Rayzor_7 got a reaction from jacobcarson877 in Torbjorn etc
Halvar Torbjron has been doing very little to help Calgary as they try to climb out of their first round deficit, but with that said he' s also not doing too much harm. He is a team worst -3 in the playoffs but has managed 7 hits and taken zero penalties in 129 minutes played. Torbjorn is playing low event hockey which is ideal but needs to step it up if he wants to help Calgary get out of this slump and extend their run into the deep end.
Calgary managed to split the first two games on the road which should've been ideal, but dropped both games at home including an OT loss in game four to put them down 3-1. The Wranglers are showing signs of life at least as the demolished Vancouver at home 5-1 outshooting them 51-21 and going 3 for 5 on the power play while holding Vancouver to 0 for 5.

I am terrible at writing intros to this kind of thing, so I’m just going to cut to the chase: we are contracting the VHLE back to 6 teams.

As I’m sure a lot of you know, there has been a worrying trend of thin rosters in the VHLE, and the numbers reflect that we have a few too many roster spots for players to cover them. We anticipate that a large bounceback in the form of the sizable S90 class of recreates (when compared to S89 at least) should help breathe some life back into the locker rooms. However, we are also helping it along with contraction. After these changes, on average, we are anticipating just shy of two full lines of active players per team.

The unfortunate teams that will be heading into the ether are the Geneva Rush and the Istanbul Red Wolves. There was never going to be an easy decision here, but between weak branding, short history, and tangential connections to local terrorist groups, these two franchises will not be in the VHLE for S90 and moving forward. I know that not everyone will be happy, but there was no way to do this without pain somewhere along the line.

However, much like the VHL in S58, we had a bit of a mismatch in terms of the rosters that make sense to remove and the franchises that make sense to remove. To that end, we are effectively full swapping roster players, prospects, and draft picks from Istanbul and Geneva to Stockholm and Vasteras, respectively. The current roster players and prospects on Stockholm and Vasteras will be released and available as free agents this off-season. The current draft picks owned by Stockholm and Vasteras will be passed or deleted as required.

Note: compensatory picks will be required in S91 to make this work, we will make sure everyone is made whole. The actual position of these compensatory picks is to be determined.

We were lucky enough to not actually need to fire anyone as GM to make this work! There has been some juggling behind the scenes, but here’s how everything shakes out:
    - JB123 steps down following an absurdly strong run in Oslo
    - Gaming Ringleader shifts over to GM Oslo
    - Z follows his roster to Vasteras and takes over there
    - Masu steps down from Istanbul in the hopes of pursuing other opportunities
    - Twists keeps Stockholm and inherits Istanbul’s roster

That’s all for the actual contraction side of things. If you have any particular comments, questions, or concerns, please reach out to thad or I directly. My DMs are always open.

Moving on to a couple of rule changes.

    INACTIVE FREE AGENTS

Starting this off-season, teams will only be able to add 2 inactive free agents to their roster. This does not apply to players that go inactive mid-season or during their first three years post-draft, it only applies to the players that would have gone through the (now defunct) waivers system.

Since we will only have 12 players to hand out this way each season, we will also be introducing a mini-draft, run on Discord or the forums, to allocate these players in the fairest manner possible. This draft will consist of two rounds, the first of which will be a reverse of the regular season standings while the second snakes that (i.e., equal to the regular season standings). Our current plan for this is to do rolling 12-hour clocks similar to VHFL, but we can adjust that on the fly as required. Teams are obviously allowed to pass on their pick if they do not see value in claiming an inactive free agent.

We’re hoping that reducing the crowd of those high TPA inactive free agents to maximum 2 per team will increase engagement for the players who remain active by freeing up more ice time, and by extension, delivering better stat lines.

We will be monitoring inactive free agents and their necessity over the next few seasons and will hopefully be able to remove them entirely at some point.

    PLAYOFF FORMAT

In our 8-team VHLE as it stands now, 5 teams make the playoffs, with a 4-5 wildcard round before semi-finals.

We don’t feel that a competitive league should have 5 of 6 teams making playoffs, so we are transitioning back to a 4 team playoff, with the matchups simply being 1-4 and 2-3. Both semi-finals and finals will remain best of 7. Tiebreakers remain unchanged. Games will be simmed 1 per day to keep as close as possible to in line with the VHL and VHLM playoff schedule.

TL;DR - Geneva and Istanbul branding deleted. Those rosters move to Stockholm and Vasteras. Current Stockholm and Vasteras rosters released. VHLE moves forward with 6 teams. Some rule changes regarding inactive FAs and playoff format to accommodate the contraction.

A possible record for The Frenchman - Is 7 points in a single playoff game a record?

The Riga Reign finally were able to skip the wildcard round and a though matchup against the HC Davos Dynamo would follow. But in the first game the Reign came out all guns blazing, Sadie St Louis scored 5 points, but there was one guy who actually was involved with all of the goals scored by the Reign. It was The Frenchman who had 7 assists this game.
So the question naturally arises - is this a vhl record? Lets try and have a look at the 7 goal playoff games:

    Season 20: Legion - Dynamo - 7-2 (5 points)
    Season 22: Dynamo - Titans - 5-7 (4 points)

    Season 42: Meute - Express - 2-7 (3 points)
    Season 46: Wranglers - Legion - 8-0 (6 points - 4 goals / 2 assists for Milos Denis and 2 goals / 4 assists for Tyler Cote)

So is it a record? Perhaps, but when I checked the Season 89 schedule, i noticed the wildcard round is missing. So I honestly do not now.  I hope it is, but considering the amount of 6 time scorers, i wouldn't be surprised I somehow missed something.  But we also were missing the first twenty seasons in the portal, so also there information is missing to give a 100% answer to this.

Perhaps some people can find the true answer for this question.

I would point an eye towards @Victor here and hope he knows the answer to this.

Well the short answer is really not much. That said @failed the king has been officially promoted to Assistant General Manager in part thanks to some prodding from Helsinki's team captain @Ricer13. Welcome to the big leagues to him!
Helsinki will officially select in the top two of a very strong draft and I'm very excited for that even if it's not where we want to be. We have the assets to turn things around if the market is as rumored this offseason.
Chip Stone has been a great player for us putting up Point per game pace and 35 goals, Dixon also well up there with 31 goals. Our problem is depth scoring and depth strength in general which we plan to solve in due time. If Probert and Dixon could stay out of the box that might help too.

Oh and Torbjorn has been doing better on Calgary, same points pace but PPG's and a +21 instead of a -24

Managing this team has been a treat all the way from working with league management on the expansion concept way back at the start of the pandemic to winning a championship in season 76, and all the ups and downs before and since then.

Overall, I think the Chicago Phoenix have been a success. While my activity has been called into question throughout my tenure, some as a bit of an inside joke, others in a more assholeish way, I think many of my longer-term players will agree that I have been dedicated to trying to build a winner here in Chicago, and we have managed to make the playoffs in 12 of our 16 seasons since we came into the league. While it would have been nice to have been able to have brought more than one cup to Chicago the playoffs are a fickle beast and while we have been close, I was never able to secure one with this second core.

Now to thank some specific people.

@solas – my first ever draft pick with Chicago and a career player for the Phoenix. Camus was a legend and you are among my favourite members here
@fishy – while our time together got off to a rocky start when I drafted Matty Socks without scouting, I think it ended up being a fun adventure with that first core
@Blazzer – my first AGM and another career long Chicago Phoenix player – I know you hated how Lee Xin played but I hope our conversations in the locker room and early morning gen chat made your early time in the league enjoyable
@Quik – Thanks for trusting me with Christian Mingle and sticking out your career in Chicago – glad we could get a cup out of it – hope all is well
@MubbleFubbles – Thank you for spending as long as you did in Chicago. Our chats on player builds and roster construction were always very enjoyable and I wish you all the best with this player and any in the future
@Shindigs – I hope everything is good with you – we talked a ton while you were here and I am sad we could not win a cup together, but I learned a lot from you on new builds with the hybrid attributes. Hope to see you around again soon!
@fromtheinside – So glad you chose to spend your career in Chicago with Sundin. Once again sad we couldn’t win a cup together but I hope I provided you with a fun place to play out your career
@Subject056 - I know you are a fairly new member of the Phoenix and we haven't talked a ton but whichever member gets to take over as a general manager for the Phoenix has a great member and player to build around as their cornerstone. I hope you can carry Chicago back to glory in the near future!

To the plethora of other players who have played in the red and orange since our inception I would like to thank each and every one of you for your time here, whether you got here through trade, free agency, the draft or other means. I hope I gave you a locker room and team where you could have fun while I tried to build a winning team with a good enviroment.

Outside of that I would like to thank all the other general managers who put up with me in my role. I have issues responding to DMs, as has been brought up a few times, but that was never anything personal. That issue extends to my personal and work life as well and is something I am trying to work on. I truly did enjoy talking to most of you and you made the role a fun one to work in.

I hope to stick around the VHL in some capacity as I have been here on and off since its creation sixteen seasons ago but it is time for me to hand the reins over to someone who can dedicate the time needed to build Chicago back into a championship caliber team.

tl;dr it is time for me to admit I am inactive and I’m going to retire

Well two steps forward and three steps back is the title of this season and how things have gone. Sometimes shit just goes wrong and you gotta roll with the punches. We sent Maellard away at the TDL and have accepted that the season isn't going to go the way we want. Helsinki has shifted focus to next season with a lot of picks to work with and a core that's locked up for the long run so the focus is on getting good for them.
In other Helsinki Titans news, @failed the king has been hired on to the team as the Assistant to the General Manager to replace Sam who stepped away for a GM role elsewhere. First time having a newer user as the hired hand but happy to help train up a potential future GM

    @kirbithan

In our 3rd installment of our “Building a Contender” series we’ll be looking at a blockbuster trade which saw all three teams benefit greatly. This is the S84 blockbuster trade between Seattle, Prague and London. All three of these teams saw a lot of success as the result of this trade and have all made the finals since it took place!

This rather straight forward 3-way trade quickly evolved into this:

Just to provide some context on the above trade tree, here is what each colour means; Green = Still on team and playing; Light Blue = Prospect for team; Orange = Played and retired with team; Yellow = Played and was traded. Also in this case to keep things a bit more organized, boxes are around each team’s return for all of the trades.

     SEATTLE BEARS

Starting off with Seattle, who acquired Nils Godlander @Moon in the initial trade. Godlander would play in 144 games over 2 seasons with Seattle, and put up decent points in that stretch with 68 goals and 58 assists for a total of 126 points! Following a tough end to S85 which saw the Bears being eliminated in 4 games in the wildcard round, GM Blake Campbell @Banackock made a trade sending Godlander along with Mikhail Kovalchuk and a S87 2nd to Prague for Babushka @BrutalBoost, Jeff Beffy @Strider, and a S86 1st.

Jeff Buffy would never play for Seattle and would be traded for a 4th where Seattle would draft Viktor Hasek @StackThePads, who wouldn’t pan out for Seattle.

With the S86 1st (2nd overall), Seattle would select Yaroslav Bogatyrev @Bojovnik, who currently plays for the team and has played in 272 games to date producing 91 goals and 129 assists for a total of 220 points in that stretch. Bogatyrev looks to be a key player in Seattle for sometime to come!

Babushka on the other hand would play for Seattle putting up 4 points in 14 games prior to being traded along with the S87 LAS 1st, and S88 SEA 2nd for Ryuji Sakamoto @der meister. Sakamoto would play for Seattle for the better part of two seasons playing a total of 130 games where they would produce a total of 92 points, most importantly Sakamoto would be clutch for Seattle in the S87 playoffs where they produced 17 points in 16 games played! Following the S87 playoffs, Sakamoto would be traded to D.C. in exchange for Mikhail Kovalchuk.

Now in his 2nd stint with Seattle, Kovalchuk would have a decent season with 59 points in 72 games and another 17 points in 19 games on route to the Continental Cup finals, where Seattle would fall just short. This past offseason Kovalchuk was traded again, this time to Warsaw in exchange for a S91 2nd.

     PRAGUE PHANTOMS

Now moving onto Prague who played hot-potato with draft picks for a while. In the initial trade, Prague acquired the S84 LDN 2nd, which they would trade to Seattle for the S84 SEA and WAR 2nd, the latter of which Prague would use to select Damian Steele @73MPL4R, who has yet to play a VHL game and would not be traded prior to being a UFA. The S84 SEA 2nd would be used by prague to select Ben McLaughlin @Ben mclaughlin who would be traded to Malmo before playing for Prague along with half of Prague’s roster, the S88 PRG 1st, S88 VAN 2nd, and S88 PRG 3rd in exchange for Dabnad Shaw @Dabnad, the S88 LDN 1st, and S88 MAL 2nd, all of which would be traded prior to playing for Prague.

Dabnad Shaw was traded to Los Angeles for the S88 LAS 2nd. That draft pick would be traded as well with another 2nd round pick to London in exchange for an earlier 2nd round pick which would be used to select Olivier Gauthier @fonziGG, who is currently a prospect in Prague’s system and has put up very good numbers in the VHLE so far this season.

The S88 LDN 1st would be used to select Jacob Stone @scoop, who was promptly traded due to a lack of cap space. Stone would be traded to Malmo for Moritz Stauffer @GoodLeftUndone. To date Stauffer has done very well for a young defensemen with a total of 9 goals and 53 assists for a total of 62 points in 128 games played for the Prague Phantoms.

Prague would also trade the S88 MAL 2nd would also be traded prior to being used by Prague as they would move the pick with a S89 3rd to Toronto for a earlier S88 2nd where they would select BjorkaBjorn BjornaBjorkson @JardyB10, who appears to be a career VHLE defensmen, however, should Prague desperately need a cheap defensemen they would be a great fit at a 1.5 million dollar cap hit.

Now moving onto London who was the busiest of all the teams following this trade having made several more major trades, despite not trading three of the four pieces they received initially. First off, Jack Hextall @Jack Feriancek would play for London for three seasons in which they would score 37 goals and add 83 assists for a total of 120 points in 216 games played before they would leave in free agency and sign in Los Angeles. Tynan Slyvester @diamond_ace on the other hand would play in London for their final two seasons prior to retiring where they would score 20 goals and pick up 63 assists for a total of 83 points in 144 games to end their career. Lastly, with the S85 SEA 2nd, London would select Johnny Kalamazoo @KzooJohn who looks to be a career VHLE player at this point.

The lone piece that London would trade from the initial trade was the S84 CGY 1st, which they would trade to Warsaw in exchange for the S84 WAR 1st and S86 WAR 2nd. With the S84 WAR 1st London would select Molly the Cat @JCarson, who is still with the team this season and has played an integral role in their recent success having produced 334 points in 343 career games. Additionally, they had 29 points in 23 games on route to winning the S88 Continental Cup!

The S86 WAR 2nd would be traded back to Warsaw in S85 along with Johnny Xavier @Johnny_HX and the S87 LDN 4th. Going back the other way was the S85 WAR 1st and the S86 WAR 3rd, both of which would be traded.

The S85 WAR 1st was traded with the S85 LDN 1st to Calgary in exchange for the S85 LAS and CGY 1st round picks. With the 5th overall selection (CGY pick) in the S85 draft London selected Astro Singh @8Ovechkin8 who is currently a free agent and only played one season with London where they had 10 points. With the 10th overall pick (LAS pick) London struck gold as they selected franchise goaltender Jesse Teno @aimkin! To date Teno has a 99-66-21 record and a 0.926 SV%. More importantly Teno won the S88 Kanou Trophy as they put up a 15-6-2 record and a insane 0.949 SV% during the S88 playoffs!

Going back to the S86 WAR 3rd that was acquired in the Johnny Xavier trade, London would trade the pick with a S86 4th to Toronto for a S87 3rd and S88 4th where they would select Nick Sansoe @Tipskid97 and Tomas Zubras @Zuby respectively. The former of which is still in London’s prospect pool and could potentially make their VHL debut in S90.

Retrospectively, all three teams benefitted from the initial trade as each of them gained or were able to later on that would help them on their way to the finals. But, with how Jesse Teno stole the S88 playoffs, it’s very hard to ignore the amazing work by @Dil and @jacobcarson877 to finally get London a cup!

Hello hello!! After two and a half seasons off I am back for a third go around in the VHL. For anyone not familiar with my username my previous players where goalie Jaxx Hextall who played for Halifax and Minnesota in the M, winning a cup with the latter, and spent his entire career with the Toronto Legion during his time in the top league. Jonathan Ori was my second player, he play for Minnesota in the M in which they had a run to the finals before moving up, he'd spend most of his career with Helsinki but would make stops in Seattle and D.C. Now I look to create a new story, a new career once again. I've mentioned in previous posts how named my last players, so what about my newest player, Toby Kadachi? Well it's simple for anyone who's played the more recent Monster Hunter games, he's one of the "monsters" you can fight. I always found the name really fun to say, probably annoyed some friends with how often I said it. The only detail to note here is I did change the spelling of Toby, in Monster Hunter the actual spelling of it is Tobi but I decided to change it, because why not? People will still get the reference.

For this third go around a goal of mine is to definitely take things easier, I spent most of Hextall's career and all of Ori's career max capping and it definitely wore me out. definitely a part of the reason I took as much time off as I did, I didn't feel like one season would suffice. Not to mention with longer careers now it's even harder to keep that up. My goal in terms of TPE is to at least hit 1000 but I don't know if I'll be hitting 1500 or 2000 as there are now three players who have. I'd love to join that 2K club but I just don't think I have it in me. Happy to see Ori is still in top 15, he's fallen down to 11th now but should still be up there for a long time to come, Hextall has been off that list for some time now of course, 1500 TPE players are completely wiped off of there now. Another reason why I waited as long as I did to re-join was to come back right around the time I first joined 20 seasons ago, yes I first played in season 69, coming in a little over halfway through the season. Now that I know the VHL better though I made the choice to wait till after to trade deadline so I'd be a S91 draftee and dodge the stacked S90 draft. (though I may have been told that the S91 draft is pretty stacked to, we'll see with time). Well I think that's enough for this MS right? I plan to be using the welfare button a lot more for Kadachi's career and just make I'm getting the other stuff done, like pressers, trivia, articles that kind of stuff. I will be working on some VSN stuff for sure as they have kept the door open for me, thank you so much!! I'll see you guys on the ice!!

    Hi All,

With @samx stepping down to be a GM, Helsinki Management has an opening once again.

This obviously means I'm looking for a new AGM
I'll be looking for someone who can help out with pressers, draft scouting and interviews, trade knowledge, lines and locker room presence.
