Titans Retire Three from S63 Class

Helsinki's took to the stage five times in the first two rounds of the season 63 draft. Four of those players would prove to be long term Titans playing the entirety of their professional careers for the organization. @Quik (HSK GM S62-68) took to the stage following Riga and New York's selections of Ryan Kastelic and Joseph McWolf respectively. With pick #3 the Titans chose a budding star in Julian Borwinn. The newcomer has just put up a 45 goal / 87 point season for Vegas in the VHLM. With pick #4 Helsinki called the name of defender Sidney Crosby. Another Vegas VHLMer who had a strong single minor league season of 59 points and 174 hits. Keeping with the Vegas theme, Helsinki made their first of three 2nd selections taking promising goaltender Alexander Pepper who hit the 50 win mark in his lone VHLM season and a 1.99 GAA. At pick 11, the Titans grabbed Vaydar Odinsson who looked to also be on the fast track to stardom. Finally with pick 13, the Titans took another defender in Jesse Wilson. Wilson was coming off a very strong 98 point performance in the minors and looked primed and ready to make the jump up. Of those selections, we are proud to announce three players will be raised to our rafters and be forever immortalized as some of the finest players to ever dawn the Titans crest.

    Julian Borwinn @Jubo07

Borwinn was immediately thrown into the Titans top six during their quick rebuild season. His well rounded game produced 42 goals and 42 assists leading to a rookie of the year award. He followed that up with 71 and 75 point seasons before the Titans hit their full potential in S66. Borwinn produced 51 goals and 114 points in S66; a season that saw the Titans capture the Continental Cup. Borwinn also achieved four personal awards; the Dustin Funk (Most Improved), the Kevin Brooks (Goal Leader), the Scotty Campbell (Regular Season MVP) and the Mike Szatkowski (Regular Season Point Leader). Season 66 was the defining season for Helsinki, a much deserved reward to a masterful rebuild. The 2nd half of Borwinn's career would produce 77, 96, 93 and 95 point seasons and three more personal awards including the S68 Scott Boulet (Top 2-Way Forward), his 2nd Szatkowski in S69 and his 2nd Campbell Trophy is season 70. Borwinn scored under 30 goals just once in his VHL career. He is now the General Manager of the Helsinki Titans and hopes to lead the next waive of youth to championship glory.

    Alexander Pepper @Sonnet

Achieving 50 wins in the minors and being awarded the Benoit Devereaux (Top VHLM Goalie) will catch the eye of any GM. Helsinki made another brilliant selection in S63 taking Pepper at pick 10. As any rebuild typically goes, you would expect a struggle in the initial stages; yet Pepper earned a respectable 25 wins and a 0.918 SV% right out of the gate as a young starter. Helsinki hit their stride after S63 and Pepper followed suit by earning at least 30 wins for the remainder of his career. Similar to Borwinn, Pepper hit his peak in S66 with a 49-13-2 record 0.921 SV% and 5 shutouts. Along with the Continental cup he would add two personal awards that season; the Aiden Shaw (Top VHL Goalie) and the Daisuke Kanou (Playoff MVP). Pepper was stellar during their cup run earning an 8-1 record, 0.931 SV% and 2.15 GAA. Alexander Pepper finished his career as the Titans all-time wins leader with 302.

    Sidney Crosby @SidTheKid87

Vegas pumped out yet another VHL star from their S62 roster. Defender Sidney Crosby was selected fourth overall immediately following their Borwinn selection. Crosby, like Pepper and Borwinn, was placed in a major role from the get-go. While his +/- that season was more of a representation of a rebuild season he was still able to produce on the score sheet with 10 goals and 46 helpers. Crosby was becoming cemented as a powerplay quarterback and scored 6 of his 10 with the man advantage. Crosby followed up his rookie season with 36 and 63 point seasons before raising his stock to being one of the best all-around defenceman in the league. Season 66 transformed Crosby into a household name as he scored 12 goals and added 65 assists for 77 points. He added another 14 points in 9 games en-route to the S66 Continental Cup victory.

Borwinn, Pepper and Crosby all dawning their Titans pride. These three players played their entire
careers together from Vegas to Helsinki and will forever be immortalized in the Titans history books.

    Special Mention S62 Draftee

    Dan Montgomery @BarzalGoat - 575 GP / 137 G / 323 A / 460 P / +75 / 974 HITS / 725 SB / 48 PPG
Selected 6th overall in the S62 draft, Dan Montgomery was an initial piece to the pending rebuild in Helsinki. Monty was a forward for the first two seasons of his career and scored 29 and 34 goals respectively. He was an integral part of the Titans rebuild and eventual claim to the S66 Continental Cup. S66 was Dan's strongest season and his third as a defender; he scored 18 goals and tallied 73 assists for 91 points while adding a +42, 207 hits and 126 blocks. Monty added 12 points in 9 playoff games. Dan would play his entire career with the Titans before hanging up the skates at the conclusion of S69.

That’s also generally frowned upon and something I was pretty sure was in the rules until Quik and I looked at them a few seasons ago. It’s also in place to generally avoid teams dumping cap space to rebuilding teams in exchange for taking it back at a slightly later date. In general, like you said, not a huge deal.

With @Quik on vacation I discussed it with @Will and we agreed to amend the rule to the following:

    6.7 – Reacquiring a Player Previously Traded
All trades involving a player being re-acquired by a team that traded them within the previous 2 seasons, including the season in which they were traded (i.e. if they were traded in S68, S68 and S69), will be subject to extra scrutiny by league administration. If the trade is found to have malicious intent that is damaging to the league (such as a temporary cap deferral arrangement), the Commissioner's Office reserves the right to veto it.

So this trade will be allowed but in the future please don’t try to just get away with things that are against the rules. We’re way more likely to allow things if you just come to us with them instead of breaking the rule and then trying to argue it’s a dumb rule.

SidTheKid87 reacted to Jubo in Titans Seek 4th Consecutive Final
The race for first in the European Conference came to an end Sunday. The Helsinki Titans despite a roller coaster campaign managed to hold off Moscow and Riga for the conference title. The Titans acquired their 40th win of the season; a decisive 6-1 win over the leagues last place team from New York. This week will mark the start of the season 67 playoffs where Helsinki will receive a buy into round two where they will face the winner of the Menace and Reign. Should The Titans move past their eventual opponent, they would successfully achieve their fourth consecutive finals appearance. Helsinki saw a drop in offensive performance compared to their dream season 66. Only three skaters managed over a point per game; Borwinn (77), Thompson (83) and this seasons big acquisition Dan Wilinsky (86). Goaltender Alexander Pepper achieved almost identical stats with a 2.45 GAA, .922 S% and five shutouts. The Titans struggled season long with line chemistry, yet the playoffs offer a fresh start.

Regarding the North American Conference; The Toronto Legion outperformed all season with a lackluster roster and below average goaltender. There is a lot to be said about line chemistry and finding the right mix of skill and depth but don't be surprised if the winner of the round one match-up between Vancouver and Calgary manage to handle them with more ease than the standings would suggest. Stay tuned for what should be another exciting installment of the VHL playoffs.

    Yes, it's off center. Defence.

Tennessee News: What's on your short term list looking like you will be a top 10 to 20 draft for S68?
Fredrik Elmebeck: I really don't know, I am hoping for an American destination, but who can tell.
    TN: Whom?
    FE: Who.
TN: So who do you see as your biggest rival?
FE: For the draft? There are a lot of more skilled defencemen than me, but the only only one above me from this year is probably the erotically charged @Esso2264, we have no sexual relationship though.
    TN: What?
FE: Just a play on his name instead of making a joke on circumcision.
TN: If you get drafted, either into one of the established teams or one of the two new teams in VHL, what are you seeking in terms of money, stats or reputation?
FE: As I have already told multiple scouts, although the new franchises are yet to contact me, I am looking to do my best, put effort into every game and, and then the dice lands where they land. All I promise is to be the best I can be. However I would prefer a North American location, and also be able to face @SidTheKid87 before he fades into mediocrity.
TN: So you have some sort of vendetta with Sid?
FE: Not at all, I just think his name, style of play and position is bland and wrong, and frankly it's lazy. I'd love to see him pick me up on that.
TN: For the new franchises, which cities would you favor if given the chance?
FE: I was once offered a job in Reykjavik that I turned down and later regretted, so that would be awesome if they got a proper team there. But I really would like to go to USA, so a mid-western or southern team, perhaps Amarillo Sarsaparillas, would also suit me if New York or Seattle wouldn't draft me.
TN: No Canada or mainland Europe for you?
FE: I like Canada a lot, eh, got some Canadian jokes in store ... and I like most of the European teams too. I just want freedom, so I'd rather go over the 'pond' instead of staying here.
TN: As for players in the league WHOM have you connected with?
FE: Mostly @Tate, @Dalton Wilcox and @FrostBeard for now, but the list seems to exponentially open up, and I like the rookies like @Viperxhawks19, etc. it can only get better from here on.
TN: Thank you for your time.
FE: No worries, mate. Just kidding, don't throw your jandals at me, I am neither Aussie or Kiwi, but do throw some shrimps on the barbie!
TN: We're from the deep south, save your Oceanic jokes for another time.
    FE: Wilco.
