dlamb got a reaction from Frank in Recruitment, how were you recruited?
I had definitely seen the subreddit ads (on r/BostonBruins I think?) long before I decided to actually join, maybe even years before. I got recruited kinda by @Enorama and kinda by @flatl99 talking about it in our EHM League, and even at first I was skeptical of adding unneeded "homework" to my routine. But as Eno explained to me that it could basically be summed down to 20 mins or so per week, I decided to create. I do agree that there's something about a personal connection while being recruited and having someone to always bounce questions or ideas off of or at least guide you through your first few days/weeks here. dlamb reacted to aimkin in Reddit as a Recruitment Tool
As someone who was brought to the VHL through a post in the Pittsburgh Penguins subreddit, I think it’s important that we try to use Reddit as a recruitment tool. Obviously posting to other subreddits was a good idea for a while and I know that a lot of groups have closed off to the idea of outsiders posting. However, we have our own subreddit which is so barren it might as well not exist. For starters, there are only 5 members including myself so clearly there is no community there and no one is interacting. So here are a few suggestions I have which can be worked on as a group both from within and out of the recruitment team.
Branding
Other than the name r/VictoryHockeyLeague there is no branding on the subreddit. The banner, theme, and icon are all standard Reddit blue. The icon for starters, is just the VHL logo. Pretty simple and an easy place to start. Now, I don’t know if we have anything laying around that we could use for a banner but I’m sure someone would be able to whip one up for a quick and easy 6 TPE. As for the theming and color scheme of the page, I don’t know if that’s a subreddit feature that is easy to change or requires someone with HTML to fix up but I’m sure someone could figure out how to make everything either black or dark gray to go with the forum and icon colors.
Content
As of right now, the only two posts on the subreddit are that the VHL has been created from 5 years ago and a hello from 4 years ago by Dil. Now, we certainly don’t need original content exclusively for the page but we can all cross-platform post our content of images and articles. Hell, that might open more people up to discussing or commenting if they are more inclined to use Reddit over the forum. Content also creates traffic and activity which will then push some content to the front page or at least to areas of the site that can easily get new eyes. Now of course that won’t guarantee that just because someone takes interest in the subreddit that it will transfer to them coming to the forum to join, but traffic is always good for any social media algorithm.
How-To
Since Reddit allows you to pin content to the top, I feel like this would be a great place to post how-to videos for using the site and also a way to introduce people quickly and easily to the concept. Not everyone knows how a sim league works (I didn’t when I joined) so they may think it’s too complex or not interactive enough for their comfort. I think it wouldn’t take too much work for a person or group to work on putting videos together. A simple voice over script and some screen capturing and mouse tracking could lead to a good starter video. I know we have some on a YouTube channel somewhere but I believe that those are a few years old and are now obsolete in many ways since not only did the attributes change but even the creating a player part of the process has been updated. I think it would go over well to recreate those videos with updated information.
Overall, I think that if we use it correctly, Reddit could be a great recruitment tool. It will take some time to get things going but I believe that in the long run, it could lead to people to the VHL and a tickle of new members could be possible.

Next season theme week better be "theme week" cause we've definitely identified who truly needs the help here.

Somewhere in the HF Boards Fantasy Hockey Talk section, not sure where or what the rules are on advertising, but that's above my pay grade.
EHM The Blue Line forums in this section, the level of nerd overlap is fairly large proven by the amount of EHMers already here.
A new(er) advertisement on the STHS Forums in the league advertisement section would be good as well.
This site is pretty good as well, not sure if we've tried that recently. Give me evidence of moderators shutting us down or I'll keep saying it.
I think people just need more ways to find the site to begin with, passive links in forums like these are free, easy, and even if they don't serve as a recruitment drive, will bring people to the site over time.

For what it's worth I called out those folks for not applying to the recent hiring thread. I've seen Blues say the same as well - people like to complain or offer solutions, but won't readily put in the work. I've brought their names to Moon for him to reach out to them if they're willing to help. I assume that they are if they're offering in gen chat.
But your contributions are appreciated and I'm glad you helped out on your own accord. I'll also back up my own words and assist in the recruitment server when it comes to figuring out some plans for future efforts.

There was a schedule, but there's been a lot of turnover since. I believe Mubbles, Thad(?), N0H, AJW and Ricer all left the team. It's currently Moon, Subject, Triller + V2 as graphics, Tet and VLG as new hires. I think.
I still don't think that daily social media posts are the line we need to draw or the standard we need to set. Reduce the frequency of the posts, raise the quality of our posts. Brainstorm what attracts user's attentions. These are in all essence advertisements - so you need to put some thought into what attracts users instead of just leveraging someone's PT with some special effects. Slow down the posts if needed. Once per week is FINE. Just understand the purpose and give it commensurate effort to execute.

Same old problems, same discussions, same old solutions - this hockey experience fundamentally hasn't changed, but something's gotta give.
Look at the keeners around trying to make improvements to the site, getting shut down left, right, and center (this hasn't changed either - I once tried so hard and only got so far, but in the end, it didn't even matter).
Listen to the members, especially those who want to make a difference. These are the most engaged, informed, and caring members. Take risks, make changes, adapt, improve, repeat. And make this experience engaging again, don't try make people be engaged in the VHL (that comes with the former).
This place will be long dead before we know it if overhauls don't start happening

For real though, we could definitely use a script or video that we could just plaster everywhere. Even different Youtuber ad reads from what I remember are wildly different in how they explain what the VHL is.
