  1. I think this will be the last loss of our slump.
  2. The hounds are coming back up the ranks
  3. You can't complain about a 1st Period Hat Trick.
  4. 1. It's just a phase it's a long season and every team has slumps and hot streaks. I would rather take our slump now then coming up to playoffs. Also I know how hard the team is working and this slump shouldn't last much longer. 2. Just "Yeet" the whole team for some low round draft picks. 3. Rayz Funk was practising his slashing technique on THE HOUND. I think he was just trying to injure him so he couldn't take away any of his ice time. 4. We have a great core which are placed high in the overall standings and the young guns are starting to really improve. We should not be taken lightly. 5. Houston is nice, it's warm reminds me a bit of home and the space centre is a cool tour. 6. I don't think it really increases the conversation in game threads. I think that a random game should be chosen and players do a post game interview for that game then one player is chosen per week. This should make the post game threads more interactive and less spammy.
  5. Really strong 1st period but we slacked off. Need to play the full 60 minutes
  6. Mississauga vs Halifax rivalry brewing? By Steven Brockman In the next two games in the VLM for the Mississauga Hounds are up against the Halifax 21st, these two teams aren't strangers to each other with the past 3 out of 5 games being played between the two of them. The results of these games have all been 5 - 4, with Halifax getting the advantage in two both in the shootout. With all the games being extremely close and the fact that there have been so many games between the two teams recently, there is a lot of rivalry between the two clubs. This appears to be building game by game. To make matters worse the teams have been trading places on the ladder between 5th and 6th place. In a recent press conference with the Mississauga Hounds player Berocka Sundqvist had this to say about teams to watch out for. "I think we are going to have a rough rivalry with Halifax, every game has been close with them and we have been battling for 5th spot for a while." There will be a lot of eyes on the next two games to see who comes out on top.
  7. Thank you for the tips @Motzaburger, I tried to do the cut out with Gimp and was the first time using it, I know I need to work on my graphic skills.
  8. Need to tighten up the PK and we should get the results
  9. 1. I haven't had to much interaction outside the club as I am trying to work on my game and improve as much as I can. 2. I think Cody Smith will be quite a high pick, tied second in points and top in goals, or Hulk Hogan as he is top in points, it depends whether the team needs a D-Man or a forward as who gets picked first. 3. No Hulk is great with the puck, he can put himself in open space or ha drags the defence to him which can leave a forward open. He deserves to be where he is. 4. I think the top four have a great chemistry and that is why they are all up there, they know where each other is on the ice and it shows with the points. I have tried to chip in where ever I can. 5. I'm satisfied where I am, it eased the nerves when I scored my first goal, but I just need to keep working. 6. I think we are going to have a rough rivalry with Halifax, every game has been close with them and we have been battling for 5th spot for a while.
  10. Young Aussie breaks into VHLM By Steven Brockman Late this afternoon 21-year-old Australian time, Berocka Sundqvist completed the VHLM dream by scoring his first goal. It happened in the 17th minute of the first period of the game between Sundqvist’s Mississauga Hounds against the Houston Bulls. Sundqvist won the face-off in the neutral zone against Houston’s Zeno Miniti, for the restart after Dan Gles scored for the Hounds. The puck landed with team mate Hulk Hogan. Hogan skated the puck into the offensive zone who passed to Cody Smith, Smith took a shoot and missed the net, Sundqvist picked up the rebound and put the puck past the Houston goaltender Nicklaus Becker. Sundqvist’s goal was one of eight in the game as the Hounds beat the Bulls 6 - 2 This all happened in Sundqvist’s 16th game for the Hounds after being picked up on a rookie contract as a free agent. The Hounds are currently sitting in 6th in the VHLM with a record of 9-7-0. We will have an upcoming interview with Sundqvist to talk to him about his opening weeks in the VHLM.
  11. A Partnership Analysis of the Hounds By Jimmy Statistician Introduction: So as of writing this article the Mississauga Hounds have played 15 games in the VHLM and are currently 8-7-0. I thought it would be a good time to investigate into the partnerships that have arisen so far during these games. I have completed a partnership analysis of all the 51 goals scored by the Hounds during the 15 games so far. When a player assists on a goal the partnership between the player with the assist and the player with the goal have their partnership score increases by one. Process: Each game log was reviewed, and every goal and assist were entered into a table with the goal scorer on the x axis and the player with the assist on the y axis. When all the goals were accounted for the total between two players was then calculated. (Table One) Table One shows how the results were inputted. It can be seen for example that on the goals that Cody Smith has scored Callum MacElroy has assisted on five. To get the totals that are in Table Two the amounts from both sides are added up to use Cody Smith and Callum MacElroy as examples the five assists from Callum MacElroy on Cody Smith’s goals and the 2 assists from Cody Smith on Callum MacElroy’s goals are added and a total of 7 is their partnership score. Also note that both primary and secondary assists were given the same value, this included goals that were scored with only a primary assist. Results: Once the results were tallied up it was found that the highest scoring partnership was Callum MacElroy and Hulk Hogan, joining together to put on 13 points, this was then followed by Cody Smith and Hulk Hogan putting on 8 points, and finally Cody Smith and Callum MacElroy in third with 7 points. This can then be assumed that having these three players on the ice will give you the best chance of scoring. Dan Gles appears in the tied 4th spot twice once with Cody Smith and the other with Chett Bandy both on 5 points. You would then assume as Cody, Callum, Dan and Hulk all play different positions that giving them the most icetime would be extremely beneficial. One interesting result from this analysis was that Razy Funk the Goalie for the hounds has two assists already this season with both of those being scored by Callum MacElroy, there must be some chemistry between those two. Limitations of the Model: There are some limitations to the analysis, the first one would be ice time, this hasn’t been adjusted for so the higher scorers could be the ones getting more ice time. A more detailed analysis would need to be implemented to account for the ice time. Another limitation of the analysis would be the lines, as players that are on the same lines as each other are more likely to score together. This is because they are less likely to spend ice time with people in other lines. Appendix: Player 1 Player 2 Total Callum MacElroy Hulk Hogan 13 Cody Smith Hulk Hogan 8 Cody Smith Callum MacElroy 7 Cody Smith Dan Gles 5 Dan Gles Chett Bandy 5 Cody Smith Scott Greene 4 Dan Gles Scott Greene 4 Cody Smith Alexander Shaw 3 Cody Smith Khalabib Stiopic 3 Callum MacElroy Alexander Shaw 3 Dan Gles Jacob Rogers 3 Dan Gles Richard Tremblay 3 Hulk Hogan Chett Bandy 3 Cody Smith Berocka Sundqvist 2 Callum MacElroy Dan Gles 2 Callum MacElroy Chett Bandy 2 Callum MacElroy Scott Greene 2 Callum MacElroy Rayz Funk 2 Chett Bandy Khalabib Stiopic 2 Cody Smith Chett Bandy 1 Cody Smith Daman Veyalon 1 Callum MacElroy Khalabib Stiopic 1 Dan Gles Berocka Sundqvist 1 Dan Gles Noah Hanley 1 Hulk Hogan Alexander Shaw 1 Hulk Hogan Richard Tremblay 1 Hulk Hogan Noah Hanley 1 Chett Bandy Jacob Rogers 1 Chett Bandy Noah Hanley 1 Khalabib Stiopic Scott Greene 1 (Table Two)
  12. Name: Berocka Sundqvist Age: 21 Position: Left Wing Height: 6'3'' Weight: 200 lbs Date of Birth: 23rd November 1997 Place of Birth: Queensland, Australia Nationality: Australian Current Team: Mississauga Hounds Overview Berocka’s upcoming in Australia has created a different sort of player than what you would see growing up in a country that has a bigger following for the sport. With his exceptional skill and the fact that he has mostly played around people a fair bit older than him it has produced quite an individual. He has previous experience in Australian Rules football which lead him to be a bit more physical and not afraid to take a hit, and Cricket which greatly increased his hand-eye co-ordination. With being considerably a better player than not only his competition but also his own team this has led Berocka to become a bit of a one-man team sometimes. Strengths Shooting Berocka has always had a love for scoring goals, this started with his early sporting career in both Australian Rules Football and Cricket he loved being the hero of the team. With this love for being the hero he focused on his shooting skills. He can both pick the corner with his extremely accurate wrist shot or to blast it past the goalie with his wicked slap shot. If Berocka has the puck in the offensive zone don’t give him any space or you will regret it. Puck Handling Berocka grew up playing cricket in Australia before his ice hockey career, this helped him hone in on his hand-eye co-ordination. This matched with his love of scoring, Berocka has shown exceptional puck handling skills to open his shooting lane and allowing himself to become the hero of the team. Checking Berocka is not afraid to hit or be hit on the ice, he grew up playing against a lot of players bigger than him which helped him learn how to check well. When ever he is on the ice you see some of the smaller players looking around, they are aware he is there, and you can tell it bothers them. Willingness to Learn Berocka has shown a lot of passion for the sport and spends any free time trying to learn and improve. Whether it be ice time with a coach or player, or even watching film. Berocka always tries to tidy up his game and not only improve on any weaknesses but continue to excel at what he does best. Weaknesses Leadership As Berocka grew up playing with older players he never really had a leadership position. He usually is only aware about his own game and struggles to change strategies on the fly without the assistance of others. Fighting Checking is one of Berocka’s strengths but sometimes this rubs people the wrong way, if this leads to a fight Berocka is almost certain to lose the altercation. He is known to be the cause of some fights but finds a way of backing out of them each time. This can sometimes cause teammates to come in and lend a hand. Selfishness Berocka grew up as the one-man team, this leads him to try and be the hero of every situation. When it pays off he looks good but when it doesn’t go to plan it can turn out quite bad and ruin the morale of the team. Berocka is known to ignore an open man in a good scoring shot to take a shot himself, or even to try and deke around a defender instead of passing off to the open man. Summary Berocka is an exceptional player and worth the look for any teams looking for another scoring threat. I would strongly recommend that any GM’s that are scouting Berocka to consider the internal locker room issues that may arise with his hiring. If you have a strong core with great leadership I imagine that Berocka could fall in line and become a great asset for your team.
  13. Name: Berocka Sundqvist Age: 21 Position: Left Wing Height: 6'3'' Weight: 200 lbs Date of Birth: 23rd November 1997 Place of Birth: Queensland, Australia Nationality: Australian Family Life Berocka was born and spent his childhood in Queensland, Australia. He was raised by his parents Oliver and Gemma, he was an only child and was always a little bit spoilt throughout his childhood. Discovery of Ice Hockey As he was born in a place that is rather hot and never sees snow Berocka knew nothing of the wonderful sport of Ice Hockey. Instead spent his time playing Cricket and Australian Rules Football. He was quite good at both sports but never a stand out, he continued along with this until he was aged nine and his life would be changed forever. Berocka was invited to his friend’s birthday party at an ice-skating rink, unexpectedly he had an extremely fun time trying to get the hang of skating with his friends. After the two hours of playing around they sat down for the birthday cake. Whilst the cake cutting was happening an ice hockey team took to the ice to start practising. The speed and grace of the players skating around was absolutely captivating to young Berocka, this started his interest in the sport. Later that month Berocka went on a family holiday to visit his grandparents Hugo and Helga off in Sweden. Whilst telling his Grandfather about this Berocka found out that his Grandfather was once quite good at ice hockey himself. With Hugo finding out about Berocka’s interest it made him extremely happy as his son Oliver (Berocka’s Dad) never showed an interest in the sport. Hugo took Berocka to the rink every day for the month to teach him to skate and to start using a stick. After a wonderful month where Berocka surprisingly learnt quite quickly the basics of the sport, on the last day Hugo gifted Berocka his very own hockey stick, this made Berocka’s day and couldn’t wait to get back home. (Berocka with his Grandfather) Early Hockey Career Upon returning home Berocka went and signed up at the local skating rink as part of the Under 10’s Brisbane Blitz Ice hockey team. After the first season Berocka had picked up the game quite well, winning a couple of awards. This was due to his love for the game, this led to him reading every ice hockey book in the local library multiple times no matter if it was fiction or non-fiction. When he wasn’t reading books about the game he was reading anything he could find on the slow internet they had at home. By the age of 13 he had improved that much he was now playing two age groups up from his age. By playing with kids older than him it just sped up his learning curve not only because the competition was more intense, but he couldn’t stand being any less than the best. (Berocka's early training days) School Life During this time Berocka like most children would spend his hours of 8am – 3pm inside school which he was excelling at, with a mind for numbers he did quite well at Maths and quite the sportsman he found Physical Education extremely easy. He did slightly above average in his remaining subjects. After school hours would usually see Berocka outside playing backyard cricket or passing around a footy with friends from school. Due to the unpopularity of Ice Hockey in Australia he never really played this with his school friends. His practice came in the mornings before school, he would catch a lift with his Mum Gemma to the rink and put in an hour of practice every morning with the help of his coach Peter. Peter was middle aged man from Canada who had spent his whole life playing hockey and after a bad knee injury spent his time coaching the sport that he fell in love with. Berocka most looked forward to Thursday afternoons when he would go for training with the rest of his team. He would always put in 100% at training and aimed to learn as much as he could from each of his team mates to become the best he could be. Entry to University This continued until High School Graduation, at the age of 17 he graduated with a score good enough to get him in to any university he could choose to complete his business degree. Before he had the chance to get accepted into a university though, disaster hit the family his Grandmother Helga had passed away, the family packed up their bags and went over to Sweden for the Funeral and to support his grandfather. During this time, Berocka discovered that he could be eligible for a University Scholarship if he could get through the trial process as a Hockey Player at the Gothenburg University of Business or as it is known locally as GUB. Berocka jumped at the chance as there would be no possibility of this back in Australia. Berocka went to the tryouts and was amazed at the calibre of the players, he thrived under pressure and exceeded everyone’s expectations that the young Australian could compete with Sweden’s best. University Life University was a bit of a struggle at first with Berocka being in a country he didn’t know much about as well as sometimes there was a language barrier. Berocka put all his effort into getting his degree whilst trying to stay the best Hockey player he could be. In the first year of University Berocka managed to make his way up to the first line of the GUB team and set the record for the most amount of points for a rookie. In the following years he was no less successful and continued with good marks and breaking records on the ice. Unfortunately for Berocka he had not been contacted by any other Hockey teams and he was reaching Graduation. Finally, after three long and hard years he reached Graduation, with his most successful year in his last year not only did the GUB hockey team win the championship for the year but Berocka ended in the top 10% of his graduating class. (Berocka in the championship final in his 3rd year of University) Life After Schooling Berocka was very happy with how everything in University turned out, except that his Hockey career appeared to have come to an end, he was now 21 and hadn’t been in contact with any professional teams. So Berocka started the job hunt as he now had a bachelor’s degree, after a month of searching he finally found his dream job, though it was not one he had really applied for. It was a contract offer from the Mississauga Hounds, he took absolutely no time to accept the offer. He packed his bags and off he was to Mississauga, Canada. This is where his story truly begins… (Mississauga Hounds Logo)
  14. 1. I believe with the strong core, good goalie and a couple of young guys up and coming we are doing quite well. 2. I think we will have to wait before Hulk Hogan has joined the VHL before we can fully compare the two. But he has definitely put up some good stats already this season. 3. It would be nice to get a backup goalie as Rayz Funk would make a good goalie to learn from for an up and comer. 4. I think it goes to show that an expansion team can do great things, and that we can follow suit and cause a couple of upsets. 5. Getting in to the grove with the league and just getting a better feel for the day to day actions, I have to say the GM has been a big help. 6. I am happy with it all, just soaking it all in and enjoying my time here.
