What’s up VHL! The World Juniors is officially finished, and each team has played their hearts out in pursuit of that coveted gold medal. It’s been a wild ride, and there were some crazy and unexpected outcomes during the tournament ! So here we go, onto the S76 WJHC Recap.

With a bang to start the tournament, Team Asia let their presence be known as they bested Canada in a 3-game sweep, and continued to ride their massive hype wave as they steamrolled through the opposition on the way to clinching the top seed. Team Europe, on the other hand, took their time as they started off sleepy and absorbed some tough losses. However, in their final few games, they turned it on to go 4-0 in their last 4 to jump up the standings. The defending champs Team World carried that winning attitude to start the tourney, going 4-1 to begin with but falling off a cliff in their closing matchups. Going into the WJC, Team USA’s squad looked worthy of a championship. Apparently, looks can be deceiving as they couldn’t string together wins and ended up falling short of .500 hockey. Finally, we have Team Canada, who, in contrast to the real life success of the team, usually falls short in the VHL. These Canadians never really found their footing, with a slow start, and although they picked up their game a little down the stretch, they still couldn’t manage to lift themselves from last place.
Onto the playoffs. In the qualifier, Canada bested USA in a rematch of the bronze medal game last season, where the outcome remained the same. The Canadians moved on to face Asia, who gave them a right spanking to send them back to the third place game. In the other semi final contest, Europe surprised everyone by gutting World in a sweet revenge game from some of the returning, silver-bearing Europeans. Finally, in the gold medal game, Europe continued their playoff sublimity by handing Asia an astounding loss to take home the hardware.

    Round Robin

    Team Asia
    GM: KaleebTheMighty
    Record: 9-0-1
    Place= 1st

Talk about a Cinderella story. Team Asia, who has finished last in every single WJC tournament since its inception, goes without losing a game in regulation to take the top seed in the round robin. A big part of it has been the dynamic duo of Javad Kamkar and Frank Funk Jr., who finished 1-2 in round robin scoring. With 19 and 18 points respectively, it’s fair to say that Asia has some serious firepower in their roster. Goaltender Trent Gibson, who had a fantastic season with Houston and continues to backstop Asia wonderfully, has been the backbone of the team.

    Team Europe
    GM: PatrikLaine
    Record: 5-4-1
    Place: 2nd

In recent seasons, Team Europe has been arguably the most successful team in the WJC. Two seasons ago, they captured gold, and last season, silver. While the giant rising from the rubble that is Team Asia cleaned up the competition for the most part, Europe still managed to do fairly well in their share of games. Unlike some of their competitors, Europe spread out the scoring pretty well. Gunnar Odinsson and 1st overall pick Paul Atreides led the way with 17 points apiece, and Duncan Idaho and defenceman Kristof Welch also chipped in with 16 points each. Aksu Maronen, returning for his second WJC tourney, also kept the Europeans in a lot of close games. With the hunger for yet another medal as their motivation, there isn’t much in the way of this squad.

    Team World
    GM: Bobo
    Record: 4-6-0
    Place: 3rd

While Team World didn’t have a lot of returnees from last season’s champions, they picked up some hot underagers. Reylynn Reinhart stunned the hockey world with her 5 goal game early in the tournament, and remained near the top of the scoring leaderboard for the entirety of her games. Fellow hotshot defenceman Zeedayno Chara also impressed with 18 points, same as Reinhart. One of the sole returnees for Team World, Lenny Sanderson showed his experience playing against his own age with 16 points as well. Barry Taffe also showed promise, posting a .905 save percentage and picking up a shutout. With back to back gold medals on the line, World will have to raise their game if they want to take home the championship.

    Team USA
    GM: Hex Universe
    Record: 4-5-1
    Place: 4th

While the Americans usually dominate the WJC in terms of trash talking and hyping, they find themselves coming up empty in the games itself in the past couple tournaments. They walked into the S77 tournament with some nasty firepower up front, but fell flat in the round robin. With a couple wins here and there, inconsistency sunk their ship. In addition to that, some of their superstars like Red Lite and Hex Rose had disappointing performances. But their depth carried out as Tee Pee E ll got 12 points and Carson Walkers pounded out 10 with 5 goals. Goaltender Michael Olson was their saving grace, putting up a .912 save percentage despite his team’s lackluster defense. However, the Americans can still hold on to the glimmer of hope that Lite and/or Rose steps up in the elimination games to carry them to victory.

    Team Canada
    GM: Domg5
    Record: 3-5-2
    Place: 5th

Sadly, the Canadians continued their trend of, well, sucking in the S77 round robin. They started off the tourney by losing 6 straight games, then had a string of decent luck near the end of their matchups. Phoenix Dawson and Kevin Wu both put up memorable showings, and goalie Tater Tot put up pretty darn good stats considering the circumstances. In the end, looking at last season’s WJC, Canada was down in the dumps before catching fire in the playoffs and securing a medal. Team Canada is down but not out. Not by a long shot.

    Playoffs

Now, it’s playoff time. The seeds have been seeded, and there’s no more safety blanket for any team. It’s do or die, and only the strong will survive.

    Quarter Finals
    Canada vs USA

With perennial quarter finalist Asia securing the first seed, Canada and USA are forced to battle it out for the privilege to play them in the semis. Both Canada and USA had underwhelming round robins, so this game is important to the credibility of each country.
A mere 2 minutes into the game, Jivere Zolnek of USA moved it to Breeze Ladrian , who rushed up the ice and feathered it to Walkers, who slapped it past ClapbombsRUs to put USA up 1-0. The rest of the period was relatively quiet, with Canada outshooting USA 14-12. Once again, only 4 minutes into the frame, USA stole the puck, had a passing bonanza involving 4 players, with John Callahan Jr. finishing it off with a booming clapper to give the Americans an insurance goal. At this point, it was looking gloomy for the boys from the North. But it was time for a good ol’ turning point. With Breeze Ladrian boxed for interference, Team Canada pressed relentlessly until Eddie Dams ‘broke the dam’ with a sneaky shot under the blocker of Olson.
In an almost identical situation 7 minutes later, with Ladrian once again in the box for interference, it was Victor Foles who got the puck past Olson to tie the game up.
Then, with less than a minute remaining in the period, Magnus Verlander ripped a shot right after a faceoff to give USA back the lead.
In the third period, history repeated itself yet again. Joseph Sharkton busted his butt, picked up a loose puck, and stuffed it home to tie it up yet again, 3-3. The rest of the period went, for the most part, quietly.
IT’S OOOOOOOOVERTIME! Canada vs USA in overtime! Right away, Canada exerted their presence with a barrage of shots, which Olson superbly turned away until a fateful moment about ten minutes into overtime. Kevin Wu started it all with a pass pick, which led to the Canadians once again unleashing a bombardment of shots on Olson, with Wu himself breaking the bank with a slick wrister that made a sweet ‘ding’ sound when it ricocheted against the post and in. Canada was moving on!

    Semi Finals
    Asia vs Canada
    Europe vs World

In the first game of the semi finals, the hottest team of the round robin takes on the underdog who squeaked into this game. Asia comes into this contest having not yet lost a game in regulation, and it would sure be a surprise to most if they dropped this one.
Early in the game, Asia has Canada pinned in their zone with their stellar offense. Jon Strider picked up a wild shot that went wide and tapped it in to make it 1-0. Two minutes later, Evgeni Shevkov increased the lead with a pinpoint snipe after a blocked shot. Then, in a span of less than a minute, Hulk Hogan Jr. and Brendan Telker each pot one as Canada catapults themselves back into the game. But it would prove to be futile as Asia would seize control of the play from then on.
In the middle of the second, after some back and forth, Strider once again dented the scoresheet with a quick wrister off the faceoff to make it 3-2 for Asia. With seconds left in the frame, Nathan Steele poked the puck through Tater Tot of Canada to give Asia an insurance goal.
In the third, Maksym Jankowski and Strider once again both added markers for Asia within two minutes of each other, completing the 6-2 routing of the Canadians. It was a marquee game for Asia, the first playoff game won by their WJC team. But immediately after the end of the game, they had to focus on their next target milestone: the gold medal.

In the second game of the semi finals, it is a rematch from last year’s gold medal game; Europe against World. There is a heated rivalry between these two teams, and tons of history. The tensions will run high.
Less than two minutes into the game, the dam is broken. Phil The Rock Johnson powers into the World zone with purpose, releasing a wicked snapshot that finds mesh over the glove of goaltender Taffe. That goal set the pace for the game. After pressure and constant shots from the Europeans, they struck again, with Atreides collecting a wily shot from Idaho and tucking it in the corner of the net. But Europe wasn’t done yet, oh no. With Chara serving time for roughing, that iconic trio of Atreides-Idaho-Odinsson doing their thing, with Idaho this time picking up an Odinsson slapshot that careened wide and roofing it beside Taffe. Three minutes later, Battre Sandstrom unleashed a rocket from the point that Taffe didn’t even see due to some picture perfect screening by Idaho. When the buzzer sounded to signal the end of the first period, it was 4-0 in favour of the Europeans.
250 seconds into the second period, Odinsson retrieved a dump in for a line change by World, rushed it the length of the ice, only to fire a snapshot off the crossbar. He hustled through 2 World players, grabbed the puck down onto his tape, and took a whack at it as he was felled. It flipped up and over Taffe and into the net. 5-0, Europe. The rest of the period continued in the tilted rink fashion as Europe outshot World 23-2.
Around twelve minutes into the third, after a sensational bunch of stops by Taffe, team
World finally yanked its head out of the ground as Jim Allen snuck the puck underneath the blocker of Maronen to make it 5-1. At this point in the game, there was nearly no hope left for World, and their fate was sealed when Robin Galante Nilsson batted the puck out of the air and into the net merely two minutes after Allen’s marker. Bobo’s squad became desperate as shot after shot were turned away by Maronen, blocked by an astute defenceman, or missing the cage entirely until Peter Louis ll ripped a slapshot through the mes in front of Maronen’s crease to finish off the game at a 6-2 peak. It was a glorious day for European fans and a horrendous one for global ones.

    Gold Medal Game
    Asia vs Europe

It all comes down to this, folks. The big kahuna. This is for all the marbles, especially the golden ones. It’s the gold medal game, and there is a lot on the line. Will Asia break yet another record in an absolutely historic WJC run? Or will Europe secure their spot as the winningest WJC team ever?
Aksu Maronen in net for Europe. Trent Gibson in net for Asia. Everything on the line. It’s go time! Shevkov wins the faceoff against Atreides, and the game has begun.
The play started halfway through the first. Tom Eagles picked up the puck in his own end, and rushed it up the ice only to have his wrister off the wing gloved by Gibson. But now Europe had Asia trapped in their own zone. It was time for the Europeans’ deadly top line to go to work. For forty seconds, Asia was barricaded inside its own end as Europe relentlessly pummeled Gibson with shots. He turned them all away magnificently until Gunnar Odinsson himself snagged the puck off the boards, crept into the slot, and fired a quick snapper between the legs of Trent Gibson. After that fateful moment in time, Europe seized control of the contest and refused to let go. They struck again before the period’s close when Duncan Idaho deflected an Odinsson shot that bounced around the posts before dribbling in. The shots were 20-3 in favour of Europe.
The second period was more of the same. Gibson was once again extremely busy in the crease, turning away shot after shot after shot. At 4:12 into the period, Odinsson etched his name another time on the scoresheet after collecting his own rebound and wrapping it around Gibson for the goal. After Asia tested Maronen for a brief time, Idaho was back at it with a beauty of a bar down slapshot. Following that, time does as time does, which is repeat itself. Guess who, once again, picked up his own rebound and deposited it behind Gibson? Gunnar Odinsson, of course, who completed the gold medal hat trick that would lock him in as tournament MVP. Following the goal, it was a long slog for both teams through the final part of the game. Logan Moore of Asia managed to beat Maronen early in the third, but it was clear from the start which team had come to play. Europe had won the gold medal.

As our preseason slowly winds down this week, we look back on the season that was and then turn our attention to what's coming in our near future. First and foremost, congratulations to the Mexico City Kings on winning their first ever Founder's Cup in team history. After assembling an incredible squad top to bottom, they were able to knock off mighty Houston Bulls in the finals. It was an exciting and high-offense final that saw the Kings come out ahead in six games. Mexico will be looking entirely different going into Season 77 as most of its players are graduating to the VHL. Additionally GM @Hylands was promoted to take over the Malmo Nighthawks, which his assistant GM @Juice was tasked with taking over the Yukon Rush. Replacing the management in Mexico City is none other than VHL legend @Advantage.With a member like Advantage at the helm, another title may not be far off.

The shake-up in Mexico was far from the only executive change this offseason, as the VHL and VHLM have gone over an unprecedented overhaul in the past few weeks. Just last week long time Las Vegas Aces general manager @Spartan was promoted to take over the Moscow Menace. Replacing him will be his old assistant @JigglyGumballs,  and his newly appointed assistant will be @Emi! Meanwhile over in South Beach, @Ricer13 was chosen to take the reigns for his old team in Calgary.  Replacing Ricer in Miami will be a returning @InstantRockstar, who brings in a ton of experience as well. There is still a vacant GM spot left in Vancouver, so the managerial musical chairs may still not be over yet. The community has been buzzing about these changes and time will tell how these new faces fair in their new places. In my opinion, while some of these people may surprise some people, I think all of them are fantastic choices and will do great in their new roles. Congratulations and best of luck to all of you. Now, let's get down to business. Coming off the heels of the S77 VHL Dispersal Draft this past Sunday, the VHLM landscape has once again shifted. Let's take a look at where the chips have fallen.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 1
Well after a season of mediocrity, the Marauders are back in a major way for Season 77. Ricer left his old club in great shape for this season. With a cavalcade of returning players who are going to have massive years, alongside some decent draft picks, Miami is primed to compete this year. The historic duo of @CptSquall Napoleon Bonaparte and @Shiny Alexander the Great will look to do some major damage up front, while first round pick @Bojovnik Jan Hlozek will be tasked with anchoring a respectable defensive core. Miami management also did a nice job adding some extra depth by signing free agent @Mashy Noah Mashford to help add some extra offensive punch. Meanwhile, between the pipes goaltender @ClapbombsRus returns for another season and looks poised to build upon a relatively successful Season 76. I think with the vast number of weapons the Marauders feature up front, combined with a steady defense and a good goalie puts them at the top of the Power Rankings for now. Though there are certainly a couple other teams who could be just as good, or even better!

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 2
The reigning champions of the Eastern Conference are looking to take another crack at greatness again in Season 77. The Minnesota Storm dominated in the regular season last year, but ultimately were stymied in the playoffs by the eventual Cup-winning Mexico City Kings.  While they may have lost some high end talent from last year's roster, they still pack quite a punch and  have re-loaded their roster nicely via the draft. Winger @Grapes-Tophat_Clan- Grapes will look to take on a larger role with the team this season as he will be promoted to the top line alongside fellow returnee @2hawk Calvin Hobbes. If that wasn't enough, they'll look to their second overall pick @Patrik Tallinder Nils Tallinder to anchor their second line which could be a potent top six come playoffs time. The Storm also feature arguably the best blueline in the league this season. Most of their blueliners are returning to the club from last year and many of them are highly developed already.  The top pair should consist of @VOID Stiles Markuss Puhovs and @LefLop Barron Kruulenstien, both of whom play  solid defense, while Puhovs could be an early favourite for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy with his strong two-way play. In net @Leafsfan328 Carter Bellamy returns, and this season the starting job is all his. If he can continue to grow and improve, the Storm could easily contend for a title this season.

In the three seasons I've done VHLM Power Rankings, I can safely say this is the highest I've ever seen the Mississauga Hounds place. Credit to @Zetterberg and @tcookie for turning around this franchise that was truly a hot mess for the past few seasons. The Hounds seemed to have went for the same model that the Season 76 Houston Bulls went for. They've been able to secure a nice group of returning players from last season, and they also loaded up in the draft with three picks in the top five, and six picks in the first two rounds overall. While this strategy is solid, and I do think their team is quite strong, it's unfortunate for them that the draft class of S77 is significantly weaker than the one of its predecessor from S76. Nonetheless, they still managed to scoop up some of the best players available heading into this season. The Hounds have incredible depth both on offense and defense from top to bottom. If their players commit to developing at a reasonable rate, this team could be downright scary come playoff time.  @Lspinelli Luke Spinelli returns for another season  between the pipes and should be one of the top keepers in the league this year.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 4
Coming in at 4th is the first team out of the Western Conference, which is noticeably the weaker of the two conferences this season. While their roster may not jump out at you with any powerhouse players, Las Vegas has stability which is more than most teams in the West can say for themselves.  Up front the Aces will really be relying on returning winger @Wolverine Darryl McDagg, who will be taking on a much bigger role than last season. Where the Aces really shine is their blueline, where they have a few really promising players to shut down the opposition. The veteran of the group is @I'll change this later New Player, who is back for his second stint in Vegas and looked to improve upon a 62 point performance last season. Alongside him will be flashy Fin @Devise Sven Reikkinen. Reikkinen is developing at a rapid pace and should be a top-end defender come playoff time. Manning the crease will be @Erik Morgan Karlsson, who is eager to step out from behind Aksu Maronen, and finally get his shot to be a starting goaltender in the VHLM. I think if Karlsson can rely on his steady defense in front of him and play  half-decent, the Aces could easily beat up on a weak Wastern Conference.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 5
Shifting focus back to the East, the Halifax 21st come in at the five spot. The 21st feature a  very robust roster with some high-end weapons on both ends of the ice. The top line of Halifax should feature the boisterous first-gen @assassin6898 Creed centering @MikkoKoskinensMistress Kikko Moskinen and @Tbeez99 Kyle Glass. These three could make a very formidable offensive threat and it should be fun to watch going forward to see how their do. Top draft pick @GlowyGoat should nicely compliment the second line to give Halifax some nice depth to their Top 6. After coming over via trade last season, @bluesfan55 Hadrian will be tasked with leading the defensive core for the 21st.  Hadrian's development since landing in Halifax last season has been solid and they could really be in store for a great season if they keep up their hard work. The only reason I don't have them higher up on the list is because they have a bit of a weakness in net. Rookie @Vkobe-v Leroy Johnson will be handed the reins and is still a raw and unproven talent in the VHLM. If Leroy maximizes his training and improves, Halifax could be in a great spot this season, but it won't be easy.

After a year of rebuilding, the Wild have flushed out the last of their old generation and ushered in the next batch of Sasky Bois to lead them to the promised land. While Saskatoon's roster isn't necessarily deep or stacked with elite talent, there's still a lot of positives to draw from. A couple of legendary recreates highlight the new roster. Up front, center @Seabass The Seabasstard will likely take the spot on the top line and could be the best faceoff guy in the league this year. Hopefully this will lead to more puck possession and in turn, more goals for the Wild.  On the defensive end, the Wild were able to snag @Kendrick Nixon Caldwell with the seventh overall pick in the Dispersal Draft this past Sunday. Caldwell will look to build on a very nice 51 point rookie performance he had with the Reapers last season. Also on defense, returning for his second year in Saskatoon is the belligerent and truculent @TXC Tanky. Tanky plays a physical, shutdown brand of hockey that will undoubtedly make the Wild a tough match night in and night out. Finally, in net Saskatoon is bringing back @BrutalBoost Andrew Bowman for what will likely be his last season in the VHLM. Bowman has grown steadily throughout his minors career and will look to have a dynamite season to propel the Wild back into the postseason this year.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 7
The Lynx are back in playoff range for Season 77 as they look to build off of a respectable campaign last year. Ottawa welcomes back its mega-star @Joshothegreat Josho who set the VHLM world on fire last season with 49 goals, 72 assists and 121 points.  Josho will need to be just as good as he was last season for Ottawa to be successful, as they don't have a ton of high-end options to compliment him up front. On the blueline the Lynx grabbed @PandaBearD25 Kirby Pandora in the second round of the VHLM Dispersal Draft, and will rely on her to hold down the blueline. The reason I have the Lynx in the top 8 though is thanks to their netminder @Barry Barry Taffe. Taffe comes into this season as one of the highest rated goalies in the VHLM and Ottawa will rely on him to steal some wins for them this season.  If Ottawa adds some pieces throughout the season, they could still be a solid team. I see them finishing close to the .500 mark, just like they did last year.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 8
Last season Marlins management were tasked with picking up the pieces following a Season 75 run that saw them go all in for a Founder's Cup and coming up short.  Season 76 was a long and hard road as the team was just trying to recruit players to fill out their roster most nights. This year, while they are still by no means a powerhouse quite yet, they at least have a roster full of promising young players. General Manager @thadthrasher has gained a great reputation early in his managing career for recruiting and developing young talent in this league. He has a plethora of players at the helm this season who can be molded and I am sure some of them will be quite good.  Left winger @Eldredman Aldwin Craig will return to the team to lead the offensive charge. On defense, Marlins prized first overall pick @LuluSalesAway The Loch Ness Monster will lead their fellow blueliners. In goal best boy @Jericho Anime Protagonist will be do his best to keep pucks outta the net. He might need a training arc or two in order to get his power level up to keep up with the firepower some teams in the VHLM have in store for him.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 9
For the first time I've ever done these Power Rankings, the Mexico City Kings find themselves on the outside looking in. This should come as no surprise as Mexico has been a highly competitive team for three seasons now. After finally winning the big one, most of their roster is off to the pros this season. Unfortunately for new GM @Advantage, there wasn't a whole lot left for him "in the cupboards" so to speak. The weakest point of the team is undoubtedly the offense, which only features one player over 100 TPE. While they only have  three defenders,  @Jakefufu Shaggy Tipton and @KingMortie Big Mortie are both serviceable options that the Kings can rely on. If they can add a couple more bodies to their blueline, they could probably get by fine. Rounding out things in net is returning goaltender @williamirc Johnathan Bustard. Bustard had a solid season last year for the Kings, but he will have a much harder task at hand this season and will have to play the best hockey of his life if Mexico City wants to sneak into a playoff spot in Season 77.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 10
Ironically one spot below Mexico City is the Houston Bulls at 10. Much like the Kings, the Bulls were all in on Season 76, but unfortunately they came up just short. Their team was loaded with max-TPE players and almost all of them have moved on to the pros this season. Three skaters return for the Season 77 though, most notably among them is winger @Senjo1706 Bradley Senjo who will enjoy a full season at the 250 cap. @TownBizness Kid Frost will also be returning and joining Senjo on the top line. These two could be a great 1-2 punch. On defense, while @RicoTheTrapGod Germano Henchoz will be steady, he is one of only two defenders on the roster, and that is mainly why I have the Bulls rated so low. If they can add some bodies to their defensive core they would be a lot better off, but unfortunately defensemen are few and far between in the VHLM these days and many teams are vying for their services. In goal Dutch keeper @enigmatic Aike van Giersbergen will get his chance to be a starter after serving as a backup last season for Philadelphia.

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 11
The last two teams on the list are kind of odd choices as they do have some solid skaters, but the main reason  both teams find themselves on the bottom of the list is because as of the time of writing this article, neither have a goaltender for the start of the season. The Reapers are now two seasons removed from winning the Founder's Cup in Season 75, and while they have some decent pieces, they are still not quite back to the form they once were. @glass Kjell Nilsson will be back for more season, and the Reapers will need all 140 points of his production from last season and then some if they want to be playoff-bound. The Reapers have a few respectable d-men, highlighted by @Sportsboy57 who continues to develop nicely as he enters his third season with Philadelphia. Sadly, despite the handful of quality players on the team, none of it will matter if their is a Bot goaltender in net come the start of the season. As we seen last year with Saskatoon, teams will feast on this deficiency and it will get ugly fast. So here's to hoping @DMaximus can find a solution between now and next week!

    Prev: N/A  |  Current: 12
Just like the Reapers, Yukon is goalie-less going into the start of their S77 campaign. Coming off the heals of a respectable regular season and subsequent semi-final sweep at the hands of the Houston Bulls, the Rush are in rebuild mode and focusing on having a strong Season 78. As previously mentioned, having no goalie puts them at the bottom of the barrel for the Power Rankings, but what makes them worse than Philadelphia is that they only are icing two defensemen to start their season. If they could find a half-decent goalie and a couple of defenders the team could actually be pretty decent with the likes of @Jake Sumner The Great and @Pythonic Gaspar Zakrevsky coming back for one more season with the team. Until they find a netminder though, its gonna be bad times ahead for Yukon.

That wraps up the first installment of the Power Rankings for Season 77. The balance of power has definitely shifted dramatically this season and I think it is pretty wide open. There are some strong teams for sure, but there aren't any clear cut favourites as of yet. Multiple teams could do well if their players commit to improving over the course of the season so it should be fun to monitor each team over the course of the year. Thanks for reading and until next time, cheers!

Review: I remember my first draft, I didn’t know much about the league and wasn’t nearly as invested, but was excited when I logged on! In a league that only requires 16 starters, going in the top of the third is a great feat for a first Gen goalie, don’t be discouraged or worry where you fall, putting in the work will get the results you want. Good review

Most of you have had this experience. Your first season is usually over and now you are excited which team will draft you.  At first comes one interview, then second, third and sometimes more. I think, I´ve answered to four interviews. You did your best in responses and then you can enjoy every moment, every second with which is draft nearer and nearer. And it is finally here!  Probably you have seen the draft to some huge and famous league. If yes, you can imagine that entire atmosphere. Big hall with podium at the beginning and with many tables for GMs and chairs for players and their relatives. You can imagine how it could be with you on their place. Because you are there! You are sitting on the chair and watching twitch with draft stream! The last year, when the draft was heled virtually because of pandemic the atmosphere has been similar. In my case, it was little bit differenced. However, as I´ve said only little bit. As you maybe know, I am from Slovakia and I was in my home country, while draft.  If I could be on the draft at the time, I would have to get up at 3:000 AM. At first, I wanted to get up and watch it, but after quickly consultation with my organism, I stayed at the bed and looked at the results in the morning. But it couldn’t stop me to be happy about all of this! They have drafted you to the VHL! Your game dream became a reality! What is more? I have sprinted to the living room. I opened it and scrolled the site down. First round has been without my name, second the same. The third… yeah I am there 34th overall by LA stars. It is here, the VHL future goalie legend has been drafted to the league, as well.

However, go back to the draft feeling. To be sincere, I was little bit disappointed with the result. The prognoses has told about late second round for my player. But I´ve been selected by LA in the third! Ok, the team is great. There is no reason to do not like the teammates and managers there, but the third round was not success for me, when according charts I could be higher.

And the second and shorter part of the text is my note to everyone, who is going to be drafted this year. Because the charts are one thing, the kind of player that is needed in concretely team second one, the interviews third and selection the fourth. Do not be disappointed if you will be lower than expected. Be happy, that you are part of the great community, enjoy every moment of the draft, if you are not going to retire sooner than it is need, you will be able to be in the draft after 8 seasons and that is too long time. I was been drafted lower, but does it matter? Nope! You could win the cup with each team, you could meet the best teammates in each team and in the worst case, you can be traded. So good luck to everyone who is in draft age!

    3. Haha, that is funny question. I have never thought about it. Maybe Arizona, It isn't very popular team for fans, so maybe Coyotes.

    About Josho
Josho was drafted 6th round by the Ottawa Lynx and it still only 15 games into his first season in the VHLM but has made a big impact for his team so far scoring 23 points in 15 games. He is well on pace to score over a point per game. Josho is looking to lead the Lynx to the playoffs and hopefully make a deep run. He is ranked to go in the top 20 of the upcoming VHL draft and could easily make the jump directly to the VHL but is more likely that he plays another full season in the VHLM after this season. The rest of the season will really prove to everyone if he is ready to make the jump to the VHL, only time will tell.

    Strengths
Scoring: Josho has the ability to score there is no doubt about that with 11 goals in 15 games so far he is well on pace to score over 30 goals. Josho is most effective on the powerplay where opposing teams cringe whenever he is on the powerplay against them because they know he is likely to score.

Passing: Everyone will talk about Josho's scoring ability but his passing is just as strong as his scoring. His ability to find his team mates is one of the best in the league and as a rookie there is no doubt that he can still get better and that is scary for any team playing against Josho.

Skating: Josho is for sure one of the fastest players in the league, he is able to blow by players in a few strides. Watching Josho use his feet to score and pass is really a treat for everyone watching, except if you are the other team.

    Weakness
Physical: Josho is not a big guy only 5'9 170 lbs sometimes you can see him struggle when he is up against bigger players, he also is not the best guy in the corners but he can always improve.

Faceoffs: Even though he is listed as a center he plays wing most of the time, in part to his ineffectiveness in the faceoff circle. His coach has him in practice taking more faceoffs and working hard to improve on them to hopefully get him back to the middle of the ice where he can really improve. With his speed and the ability to win most faceoffs Josho would be one of the most dangerous players in the league.

Josho has a real chance to be the best rookie in the VHLM this year. Josho also I think will be a dominant player in the VHL when drafted for years to come.

Most of players have som rituals before games. And most of them never tell to you, how it closer looks like. I don´t have any concretely ritual like specific music or something like that, but I have very strictly scheduled game day. If something does not go according plan, it would be see on my play. So this is how it looks like:

    Morning:
I can not sleep well before match, because every single game is a huge response for me as a goalie who makes a 60, maybe 70 percent of team success. This is why I always get up at 7 AM. At first, I go to the toilet to do morning hygiene. I am there plus/minus 15 minutes. After that follows breakfast time. I choose from one of three meals in my menu.  One and most favorites are scrambled eggs. The second option is porridge with honey and cinnamon. And the third one is yoghurt with honey or jam. When we have morning pre-game meeting I always go there. If not, I spent time on my swimming pool or with video games. Mainly sport games, but some medieval ones I play too.

    Launch Time:
I eat launch at 12:00. I have usually pasta with tomato or cheese sauce. I have not any meat with it. Soup depends on the second course. If I have the pasta with tomato sauce, the soup is from potatoes or from carrot or bothJ. If I have pasta with cheese, then is usually tomato soup.
    Afternoon:
After launch, I go to the walk around city. I am outside at least for 30 minutes, but max. for an hour. When I am back at home I read some books till the time when are three hours before match. Here I will stop for a few words, because the games aren’t always at the same time, so sometimes I haven’t time to read and in few cases, there is no time to go to the walk. When is this or similar situation I do this things in the morning. However, go back to the time, when I need to go to the stadium. I prepare myself and go to the locker room. There I check my sticks, jersey and welcome another guys. When all boys are there, we have together time before game.

    After Game:
When the game ends, next program is according teammates, but if we have not any together activities, I go at home and there I have a warm bath. After it I have a dinner. Now it is something with lots of meat. My favorites are burgers or steaks. After dinner follows bedtime, or if the game was played sooner as usually I watch some movies. I don’t have favorite ones, but I like detective films or good western.

So this is my game day summary. Thanks for reading. This has been my very first article, but I think my writing will be better and better with every single text. I hope that this was interesting reading for you. Have a nice day and good luck!

I'm super excited about this Ottawa team we have going so far. At first, I was tempted to write this year off. Losing our first round draft pick is tough, but we still had most of our other picks, and it's an excellent opportunity to build something great for the future! We've got @snackhero, a rock solid first line center. We've got @Blastmeaway on the wing. We've got @Barry holding it down in the net, and @Joshothegreat , @Rhenry707, @Lvhockeybest6, and @Aivarszz playing hungry and getting better every game! The one thing we need is some defense. If we can pick up a few defenders, Ottawa is going to be unreal!

We recently picked up our first win of the season against Miami. The locker room was electric! I'm so excited because everyone is here, ready to play, and supportive of each other. It's a new era in the Ottawan Empire! There’s a bright future ahead of us!

    My gameday
