I think we made good moves. It was great to spend a first season in the majors with a full calendar of games, facing top cometition.

 

2. How was your individual performance this season?

Obviously, I'd like to have done better, but I faced a ton of shots, made a lot of saves.

I was really happy with some of our upsets over top teams.

 

4. Our season is over, but we are taking part in the lottery tournament. At which position do you think we will finish the 10 game tournament?

Unfortunately, I think we'll struggle, but we'll see.

5. What team are you rooting for in these playoffs we barely missed?

Gotta watch the first round and see who looks like fun.

6. Who has your vote for MVP this season?

Gotta be Tate or Adrienne, both put up strong numbers.

As a keeper, these are amazing, you just keep hanging in there. It can be frustrating though, as you'll never get a chance to win it, just keep it going

It's tricky, save percentage is pretty good, but we're giving up a lot of shots, so GAA isn't looking hot.

I didn't have too many expectations, so overall, I'm pleased that we're getting wins

4. What made you choose the position that you play?

I love that feeling of robbing my foes.

Smooth the onboarding process, I remember really feeling lost when I was getting started

We gave up too many shots, it's hard to win that way.

Regular season went well, but the playoffs were definitely disappointing.

 

3. If you had any goals for yourself, did you meet them?

No, I wanted to win, or at least go deep.

 

4. Las Vegas was honored to have so many active players on the team. Who was someone on the team who you loved to be around and chat with?

The whole group is really great.

 

5. With the upcoming VHL draft, and most of you eligible, which team would you like to play for?

I'll be leaving ot play in London.

 

6. What was your favorite moment this season on Las Vegas?

We had some huge wins over big teams, and our young players made a lot of progress.

I've actually been the slacker. Summer holidays interfering. Glad to see the rest of the team keeping it up.

 

2. When the season started Miami looked like the easy favorites, but now they seem beatable. How close do you think the VHLM playoff race will be?

There's generally a few favorites with a tight battle for the last few spots, I expect that again this year.

 

3. This one has been going around twitter lately. Pick 2 to defend you from the rest: 50 hawks, 10 crocodiles, 10,000 rats, 3 grizzly bears, 7 bulls, 1 human hunter, 15 wolves, 5 gorillas, or 4 lions. Explain your 2 picks.

I'd take the human and the grizzlies. I think I'm a bit vulnerable to the 10,000 rats, but frankly everything here is. Humans are the apex predator of earth, and grizzlies are tough as nails.

 

4. Does anyone ever want to play CS:GO or Valorant with me? It's lonely solo queuing  

Don't play those, sorry!

 

5. Would you rather take more money and play for a worse team, or less money and play for a team that has a shot at the cup?

At this point in my career the cup.

 

6. What is your favorite part of being on LVA? 

We have a great team dynamic in the lockerroom and have for a few season.

The summer I was 13 was the first season at the summer camp I spent the next 6 years at, made a ton of new friends.

One of the strange part of my jobs is that I play with everyone on the team, each D-pair and each flight of forwards are my linemates.

 

2. On a weirdness scale where would you rate your GM @Spartan from 1 to 10?

 

Maybe 3? Nothing too weird.

 

3. How have you adjusted to life now living in Las Vegas?

 

It's hot! Much hotter than home, but the casino buffets are no joke!

 

4. What is your definition of "winning" when it comes to hockey and the VHLM?

 

Obviously when we finish the game with more goals than them. However there are wins that don't feel like it, games where I give up too many goals and get bailed out. We get a W on the schedule, but I don't feel as great inside.

 

5. What is your hot take for this VHLM season?

 

Keep an eye on us. 

 

6. There's 2 minutes left in a hockey game and you're the top line center. You know you're probably going to have to play about 1:30 of that 2 minutes, but you have to take a dump really really bad. What's the move?

Try to sneak out a fart to reduce the pressure.

So far things are going well. I think overall Spartan has kept to the script that was working.

I missed what they are, but trust the brain trust at the top to pick well.

I play here and there, but VHLM salaries aren't infinite!

I work in higher education and have done extensive training on fostering diverse communities. I know that when I first joined the league, I quickly stopped looking too closely at the Discord because the environment was pretty unwelcoming and nearly made me leave the league before being drafted. Luckily, my team's discord was a much different environment where I have settled in and am now really enjoying the VHL(M). I also moderate a couple of subreddits, including one in the past that was also a sport sim league for F1.

Proto really got me going on the team and in the league, I owe a lot to him.

Don't mess with success. We look really good right now, and the most important thing is to keep that rolling.

Keep playing smart. Good lines, good TPE accumulation will yield W's.

I'm focusing on using my size more effectively in goal, finding ways to make saves without expending energy.

Playing some cards with my friends. It's been too long since we've gotten to share a beer in person.

6. If you had the chance to bring a new team to the VHLM, where would you want them to play and why?

Buffalo, NY. Great hockey town, and that area of the country is underrepresented in the league.

1. At 18-4-0 through 22 games we've been one of the hottest teams in the VHLM. What has been the biggest factor to our great start?

 

We've had strong performance all around. I have a number of shutouts, but we also have a handful of 5+ goal games.

2. What is the one aspect you feel your player has excelled in the most this season?

 

Rebound control has gotten a lot better. We're giving up more shots than last season, but fewer junk goals.

3. What is one aspect you feel your player can improve the most at this season?

 

Looking forward to maintaining focus in high shot count games. It's a bummer to have a killer period or two and then just have it fall apart.

4. Ottawa has had our number this far this season, beating us in our two matchups. With another game against the Lynx coming up, what can we do to emerge victorious this time around?

 

I would look to management to tinker with lines and figure out how our personnel can best counter theirs.

5. Who has been the team MVP this season thus far?

 

I'd like to throw myself in the ring. 18-4 over 22 games, a 2.1 GAA and a .91 save percentage have been big parts of our success.

6. Who has been the most surprising success story for us this season?

 

Gotta be Matty Socks, newer guy, on the small side, but putting up results.

Feels great! Team is really clicking and we've come out hot!

finishing at 5-1 is just about as good as you can hope.

3. Do you think we can maintain the pace that we are on?

If you look at the numbers, I think we can keep rolling. We're giving up a lot of shots, but I'm playing well. As everyone else keeps developing, it should all come together.

4. What's your signature move after you score a goal?

I haven't scored a goal since I was 11 years old!

5. If your player had a documentary made about them, what would the title be?

Oh, I don't know, maybe "Nils Friedriksen, the Great Northern Goaler"

Luckily a lot of my work is high intensity cardio and flexibility, so I'm able to train in my flat for the most part.

I'm hoping to have some continuity from last season.

3. What skill have you improved the most this offseason?

 

Nothing out of the ordinary, putting a little focus on bulking up, but realistically there's room to grow everywhere.

4. Returning players, who are you most excited to play with and why? Or new draftees, which Las Vegas vet are you looking forward to playing with the most and why?

 

I had a great time in the locker room and I'm loooking for another season of that camaraderie.

5. In your eyes, what would the Las Vegas Aces mascot look like?

 

A giant anthropomorphic playing card.

6. What would be your biggest goal heading into the beginning of the season?

 

Looking forward to getting my save percentage up.
