  1. Sunday, August 13th Draft Day It's a monumental day for Sam, as it's her first draft for the Titans, in spite of rumors that she has drafted before for Helsinki. It has been an eventful off-season for Sam and Helsinki, and one thing has been made clear: she's not fucking around. The additions of Landon Wolanin, Mo Probert, and Lloyd Braun have bolstered a team that many around the league believed should have done far better than they actually fared. The advantage of that for Sam, of course, is that she also has the first overall pick as a direct result of that, meaning she can add a top prospect to her retooled roster. The VSN Scouting Department has projected Hungarian defenseman YaBoi Oven to Helsinki at first overall, a pick which makes perfect sense for Sam, regardless of whether or not he joins the team in Season 90. Oven is the most VHL-ready prospect in the draft, and scouts believe he already possesses pro-level abilities in defending, although his offensive capabilities are still quite raw. They have the cap space to make a bigger splash at defense, but Oven is certainly an option that would make sense and allow money to be used elsewhere. There is, however, one thing Sam absolutely cannot forget on Draft Day:
  2. Daniel Janser didn't just play for the Calgary Wranglers, Daniel Janser was the Calgary Wranglers during his tenure there. He is as much a legend for this team as Scott Boulet, Sterling Labatte, and Brett Slobodzian, and that's saying something. Cheers, my friend. You deserve this moment!!
  3. 1. I was surprised, as I thought VLG would be a piece to build around, but hard to argue with the return. Could potentially get two pieces for the future with this move. 2. Seattle, really? At least Calgary got a first, which is pretty good for a player about to retire. That's as much as you can expect. 3. I would have said AirRig GoodBrandSun, but he's already been moved! 4. Fradin McGryer has really strong potential to make a difference from the blue line, I think the VHL will know the name by season's end. 5. I've flown a couple times, no major issues at all, thankfully. The airport is usually more of an annoyance than the flight itself. 6. I don't think Calgary should be committed to a particular position, as it's the beginning of a rebuild. Find the right individual, with the most commitment and potential, and make them a building block.
  4. Love the vast representation from across Europe for this group!!

  7. Oven Focused On Improvement JUNIOR SHOWCASE TOURNAMENT - The VHLM season is over, the Ottawa Lynx have gone home, but YaBoi Oven has not. Instead, he continues to work on honing his game any way that he can, which currently happens to be the the Junior Showcase Tournament. Through 24 games with the Brigade, Oven has scored five goals and tallied 15 assists for 20 points, along with 45 hits and 23 shots blocked. It's not the domination he has sought, but it is continued progress towards his blossoming potential. On the eve of the Season 90 VHL Draft Lottery, his work continues. "I really felt like I should have been better in Ottawa," answered Oven following the Brigade's 2-0 victory over the Steel, in which he recorded an assist. "If you want to be a first overall pick, you need to be better than what I was. Be someone who can control the game, influence the outcome of any game, and that's just not what I was with the Lynx. Something about my game needs to change, and I'm hoping to find that here." Oven struggled to consistently generate offense in the VHLM with Ottawa, although he was able to establish himself as a weapon on the power play. So far at the JST, he has been more consistently involved with producing offensive output, but he has a different idea on having more success at the next level. "I feel like I need to improve my positioning," added Oven. "I believe that if I can better prepare myself to know where I need to be, and improve my skating ability to get there, then I can create more opportunities offensively and prevent more opportunities defensively. There is always a way to improve, and for me, this is the way."
  8. The Season 90 YaBoi Oven Draft Lottery With the HC Davos Dynamo crowned as the champions of the Victory Hockey League, hoisting the Continental Cup for the first time since Season 61, the focus now shifts to the Season 90 off-season. With the draft lottery imminent, the team that will win the right to draft the highly-touted Hungarian defenseman YaBoi Oven will soon be revealed. A massive lead in TPE seemingly since creation has led many analysts to a widespread belief that he will be the first overall selection. Assuming that he is the first overall pick regardless of which team wins the lottery, let's delve into the teams in the draft lottery, and see what Oven’s future could be like for each of them. Helsinki Titans After another season of finishing dead-last in the VHL despite a talented core of forwards featuring Daryl Dixon and Rick Grimes, the Titans once again find themselves in great position to add another elite talent. This time, however, Helsinki is swirling with the winds of change, as General Manager Frank Funk recently announced his resignation, with no replacement named at the time of print. However, the new General Manager would be hard-pressed to find a better fit for the franchise than YaBoi Oven should they win the draft lottery. Outside of Season 87 first round pick Kronchy Kardashian, no long-term options at defenseman can be found on Helsinki's roster. Mo Probert and Bob Robb are both set to be unrestricted free agents, and even if they would re-sign, Season 90 would be their final season prior to retirement. It's also a strong possibility that Oven would be immediately called up to the Titans and bypass the VHLE due to their current situation at defense, providing immediate cap relief from signing a veteran defender. If the Titans' top odds pay off on lottery night, Helsinki could wind up with an ideal player, and YaBoi Oven would have an opportunity to be an immediate contributor to a franchise looking to emerge from the bottom of the league. Toronto Legion Despite finishing at the bottom of the North American Conference, the Toronto Legion are a team brimming with potential. Goaltender Joel Castle is a tremendous talent, and they have drafted top talents at forward in Mac Atlas and Jimi Jaks at forward, and blue liner Bobby Bob as well. Adding YaBoi Oven to that core would make the rich even richer, and give the Legion an even brighter future. Toronto's blue line is all returning in Season 90, with Bobby Bob due for a contract extension as well. Unless General Manager Moon prefers to have four defenseman, there would be no rush for Oven to be called up for Season 90, although it would certainly help Toronto take that next step towards competitiveness, which they seem absolutely primed for. The Legion are overall a quality destination for YaBoi Oven, and one with some flexibility for Season 90 as well. D.C. Dragons If there is one thing that has personified General Manager John Frostbeard's approach with the D.C. Dragons, it has been his commitment to defense. Mark Calaway and Eric Queefson are both elite level talents added in the past two drafts, and Ben Laas is joining the pro roster as well. The Dragons certainly have more pressing needs than YaBoi Oven, especially with longtime goaltender Bubbles Utonium entering their final season before retirement. My money would say that Frostbeard would be more than happy to get the second or third pick in order to grab top goaltender prospect Ryan Artyomov as the next franchise goaltender for the Dragons. Even Axle Gunner would make more sense for D.C. here, as they have an aging group of forwards and could use an elite talent to bolster the ranks there. If the Dragons would receive the top pick, Frostbeard would ideally try to move the pick to a team that is looking to select Oven, and get as much as possible in return while still being in position to draft Artyomov. If a trade can't be worked out, they'll simply select Artyomov instead. Chicago Phoenix The life of a phoenix goes in cycles, and the Chicago Phoenix are at the end of their current life cycle, so to speak. Outside of blue liner Liv Slater, there isn't an entire player on the roster younger than the S84 draft class. Worse yet, Chicago's prospect pool is as barren as can be. With General Manager Geoffrey Dee retiring, whoever the new GM will be for the Phoenix will have their hands full, especially considering the entire active roster outside of Slater is slated (ha) to be unrestricted free agents. With Chicago poised to likely be the worst team in the VHL for at least two seasons, if not more, it's about as bleak as it gets for the Phoenix right now. However, if they luck out and win the draft lottery, YaBoi Oven would be a fantastic piece for their rebuild to begin with. Depending on the direction the new GM takes, he could be called up immediately and receive massive financial bonuses to speed up his development or could be left to develop in the VHLE for a season and be spared from the nightmare looming in Season 90. It's a dark road ahead for the Chicago Phoenix, but one that could be made a bit brighter with YaBoi Oven around. Warsaw Predators I just spent how many words talking about how doom and gloom it is in Chicago, but the Warsaw Predators are in pretty rough shape too. Their entire roster only has two forwards under contract, and that's it. Even if they bring all of their pending free agents back, there's still not much of a roster to speak of outside of defenseman Ryuji Sakamoto, and there really isn't a good reason for him to return. Unlike Chicago, however, Warsaw does have some prospects in their system, some of whom could factor into the future of the Predators. Also unlike the Phoenix, Warsaw's General Manager, Bob Tristan, has managed to accumulate draft picks for their rebuild, including two first round picks this season. With a barren roster, YaBoi Oven would naturally be a great building block for Warsaw, and it would be up in the air as to whether or not he'd come right up to the VHL. The Predators certainly have the space on the roster, where he could immediately play top minutes and receive a boosted salary, but it could be equally beneficial to just let Oven spend a season in the VHLE to develop. Warsaw's odds of winning the lottery aren't great, but their rebuild would receive a tremendous boost with YaBoi Oven if the balls fall in their favor. Malmo Nighthawks A season after selecting first overall in the Season 89 VHL Entry Draft, in which they selected center Viktor Jensen, the Malmo Nighthawks once again find themselves in the draft lottery. This time, however, they have the worst odds of winning the lottery by virtue of improving by eight points from last season. Of all the draft lottery teams, their roster is the most complete, and they should be right in the thick of things in the European Conference this season. Winning the draft lottery and being able to select YaBoi Oven would be a tremendous stroke of luck for Victor Grachev, giving the Nighthawks a stud defender that they wouldn't even necessarily need in Season 90 with their entire defensive corps under contract. Oven would be a fantastic insurance policy for Malmo, however, with Malum Maellard having a player option in Season 90. Malmo would be the best option for Oven to join a contending team as quickly as possible, but it is the least likely of all of the options to happen. With the draft lottery officially announced to be taking place tomorrow evening, the speculation over YaBoi Oven's destination will soon be coming to a close. But in the meantime, this article is only going to make him even better and more prepared for the future. Genius, right?
  9. Congratulations to the HC Davos Dynamo and @Ahma on breaking the curse!!

Love, a proud Davos alum :hcd:

    1. Ahma

      Ahma

thank you! i still cant believe it, it actually happened!

  10. 1. With a lot of aging players and the heart of the Wranglers, Daniel Janser, retiring, it makes sense for a re-tool of sorts now. There are still young pieces to build around, but it's about the ultimate goal in the end, and Rice knows what it takes to get there. 2. I really want to see Davos break the curse. It's time for the Dynamo to lift the cup again! 3. Without a doubt, and it should be a unanimous decision as well. 4. I feel like Fradin McGryer has potential to be an elite defenseman in the VHL, and is a huge building block for both Calgary and Merome Dilson to grow with. 5. Being stranded in the ocean for two weeks. Being in open water, with nothing but the unknown around you for two weeks... that's hell. If you survive a plane crash, the authorities will find you real fast. Being stuck in open water with no supplies, the elements beating down on you all day, and the darkness at night... the hell with that. 6. I love both, but being allergic to cats, it makes the decision easy.
  11. I'm in, and I have no preference to which app you use.
  12. Bang-up job, both to @ShawnGlade and @Subject056!! Stuff like this really gives the league extra depth to it!
  13. 1. All the way, baby. This one's for Janser!! 2. I feel like a re-tool is the best option. There's a talented young goalie in Dilson, a star in the making in VLG, and players entering their prime. The right moves can keep the party rolling even with Janser hanging up the skates. 3. Calgary from the NA, Davos from the EU. 4. Twitter accounts for VHL players, with a certain amount of posts to claim 2 TPE. 5. I have fished when I was younger, and I did catch fish! However, as an adult I have not gone fishing. Not really too thrilled about gutting my own catch. 6. Back in May, the reception was a murder mystery show as well! Very unique and certainly not one I'll forget.
  14. Claiming for week of 7/24 to 7/30 Claim 2/2
  15. @Zetterberg is Greenland's golden god of graphics. With the Victory Hockey League celebrating its 16th birthday this week and the 90th season on the horizon, it’s wild to think that a league like this that’s been around for this long can still be unique and fresh. There are many ways that it remains to do so, but this article will be covering a more specific topic: international representation in the VHL. Traditional powerhouses of ice hockey have been well-represented, with American and Canadian members understandably ensuring their nations have always been strong on the international level in the VHL. However, with this upcoming draft class in Season 90, there are some nations that have not traditionally had a strong presence in the VHL producing prospects, with some of them among the best of the class. We’re going to take a look at these nations that are finally about to get some love here in the VHL. Now Trending on VSN: Season 89 In Review | S89 VHLM ASG Skills Competition | Building A Contender: SEA/PRA/LON | Victory Lap Australia Prospect: D Walter Fitzroy Jr The Land Down Under is naturally not a traditional powerhouse in ice hockey, and for most of the VHL’s history, that was also the case. During the later half of the 60’s, however, Australia began to produce VHL talent worth shouting about from the top of Uluru. Australian members @Berocka and @dasboot arrived on the scene and began producing quality players that impacted the league. Berocka Sundqvist won four Continental Cups during his career and Latrell Mitchell crafted a well-deserved reputation as a strong defensive defenseman, winning the Jake Wylde Trophy in Season 76. However, A Red Guy, courtesy of @.sniffuM, was the first Australian player to win the Scotty Campbell Trophy as the VHL MVP, accomplished during his final season in S73. Today, Australia boasts three players with over 1,000 TPA in Daniel Weaver @ThePerfectNut, Lachlan Summers @kirbithan, and Callum Murray, and in Season 90 another Australian defenseman in Walter Fitzroy Jr. @Moon will be drafted. He has made his mark on three different VHLM teams, and despite being at the ripe age of 50, Fitzroy Jr should be a top selection in the upcoming draft. While they aren’t an Olympic presence yet, Australia is quickly proving to be a rising producer of quality VHL talent. Greenland Prospects: C Axle Gunner, C Severus Targaryen Before the 70s, there is no record of any players from Greenland on the VHL Portal, but the famous invasion of Season 77 to 79 quickly put Greenland on the map in the VHL. Lewis Dawson @Kendrick and Aleelee Kiak @Grant were the first in Season 70, and Grekkark Gyrfalcon @Sharkstrong in Season 73 became a fantastic goaltender that lifted the Continental Cup. However, it was the famed Season 77 group, featuring three 1,000+ TPE players in Zeedayno Chara @Jubis, along with the first two Reinharts: Asher @rjfryman and Reylynn @Ricer13. Three more Reinharts would follow in the next two seasons: Tobias @Spaz in Season 78, with Jerome @MexicanCow123 and Tyler @Zetterberg in Season 79. Despite the fact that they fielded enough players for their own team, Greenland never realized the dream of having their own squad compete in the VHL World Cup, and that was that… until the next generation arrived. Axle Gunner @Steve and Severus Targaryen @Banackock are both draft-eligible in Season 90, and they're only the tip of the iceberg, as even more players will be coming from Greenland in Season 91. Gunner has been one of the most dominant players in the VHLM this season with the Philadelphia Reapers, and Targaryen has been a point-per-game player in Houston, just a sample of what's to come from Greenland's next generation. For more on Greenland's latest hockey generation, be sure to check out @Will3's latest article, Greenland's Golden Generation! Hungary Prospect: D YaBoi Oven Hungary is a nation that has not had a strong presence in the VHL throughout the history of the league. In the Portal Era, only one Hungarian has ever eclipsed 1,000 TPE, and that is journeyman defenseman Kristof Welch @Juice, the Season 80 Alexander Valiq Trophy winner, who played for six teams during his career and amassed 656 career points. Hungary seemed like they had a superstar in Nagy Al @bigAL, but tragically he burnt out before his potential could be realized. Hunor Solyom @solyom, a third round pick by Helsinki in Season 83, became the first Hungarian to win a Continental Cup with the London United just last season. Hungary's latest chance at producing a superstar talent in the VHL is defenseman YaBoi Oven, who was selected first overall in the Season 89 VHLM Dispersal Draft and could very well be the top pick again in the Season 90 VHL Entry Draft as well. His potential hasn't translated to dominance in the VHLM, but will VHL GMs be able to pass on the raw potential? Malta Prospect: C Xiver Zilla While Australia, Greenland, and Hungary all have relatively short stories regarding their history in the VHL, it is encyclopedic compared to Malta's. There is no story for the 316 square mile archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea, which sounds like the absolute last place you would expect to find ice hockey cultivated. As it turns out, Xiver Zilla @jhatty8 was the first player from Malta to take the ice in a VHL-sanctioned game when he suited up for the San Diego Marlins against the Houston Bulls and skated his way into history. However, he was not the first player from Malta, with that distinction going to Joey Balgeno @ItsTearless, who never applied TPE or signed with a VHLM team before retiring. With that, it is now on Xiver Zilla to write the first chapter for Malta's foray into ice hockey, and if his tenure with the Houston Bulls is any indication, the VHL is about to bear witness to a Mediterranean Monster. Mongolia Prospect: G WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW As odd as it sounds, Mongolia actually has a chapter in VHL history, regardless of how absurd it may seem. Season 53 actually marked the beginning of not one Mongolian's career, but two. One was Conrad Jenkins @Kylrad, a winger turned defenseman who carved out a solid career with the Stockholm Vikings, and from seasons 56 to 59, moved to the Helsinki Titans and became teammates with the other Mongolian in the VHL. That teammate… VHL legend and Hall of Famer Franchise Cornerstone @boubabi. The longest-serving captain in VHL history, Cornerstone is one of the most successful and decorated players in the history of the league, scoring 384 goals and 855 points in his career, spent entirely with the Helsinki Titans. It's a lofty standard that seems nearly impossible to live up to, especially for a goaltender, but that is exactly what WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW is up against. He is the first Mongolian to join the ranks of the league since Franchise Cornerstone retired following Season 60, and he has just two appearances in VHLM games to his credit thus far. However, he is still a highly-ranked prospect at his position, and is on track to be the first Mongolian player to reach the VHL in 30 seasons. Portugal Prospect: RW Catia Goncalves Portugal is another nation whose story in the VHL is still in its infancy, yet has still managed to shine. The first player from Portugal recorded on the Portal turned out to be a great one in defenseman Roque Davis @Josh, the second overall pick in the Season 71 VHL Entry Draft. Playing for the HC Davos Dynamo, Moscow Menace, and the Los Angeles Stars, Davis was among the best blue liners of his era, winning the Alexander Valiq Trophy as the best offensive defenseman in the VHL twice, leading the league in assists in Season 76 with 86, and also won the coveted Sterling Labatte Trophy as the top defenseman in the VHL that season as well. He became the first Portuguese player to be inducted into the VHL Hall of Fame in Season 84, right around when Portugal’s next big talent was just warming up: Leandro Goncalves @leandrofg . The ninth overall pick in the Season 83 VHL Entry Draft has been the epitome of selflessness and consistency with the Calgary Wranglers, and he was a pivotal part of the team’s drought-breaking Continental Cup victory in Season 87, making him the first Portuguese player to do so. The Goncalves line is set to continue, as little sister Catia Goncalves @cLoWn is currently tearing up the VHLM with the Mississauga Hounds, showing that she is ready to carry the mantle herself. If the stars align, it’s very possible that Portugal’s favorite siblings can play together for Leandro’s final VHL season, which I am now going to cheer into existence. Saint Lucia Prospect: D Jebediah Big Ol Doinks in Amish For those of you who have never heard of Saint Lucia, myself included, it is a small island nation located in the East Carribeans, known for volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, tourism, and the Piton Mountains. Exactly the type of place you’d expect to develop elite VHL talent, right? Naturally, it’s no surprise that this is a nation that has no story in the VHL at all. Not a single player has ever come from this tiny, exotic locale, at least not until now. Somehow, in some way, a lad named Jebediah Big Ol Doinks in Amish is the first player to ever lace up the skates for Saint Lucia, despite sounding like he should be tending to cattle and raising barns in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania instead. How did this gloriously bearded farmer make it to Saint Lucia and end up playing ice hockey, of all things? I’m not going to pretend to have the faintest clue, because quite frankly, I don’t. Saint Lucia’s foray into the world of the VHL is off to a most peculiar start, however, and with Jebediah’s strong season with the Houston Bulls, it looks as if his story will continue into the ranks of the VHL. Ukraine Prospect: RW Maxim Ansimov, LW Jorji Costova Of all the nations on this list, Ukraine is the one that is traditionally a presence in the world of ice hockey, and that is no different in the VHL. The Portal has recorded Ukrainians in the VHL dating back to the 40s, and it’s very likely there were some in the VHL before this. A notable player of this time for Ukraine is defenseman Bobby Digital @gorlab, a two-time Continental Cup champion with the New York Americans, who also led the VHL in assists with 80 in Season 54 and won the Grimm Jonsson Trophy as the top leader in the VHL in Season 55. Ukraine’s most prolific player, however, is VHL Hall of Famer Jet Jaguar, who scored 256 goals and 645 points with the Moscow Menace, where he led the VHL in goals with 42 and won a Continental Cup in Season 70, and the HC Davos Dynamo. The defenseman pairing of L and R both hailed from Ukraine, as well as Kosmo Kramerev @Mongoose87. Faith Hope Love @MMFLEX of the Prague Phantoms is the only Ukrainian currently in the league, although the Toronto Legion have a future pro in Kobe Johnson @Vkobe-v in the VHLE with Geneva currently. The Season 90 Draft Class, however, has two prospects that have caught the eyes of VHL scouts: Maxim Ansimov @McLovin, a dynamic winger capable of racking up points, and Jorji Costova @Hybrid1486, another winger capable of lighting up the score sheet. Always seeming to keep a steady presence in the VHL, Ukraine has two exciting prospects that could put their program back into the international spotlight once again. What happens when the writer tries to make a graphic themselves. The Season 90 VHL Draft Class is loaded with players from less than conventional backgrounds, and it could lead to even more diverse representation from across the globe in the league. I would love to see some other nations become powerful enough to warrant their own team in international play in the VHL and add to the fun of those events. While I don’t expect to see Saint Lucia on that stage anytime soon, could Greenland do what they couldn’t a decade ago and rise to prominence? Will Australia become a rising power? Can the Goncalves trigger an ice hockey movement in Portugal? We won’t know until we meet future draft classes, and until then, all we can do is imagine what could happen and enjoy the stories that are playing out in front of us. After all, isn’t that why we’re all here?
  16. Fightin' Joe Flacco gestures for you to join him!
  17. 11.37 seconds isn't bad at all for a 6'8, 250 lb oaf at all!
  18. 1. It's a good season for sure, but sending Janser out on top as a winner would be the ultimate success. 2. Definitely, keep playing your game and you'll gain that ground! 3. Statistically, it's a bust for YaBoi. However, the VHLM doesn't define a player, and learning from this season could very well lead to success at the next level. 4. Quebec would need to get a team back if it was NA, and if it was the EU... Berlin. Bring VHL hockey back to the fatherland! 5. Milk is the fastest beverage on the planet. Wanna know how? 6. I love an immersive RPG, and I think Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was my absolute favorite of them.
