  1. I'm sure this is being discussed but make it during the regular season! Playoffs make it a lot more of which team is going to play the most games as opposed to how can I get the best players under the cap. I'm sure a league job/s could be created for fantasy point tracking too. Maybe have updates every week.
  2. I definitely care about who started this sig making tradition. Regardless, Higgins' sig is the best
  3. Here's what Spotify/last.fm tell me my top 9 most played artists are in the last week... 1. Passion Pit - they just came out with a new album but listen to everything. They're one of my faves 2. Blood Orange - alternative R&B, I feel like it's something people would either love or hate. Weird, weird album cover so don't judge it 3. Purity Ring - Yeah, hard to describe again but listen to them. Really fucking good although some people would call them weird. 4. Rihanna - It's fucking Rihanna. Sexy af and great at making music. Her new album is going to be dope 5. The Mowgil's - Honestly don't know why they're here. Mediocre indieish band. 6. Meek Mill - Meek Mill goes hard, makes me feel like a thug and that's cool sometimes. 7. Grimes - some more alternative R&B type shit. My favorite genre atm. She's pretty good, not amazing, and kinda cute. 8. Ty Dolla $ign - u sukn me or fukn me or nah? some good shittt 9. Wiz Khalifa - dude fell off for a while but his new stuff is alright. that Furious 7 soundtrack is on point
  4. Every team should make me a sig

  6. I wasn't really sure what to talk about here so I figured I might as well write about the hot topic in the VHL right now. So the playoffs have been pretty exciting, I guess, at least the second round. The first round went how anyone could have expected with the Americans and Express easily getting past their first round opponents. I guess what we learned from that is that the Legion still aren't ready and that maybe they'll never reach expectations, which would really suck considering I'm on the Legion. And then in the European Conference, the Vikings still have time but the Express are also in a position where they basically need to win now after so much playoff disappointment over the past few seasons. So now we have both conference finals headed to game seven. All four teams definitely have the ability to win the cup so this should be interesting to watch. Personally, I think we'll see the Americans go up against the Titans in the finals. New York is honestly just too good and well-rounded while the Meute have holes on defense than can be exploited. On the other side, the Titans and Express are extremely well-matched but I think the slight experience advantage of the Titans will give them the edge. Of course, I'll probably get both predictions wrong and look like an idiot but that's not really my problem, is it?
  7. Toronto Legion End Playoff Drought It was only a matter of time but the Toronto Legion snapped what was the longest active playoff drought in the VHL by grabbing the third and final playoff spot in the North American Conference. Ultimately, this was the result of a red hot finish to the season, winning fourteen of their final fifteen games to amass a total of 86 points, well ahead of the Seattle Bears despite an early-season scare. Unsurprisingly, the team was led by the trio of Tyler Cote, Jerrick Poole, and Sachimo Zoidberg who paced the team in scoring and playing time. Zoidberg led the team in goals for the second consecutive season while Poole has now led the team in assists in each of his first three seasons. The Legion were matched up with the defending champions, the New York Americans, in the first round of the playoffs. While New York was heavily favored, the Legion were determined to put up a good fight. In game one, the Americans got off to an early two goal lead in a display of utter dominance over their comparatively inexperienced opponents. But Tyler Cote would score his first career playoff point and goal midway through the second period - a goal that, very fittingly, was also Sachimo Zoidberg's and Jerrick Poole's first career VHL playoff points. While the Americans responded quickly, the goal seemed to give Toronto new-found life. In a third period dominated by defense, Slaeter Fjorsstrom and Sachimo Zoidberg were able to find the back of the net despite the team only putting five shots on net to force the game into overtime. It didn't take long for Cote to finish New York off, giving the Legion an unexpected 1-0 series lead. Tyler Cote (right) and Sachimo Zoidberg celebrate Toronto's game on overtime win Unfortunately, this early success would not be enough to overcome a stronger opponent. Despite playing more tight games including an overtime thriller in game three, New York would win the next four games to move on while the Legion were sent home early. As was the story all season, the Legion's first line played neck and neck with all opposition with Cote, Poole, and Zoidberg pacing the team with 6, 5, and 5 points respectively in the playoffs. Only Fjorsstrom with two points and Jaime Hill with one also managed to put their names on the scoresheet throughout the series. This drastic difference in performance was just as pronounced in the regular season. Cote, Poole, and Zoidberg had +/- ratings of 53, 52, and 50 which were good enough for 6th, 7th, and 9th in the VHL while the three also led the team in points by a significant margin. Aside from Jaime Hill, who also managed an impressive +51 rating, only Bennett Wahl and Dirk Firkley even managed a positive rating. While it is always nice to have a core group of players that can be relied on to lead a team, the fact that there was such a stark difference between the play of the first and second lines is concerning. Although she has been largely overshadowed by the likes of Toronto's "Big Three", Jaime Hill has provided the team with excellent defensive play This brings up an immediate need for the Legion to address this off-season. While they unquestionably have a solid team, they need to fill out their roster if they plan on contending for the Continental Cup. This off-season is of dire importance for the storied franchise as it will likely decide if they are able to make the next step or if this rebuild marked by a stockpile of Season 40 draft picks will be nothing but a failure. In order to avoid a terrible ending to what could have been something special, the Legion must add an additional impact player at the absolute least. It would be a shame to see the once-hyped franchise remain stuck in a bout of extreme mediocrity.
  8. What's the VHLM? Conner Low (12 points) Xin Xie Xiao (6 points) Jody 3 Moons (12 points) Chris Raymond (4 points) Nicolas Caprivi (3 points) Brick Wahl (14 points)
  9. It's more about the mentality. There's no real right way to go into a two goal lead as opposed to a one goal lead or a three goal lead. Obviously, you'd take a two goal lead over a one goal lead 100% of the time but it's honestly more an expression than anything. But there was some look into the statistical basis behind this a few years ago and something like 40% of two goal leads in the NHL were surrendered, which is pretty crazy if you think about it.
  10. Wonderful game for my fantasy team. Not so great for my real team. :/
  11. Oh man, a two goal lead is the most dangerous lead in hockey
  12. Content: 3/3 - You met the minimum, barely. Overall the content was good and it was an interesting article although you lost some steam at the end. Grammar: 1.75/2 - he will be a very productive player, he has the size and physical tools --> new sentence or semicolon expects me to be as their King --> king should be lowercase here Which only backs up my earlier comments that Merica’s problem is he won’t commit to one area, if you consider that to be a problem, of course, because one-dimensional players are a dime a dozen. --> although this is long, there is no subject and is not a complete sentence First sentence of the last paragraph is way too long Merica is also a leader, despite not being a highly productive player, he has kept his attitude positive and continue to motivate his teammates --> maybe put and "and" before despite. just sounds very awkward Overall it wasn't bad by any means but watch out for using commas to overly extend sentences. Try reading them through and see if it sounds natural. I would have given you full marks but the last paragraph was lacking in content and grammar and felt like a bunch of meaningless words to reach the word count. Appearance: 1/1 - Fine for now but try using a title or something. Will probably take off .25 next time - it just makes it look a lot better. Total: 5.75/6
  13. Content: 3/3 - You easily met the minimum and it was a well-written and interesting article. Should be pretty cool to have the VHLM awards named after VHL and VHLM players now - helps to emphasize the history of the league! Grammar: 2/2 - Great job here, didn't notice anything wrong. Appearance: 1/1 - Looks good, used pictures and headlines that were effective Overall: 6/6
  14. Americans Express Legion Meute
  15. I thought there was a decision made to eliminate TPE earning from fantasy sports that aren't hockey? Regardless, I'd be down even if there was no TPE given.
  16. Content: 3/3 - Met the minimum number of words and overall an interesting story. Just a little hard to follow at points. Grammar: 2/2 - Very good for the most part with some comma issues scattered throughout, didn't detract from the article too much. The last action he'd seen was when his protege, Jax Barnstormer had been a draftee, back when Blades of Steel was trying to murder the Pajodcast Agency's players. --> comma after Jax Barnstormer, I would avoid using the one after draftee Since then Barnstormer had been drafted really late --> comma after then The Agency had decided --> lowercase agency unless it's something I'm not aware of Appearance: 1/1 - Nothing to complain about here Overall: 6/6
  17. VHL This Week Season 42 Edition 3 Welcome to the third edition of Season 42's VHL This Week! The regular season is more than halfway in the books and there's still plenty of competition right now with only a few points separating playoff teams from the lottery teams. As is natural at this point in the season, the league has been relatively quiet but look for that to change with the trade deadline looming quickly ahead. Announcements Make sure to check out Edition 232 of the VHL Magazine! The Season 41 player card set has been released - take a look at your player page to see yours! Game Discussion This week we'll take a look at a matchup between two North American Conference foes. This was an exciting one between the Americans and Bears that New York very well may have taken too lightly, at least initially. Only eighteen seconds into the game, A.C. Savage scored the first goal of the game after putting away his own rebound to give his Bears an early one goal lead. While the Americans seemed to wake up after the early deficit, Seattle didn't let up and after going on the powerplay, Phil Villeneuve picked up his second assist on Brady Stropko's 29th goal of the season to give the Bears a two goal lead with eight minutes to go in the period. Called the worst lead in hockey for a reason, though, it took just a minute and a half for a Christopher Klose shot find its way past Niklaus Mikaelson to cut the Americans' deficit in half. Gaining momentum from the goal, New York pushed hard and began to control the game, keeping the puck in the Seattle zone. Within four minutes of their first goal, star center Tom Slaughter tied the game up at two before heading into the first intermission. The second period was played far tighter than the first, with both teams doing everything in their power to limit their opponents' scoring changes. But it did not take long, however, for the Americans to take the 3-2 lead. Just over six minutes into the period, Conner Low pick up his 32nd goal of the season to put his team ahead, hopefully for good. The defensive battle continued as the two teams would be held off the scoreboard for the remainder of the period, entering the third with the Americans up by one. While New York did a solid job of keeping Seattle in check, Jakub Rhinehart picked up a shot blocked by the Americans and buried it home to tie the game about halfway through the final frame of regulation. Despite strong chances, neither team could finish the game off in regulation. As the game had been played since the second period, neither team was willing to give up anything in overtime, with a total of just three shots before the buzzer sounded for the shootout. After Brady Stropko was stopped by Brick Wahl with the first penalty shot of the game, four straight goals were scored before Niklaus Mikaelson shut down Tom Slaughter to force sudden death. The win was clinched by New York defenseman Matt Bentley, who scored in the first sudden death round. 18. There has been a call to fire the schedulemakers in the VHL due to Season 42's ridiculous scheduling. In an odd turn of events, it appears they simply scheduled in blocks, pitting certain teams against each other for the first half of the season and leaving the other teams to the second half of the season. This is a sign of laziness and has led to those inside and those outside the VHL wondering what is even going on and why this issue has barely been discussed. Just as an example, the Meute hold the league's best record with a .762 point percentage yet have played the only other two teams with a point percentage over .600, the Americans and Titans, just two and three times, respectively. In fact, it wasn't even until their 32nd game that they played the Titans for the first time and not until their 40th that they first played their conference rival New York Americans. It makes no sense why the league would opt for such an imbalanced schedule. The only real conclusion is that it's the result of a change in league management that failed to recognize what is best for the league. While they have managed to get by so far relatively unscathed, additional issues and/or a failure to produce a more sensible schedule next season reportedly could lead to the VHL's first ever lockout, something the commissioners would be very wise to prevent.
  19. I mean Zoidberg looks a bit like a dinosaur anyways
  20. Toronto's Season 40 Trio Fulfilling Potential Back in the Season 39 off-season, Toronto Legion General Manager Edgar made a series of moves that landed the team the third, fourth, and fifth overall selections in the Season 40 Entry Draft. As bold a move as it was, it also was universally praised, even after selecting two first generation players with the three picks. Center Tyler Cote, defenseman Jerrick Poole, and right wing Sachimo Zoidberg were the chosen ones to lead the storied Toronto Legion franchise back to dominance. Two and a half seasons later, the team has yet to make the playoffs but is is certainly not due to a lack of effort from the trio of Season 40 draftees. All three have developed at a tremendous rate and have quickly become some of the best players in the VHL. Although Cote and Poole went directly to the VHL in Season 40, it is Zoidberg, who was a rookie last season, who has received the most attention. After a dominant Season 40 in the VHLM in which he led the league with an incredible 190 points as was named MVP, he burst onto the VHL scene in Season 41 with 111 points and the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy as the league's top rookie. Sachimo Zoidberg's scoring totals also paced the Legion, who, at one point late in the season, appeared to have a strong shot at making the playoffs. Following the season, Zoidberg made further headlines as he inked a five-year extension with the Legion, making it likely that he could retire with the team. Sachimo Zoidberg has garnered plenty of attention thus far in his young career. Tyler Cote and Jerrick Poole, although arriving in Toronto a season earlier, have gone relatively overlooked when compared to Zoidberg. Despite this fact, they have been integral parts of the Legion since joining the team, both playing strong two-way, hard-hitting hockey since their rookie seasons. Cote has been a fixture atop the hitting charts, reliably being extremely difficult to play against as he beats his opponents with physical play and natural offensive talent. Poole, on the other hand, has established himself as a stout defensive player who is rarely found out of position while also having a knack for getting the offense going, leading the Legion in assists in each season he's been in the VHL. This season, as Toronto has begun to fill out their roster with a more complete team, Cote and Poole's physical play has taken a noticeable dip with the team's drastic increase in puck possession. Yet the two, along with Zoidberg, are truly becoming the leaders of this franchise. While the Legion have a more well-rounded roster, their big three has taken it upon themselves to make up for areas where the team may still be lacking, not only pacing the team in points and being among the best in the league at their respective positions but ensuring that when they're on the ice, they are the better team. Despite the Legion's goal differential of just six over the course of the season, Cote is a +28, Poole a +26, and Zoidberg at +25, helping the Legion to a 9-1 record over their past ten games. Jerrick Poole has led the Legion in assists since his Season 40 arrival. It is clear that Toronto made the right choices with their three first round selections in the Season 40 Entry Draft but one has to wonder if the three will be enough to help the team achieve its Continental Cup dreams. While they added Slaeter Fjorsstrom, Bennett Wahl, and Kimmo Salo in the off-season and have a solid supporting cast, their rebuild simply has not picked up the steam many expected after their Season 40 haul. Season 41 first round selection Fedir Okranitz does not appear to be the franchise goaltender the Legion were hoping for and with a number of teams including the Cologne Express, Seattle Bears, Stockholm Vikings, and HC Davos Dynamo at similar points in their rebuilds, there is a long road ahead for the team. The most important thing they must do, though, is ensure that the trio of Cote, Poole, and Zoidberg's primes aren't wasted in a bout of mediocrity over the next few seasons.
  21. Pretty sure if you have a smart phone you can get it on the kindle app.
  22. With Niklaus Mikaelson's recent announcement about the possibility of testing free agency, this off-season could be just as exciting as last with players from the Season 40 draft class eligible to become unrestricted free agents. One of the biggest stories is Toronto Legion defenseman Jerrick Poole. He has proven to be worthy of his draft position in such a talent-filled draft but while teammates and fellow first round selections Tyler Cote and Sachimo Zoidberg have inked extensions with the Legion, Poole has remain noncommittal despite reportedly engaging in talks with Legion management on multiple occasions. Only in his third season, Poole has established himself as one of the league's best defensemen and certainly the type of player a team can build around. He has averaged a point per game over his career all while playing a sound, physical, defensive game. His testing free agency would be devastating to the Legion, who just this off-season lost Devin Sundberg, and very well could force the team into another rebuild. But as Poole has maintained again and again, his mind is far from set and an announcement will not come until the conclusion of Toronto's season.
