Don’t sleep on the ‘M’s most underrated talent Thomas Matthews of the Houston Bulls has been making big moves to become a heavy-hitter in the VHLM, and nobody is noticing…yet HOUSTON, TX (10/04/2022) – It seems as if every draft in the history of drafts amongst any sport has what many refer to as a “dark horse.” What is a dark horse exactly? Well–the dark horse is an underrated and overlooked talent of a group of things. This emerging talent out of the Houston Bulls system in the Victory Hockey League Minors (VHLM) might be the dark horse of the upcoming S86 draft this offseason. Meet Thomas Matthews, a right-wing out of the Bulls. He’s recently moved up from the third line to the first, playing 25 games and scoring six goals and 20 points in 25 games. He joined the squad via. waiver signing in the middle of the S85 season and has been putting up a show in front of packed Houston arenas every night ever since. “Thomas Matthews has stepped up to what the GM needed after he traded The Mediocre One, his Star Center. Although Matthews is an RW, he has been the #1 C for the bulls since he left and has recorded 2 goals and 5 assists in his past 2 games,” Matthews says to our crew in the locker room last night postgame when asked about his season and goals, “I want to be a captain one day, but right now, my focus is on development. I have no plans on anything but my skill development.” With his great stats and work ethic (maxing out most weeks), Thomas is planning to become an elite player in the league one day. With only 11 wins this season, Istanbul’s Professional Hockey Club is Fed-Up Many players of the VHLE squad have come out and publicly stated that the 11-37-6 record is “not who we are… unacceptable.” ISTANBUL, TURKEY (10/03/22) – Amidst a historically bad season for the Istanbul Red Wolves hockey club of the Victory Hockey League Europe (VHLE), during a recent press conference after the 8-1 loss to the Oslo Storm, the team expressed their displeasure with the team’s success. “Our team has done very little night in and night out to win,” Says the club head coach, “To be straight up with you…we suck, like really suck.” The coach had some choice words after his club only scored one goal against the Storm. “I mean damn it, we should’ve had that game,” He also stated. The Red Wolves have faced many challenges with their team’s success this season–low amounts of players, lack of talent–they’ve seen everything. They have a lot of players in the prospect pipeline that will be able to compete with the team next season. It gives fans something to look forward to, as they focus on the draft. Istanbul has six draft picks in this upcoming draft (S86), with two of them being first-round picks. One of those picks was acquired in a trade with the Geneva Rush giving their first-round pick to the Red Wolves in exchange for the Bratislava Watchmen’s first and second-round picks in the S86 draft. Geneva is amongst the bottom three in the standings–their record is 24-26-4, which makes their draft placement rather high. The Wolves are in dire need of personnel for this upcoming season. Goaltender Lachlan Summers of the San Diego Marlins in the Victory Hockey League Minors (VHLM) is a great candidate for Istanbul to snag up with Geneva’s pick. The starter for the Marlins has an impressive stat line for this season, amassing a 25-21-6 record, 0.917 save percentage, and a 2.41 goals against average (GAA) between the pipes. Summers is looking like a great candidate for their starting role next year if they get drafted by the Wolves. When asked about the team’s success as of late, the fans share the same emotions expressed by the coach. “We suck, we can’t score, we’re awful,” One fan says to our crew in downtown Istanbul after the game, “But we can get better…we just need to put more effort on the ice night in and night out. Our scorers need to do their job, our goalie needs to make more clutch saves, and our defense has to shut down plays earlier.” The VHLE has only been a league for five seasons and played for four. The Wolves are on pace to only win roughly 15 games this season. That would make them one of the worst-performing teams in league history. You don’t ever want to be a part of that company. They have one thing to look forward to in the draft. Maybe then, these Wolves can fix their roster and try to compete for next season. They went far in the playoffs before, they can do it again. Other teams that are contending for a high pick in the draft would be the Rome Gladiators and would be the Geneva Rush, but they gave their pick to Istanbul in the trade mentioned above. All we can hope for is a better season next year, and for this one to end with at least 10 extra wins. No more being fed up.

A Light in the Dark of Mexico City’s Rough Start Darius Marimoto II’s blazing hot start has fans in Mexico City excited for what’s next. MEXICO CITY, 9:49 PM EST, 09/09/2022 – In the height of a successful draft for the Mexico City Kings, the team has lost three with one overtime loss out of five games they’ve played this season–with a goal differential of -3. With the team as a whole performing below average so far, a newly-drafted player straight from Japan is getting the stands packed again. Darius Marimoto II, right wing, is tearing up the Victory Hockey League Minor league (VHLM) currently, with an impressive stat line: four goals, four assists, and eight points. He was awarded first star honors in the season opener for the Kings against their inter conference rival, the San Diego Marlins. He got two of his four goals in that game. Marmoto II reigns from Japan, where his father, Darius Marimoto, was born and raised also. He moved overseas at 18 to pursue new opportunities in North America, and eventually found his way to the VHLM draft stage. “I’m very excited for what’s to come for our team,” A Kings fan said to our crew this afternoon. “It’s a very exciting time to be a Kings fan! Mexico City hockey has never looked this bright and promising in ages.” The statement came after a big win against the Saskatoon Wild. It’s a very good time to be a Mexico City fan right now. Many of the fans are hopeful of an eventual season turnaround for their team, with their firepower growing in power every practice and match. The Return of the Mac (Darius Marimoto) And yes, I'm back Before I get started in telling the tale of one Darius Marimoto the 2nd, yes, I am back. For good this time, I promise. It’s been busy for good ol’ Bobo, and I needed some time away from the ‘V to focus on my life. But I’m back, and ready to dominate! Now, y’all probably know the first Darius Marimoto at least somewhat well. Reapers legend, Chicago legend, VHL’s greatest right winger for like a season? Yeah, him. Well, he had some children, others of which weren’t as successful as his own DM the II. This kid played with confidence at all levels of competition. From Japan to the wonders of North America, the Marimoto hype train finally began to gain some steam again. Full send down the tracks of professional hockey. He was recruited by many collegiate-level programs from the NCAA and ACHA associations. He was a hot commodity for many households, and hockey fans around the country knew his name. The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor offered him what sounded like a great package; NIL deals and a top roster spot! He eventually declined, after hearing about the endless possibilities of a different league: the VHL! His eyes sparkled and widened at the thought of suiting up for any club of this league, as his dad did once before many seasons ago. He was thrilled, yes, but also a bit scared. He was only 18, and had just gotten accustomed to the American way of living. He was ambitious, hungry, and determined however to hit the ice and give his all for any franchise that batted him an eye. Like his dad, he loves competition, and loved it while playing U18 in Japan before moving to the US. The feeling of thrill and adrenaline rushes through him while he plays, making him one of the most explosive players of his generation. They called him the rocketman in his league, and led the league in goals and points. “He’s light as a feather on the skates, and a workhorse on and off the ice. He’s an exemplary student in his classes, and a true leader in his community. A great next coming in the Marimoto family,” says the Japan Times in a recently published headline on the greatness of DMII. Truly one of a kind. Now with him becoming another legend in the Darius pipeline, many VHLM teams have their sights set on the new Japanese phenom. The star-bound sharpshot landed a gig in Mexico City, and is playing on the second line. He has something to prove to an organization now, and the future is surely bright. Get hype.
