  1. Early Years and Hockey Foundation Bobby Digital is one of hockey's most talked about prospects. An enigma that has been lauded by virtually every sports media outlet over the past several years. The story of one of the VHL's next superstars begins in Kiev, Ukraine. Igor and Marina Digital welcomed their first son into the world in October of 1991. The young Robertoshev, affectionately known as Bobby, was a massive child who weighed over 11 lbs at birth. He was destined for athletics as his father, Igor, was an avid sportsman in his own right, representing Ukraine in the 1972 winter Olympic games as a cross-country skier. The Digital family relocated to Staten Island, USA in 1994 as Igor needed to find work after his shoe-repair business went under. The USA would be the bedrock on which the foundation of Bobby Digital's hockey career was built. The youngster had learned to skate shortly after learning to walk, and the youth hockey system in New York was recently bolstered by the introduction of their first professional hockey team, the New York Americans. The first few seasons of his junior hockey career were spent as a winter, where Digital quickly became one of the most talked about young players on the east coast of the USA. His offensive talent was evident, and his natural size and strength allowed him to dominate his age group, which resulted in him regularly playing in age brackets 2-3 years his senior. Bobby Digital circa 2007 Entangled by the Streets Despite a promising future in hockey, Digital was not one to obey authority figures, and slowly became entangled in the streets of New York. Throughout his school career, Bobby would often be suspended for causing trouble at school, whether it was fighting other kids or refusing to acknowledge the authority of his teachers, Bobby was an unruly youth to say the least. As he entered high school, Digital began hanging out with neighbourhood street gangs and eventually started trafficking the street drug crack cocaine. Despite doing hand-to-hand drug deals, Bobby soon found his niche in the narcotics game as a chef. At the height of his illegally business, Bobby would be known to “cook” product for 6-8 hours per day. His technique with whisking and turning the cocaine on the stove resulted in a superior crack rock result which had fiends from all across New York seeking his specific brand of product, known on the street as 'BobbyRock'. It seemed as though Digital may have been approaching a destiny that consisted of either a jail cell, or a grave, as he dropped out of high school at the age of 16, his father intervened. Igor Digital refused to allow his son to fall to the dark side of the streets, and promised him that he would do everything in his power to help his son make a better life for himself, not through drugs, but through the sport of Hockey. Digital found himself entangled in the street drug scene of Staten Island, NY In 2007, Igor moved the Digital family out of the inner-city Staten Island neighbourhood they had called home for the past decade. After saving up money from his shoe repair business, the family relocated to rural Connecticut. With the allure of the streets hundreds of miles away, Digital was forced to focus his energy on the sport he had played growing up. He re-entered high school and dedicated himself to earning his diploma while training to improve his game on the ice. He was named the captain of the Connecticut Dodgers in the AAA midget league. There, he found friendship in a German exchange student who helped Digital both on-and-off the ice, with his hockey skills and his studies. In 2009, at the age of 19, Bobby Digital graduated high school and declared himself immediately eligible for the VHLM draft. He spent the preceding off-season in Minnesota, training with the US National developmental program, where numerous VHLM and VHL scouts were given a first-hand viewing of his size and skill. It is here at the US Developmental program that Digital was first moved from forward to defence after famous hockey guru Sepp Reiter felt that Digital's hockey skill set was much better suited on the defensive end. It was a stroke of genius, as Bobby immediately blossomed as a strong shut-down defenceman who could also move the puck with pinpoint accuracy. After moving to defence, Digital's draft stock spiked and the hype that followed set him on the trajectory for VHL super stardom. Rise of a Superstar Season 48 began Digital's professional career as he was drafted to the VHLM 2nd overall by the Oslo Storm. He quickly became a household name in European hockey, and found himself amongst the most sought-after prospects in the S49 VHL entry draft. It was at this draft that Digital was selected 3rd overall by HC Davos Dynamo, but after spending the prior year in Europe, Digital was not happy with his fate, and under the direction from his player representation, the young defender forced his way out of HC Davos before playing a single game for them. His destination? The same city which molded Digital into the tough, persistent, and ruthless player that he is now known to be. Digital was traded from HC Davos to his hometown New York Americans for a package of three draft picks along with two prospects. Digital was overjoyed at the thought of representing the team he had supported while growing up in Staten Island, and further committed himself to his training and development. He immediately slotted into the team in Season 49 as a top-6 defenceman and contributed 25 points and a +42 rating in his rookie season. Bobby Digital in his rookie season with the New York Americans Despite a rocky tenure in his sophomore and junior years with the Americans, the club looks set to return to it's usual place as a North American powerhouse. Digital was named team captain in season 51, and the front office of the Americans has made several moves to bolster the roster with other young blue-chip prospects. The future is bright for Bobby Digital and the New York Americans, and the Ukraine-born, New York raised street smart bully is well on his way to one day lifting the Continental Cup. 1017 words
