  1. 1. We have some big holes in the roster right now so it is what it is. We finished second last in the league so it’s not too surprising. We’ll get better over time. 2. Seemed interesting enough. I’m not sure if I really agree because it favours the better teams that don’t need it as much. 3. That’s tough. We don’t really have any assets we would want to part with. We already traded Leseiur away. 4. I’m taking it all ? 5. Cant say I’ve been in London long enough to know. 6. The last one I finished was book 10 in the Demonata series by Darren Shan. I had started reading a bit of Enders game but never finished it.
  2. Signature Template Name: Alec Volchenkov Team: London United Player Number: 50 Render Choice: Patrice Bergeron or Evgeny Kuznetsov Are you S70?: S72 makes the cut, yes?
  3. Ouch... rubbing the salt in the wound with this article. Great job on it, i love the detail but too soon ?
  4. Today we’re going to be continuing the series of looking at the greatest players of the portal era. For today’s country we’re going to be looking at Sweden and will be split into two parts. The format I’m going to use is the five skaters of any position and one goalie. If there’s a player I feel is worth mentioning that didn’t make the cut I’ll put them into an honourable mention category. Now that we have that out of the way let’s get into it! F - Sebastian Ironside 1200 TPE (@DollarAndADream) To start off this list we have none other than Sebastian Ironside, one of the best players in his draft class. This dynamic player could give you a full 200-foot-game night in and night out. In 576 career games he put up 263 goals and 423 assists for an astounding 686 points. During his 8 year career he recorded four 100+ point seasons in a row. In those 8 seasons he had over 2000 hits and more than 500 blocked shots. In 45 playoff games he was almost a point-per-game with 20 goals and 23 assists for 43 points. In S63 he took home the Scotty Campbell Trophy for league MVP, Kevin Brooks Trophy for being the leading goal scorer, and the Dustin Funk Trophy for being the most improved player. After his outstanding performance in S63 he was able to continue that success the following season and capture his only Continental Cup in S64. Although he isn’t a Hall of Famer, he is one of the best Swedes to ever play the game. F - Theo Axelsson 1003 TPA (Unknown) Next up we have one of the best Two-Way players of all time, Hall of Famer Theo Axelsson. In Theo’s 8 year career between S50-57 he amassed 331 goals and 386 assists for 717 points in 576 career games. I’m not sure where he ranks in all time points but he has to be the greatest Swedish born player of all time. He had over 2700 hits in his career and if takeaways were calculated I’m sure he would be in top 5 of all time in that category. In 75 career playoff games he had 46 goals and 45 assists for 91 playoff points. He’s a two-time Continental Cup winner along with a Daisuke Kanou Trophy winner for playoff MVP. He won the Scott Boulet Trophy 3 times in 4 seasons for the league’s best two-way forward. One thing I found interesting in his career is that he amassed 999 penalty minutes. F - Elias Dahlberg 1051 TPE (@Nykonax) Up next we come to Elias Dahlberg. Although Dahlberg had a shortened career at only 6 seasons he made the most of his time in the VHL. In 431 career games he was able to put up 208 goals and 229 assists for 437 points. Anytime you can be a point-per-game in the regular season, that is fantastic. Although he couldn’t find post-season success he was able to record 22 goals and 20 assists for 42 points in 49 playoff games. He did however win the Dustin Funk Trophy in S65 when he jumped from 36 points in S64 to 105 in S65. Maybe if he stuck around another couple seasons he could’ve had a shot winning a cup but alas for one reason or another his career was cut short. That’s all we have today for part one of the greatest Swedish players from the portal era today but be sure to check back in soon for part 2! Thanks for reading, let me know what you think of the players so far down below!
  5. We would’ve been unstoppable.. sorry to disappoint Victor
  6. I never though Volosenkov would ever be mentioned again. Thanks for that! Hopefully Volchenkov can live up to that standard
  7. Review: This is a pretty good job, especially for your first attempt! You did a good job making the colours fit San Diego’s identity. I appreciate that you took the time to put the logo on the crest and make it look fairly natural as well. The colour scheme is very thematic and I like the consistency you kept through the entire graphic. The font style is a very interesting choice. It works but gets a little lost in front of the player. Background isnt quite my taste but that’s personal preference. Overall this is a great job though! 9/10
  8. Review: This is a pretty good edit. I like the Canadian theme with the leaf on the helmet and in the background. The font style is awesome! The colour scheme all around is very thematic and fits well with the general vibe of Team Canada. There’s not really anything I’d change about this in particular so I’ll give it 10/10
  9. 1. Absolutely. We only had a couple active players and no real star power. If we did do better than we did, we’d have problems in the future. 2. I was down in Ottawa all season but while I was in London for WJC I was at a game. While I was there I saw a drunk fan who kept cheering for Liverpool and yelling about red cards. 3. My seasons still going strong with Ottawa so hopefully win a cup and then move to London this summer. 4. Any rock band would be great with me. 5. I’ll leave advertising to front office. Could also try to get united airlines to sponsor us and call it the United Coliseum. 6. Alec Volchenkov, Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy ?
  10. Congrats to Team USA! Great job to all the gms and thank you for the first all star team selection.
  11. Some players that made it to the portal, their stats didn’t carry properly anyway. Just look at Jeff Hamilton for example
  12. This is amazing emi! I really appreciate how much effort you put into just research and making sure the team actually makes sense for the area.
  13. Welcome back to part 2 of the Greatest UK Players of the Portal Era. Last time we had a couple of the greatest players in VHL history, so let’s see what this part has to offer! If you’d like to check out part 1 of this list you can do so by clicking the following link; So far we've had 3 skaters selected, which means we have 2 more skaters and a goaltender remaining. Now with that out of the way let’s get into the list! D - Lance Flowers 1129 TPE (@CowboyinAmerica) To kick-start this list off we have defenseman Lance Flowers. Unlike the other players on this list Lance is the only player still currently active. After being selected 2nd overall by the New York Americans in S68, he has spent his career up to this point with them. In 421 contests (currently) he’s put up 58 goals and 273 assists for 331 points along with over 1500 hits and 700 shots blocked. He still has another 2 seasons left as well before he’s forced into retirement. Although New York hasn’t had too much playoff success so far, the limited time he has had he’s made the most of, recording 19 points in 19 playoff games. He was named rookie of the year in S68, as well as a two-time Jake Wylde trophy winner for best defensive defenseman. Even if Lance doesn’t win a cup in the next few seasons he’s had a great career regardless. D - Jeff Hamilton 1124 TPA (Unknown) Next up on the list we come to Jeff Hamilton. Jeff’s stats haven’t been fully recorded, only having stats from 5 regular seasons from S49 - S53 but was on 4 different teams in that short span. In 360 career games he recorded 122 goals and 346 assists for 468 points. He did have stats from 6 seasons in the playoffs spanning a 7 year time-frame between S47 - S53. In the 54 playoff games he put up 9 goals and 30 assists for 39 points. Although his numbers are little less than what they should be he’s still a solid defender winning the Alexander Beketov Trophy in S50 for being the league leader in points. He’s also a two-time Sterling Labatte Trophy winner for the league’s top defenseman. He also managed to win a cup in S51 with Riga. Overall not a bad career for a defenseman. G - Finn Davison 1364 TPE (@Poptart) Now with skaters finished off we move onto the goalie which is none other than Finn Davison. In 487 regular season games Davison posted a 230-198-53 record along with 36 shutouts and a career .920SV% and 2.54GAA. He was never able to go very deep in the playoffs only ever playing in 1 or 2 rounds. However, he did win a Greg Clegane Trophy for lowest GAA in the league in S68 along with an Aidan Shaw Trophy for the league’s top goaltender in the same season. He may not be as decorated as other goalies, he had a solid career none-the-less and deserved a mention. In my personal opinion he was snuffed a second Aidan Shaw trophy in S71 having very similar stats to the winning goalie but achieving the same amount of wins and 2 more shutouts in 6 less games played. He had a .926SV% and 2.00GAA for crying out loud. That does it for part two of the Greatest UK Players of the Portal Era. Thanks for checking out my article and be sure to check back for more in the near future. If there’s a country you’d like to see me do next let me know! 610 words
  14. 1) Cheering for DC to make the playoffs so we get that first rounder but beyond that I don’t know. An underdog I suppose. 2) Absolutely. People got to experience a high intensity tournament so maybe a few more will take an interest in hockey. 3) When I come up next season I’ll definitely help bolster the roster. Krestanovich and Friedrikson will make a big impact too. It’ll just keep getting better. 4) That’s a tough question to explain via text but I’d probably go with Red as the main and accent the white and blue. 5) We need anything and everything so the best player available is probably the beat bet. At the same time it’d be really nice to get Doug Dimmadome and @Plate on the roster. There’s a few more I’d like to see but we can’t take them all. 6) I’d go with Seven Nation Army because it’s a song that gets me hyped and ready to go.
  15. Review: This is a really cool style that I haven’t seen anyone else do. I like the text I just feel it would look better having the inside be a solid colour instead of transparent. My other complaint would be the lack of team branding. That’s just personal preference though. Overall great job on this and I hope you make more in this art style. I’d rate this 8.5/10
  16. Review: This is a pretty sweet graphic. Great job with the implementation of the teams colour scheme. I love the skyline too. The logo is a little out of place on the jersey but it’s a tough angle so I don’t blame you. The text choice is pretty solid and i like the oversized last name. Overall I’d say this a 9.2/10
  17. So there’s theme week this week so here we are writing about VHL player builds. It would be interesting to see more variety in the league as a whole, since right now almost everyone has a scoring and defense build. That’s just what the sim engine likes so that’s what we have for now. I’ve always leaned towards a defensive playstyle so for all of my players I would continue to use that format. However, maybe in the future we’ll see the rise in power forwards or even defensive defenseman who don’t put TPA into scoring or passing. It would be kind of interesting to elaborate on scoring a little further and break it down into 2 categories. Either separate wrist shot and slap shot, accuracy and power or have both. That might require too much TPE investment and I'm not sure how practical it would be, it’s just a thought. Now, back onto the topic at hand. With the league trending towards snipers and offensive defenseman maybe my next player would just be a checking forward or defensive defenseman. Checking forwards are valuable picks in the VHFL but obviously you don’t build a player just to have them be a good fantasy pick. One thing I’ve been going through a lot for Media Spots is the birthplaces you can select in the VHL. Through some very brief research there’s quite a few countries on the portal that have no players registered under that country. My personal favourite is South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The backstory to being from that country and getting into hockey might be a little harder but honestly it’s worth it. A huge part of player creation is your actual player’s name. After playing franchise mode in NHL games for so long the randomly generated names I’ve seen can be pretty all over the place. Most of them are normal sounding for the region but there’s always a few that really stand out to me. I had one name written down that I thought was amazing, which I’ve given to someone who hopefully uses it when they create. I’m not sure if that’s public or not so I won’t mention who or what the name is. My next player’s name as of right now I have Johan Johansson lined up ready to be a stud in the VHL. Julius McMuffin is probably one of the better ones I’ve seen for randomly generated names. Regardless of what name I pick I would want it to actually have correlation to the region I’d be from. Some people just like to meme for names and that’s totally fine, I just personally prefer something a little more serious so I take the time to actually think about these things. This was a pretty decent theme week in my opinion. It gave me a good reason to rant about a couple things I otherwise wouldn’t have written about. I have a couple series in mind for media spots but those got put on hold for the time being in favour of this. Side note; if anyone uses Julius McMuffin for a VHL player it should be @rjfryman. He has a re-create coming up soon too {insert eyes here} 539 words
  18. Review: This is probably the wildest graphic I’ve ever seen on the forums and honestly I wouldn’t expect it from anyone but you. I really like how far off from a typical graphic you’ve gone here. It’s very unique and actually works pretty well. You have the core elements in place here but my main complaint is that it’s very busy but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think that cow logo is hilarious and really just fits with the absolute madness that is happening here. Great job harnessing that madness into something that still feels like it has a theme to it. I must say though, if you want something that’s attention grabbing, this is it. I was not expecting this at all when I clicked the link. I’m rating this one 11 cows out of 10
  19. Now if this was a list for how to take a hit, Volchenkov would be your guy ? casually leading the league in hits taken, no big deal though. ?
  20. Today we talk with Alec Volchenkov, Assistant Captain of Team Asia about his time in the WJC this season. How has the tournament been for you this season now that you’re more of a veteran presence in the WJC? ”It’s been a lot different. We had a great group of guys last year but I was a bit nervous coming in and we didn’t do too well. This season has been a lot better in terms of nerves and just the mentality I’ve had coming into games. After being through all of this once I kinda know what to expect. Last season we didn’t do great so there isn’t much pressure on us so we’ve just been going out and maybe surprising a few teams too.” After a hot start of 3 straight wins, how do you look to continue that success? ”We’re a very defensive team. If you look around at the guys we have they’re all great in our own end. If we can continue to shut down the opponents scoring chances and find a way to get a couple in the back of the net we’ll continue to win games. For now we’re just taking it one game at a time and giving it our best each night. It’s a tough schedule and we even have a back-to-back coming up but we just have to stick to the game plan and things will work out.” Well, that’s all we have time for today. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us and best of luck in the tournament! ”Thanks for having me on, cheers.”
  21. Review: I quite like this graphic. I appreciate the photo selection giving it action while still keeping the focus on the player. The red highlight around the player is a good choice and fits well with the colour scheme as a whole. You’ve done a good job implementing the Miami logo and making it look natural on the Crest of the jersey. The player name right behind him is pretty cool and the font style with the split colours works really well. My only complaint is the team uniform is a little boring but that’s not on you that’s just the style he’s wearing. You’ve done a great job with this and I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work on the forums. 10/10
  22. 1. One player won’t make it break a franchise but with talent like his it’ll be hard to not have an impact. They’ll pick it up, especially since he has the chemistry with the team already. 2. I wasn’t around to interact with him much but he’ll still be part of the united. 3. At least until they make the playoffs, yes. 4. James Rose and Jay Jones have both been solid for us. 5. Let’s say 3rd and 11th? I have no idea 6. That’s a tough question. It all depends on how much growth Players have. It’ll be one of our current active players I’d imagine.
