  1. Welcome to the VHL, gh0st15! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!
  2. It’s also 10 TPE now instead of 20
  3. You shouldn’t be
  4. That has yet to be decided.
  5. You guys are getting very good at making these decisions very difficult. This was an absolutely phenomenal group of candidates and honestly even our “short list” wasn’t very short because of it. @Quik and I put a lot of thought into the matter and poured over some excellent interviews to decide on, officially, the new GM of the Helsinki Titans. Please join me in congratulating @Rayzor_7 who will be taking over the historic Titans coming off yet another excellent campaign that saw them make the Continental Cup finals. We hope that he has as much good fortune with the team as those who have come before him.
  6. Each time you ask I’m delaying it.
  7. Speaking pretty from experience: You squeeze it in on evenings and weekends mostly and end up being primary a mobile user. That's not necessarily a bad thing and it obviously even depends on the person heavily. Most jobs are going to have a pretty set schedule so there's still plenty of "free time" even if when that free time sits moves around a bit from what you are used to right now. I used to check the VHL during class because, why not. Now I mostly check in at night because that's when I'm free. It's just different, not necessarily better or worse. I've taken on more VHL responsibility post graduation than I ever did when I was in high school or university.
  8. You just need to use the full length link:
  9. The problem with doing it across the board is you could have a team like Chicago that, when this was announced, had only 8 skaters. Give them an extra 5M in cap and are they likely to pick up 4 more guys or just 1 really good one? Not saying Jeff would have done this, just an example. The main issue was roster space, not really cap. So to increase that we're offering the incentive of having more cap to play with. It's definitely got a certain amount of jank but it's needed.
  10. Correct. It's not an elegant or perfect solution but we needed something in the short term. Assuming I'm reading this right anyway. If you mean penalty to going over without the roster amount then yeah, normal penalties apply. if teams don't have the required 12 skaters at at least 1 goalie and they go over $40M they will be punished.
  11. It has been tradition for awhile, ever since I complained that @Quik's titles were too vague.
  12. Of note these two changes are a stop-gap measure but we recognize are likely not enough to completely eliminate the issue. There are bigger things in the works but having them ready for right now is simply not realistic. More will come but this should help in the short term.
  13. This is 100% the right place for it; although if people want a lot of political talk we could make a whole sub-forum for it so that it's more topics and fewer posts which makes moderation easier. No reason to do that yet though.
  14. God damn it, who wrote that craziness.
  15. Why you tagging me? Go buy it if you want it.
  16. It was when I started typing to be fair, I just typed a lot more than I intended. Exactly, making it impossible to actually have any kind of reasoned debate. Again though, for what benefit? Someone has to babysit an entire channel, which will then go to shut whenever they are asleep, just so people can avoid discussing politics on the forum where it’s better suited to it and easier to moderate? Just doesn’t make a lot of sense. The easier solution would be “use the forums”. Didn’t mean to imply that it was, just getting ahead of the expected argument.
  17. You posted this what, a minute ago, and I am responding? Would that not be considered relatively real time? Especially for the length of posts that are possible on here vs. Throwing 2 words together and hitting send so that it isn’t immediately buried in other discussion? Longer conversations are not necessarily a bad thing. They not only allow for more time to formulate a thought but they allow for people to actually come into a conversation and be able to acquire context rather than simply jumping it with no knowledge of what’s been said because it’s been buried a hundred times over. I believe both of those things are much more suited to a political discussion than quick, off the cuff responses. In addition I completely disagree with your draft comparison. For one, I don’t find people telling “draft hype” to really be engaging in any way but even if we ignore that, throwing around 2 words to get people excited is a completely different situation to having a thoughtful political debate. One is more suited to discord, as you have pointed out, but that does not mean the other would be. Just as an aside as well, in the time it has taken me to type this response how many discord messages would have been posted? Therefore how much extra fragmentation would this discussion have? How hard would it be to follow the thread? This is only a discussion about a discussion, with no real hard hitting points being thrown. How messy would it become on discord? Historically: very. It is not worth the risk. Also even the “well it’s preferred” argument doesn’t hold weight against my moderation point. The mods are busy people, they can’t spot all their time having to police one section because it’s known for getting out of hand. We aren’t censoring discussion here, we’re simply moving it, that’s not a bad thing.
  18. At the end of the day we are offering you a solution. You want to talk politics, do it here. I get that it’s not your preferred place of discussion but it is one. I don’t see a reason to risk things getting messy and out of hand and heated very quickly which much more limited options to do anything about it when a perfectly valid option already exists. Like those comments above me pointed out, things can get heated far too easily and far too quickly on discord and it can blow up into a major problem much faster. In addition mods would need to be around to constantly monitor it vs. Being able to easily receive reports from the forums. The benefit does not outweigh the risk here for me. You want to talk politics, you are welcome to do so on the forum.
  19. Points at my above comment. There is literally nothing stopping people from talking politics on the forum if they want to.
  20. Welcome to the VHL, Thunfish! We're happy to have you. 21. Keep in mind as well, politics is NOT banned on the forum. People seem to like to forget that this handy dandy forum exists. So if you want to have that friendly, respectful debate on the forum you are more than welcome to. You could ask: well if it’s fine on the forum why not on discord? To which I would respond: it’s easier to moderate. Topic gets out of hand? No problem, we can hide the entire thing in one click and retain the evidence we need if punishment is required. On discord we’d have to individually delete the comments while others fly in and then sift trough the logs after for any evidence we need. So basically my response: if you wanna talk politics just use the forum.
  22. There’s a joke here… I know there is…. I think I’ve spent too much time in the toxic early VHL nostalgia train tonight.
  23. Hopefully you get along better with a Bana run Seattle than I ever do. I always enjoyed myself but am forever cursed to not make the finals.
  24. Had to get another one since White’s “lowest Szat point total” one was beat a few times. At least Lahtinen got playoffs every season, not sure I ever did that before.
  25. Hey I finally listened to this! The VHLM draft board does exist by the way, exactly the same as the VHL (I don’t think there’s anything that only one of the two has) it’s just that the board doesn’t exist until the lottery is run so you probably recorded this after the VHL lotto but before the M one. Either that or you just never flipped the league selection switch.
