making life easy for rookie goalie Nils @Biggreen10 Friedriksen. Puck Control/Passing: Letang has also strongly improved on his puck handling and passing skills over the course of the season, and his passing may have been the best among the defensive group on the team. Letang greatly reduced his turnovers, contributing it to a fresh focus on expanding his passing skills. Letang worked with the forwards over the past season to hone his skills, including breakout passes and slap passes to generate more offense while on the ice. Passing is easily one of the strongest parts of Letang's game, but he has even more room to improve. Weaknesses Strength: It's quite clear that Letang's frame isn't built to deliver hits or outmuscle a power forward at the net. He lacks the muscle mass to effectively tie a player up in front of the net, but makes up for that with his sly use of crosschecks and stick tie-ups. He remains disciplined in this aspect, only gathering 22 penalty minutes in 72 games. However, Letang needs to build up his strength to be able to continue in his development as a defenseman. While this build may allow him to out-skill other players in the VHLM, it will definitely be an area to improve on when he graduates to the VHL and Moscow. Ability to Carry the Offense: Letang was blessed to be on a team of offensive juggernauts such as Joe Proto, SS Hornet, Pengu and Vladimir Shaposhnikov, which allowed him to focus on his defensive game and simply supporting the skilled group of forwards. However, S72 will show if Letang can truly step up as a star on the team and generate enough offense to keep the team within sights of another deep playoff run. So far, Letang has simply flashed the ability, with a handful of multi-goal games, and 4 games where he was named the 2nd or 3rd star. The big question will remain, can he truly be THE star?

  14. I can't write or build hype for shit, but this man certainly can! He'd be a great addition!
  15. It'll be my honor to continue to do battle on the ice against who I consider to be very strong first round talent ?
  16. We're just about in S72 folks! Here are some questions to mull over before we hit the ice! 1. Did you tune into the VHL Draft on Saturday? If so, what was the biggest highlight to you? 2. We were able to draft 3 rookies on Saturday. What advice would you give them as a player who has been around the league for at least a season? 3. What are your thoughts on the quality of @Esso2264's streams? 4. Training Camp officially opens up today. What are you looking forward to working on the most while on ice for the first time this season? 5. If you haven't already, sign up for the VHFL here! Which player would you definitely try to draft for your fantasy team? 6. Victor posted a poll asking which team would miss the playoffs in each conference. Who do you think they'll be and why?
  17. did perform my role, just a bit too early to be revealing the results of my action. would prefer not to slip back into the trend of dying n2 lol
