We asked our Danish correspondent Peder Carlsen to get in touch with Daniel during the Icehockey World Cup in Aalborg, where the Swiss Center was representing Western Europe. Please find our uncut interviews for your reading pleasure. Kindly note that the first interview was recorded before the tournament and the second one after the tournament ended.

Peder Carlsen (PC): 'Daniel, you just come from the VHL Award Gala and now you are dressing for the Team Western Europe. Is this not a little too much for you?'

Daniel Janser (DJ): 'Hej Peder. No, I still feel fresh after an unfortunately short cut post-season. And you know the saying 'No rest for the wicked'. I just love hockey and cannot get enough of it. Besides, Zef Gonçalves asked me whether I would mind to play for Western Europe. As you may know, Zef and my dad won Gold in the WJC as the manager team for Europe. I thought if anyone can bring Gold back to Western Europe after 40 season looking from the outside in, it is Gonçalves.'

PC: 'Pundits from the VSN stipulated that Team USA has the best claim on the title this year. What do you think about this?'

DJ: 'I mean all teams are stacked, it is like the Who's Who of Hockey has assembled to battle it out. With so much quality around, details will decide matches. It will depend on how teams gel from the start as there is not much leeway to adapt to each other. I think that we have a competitive team. Cole was FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY in any goal-related category which was not based on pure statistics and is certainly one of the best netminders in the VHL at this moment in time. In Utonium we have a solid back up as well. DeGroot, Strasmore, Maellard and Nano patrol our blue line and our offense with Nico Pearce (who just barely but successfully escaped a Continental Cup), Ronan Lavelle, Leandro, Laperriere, Stolzschweiger awarded Jameson and me is more than adequate. Fun fact: Strasmore's grampa won the World Cup for Europe back in S46. Phil is so hyped for the chance to repeat his beloved grandfathers success.'

PC: 'Sounds like you have a lot of fun in the locker room.'

DJ: 'We are big children, being handsomely paid to play the sport we love. Of course we are excited. But make no mistake: everyone is eager to go home with Gold around their neck. So it is a good vibe in the locker room, but at the same time everyone is focussed on the common goal, which is naturally the cup.'

PC: 'Okay thanks for your insight and good luck.'

DJ: 'Thanks Peder, talk to you later.'

During the World Cup the Calgary Captain racked up the following numbers during the Round Robin:

10gp, 7g, 6a, 13pts, +0, 12 PIM, 29 hits, 7sb, 3gwg, 2ppg, 57.41FO% and 2 first star nods

In the playoffs the Rotkreuz native logged the following stats:

2gp, 2g, 2a, 4pts, +4, 2 PIM, 7 hits, 0 sb, 0gwg, 0ppg, 59.34FO%

Team Western Europe would dominate the Round Robin and go directly to the semi-finals against Canada. In this game he would meet AG to decide which team will go to the final. Daniel showed a dominant performance with 2 goals and 2 assists and put Team Canada in its place with a 5-3 win.

The final was against Team Nordic, lead by All-Star Defenceman, Beketov, Valiq and Labatte-Awardee Bo Johansson. This is the clash of the Titans of our time: on one side Swedish elegance and precision on the other side Swiss primal strength and stubborness. It is noteworthy that the two Star players pretty much neutralized each other and left the center stage to their team mates, chief amongst them Cole Pearce and Gonçalves who was involved in both goals in the 2-0 win.

PC: 'Daniel, Team Western Europe just conquered Gold. What are your thoughts right now?'

DJ: 'I am so proud of the team and our common achievement. Western Europe longed for this cup for so long and I am honoured and humbled to be part of the group to win it for our supporters.'

PC: 'The season starts soon again. Will you conserve some of this energy and release it in the league?'

DJ: 'It would be nice if it was that easy. For sure with three Wranglers conquering the throne, I hope that this gives the whole team a confidence boost to win clutch games.'

PC: 'What is next on the agenda for you?'

DJ: 'Well, my dad will drive the lads and me to Glasgow with the 'Chancer' to meet up with Bonnie's family and have our wedding on board his ship. We would have liked to go on a cruise for our honeymoon, unfortunately this is not possible as the league will probably not grind to a halt just because our nuptials took place. But we will go on a cruise in the next off-season when there is no WC scheduled.'

PC: 'Thanks Daniel and congratulations and all the best for your union.'

DJ: 'Thanks, mate.'
