  1. 1. Are you excited for the draft? - I guess you can say I was counting down the days, yeah. I was working hard towards showing teams how ready I was to help bring them a championship. I'm very grateful that San Diego believed in me enough to take me in the first round, now I have a season to prove that they made the right call. 2. What is your game plan, going into this season? - I'm going to do everything I can to bring a Founder's Cup to San Diego, which means immediately working to improve weak areas of my game. I spent the off-season working on my passing, and I'm really pleased with how that went. Now my next project is working on my puck handling, with my goal to have that under control in time for the start of the season. 3. What attribute(s) are you going to try to make your player become better at this season? - As I mentioned, puck handling is my focus at the moment. Once that happens, it'll be time to start honing the skills I've already developed, like goal scoring and checking. 4. Is your player going to be better or worse this year? - I'm going to be better than ever. If IR is to be believed, I'm going to be part of a lethal top line that's going to take the VHLM by storm. I've put the work in to improve, now it's time for me to produce the results on the ice. 5. Are you excited to be back to playing soon? - I think that goes without saying. I've finally got my new home, met my new teammates... all that's left to do is go win with them! 6. What are going to work on the most, to help you improve, this season? - I was pretty unhappy about how I could benefit from chances my teammates in Halifax could create, but I couldn't set them up in return. I've worked really hard to improve my technique and awareness in those situations so that if I can't finish the play, I can set up a teammate to do so. Sometimes, it's not about scoring the goal yourself, but creating the opportunity for someone else, and I know I'll get plenty of opportunities to do both this season. FUN QUESTION: Who’s is your favorite hockey player? (Not Required) - My current favorite is Sean Couturier, before he became a stud offensively he was a guy who excelled at doing the little things. Great defensive player, penalty killer, won a lot of faceoffs, he could do it all except score. But now he's scored 30+ goals two years in a row, he's really become a do-it-all player for the Flyers. If we're talking all-time favorite, it's got to be Simon Gagne for me. Lethal sniper and he just always seemed to come through for Philly when it mattered the most. A lot of my best Flyers memories growing up involved Simon, I really miss watching him play.
  2. Landry Heading to San Diego VANCOUVER - Ever since the Halifax 21st's defeat at the hands of the eventual Founder's Cup champion Saskatoon Wild, Thomas Landry II had two options: go home and wait to find out what his future would be at the Season 70 VHLM Dispersal Draft, or continue to work hard and have a stake in his own fate. After a brief sabbatical to catch Pokémon in the wild, Landry got back to work, pushing himself to the absolute limits to show that he was ready to take the next step, to show what an impact player he was ready to become in his first full season in the VHLM. With one single sentence, all that hard work was validated. "With the ninth overall pick in the VHLM Dispersal Draft, the San Diego Marlins select left wing Thomas Landry II, United States." With their third pick in the first round, San Diego's management decided that they had seen enough from Landry's determined efforts that he had made the leap to being worthy of a first round selection, a feat also achieved by his father in the Season 33 VHLM Dispersal Draft when he was selected seventh by Bratislava. Joining Kyl Oferson and Roque Davis, San Diego's three first round selections look to make a big impact in the VHLM as they prepare themselves for the VHL. "I'm thrilled to see my hard work recognized," said Landry in an interview conducted after he was drafted. "But this is only the beginning. San Diego put their faith in me by drafting me here and now it's up to me to show them that they were correct to do so, along with showing the other teams what they missed out on. I moved my way up the VHLM draft boards… now there's one more draft board that I have to climb, and lucky me, I have an entire year to work on it. I'm ready to give San Diego my all this season, you can count on that." Jethro Novacek has been a writer at the MSFL Times since Jesus went to carpentry school. 3. Great pick, Toronto got a keeper for sure.
  4. Trade Details Seattle Bears Receive: S70 DCD 1st S71 DCD 2nd S72 DCD 3rd D.C. Dragons Receive: RW John Frostbeard Analysis The re-tooling of the Seattle Bears continues with this trade, and it's one that is sure to leave many Seattle fans conflicted. Although he was drafted by Calgary, Seattle has been the home of John Frostbeard, with all three of his professional seasons in the VHL spent with the Bears. But after winning back-to-back Continental Cups, the financial strain of the salary cap has led to several difficult decisions for General Manager Ambrose Stark, perhaps none more so than dealing away Frostbeard. But while he himself described it as the hardest trade as he's ever made in his 21 seasons in Seattle, it's not all bad news for Stark. The crown jewel in the package of picks received is, of course, the third overall pick in tonight's VHL Entry Draft. Projections have them selecting defenseman Odin Omdahl, which would give Seattle an impressive of young blueliners. If Seasons 71 and 72 produce deep draft classes, they could eke even more value out of the deal. George Washington, all-around legendary American and General Manager of the D.C. Dragons adds a big piece in John Frostbeard. A well-respected individual on and off the ice, he immediately adds a winning presence and attitude to the locker room. The Dragons feature a lot of young players coming into their own, so adding a player like Frostbeard is a huge boost for their championship hopes. I initially believed the Dragons would take goaltender Jacques Lafontaine with the third overall pick to eventually replace the declining Pekka Pouta, but Washington has instead opted for the star power and immediate production of Frostbeard. Clearly, he has other ideas to fill the Dragons' biggest hole. Get-to-Know the Players John Frostbeard Drafted 12th overall by the Calgary Wranglers in Season 66, John Frostbeard was also the first overall pick of the Philadelphia Reapers of the VHLM in the same season. While he rewarded Philadelphia's selection of him with a Founder's Cup victory, he never took the ice for Calgary, being traded to the Seattle Bears before reaching the VHL. As a rookie, he quickly established himself as important piece of both the new-look Bears and the VHL as a whole. While the Bears didn't reach the playoffs, he reached 23 goals and 33 assists for a respectable 56 points and was +3 on the season. Seattle's fortunes changed in Season 68, as behind Frostbeard's 37 goals, they not only reached the playoffs but won the Continental Cup. In Season 69 (nice), he again reached 30 goals, and again the Bears lifted the Continental Cup as VHL Champions. With dramatic re-tooling needed to keep Seattle's core together, Frostbeard became a cap casualty, moving to the D.C. Dragons where he arguably becomes the face of the franchise. Can he keep his winning ways alive in his new home? Mentioned Players: @FrostBeard, @zepheter, @SlapshotDragon
  5. It's draft day!!

  6. It is entirely possible, but there are more than enough draft picks to make sure anyone that has an active presence on the site is drafted.

  8. Trade Details Seattle Bears Receive: S70 MAL 2nd S71 MAL 2nd Malmo Nighthawks Receive RW Dan Wilinsky Analysis Despite winning their second straight Continental Cup in Season 69 (nice), the Seattle Bears enter Season 70 facing many difficult decisions. Their talented young core, featuring Acyd Burn, Joel Ylonen and John Frostbeard, to name a few, are beginning to enter the primes of their careers, and thus, will need to be paid accordingly. For Seattle General Manager Ambrose Stark, this meant saying goodbye to a key piece of their latest championship roster: right wing Dan Wilinsky, their prized free agency acquisition from last off-season. It's an ironic twist, for Wilinsky now heads to Malmo after spurning them for Seattle last season. Does he have enough left in the tank to ride into the sunset with a second straight Continental Cup to end his career? For Lucas Nygren, Malmo's General Manager, he manages to acquire Wilinsky without parting with their first round pick. This leaves them with two fourth round picks to round out their Season 70 draft, and additionally, they currently will not pick until the fourth round in Season 71 either. It might seem a steep price to pay, but the Nighthawks are gunning for the Cup in Season 70 and the addition of Wilinsky is a major boost for Malmo. For Seattle, parting with Wilinsky was difficult, but it sheds his salary in order to help keep the aforementioned young core together and in Bears sweaters. The second round picks will also be quite beneficial as trade pieces or simply to start adding secondary depth to the re-tooling Seattle roster. In my opinion, both teams get exactly what they need, but it could be a bitter pill for Malmo to swallow if they don't come away with the Cup this year. Get-to-Know the Players Dan Wilinsky Drafted 7th overall in the Season 63 VHL Entry Draft by the New York Americans, Dan Wilinsky wasted little time in making himself a centerpiece of the rebuild in the Big Apple. He quickly established himself as a lethal scoring threat, recording thirty goals in his rookie season: a total Wilinsky has surpassed every season of his career. In 503 career games, he has scored 231 goals and recorded 273 points, for a total of 504 points - good for a point per game average for his career. After four seasons in New York and two trips to the playoffs, Wilinsky found himself traded to the defending champion Helsinki Titans in Season 67. All he did was shatter his career bests with 33 goals and 53 assists for 86 points, a +17 rating, 230 hits and the Scott Boulet Trophy as the VHL's top two-way forward. Unfortunately, Wilinsky and the Titans were defeated by the Vancouver Wolves. After his second season in Helsinki, Wilinsky opted to become a free agent for the first time, signing with the Seattle Bears in Season 69 (nice). It was here where he finally became a Continental Cup champion, after a regular season in which he scored 39 goals and tallied 81 points. Now, in his final season, Wilinsky is with the Malmo Nighthawks as they aim to win their first Continental Cup and he seeks to retire as a champion. Does he have enough gas left in the tank to get it done one last time? Mentioned Players: @oilmandan
  9. With Season Over, Landry II Hunting Pokémon ALLENTOWN - With Thomas Landry II's locker in Halifax cleaned out, there was little else to do beyond returning home to Pennsylvania to see his family. Now, with the Saskatoon Wild having completed their dominant season by hoisting the Founder's Cup, the next item on the agenda is the Season 70 VHLM Dispersal Draft. However, at this point, that just means more waiting for Landry II. Fortunately, he has found a way to continue to pass time while he waits for the next big moment of his career: catching Pokémon. No, you're not reading this wrong. As part of a ragtag group of VHL-affiliated members, Thomas Landry II, who is set to be a VHLM draftee later this week, has been spending time in the VHL Discord Channel catching Pokémon that randomly appear in it. Although these creatures do not actually bother anyone and have been isolated into an entirely separate channel, that has not stopped this group, which contains Landry II, Kris Rice, Gustav Mattias, Jeff Downey and Renomitsu, along with the sage advice of a drunk bird, from capturing them. The absurdity of the situation includes goading the server, which they have lovingly dubbed, "Skynet," after the murderous AI from the Terminator film series, to spawn more of these Pokémon into the server for them to catch. There is seemingly no end in sight for these shenanigans. One can only hope that the upcoming drafts will create enough of a distraction to bring about an end to the madness. 14. What's Next For Landry II? HALIFAX - For the duration of his brief VHL career, Thomas Landry II has had virtually complete control of it. From getting to decide where to sign to how many practice hours he got, the young Season 71 prospect has been in the driver's seat so far. But with the Saskatoon Wild ending the Halifax 21st's season last night courtesy of their 7-3 series-clinching win in Game Five, that all has suddenly changed. "After I clean out my locker, my career is about to go in a very different direction," said Landry in the visiting locker room following the loss. "I go from being a member of the Halifax 21st to a draftee. I could end up anywhere in the VHLM now." For now, all Landry II can do is wait. The Founder's Cup Finals is not yet set, with the Mexico City Kings and the Mississauga Hounds still duking it out for the right to face Saskatoon. The completion of the VHLM season will set the stage for the Season 70 VHLM Dispersal Draft, one in which Landry will more than likely find a new home. Current draft projections have ranked him at 15th, an early second round pick if the draft were to follow said projections. Multiple VHLM, such as Ottawa, San Diego, Houston and Las Vegas possess multiple second round picks, making them likely destinations for Landry. Halifax, however, is not among them. "Halifax doesn't have their first or second round pick anymore," said Landry following the game. "However, this is a pretty deep class. As a projected second round pick, perhaps a return to Halifax isn't out of the question, but it does seem unlikely. I would prefer not to leave, but unfortunately, that's the business side of hockey. Halifax used their picks to set up trades that got us to this point. Unfortunately, we couldn't reward those moves with a championship. I'll get another chance next year, hopefully it can be here in Halifax, but I'm going to give it my all regardless of where I go in the draft." Additionally, Landry's hard work has his VHL Draft stock on the rise. After tying for the highest amount of practice hours with 59 in the most recent update, he is now ranked 9th in the Season 71 VHL Draft rankings. "I can't lie, that felt great," said Landry II with a smile on his face. "Hard work is the only thing that I have control over right now, so it felt fantastic to see that recognized. There are a lot of great prospects in that class, so for me to be sitting at 9th, it really validates all of the hard work I've put in to improve. Best yet, I still have another full season to build upon that. Being a first round pick is definitely a goal I have set for myself, so I'm going to keep up the max effort to make sure that happens." As his Season 69 (nice) campaign comes to a close, one thing is very clear for Thomas Landry II: his confidence is at an all-time high as he faces the uncertainty of his future. 15. Good season Halifax, no one expected us to come this far and it turned out to be one hell of a ride. Gonna miss every single one of you next season! GG Saskatoon... go get that Cup!
  16. League history sounds right up my alley.
  17. 1. If your team is still in the playoffs... how do you feel about your performance so far? - In ten games, I've got four goals and two assists for six points. I'm contributing without the puck as well, with 26 hits. I feel like my production isn't consistent enough yet, but at the same time I am happy that I am helping Halifax rather than holding them back. 3. What is the most important thing you want to achieve in your career? - The most important goal is to lift the Continental Cup, no doubt in my mind. Individual accolades are nice, but they're empty and hollow when not accompanied by the Cup. 4. What do you think is the biggest focus you need to work on in the offseason? - It's become very clear to me that I need to become a better passer. I can finish off on chances my teammates create, but I'm struggling to create those same opportunities for them. That has to change if I'm going to truly be a great player in any league. 5. What if anything would you change about your locker-room experience? - It had stretches where it was quiet, but I was pretty happy overall with Halifax and I believe I chose to right team to join the VHLM with. It's bittersweet knowing that when our season ends, I will have to leave to enter the VHLM Draft and that my chances of returning are quite slim. 6. What team mate helped you the most this season? - Jaxx Hextall was for sure the biggest inspiration for me this season. As one of the vocal voices in our locker room, he was a visible presence both on and off the ice. He brought his best for the biggest moments and without him, we're not in the position we are today. He's going to make a VHL franchise very happy sometime soon. 7. What do you want to help newer people with in the future? - The VHLM Newsletter was the perfect way for a newcomer to ease into the league. Very streamlined and it details every way a player can improve. If team leadership gives assistance like I got from Halifax, then prospects are in great hands with those two assets.
  18. I might be the only one that openly advertises that anymore. ?
  19. 1) Welcome back! Do you remember me and Flyersfan? - Of course I do, and I was glad to see you both still here! 2) Have you acclimated to all of the new changes to the VHL? - I am sure there's stuff I'm missing, but I feel I've picked it up pretty well. It's almost like a brand new experience all over again. 3) What are your thoughts on the VHL portal? - I absolutely love it, complete game-changer. 4) How bout dem Cowboys! Eagles NFC East champs with potatoes at receiver get rekt - Thank God, maybe now Garrett can finally get fired. Facebook Memories reminded me that I was calling for this six years ago! 5) What was the reason for your long hiatus from the league? - Life, and the misguided notion that I couldn't be here without giving 100%. Granted, I've gone kinda nuts with TPE since I got back, but I know I can roll on with a week or two of welfare if I get writer's block. Then again, my massive articles can now fetch me multiple weeks of claims, so I might be in good shape now. 6) What are your thoughts on this @Beaviss fellow? - He seems pretty cool, I've read about all the work he did to keep this place going. I haven't really gotten to talk to him, but he strikes me as a guy I would have no issues getting along with. 7) Were you aware that @boubabi is unbanned? Higgins went on a big campaign to get him unbanned, and now boubabi hardly ever posts - I wasn't even aware he was banned, tbh. I just remember him as a teammate on some great teams and as a graphics god. Why was he banned? 8. Who is your favorite new expansion team? - You probably want a VHL team, but for me it's the Philadelphia Reapers. LOVE that there's now a Philly team! 9) Will Jason Garrett be fired and do you want him to be fired? - Technically he can't be fired, his contract is up. But for the love of God this needs to be the end of his time here. As I said earlier, I've wanted him gone for more than six years. 10) Did you hear we got into a controversy with the SBA? - I did, but I have no idea what happened. Really can't say I care either TBH.
  20. Halifax Reaches Semi-Finals Behind Hextall's Shutout HALIFAX - The final horn sounded, Jaxx Hextall pumped his glove hand into the air and leapt for joy. As equipment flew into the air throughout the ice and from the Halifax bench, the sellout crowd roared in delight, their hometown 21st having defeated the Philadelphia Reapers 1-0 courtesy of Anton Edvin's goal and Hextall's shutout. The rest of the team poured over the bench in jubilation, with their victory in Game Six clinching the series victory 4-2 and punching their ticket to the Semi-Finals against the Saskatoon Wild. "I'm struggling to find the words," said an elated Hextall following the game. "We always believed in ourselves, in each other. But to have done it, to move on... it's still an absolutely euphoric feeling." On a night in which Ben Storm and the Halifax offense couldn't generate the offensive production that got them this far, Jaxx Hextall proved to be the pivotal weapon for the 21st. Outshot by Philadelphia 24-21, Hextall responded by stopping all 24 shots he faced. His counterpart, Isak Sjostrom, was also nearly perfect, but an Anton Edvin shot eluded him, the only goal of the game. Halifax now travels to Saskatoon to face the Wild in the Semi-Finals, who were far and away the best team in the regular season. Only suffering four losses all season, Saskatoon made quick work of the Yukon Rush with a first round sweep. If they hope to hand the Wild four more losses to advance to the Founder's Cup Finals, the 21st will need to be at their absolute best in this series. 21. To Philly, congratulations on a great season and series! Very evenly matched and this almost went to seven. Good luck to those moving on to the next stage of their careers! 21st, we did it!! We never gave up and as a result, our season continues! Jaxx Hextall is a bloody legend! Let's stay focused and get ready for the next step!!
