Review: I like the composition, but I'd change a few things if keeping with this style. I'd use a super simple text, go all out with the Danish design. Something like Helvetica or Arial in all-caps, black or red, would look really slick I think. Then put a red to white gradient map over the render to keep the whole thing cohesive. Keep at it!

While my time in Vegas hasn't been very long, I have acquired three players through waivers. Next year I will be working with only one fourth round pick, but thats ok, we are building for S68. Lets take a brief look at my acquisitions

    Milton Hilton @DameHoops

My first signing ever. While he has only claimed practice facility once, he still isn't lost to the sea of inactivity, although time will tell. His player had five points in thirteen games, not terrible.

    Jacob Scott @jscott

A defenseman that has claimed welfare this week, and also put up very respectable stats for a guy at 36 TPE. While he didn't score any goals, his seven assists is a good start. If he is around in the fourth round I could consider picking him up, depending who is available.

    Thorny Underyew @jack

Of course, now we have Jack. While he only got to suit up for one game, he has made a return to the VHL and remains one of the best graphic makers out there. He recently wrote out his rookie profile, and usually people who do that at least plan on sticking it out for a few seasons.

Petition to let VHLM GMs have GM players, that can just chill on their team for a bunch of seasons.

    Thorny Underyew: The Welsh Walloper

    LAS VEGAS - MONDAY JUNE 17, 2019

    Height: 6' 3" - 190cm
    Weight: 240lbs - 109kg
    Position: Centre

Underyew has recently moved to North America to pursue a career in the VHL. His recent signing with the Las Vegas Aces puts him in the right direction, although many are unsure if he can maintain the dominance that he has experienced in the UK. Underyew is from Wales, a country that has had very little homegrown talent make a splash across the pond. Underyew undoubtedly has skill, size, and cunning, but scouts are wary of his perseverance and commitment to playing hockey at the highest level.

Thorny has only played in the UK, his most recent stint playing for the Sheffield Steelers. His debut saw him rack up 4 points, including 2 goals. The season was middling for the Steelers as a whole, but Thorny put up excellent numbers. He tallied 22 goals and 18 assists through 48 games played as a rookie.

We'll have to wait until S67 to see Thorny suit up, and it's likely that he'll be assigned to a different team, as Las Vegas has only 1 draft pick in the upcoming dispersal draft. This is what we expect to see from Underyew as the 67th season gets underway:

    Pros

Shooting: Hockey is not popular in Wales, and we doubt that Thorny really had too many people to play against for most of his upbringing. We'd hazard a guess that he spent a lot of time practicing his shot, and it sure shows. We've seen him score from nearly everywhere in the offensive zone, from seemingly impossible angles. Below the circles, behind the net, through traffic, while falling down, he can so often overcome adversity and find a way to get the puck in the net.

Intimidation: It's not just his size. There is a threatening air that surrounds Thorny Underyew that very few will enter into. People fear him when he's skating down the ice, and it seems to give him an extra edge. He will not relent, he will go straight through anyone that stands in his way. He will likely face more adversity entering the bigger International leagues, but we suspect that his confidence is built-in and will not fade.

Game Control: We have seen games where Underyew is able to single-handedly take over and change the pace. His mere presence on the ice can create space and opportunities, as seen with his team-leading +/- of +20 on a net negative team. Expect Underyew to find chemistry with anyone and make his teammates better.

    Cons

Positioning: The UK is not nearly as developed as North America or Northern Europe when it comes to coaching and development. While Thorny certainly has raw skill, we expect to see him looking a little lost at times in the elite context. This will be the number one concern for GMs at the draft looking at Thorny.

Discipline: Thorny has a tendency to to take some unnecessary penalties, sometimes costing his team dearly. Expect coaches to come down hard on him, and hope that he listens to that advice, or he may spend more time on the bench—or in the press box—than he'd like to.

Communication: Thorny is relatively reserved, and may not adjust very well to the media's and his teammates' expectations. And that accent, who knows what he's saying on the ice?

    ---

Thorny will enter the S68 draft class, and is expected to go close to, if not in, the first round.

jack reacted to Beketov in Why the VHLGFX deserves TPE.
I’m not completely opposed to discussing the idea, it’s been rewarded in the past, however I don’t care for the way you present your argument. Pointing out every other way to earn TPE and saying “we’ll what about that” doesn’t really make your suggestion any better, it just makes it seem like you hate everything else. At the end of the day all the things you mentioned are fair and even methods that can benefit anyone in the community. Affiliate one is a bit of a stretch since you’d need active affiliate players but you’re taking about 2 TPE per month (roughly 36 TPE over a full career) maximum which is very little. Something like this incentivized only graphics makers. Anyone with no GFX talent can’t compete and anyone with a job that pays enough to not need a PT isn’t incentivized enough.

I do agree that our GFX talent has gone downhill, mainly since auto-6 was introduced. There’s no real denying that fact, people put in less effort because they need less effort. I will say though that GFX competitions I don’t think are necessarily a way to improve that quality. More likely you just end up with people being disappointed that they are losing to the same decent members every time. So how do we get our graphics back up to snuff? First I would say we need our  @Updaters to have more free reign to mark PT’s as needing review from @DollarAndADream which we have been doing. Get people putting the effort in again otherwise they won’t be getting their PT; this goes for MS’ as well but we aren’t talking about that. Second I think would be sharing help and resources and comments. This section used to be filled with new digs that people would post for CnC before they posted it as a PT because they wanted max points, there’s no reason that can’t happen now. If people want to improve they can ask for help. Resource sharing in here also used to be a huge thing. People sharing tutorials or PSD’s to help others learn, guiding them with different techniques. This is all still possible, I’ll gladly donate some of my own stockpile.

At the end of the day I think GFX will only improve if people want to improve. I don’t think throwing more TPE at a problem is the answer for everything, it just furthers the climate we have of people only doing things if they’ll be rewarded for it. Back in the day we did improve because we’d get better grades and more TPE for it but it was always a minimal difference. Things rarely got graded under 5/6 so that 1 TPE didn’t make people improve: people wanting to improve did. I would love to see the VHL be the leading sim league for graphics that it once was but I’m not sure throwing TPE at the problem is the way to do it.
