As a young player, I always dreamed of one day playing in the American leagues and apparently that dream might come true now. I am still unsure about which teams are interested and I just hope that some of the managers trust me enough to recruit me onto one of their teams. Mark Gebauer @Sova has been helping me with my transition and I am really grateful for that I know him for a long time and we played together on some teams and he was a good teammate back then. I hope to play wth him one day but right now I just am hoping to find a footing in this league and I know that might take time. i need to develop as a player first but as I already said I just hope there is a team that trust me enough to recruit me. I have heard some stories about the VHLM and the VHL already and both seem to be great leagues for a young player like me so I am not worried but I just hope that I will succeed and for that, I prepared myself to practice a lot. So far I am just looking for offers from any team as I am not so familiar with them yet I dont have a preference as which team I play for.

Sova got a reaction from Victor in About Gebauers Season and his potential teams
Today we will do a small recap on Mark Gebauer seasons and see how the rookie did. First of all, if you take a look at where his team, the Calgary Wranglers, ended the season you might quickly judge it as a disappointing season and you would not be entirely incorrect with that judgement. At the beginning of the season Mark was struggling a lot and was bearly able to score any points for his team, he wasn't even in the top 50 skaters for a long time. As the season continued to develop Mark started to become an integral part in the offence of the Wranglers and worked his way up to the 3rd most important scorer on the team. This is even more impressive considering how much ground he had to cover because of his slow start and if he is able to keep this up he might be a vital player next season. People that followed the Junior World Cup saw mark leading team Europe all the way to the finals where they lost a close game against Canada. All these factors seem to indicate that he has truly improved as a player during the last season and will now be a lot better than what he was just a couple of months ago and if that development continues he might become an outstanding player that might  be able to be a star on a roster at some point. This is all quite speculative as Mark is still young and we can't be sure if he continues to develop or if he is going to hit a plateau sooner rather than later but this will only be certain with time.
Any GMs that are looking to acquire a scoring center should be looking into the possibility of getting Mark since it is somewhat of a gamble considering that there is a chance he'll just stop improving but that might allow them to trade him for less valuable assets and therefore get a great deal if his team decides they want to trade him. We asked Mark about this issue and he stated that he has no allegiances to any VHL team and just wants to play as much as possible and at some point win a cup but besides that, the Rookie made no comments about which team he favours or if he would like to be traded or not. It seems to be a good time for GMs to reach out but also he might also stay in Calgary and he would be more than happy doing so. One peculiar thing Mark mentioned is that he said if he had to choose a team he would like to play for Moscow since this is a city he feels at home in and the GM @Victor seems to be great at his job. Mark also quickly added he would not want to cause damage to Calgary and therefore will not demand any trades neither now nor in the future unless unforeseen circumstances arise and force him to do so.

On Friday, the VHL commissioner Beketov announced that two more teams will be added to the VHLM, and the Oslo Storm will be relocated to Minnesota. The VHL also had their fair share of changes, with the Quebec City Meute relocating to Vancouver and the Moscow Menace being added to the league. It was a big day for the VHL and many would consider it a successful one. But was it successful? Lets take a look and see what the relocations and expansions do for the league.

Lets take a look into the relocations. The Oslo Storm moved from the Scandinavian region all the way to the USA, where they are now the Minnesota Storm. This move came because of the lack of American teams, which was apparently a pressing issue for the league. As most of the VHL and VHLM are canadian teams, they decided to up their American representation. This is probably a good move in the end. They also added the Philadelphia Reapers and the Houston Bulls to the VHLM, which helps new members get more playing time on minor league teams, which I think is very important. In the VHL that is a little bit less of an issue since if you have enough TPE to make it to the VHL you are probably somewhat dedicated regardless of playing time. New members aren't, so if you can get them to have success early on more people will stay.

They also announced the expansion of another VHL team, the Moscow Menace. The clear goal that the GM Victor had was to intimidate his opponents, as that is how they do it in Russia. He put it best when he described the logo as "Someone on the verge of taking over your home and make no mistake, the threat of invasion is very real!" Victor was GM for the HC Davos team that last won the cup, which was in Season 38. Victor hopes he can recreate the success he had with that team, but now with the Menace. The real question is who will make the playoffs first: Moscow or HC Davos? I certainly hope it is HC Davos, considering some teams (such as HC Davos) don't have many players that are actually good that will be left unprotected. This may cost them a third round pick if they can't get their act together and offer Moscow an active player in the expansion draft. However, Moscow will also likely get good players from the Riga Reign, the Seattle Bears, Toronto Legion and the Helsinki Titans. They should be able to get four really solid players from those four teams, especially Helsinki and Riga. The Titans have 11 players over 400 TPE, and most likely will have 12 by the end of the year. Moscow should have a good start to the expansion draft with some of the guys available from Helsinki.

All in all, it was a successful day for the VHL. Perhaps one day we will have some many users that we need more teams. I also think it would be an interesting idea to give Rome a team, whether through relocation or expansion. Just because Rome is cool, they can put ice in the coliseum and play there.

Sova got a reaction from Nykonax in Who should the expansions teams draft.
Disclaimer: This is a joke so please don't take it seriously
Today I will present to you my 100% correct expansion draft prediction first I will name the best player at all the positions and then we will dive into who should draft whom and what each GMs priorities should be.
This is gonna have a different format from most mock drafts but my way of doing it is definitely far superior.
The best goaltender to draft: As a new expansion team you should be looking to secure your goal by putting a decent player in front of your net. The role of the goalie is essential since if you get scored on a lot you'll lose and losing is bad. Many might argue that this should be Alexander Pepper since he has the second highest GAA and SV% while having more wins and performing better in Shootouts then Stopko but anyone that truly knows the league (and since he is probably going to be protected by his team since their GM also doesn't have an idea of who the true best goalie of the season is) should be more than certain that the actual best available goalie of this is league is no other than the Davos forward Elias Dahlberg @Nykonax He has blocked an incredible 23 shots this season and he did that by putting his own body on the line what a team player he is. Moving onto the next category best defender to draft: Well this category isn't even close I mean the league has almost no defensive talent and isn't stacked at this position at all I mean there are only as my pick for this would call them "Randoms" these are benders like Malenko who has a measly 94 points in 60 games or Maxim Kovalchuck who has a plus minus of +43 which is something my player would only laugh about. Well with all this build up its time to announce my nominee for this category. Elias Dahlberg, yes this is a true all-around defensive talent not only will he be playing at the goalie position and making saves left and right he will also be replacing both of your defenders at the same time (just imagine how much salary that saves you) with an incredible plus minus of -12 (which is only the fault of his teammates) Dahlberg will surely be an Hall of fame defender within the first 15 games you let him start.

We move onto the question which forward should they draft and as you might have already guessed its no other than (drum roll please)..........
Elias Dahlberg, yes you are correct both expansion teams should be looking to complete their rosters by adding 3 Dahlberg forwards to their roster which would mean Elias gets to play entirely by himself this would truly allow him to flourish as he would no longer be weight down by other players that only keep him from having the puck all in all if one of the teams manages to follow my advice I would rate their line up a solid 5/5 on the Dahlberg scale and also this would open up entirely new possibilities in terms of strategies.
All in all, I advise both new GMs to try and invest most of their allocated money in cloning research to make this dream team come true and anyone that disagrees with this doesn't know how hockey works.

This world Junior Mark has been at the center of team Europe and the medias attention. After a slow start, Mark has started his 6 game point streak and so far has been able to rack up 12 points in 8 games. Mark has been a vital peace for Europes offence and is leading the entire tournament in scoring so far and is only second to his teammate Landon Baxtor in points. Mark seems to have found his groove an this is showing in this tournament and many people hope he will be able to show up in such a big way in the VHL as well since so far Mark has at best been mediocre. Marks game has changed drastically over the last couple of weeks and it seems to be paying off as he started racking up points in the VHL and WCJ but at the moment it is to early to definitively judge this.
Marks performance in the WCJ seems to show that he truly is struggling with the competition in the VHL rather than being flat out untalented which could be perceived as a good sign since he might adjust to the harder competition while it would be unlikely for him to suddenly find his talent again.
All in all, we can just hope he gathers some confidence in this tournament that he then uses in the VHL and gift us some great goals.

This Is Why You Don't Bench a Wahl
S64 has defiantly started out differently that Rookie goaltender Brick Wahl of The Calgary Wranglers had anticipated. Brick was hoping to see some ice time in the first couple games of the season  but instead this feisty tendie has been benched. Most people aren't blinking at the fact that The Wranglers GM @Bushito is starting Shawn Brodeur @TheLastOlympian07 because at this time although he is in his season he is currently the better goalie of the two, some people do find it odd to not give your rookie goalie a start now at the beginning of the season while the stakes are low and all the teams are trying to figure out their lines.

(Above is the only action Wahl has seen in these first games of the season, look at those reflexes...Why wouldn't you want this rookie in your net?)

You can't feel to bad for brick when you hear of the antics that he has been up to while he has been forced to be a bench warmer. Brick as seems to be biding his time with humor. There is a specific moment that was caught on camera when Wahl had two S64 Rookies action figures of himself and @Nykonax Dahlberg. Wahl ended up doing an impression of the chirping that happens when the two go face to face. " Eh Brickie not to say you suck, but you get dangled more than a fricken' yoyo" Wahl said in a feminine high pitched tone meant to mock Dahlberg with his impersonation. Then Wahl replied as himself "Dahlberg, I'm in every state farm insurance commercial. They love me because represent saving a-hole"

Funny enough when Brick was asked what other action figures he used to make his bench mates laugh he mentioned that he brought out his S63 Rhett Stoffiday @Stoffiday and S64 Fin Davison @Poptart and made them do a battle royal for the starting position in Davos.  When asked who won the battle Wahl replied, "Davos has 2 amazing goalies, too bad they only need one. @ShawnGlade is going to have to make some tough decisions eventually. You can't ride two horses with one ass as Stoff would say." The last set of figures Brick mentioned cracking out of their pristine boxes were two players who are not even on the same team. S62's Jake Davis @Reives and S63's Joseph Mcwolf @McWolf both have a certain reputation in the league,  although Wahl would not describe for the press what he did with the figures in this case his team mate Mark Gebauer @Sova described it as highly suggestive and more than a bit salacious. At this point we are all hoping to see Brick put away the action figures and make his way out on the ice, only question is how will the other VHLers react to Wahls wild antics.

Name after name after name being called during the VHLM dispersal draft that recently happened, and Joe Nixon sat down with us after each one went by.

Nixon was eventually selected in the 5th round by the Las Vegas Aces, and the relief and happiness he felt when his name called was an experience like no other. Nixon, who has done interviews with us in the past few weeks, sat down with us one final time as a prospect before he was picked in the dispersal draft.

"It's nerve racking to be here, to know that people were looking at me and that my name might be called by the end of the night, but never really knowing when," Nixon told us before the draft had started. We asked him where he thought he should go and he answered nervously, stating "First overall," Nixon laughed, "I mean that's what my ego wants it to be! I know that's never gonna happen, so I'm realistically hoping maybe third round or so? To a team that I think needs me and can utilize my game in the future? I mean that's all I can ask for really, I just want a GM who believes in me."

Nixon waited a little longer than he had wanted, but that didn't get him down in the dumps. He told us, after the third round ended, "My prediction was off but maybe I'll get the call soon enough. I have my doubts, but I know that my game is at the level to play in this league, or at least will be soon enough. I have confidence that someone believes in me. I just can't wait to find out who.... I hope." Nixon said he was anxious about the upcoming rounds, but if he did eventually go to free agency, that he would make sure he would pick himself back up and show the GMs what they passed on.

This was all before his name was called though, and his demeanor changed a little after he picked up that Aces hat and sat back down with us. "Okay wow, now the pressure is off. I feel great!" Nixon exclaimed, sporting his new Vegas gear. "The GM of the aces took a shot at me and that's so special. It's so amazing to know that in a league like this where the entry for talent is so high, at least one front office of people took a look at my films and said 'I want this dude in our jersey' and just even the thought of that is so incredibly flattering! I know what I said earlier about showing up teams who passed on me and stuff like that but that's just draft talk, heat of the moment talk. You know how it is. When you spend that time waiting you start to get angry and motivated to make yourself better to make sure that next time, you don't have to wait as long." Nixon was able to talk on and on about his future with the team and how the draft went overall, but he left to run over to the Aces press conference table, where he spent some time answering questions with the Las Vegas media who took their time to show up at today's draft.

Nixon's view and complete turnaround of emotions really shows what's going on through a player's head as the draft is going on, but the special part about the process is the kids being able to leave this building with a smile on their face and knowing that their dreams of playing in the league are coming true, and all their hard work in the past is paying off to give them a future in the great sport of hockey.

Trevor Cobelo is currently an unsigned free agent right now, and if you happen to have a free roster spot, I would suggest you pick him up. While he only has 30 TPE right now, his ability to grind when motivated is unmatched. As him and I are friends, he has told me that he loves the idea of the VHL and all, but was frustrated that he couldn't get with a team, while I was achieving successs, even though he had discovered this first. Let me tell you, if you sign him, you will not be disappointed. Trevor Cobelo is an all time great grinder, and could gather a starting haul of 25 TPE in his first true week, and streamline a steady 10 or so TPE per week after that. When motivated, I have seen no one grind as hard as I have seen Trevor grind, and all you have to do is sign him to an entry level deal. By the end of the season, you will be thanking yourself for reading this and acting accordingly.
