Yeah I'm coming back, I aim to be moderately active from now until September. I don't remember when I stopped coming to the forum and the discord, I think it was around late 2022. I had a lot going on with school and hockey, and I couldn't fit anything else in. My life's gotten kinda crazy - I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in April, which was obviously a huge lifestyle change for me. Luckily I have a great team at my hospital and my family and friends have been awesome, so I got back on my feet and started playing hockey again about a week and a half after the diagnosis. The biggest change was my weight. Throughout early 2023, despite eating huge meals and building tons of muscle, I had trouble staying above 130 lbs. One of the symptoms that tipped me off about my diabetes was that the day before I went to the hospital, I was 118 lbs. After I started to get better, I skyrocketed to 145 lbs, and I'm closing in on 150 now, with 160 being the goal by the end of the summer. Just 2 weeks after my diagnosis, I went on a trip with my hockey team to Sweden and Finland, which was absolutely incredible. We got absolutely whacked by the local teams, but it was an unforgettable experience, and it made us want to live in Stockholm (that is still my plan). After I got back, I went to my first Junior A camp and was cut, but it was also a fantastic experience and gave me a sense of what I'm working toward. I'm looking forward to an eventful summer with my first job, relentless training, and back to having fun with the VHL.

Side note: After some deliberation where I considered recreating, I decided to stick with Cobalt Burns until he retires. I feel like I owe it to the teams that I went inactive on, and recreating feels like quitting. I do plan on testing free agency this offseason, and finding a team where Burns can flourish. My goal is to be a max earner for most of the summer.

Cheers, and looking forward to interacting with all of you once again!

Now that I am with my VHL team, the London United, I wanted to put something together for the whole team.  What better way than a video played for the crowd as the team enters the ice!  Took me awhile to cutout and logo swap 11 players but other than that I think it went pretty smoothly!  I don't have much experience audio mixing so I learned a few things there!  Hope everyone enjoys!  Here is your Season 88 London United!

I'm currently reading Once a Runner by John L Parker Jr, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Even though hockey is my main sport, I did cross country for the first 'trimester' of sports, and my dad has this huge bookshelf of sports books, so he gave me the best one about running he had after I did well in a race and was enjoying the sport. I'm not too far into it, but it's definitely one of the more adult-oriented books I've ever read, so I find just picking up on some of the linguistics is fascinating. It's also a real neat perspective, I highly recommend it so far.

2 years ago the league had every VHLM teams full, there was tons of first gens and both the forum and discord had so much life. It was the S75 draft class knocking at the VHL's door. How did it turn out in the end? In this short article I will be taking a look at some of the notable S75 first gens in their draft order and where they are now.

    7th: Cabe McJake @redsus
This one is an interesting one, McJake used to be a pretty good and consistant TPE earner and was leading the S75 draft class in TPE at some point. Other than his ban later in his career I think McJake killed his career by taking a greedy 6M$ salary.

    8th: Addison McLaren: @tcookie
Back in S74, McLaren and Mcjake were absolutely killing it in the VHLM, one season later McLaren was earning a Founders cup in Philadelphia. For a good part of his career he was seen as one of the top first gens of S75 but slowed down on activity later.

    11th: Scotty Kaberle @fromtheinside
This is a well known member by now, FTI has been AGM of Yukon, New York and now Chicago. He ended up winning a Continental cup with the Malmo Nighthawks and a founders cup with the Yukon Rush as an AGM. On his second player he managed to get the picked 1st overall and he is now BOG.

    20th: Cowboy Prout @Prout
This is a guy I thought would stay around. He was pretty active but is now gone. I wouldn't be surpised to see him back at some point.

    24th: Robert Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito
Our first steal of this article. I had the opportunity to play my whole career with him on my first player and what a great guy and also a reliable and loyal player. He used to be my AGM back in Yukon and he is now AGM for the Wolves and I'm sure he is doing a great job there.

    26th: Justin Lose @youloser1337
An other big steal of this draft. Lose been climbing the TPE leaderboard for his whole career to end up at the 2nd place. Not only that but also been such a dominant player during S81, walking home with 4 awards in 1 single season. He also been GM of the Mexico City Kings for quite a while as well as being our TPE santa claus with the fantasy zone.

    27th: Linus Zetterstrom @Ledge
At some point Ledge was one of the most active first gen of this draft class and has been GM of Miami for a few seasons but things have slowed down on his side. Hopefully he can come back to his former activity at some point.

    36th: Thadius Sales: @thadthrasher
    Eww

Alright, I got enough words for sure, I'm sure I forgot about a lot of people but no offense, this draft class was huge and I don't wanna write all night for a VHL.com article. I also intentionally skipped my own player.

Ledge reacted to Spartan in New VHLM Waiver System
For the second time today, hello!

We were very excited to welcome two new VHLM GMs today and felt that we should keep the party going with a second announcement. Last season, @Gustav  and I made two significant changes to the workings of the VHLM - increasing VHLM GM pay from 2 TPE to 4 TPE, and changing up the draft pick holding rules to prevent unhealthy asset management in a league oriented towards development and retention. We promised to increase the quality of the VHLM GM experience, but last season felt more like we were restricting our GMs as to what they could and couldn't do.

Today, we'd like to announce our largest change yet - a completely revamped waiver process and system that is now fully run through the portal. That's right! VHLM GMs no longer have to post offers into waiver threads or constantly lurk the forums in order to secure a new player. This system also puts the decision-making process into the hands of the newly created player with a simple yet informative UI thanks to the work of @Dil. Here's what new creates will see immediately after creating their player:

(Data and teams are from S80 for testing and demonstration purposes)

We chose elements for this page based on what we felt were the most important aspects of a team that influence a player's decision. All the teams will be sorted by standings, and the # of players per team is also visible. This should allow users to have a better understanding of the situation they're walking into. Using the screenshot above, a new center would see that some of the top teams could use a third line center, but Las Vegas is the best team that can offer them a top 6 role. We hope that this new UI will give enough information to new creates without overwhelming them in a sea of data points.

To add a bit more of a personal touch from the GM along with more information on a potential player's fit on the team, we've given VHLM GMs the ability to write (and update via Team Management) a pitch and projected position that new creates can choose to read when picking between teams:

(Sample text for what a new user would see)

Once a new create chooses a team, they will be redirected into a forum DM created between the new create, the team GM and the team AGM if the team has one. This will alert the team's management that a new create would like to join the team so that they can begin interacting with the new user, invite them to the team LR and get them signed to a contract. The automated DM will also include helpful links to forum content such as the TPE Guide and the Updated Build Guide. As many have mentioned before, new creates sometimes simply never venture into the forum or feel like the forum is too difficult to navigate in terms of finding relevant and helpful content. This new process both redirects new users to the forum and presents them with resources to begin their VHL journey on the right path.

Finally, this system can be modified at the discretion of the VHLM Commissioners. Based on the league population and positional data, we can change what we consider to be "full" teams, and increase/decrease the threshold for a team's position to display as favorable or unfavorable. This system will also be deactivated from the start of the playoffs until the conclusion of the VHLM Draft. Any creates during playoffs or the offseason will need to be signed via written pitch in their new create thread, as was the common practice.

    ---

We're very excited to see this new system in action for S86 and hope that it improves the overall experience for new VHL users. Expect to see various VHLM rule changes being announced in the coming days as we transition the VHLM rulebook away from the old waiver system, and remove rules largely created to incentivize GMs making written pitches to new players. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or feedback!
