Hello @Members!

It's the week we've all been waiting for. It's THEME WEEK  time!!

First off, that means that the Trade Deadline is Monday, August 23 at 3pm EDT. Get your trade requests in now, bottom-feeders. This also means that anyone wishing to re-create for the S81 draft can do so starting at midnight that same day.

**

This year's theme takes its inspiration from the other  fan-favourite time of the VHL calendar. Nothing we do generates more discussion, buzz, and crowd participation as the annual

Spoiler

VHL AWARDS

To earn your Theme Week TPE, write an article, talk a podcast, or art up a graphic about anything to do with VHL Awards. Maybe you write the story behind the name of a trophy, or profile the greatest MVP season ever. Maybe you do an in-depth quantitative analysis to develop a new methodology to measure defensive awards, or campaign for someone to win a specific award in the current season. Will you make a championship banner for an award winner, or create an infographic for your favourite Hall of Famer highlighting their individual achievements?

Don't forget to use the portal's Hall of Fame page for easy access to the VHL/M Awards. Make sure to both use the proper award name and the proper spelling (looking at you, fans of Rookie of the Year awards).

**

In order to claim the theme week bonus of 6 Uncapped TPE, simply submit your Themed PT (Graphic, Media Spot or 6-TPE Podcast), and claim it as normal. After claiming the PT portion, you can use the same link, and claim the uncapped portion as follows: Claim Uncapped > Other > Doubles Week. (Note: you do not need to post your link in this thread to claim either portion of TPE)

Feel free to post your theme week work in this thread so we can collect all the awesome awards-related content in one spot.

If you have already submitted a Point Task for this week, or are in the midst of claiming a multi-week Media Spot/Podcast, you may still submit a Theme Week PT this week, and claim the capped portion on the next available week, following your multi-week claim.

Also, if you have a single job that pays 6+, you may claim the theme week bonus as long as you complete your duties for the week. If you are in the EFL or SBA and have completed their most recent Media Week, you may use that to claim the Uncapped theme week bonus, but a PT must be completed this week in order to claim the Capped portion, whether that is completed here or through Affiliate Welfare.

Note: Only players who are S80 or older may claim the theme week bonus.

VHL Awards : Theme Week

I think I may have delivered a suggestion about revitalizing the Mikka Virkkunen Trophy some time in the past.  Originally, I found it odd that there wasn’t a Lady Byng Trophy or it’s VHL equivalent.  But, on looking a bit harder, I found The Mikka Virkkunen which had been retired after Season 58.  I could not determine why this happened.  Perhaps some of our more senior members would be able to shed some light on this.  My thinking, though, was that it was too hard to define the criteria for winning the trophy.  There wasn’t an easy quantitative measure as there is with the Kevin Brooks Trophy, for example.  From what I can gather from the Virkkunen winners, it seems that the criteria were very few penalty minutes, few hits and yet a point producer.  Well, OK.  But doesn’t that sort of sound like the Pansy Trophy, or as I suggested before, maybe the Madonna Trophy.  I , for one, am not so sure that I would want/like to be the Madonna of the league though.

So, if this trophy, or another iteration of it, were to be rejuvenated my suggestion would be that the GM, AGM or designate would select one player from each of their respective rosters and submit that name to a trophy selection committee to decide on the eventual winner.  The criteria would have to be varied.  The player selected must have a meaningful point contribution, have a relatively low number of penalty minutes and, yet, have a significant number of hits.  That means that the player is aggressive and, yet, his hits are generally clean.   To give you an example of such a player, let’s take a look at the top 10 players (points) from the Riga Reign for Season 78.

In my model, Justin Lose would be the nominee for the Riga Reign.  He has 82 points, only 17 minutes in penalties and still managed 67 hits.  My player, Isau DaMoose, although very close in terms of point production would not be considered because of his goon-like tactics with 266 hits and 111 minutes spent in the box (contemplating his sins, no doubt !).

In addition, there also should be some kind of recommendation by whoever submits the players name which would indicate the players activity level and contributions to the team in ways that cannot be quantitatively measured.  With this dimension, I think, one would get an overall feeling for a player that is the most sportsmanlike both on the stats sheet and in the locker room.

Now, I realize that determining a winner for this award would be very difficult and open to controversy due to its subjective nature and how well the player is written up for the panel to judge, but, in my opinion, it would be a worthwhile effort and give some recognition to those builds that are truly team and league oriented.

Thanks for reading my wee suggestion.  As always, one hopes that these things are taken, at least partially, seriously, and if not, hopefully it will provoke a bit of thought.

Please post your MS as an actual MS, not in this topic. You don’t need any kind of post in here to claim, just an MS that’s on topic and the updaters will handle it.

OK, sorry about that.  I will repost it next week as I am in the middle of a multi-week.  Thanks.

Per the OP:

Quote

If you have already submitted a Point Taskfor this week, or are in the midst of claiming a multi-week Media Spot/Podcast, you may still submit a Theme Week PT this week, and claim the capped portion on the next available week, following your multi-week claim.

Basically post it this week so the updaters can see that it exists in the right timeframe but you can claim it later.

Assuming I did it correctly the portal has now been rolled over for players to create for S81. If you try to do so and it puts you as S80 with the late starter TPE let me know immediately and DO NOT spend any of your TPE. It’s still fixable if you do but it’s much more difficult
