    Elite Locker Room

The Victory Hockey League is a special kind of place where no actual hockey games are played and yet members all feel part of a team. What brings teams together is almost always the locker room. Now folks, I've been on some really good teams and some really bad teams. Some of my favourite memories in the VHL come from some of the other elite locker rooms I was in. The early season Wranglers with Slobo, Boulet, Smarch, Kendrick, Cujo and Janssen was a great time. The team evolved and we added guys like Devon, Bentz and Raw and the locker room remained top notch. It took awhile again before I found another truly fun locker room, but it came in Toronto with the likes of the Knight brothers, Devon, Brooks, Ray Funk, Nagger and Lobo. That was another absolutely amazing locker room. Now in Season 37 I believe I have stumbled upon another elite locker room with my new (old) team, the New York Americans.

Just who is on this amazing team you ask? Let's start with the elite members here. Terrence Fong, a guy who wins Cups everwhere he goes. Fong has made some of the greatest players in VHL history, all of whom have silly asian names. Now the amazing thing is that Fong and have ever never been on the same team despite both being around since he joined the league back in Season 5 or something. He was always one European teams while I was always on North American teams. I made teams like Calgary, New York and Toronto elite while he made Helsinki, Davos and Riga elite. Fong is a good guy and one of the top members in the VHL. I am pleased to finally share a locker room with him.

David Knight is still an elite member in the VHL despite his recent history of relative inactivity. David and I have a long history together in the VHL and on the same team. Most notably, we played on Toronto together, forming one of the best defensive pairings and teams in the history of the league. David was a longtime commish and an excellent member. He too has had a number of Hall of Fame players and is absolutely one of the best guys involved with the league. I am happy to have him as a teammate yet again.

My real life friend Smarch has an excellent defenseman in the making having just claimed a number of top awards (winning the Labatte as a rookie). Smarch and I have been on teams a number of times and we have natural chemistry as we've been friends since grade nine. We hosted a podcast together a long time ago and have had lots of success together at varying times in the league. He has a good sense of humour and is an all around good guy. I'm keen on playing on a team with him while he has an elite, Hall of Fame potential player.

I've never been on a team with Devise before and quite frankly he pisses me off sometimes when I have to read his 300 word posts. He likes to talk obviously and that's not a bad thing. Devise is an elite member in this league and provides a lot to a team. Since I've never been on a team with him I can't comment on how he is in the locker room, but I know he's a hell of a member who makes damn fine players. I look very much forward to having him as a teammate for once.

Boom kind of goes without saying. Boom is the best member in the VHL today. The most liked and easily one of the most respected. He's a great guy, a good poster and makes some very good VHL players. I've never been on a team with Boom before either, but this is a real treat for me. I know he posts copious amounts of naked women pictures in locker rooms that I stumble upon always after he leaves teams. Boom being on New York is for sure one of the top reasons why I wanted to come back to this team. He's the best, plain and simple.

Advantage is a giant turd so I don't need to say much about him at this point. I was on his New York team when he first became GM. I was pissed after Riga traded me to New York, but I learned that Chris is a top notch General Manager in this league. He is, in my opinion, the best GM in the league and he's a good leader for the team. I am very happy to work with him again and to be honest, I have been giving him my opinion on his moves over the past few seasons.

Meg is a largely polarizing character in this league. She gets into spats with other members regularly, but I really like her. She a person who means well, but is prone to some extra emotional reactions to things. I have always enjoyed talking with her and having her as a teammate. I want to see her succeed in this league because she has gone through a lot of shit.

Tylar is another member I don't really know, but I know he is a good guy and he has made some very good players in the league. I look forward to learning some more about this guy. I was on his team last season and he didn't say much so I hope we can learn more. Randomhero is a new guy in the league and has already showed us why he was worthy of going second overall. He seems like a really good guy with a real drive to learn and succeed. I think he'll go down as one of the best first gens when all is said and done. I look forward to seeing his player become elite.

Turner and GIYGAS are two guys who have been quiet in the last few seasons, but they both have history in the league. Damien in particular has made some of the best players in league history. These guys add a lot of extra character into the locker room. I look forward to working with them and getting to know them better too.

As you can see, New York has an absolutely dynamite locker room with some of the league's top members. I am really excited to see what this team can do in the next few years as they grow up a bit. The team has a nice mix of vets and youth and I really think they will be a close fourth this season in North America. Like Toronto in Season 29, I expect on of the big teams in North America to stumble a lot more than they anticipated and I think New York will be above average for sure.

sterling got a reaction from BOOM in Slaughter Excited to Land in New York
A day after the Season 37 VHL Entry Draft, third overall selection Tom Slaughter landed in New York to a hoard of media. Slaughter is widely touted as one of the top prospects ever in VHL history and in a somewhat surprising move he was taken third overall. Former teammate Slaeter Fjorsstrom went first overall to the Riga Reign in a move that was expected. First generation player Jakob Linholm went second overall which surprised many, but not Slaughter as he had already spoken with General Manager Chris Miller about the event.

"I was happy for Slaeter and for Linholm. Those are two guys who will have excellent VHL careers. Thankfully I get to share my career with the latter and I get to wish Slaeter luck. I know he wanted to go first overall, it was important to him. I was more focused on getting to a team that fit me. I think Riga will be a good team in future seasons, but this New York team is a lot better I think. We have a lot of developing talent and some excellent veterans in place already. I'm excited to call New York home and really anticipate having a good rookie season," Slaughter said.

sterling got a reaction from STZ in Watchmen Win It All
In what was truly expected, the Bratislava Watchmen capped off an exquisite season in style by defeating the Yukon Rush in six games to win their second Founder's Cup since expansion. The team was hyped as the big dogs all season and in the end they didn't let that hype burst their bubble. Overall, the team finished 74-7-1 in their 82 total games, finishing as one of the most dominant teams in the history of the league. The Watchmen should undoubtedly have the top three draft picks taken in the Season 37 Entry Draft, a true testament to the team's quality. For forward Tom Slaughter, this was his second Founder's Cup in as many seasons.

"They are both special moments in my hockey career, but this one will remain as the better memory for me since I was with this team from day one. Last season I was fortunate enough to play on a veteran team that picked me up on waivers. This season we just dominated from the get go and it was never a one man show. There were a lot of great hockey players on the Watchmen this season, many future stars in this league. Vince Wong should be extremely proud of his team, he was tremendous," Slaughter said.

The Best Team Since Season One?

It's been a long time since season one of the VHL, so long because it seems as long as I'll be alive, so will the VHL. Way back, six and a half years ago, the Calgary Wranglers finished the regular season an astonishing 69-3 in what we've next seen since. It has been extremely uncommon in the VHL for any team to finish with single digit losses and sixty plus wins, but 35 seasons later we've seen one VHLM team come close to matching Calgary's unforgettable season. The Bratislava Watchmen finished Season 36 with a 66-5-1 record which will make them one of the greatest teams in the history of the VHLM or VHL. The Watchmen are better than several VHL teams, which is a true testament to the enormous skill and depth this team possesses.

What is most impressive to me about the Watchmen this season is that they only allowed 104 goals over a seventy-two game schedule in the VHLM. Of course the VHLM is known as a high octane scoring league, which makes this feat even more impressive to me. Furthermore, the Watchmen notched 297 goals on the campaign special in comparison to other teams, but the impressive aspect is that the team got scoring from both lines. The Watchmen's incredible depth was the key to their success. The team had three 100 point scorers and four scorers above 50 points on the season, which is a sure sign of the depth of the roster.

The team's true strength came in their strong defensive core and in net. Goaltender Martin Brookside had what I would call a most valuable player worthy season recording 18 shutouts and an impressive .924 save percentage starting a fatiguing 72 games! Brookside was certainly aided by a strong defensive team in front of him. The top five defenseman Andrey Zadorov, Slaeter Fjorsstrom, Phil Villeneuve, David Januzaj and Haggard Slobban are all players who could manage on VHL rosters. The top four will likely have long VHL careers. Fjorsstrom and Zadorov in particular have the highest skill level and potential.

Meanwhile, the forward corps were equally as skilled and successful. Carried by veteran forwards Mario Corvia, Sasha Stepanov and Vincenzo Valentini and Season 37 Entry Draft prospect Tom Slaughter, the offense was good enough to lead the team to most of their victories when they had to, which wasn't very frequently with the team's excellent defensive core and goaltending. The two top prospects of this season's Entry Draft belong to the Watchmen. Fjorsstrom didn't quite have the statistical season he had hoped for, but he proved his extreme value early in the playoffs leading his team is scoring, notching a game winning goal in game four.

Tom Slaughter is the other high end talent on the team and had a modest first round playoffs series with five points in four games. The Watchmen made easy work of the Bern Royals, disposing of them in a four game sweep. The Watchmen look to keep it going against the undetermined winner of the North American Conference Final. It is certainly not unfathomable for the team to sweep the finals as well, but if history has taught us anything, it is that nothing is ever a sure bet in the VHL. The season one Calgary Wranglers will forever be the best regular season team in VHL history, but they choked in the finals. What will the Watchmen do this season? Perhaps they will go down as the best ever single season team in league history? Only time will tell.

A little bit for FA difference was nice to see, even if he screwed a team over, Jason should have known better.

The only thing that pisses me off about Device is his need to post a novel every time he posts.

Yes you are. There is a very small minority who agree with this, even in here. What exactly do you suppose the benefits would be. To me, having two simmers means way more inconsistency and yes, having two separate leagues, two separate sims and two separate files is more work. That seems like common sense to me. Not to mention, I dont think you understand the amount of work a radical change takes in this league. Making a second sim also entails eliminating VHLM teams. Overall, I know you wont change a damn thing because the Minors will never be perfect.

Like I said before, the intent of the VHLM is not parity, it is development. What you need are good GMs and better recruiting. Youre trying to solve a problem that doesnt need to be solved.
