    1. Well the coaching staff must already have a lot of faith in the kid to simply throw the kid on the first line. If the kid does well he might just stay on that line so it's a great opportunity for him to take hold of.

    2. I try not to think of what ifs, we drafted who we drafted lets focus on our prospects.

    3. I didn't really do my homework on this draft but I sure was hoping we'd find a gem or two as we weren't picking top 5 for once.

    4. Officially the Captaincy was given to Idaho which I feel is the right choice for the job.

    5. It's a curse I tell you, sorry Idaho guess your days are numbered now. Better win a cup this year cus it just may be your last year here.

    6. I'm pretty stressed out with work as it's been ridiculously busy with people being last minute charlies before the winter really hits. Fun stuff and that's why I haven't been as committed to the VHL as much I have been in the past.

Seabass got a reaction from Spartan in Moscow starting strong
Well the Moscow Menace have come flying out of the gate for the first ten games of the season and have only been able to be beaten in regulation just the once by the Warsaw Predators. You'd think a trip to the Continential Cup Finals last year and a short offseason would've affected their start as it has for the Vancouver Wolves and the NHL's Montreal Canadiens, but the Menace are currently leading the league standings with a 9-1-1 record so far. That's even taking in account the roster changes the Menace have made since the finals run, like trading away their captain once again and losing a few pieces to free agency and retirement.

Duncan Idaho was granted the team's captaincy and you can really see the leadership Idaho brings to the team by simply watching him play on the ice, he's the team's best player and hardest worker so the choice was fairly obvious for team GM, @Spartan.  He's currently the only player on the team with more than 1000 tpe and surprisingly enough happens to be leading the Menace in scoring with his 9 goals and 22 points in 11 games.

Papa Emeritus has officially taken the reigns of the team's starting goaltender role as Rasputin was allowed to leave the team via Free Agency. The Menace's season was really going to depend on how Emeritus would play as the team's undisputed starter. He currently sits with a save percentage of .924% and a 8-1-1 record. So far he's done very well for himself and the team has reaped the rewards of his solid play.

Seabass got a reaction from Spartan in Seabasstard excited to start the season
It's now training camp time in the VHL and the Moscow Menace have had a change in routine this year after extending their season to the Continental Cup finals. The last few years the Menace player's have had a long summer break/holiday due to missing the playoffs. This year it's been a short one and the players haven't had much time to mentally reset themselves after their loss in the finals against the Vancouver Wolves.

" I kinda like the short summers, those seasons where we hadn't made the playoffs the offseason were so long I was prone to just get disinterested and not as motivated to do my workouts. This year I find I haven't lost focus and i'm just excited and eager to get back on the horse and start playing hockey again. We have some unfinished business this year and I want to hit the ground running. I didn't even bother leaving Russia this offseason, I stayed here to better keep my focus on hockey and my workouts at the gym. It's actually worked out very well"

    1. The Seabasstard plans to spend this offseason in Moscow so he can come back next year with a vengence.

    2. I plan to stay sharp by training and practicing with members of CSKA Moscow and sometimes get to work with their head coach, the legend Sergei Federov.

    3. I want to take a trip to Siberia, I want to see Lake Baikal and other landscapes.

    4. I'm not a scout so I don't really pay much attention to the up and comers too too much. I know we got Spartan's player, Nico Pearce whos highly touted by will be unreachable by the menace's picks and might even go first overall. I guess there's also Grape's player Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin that's interesting.

    5. The interview process was the best part. It's not often you get to interact with so many VHL GMs all at once. Got to have some pretty good discusssions.

    6. It's still a little fresh and I think those wounds are still open for some, myself included. We just got to all channel that pain and push ourselves to be that much better next year. We were so close, we were one win away, we weren't far off if we fix the small flaws to our game and keep getting better were going to succeed as long as everyone stays on board.

    2. I'll pick Stein as he was really solid and consistent throughout the year.

    3.  That Vancouver stadium sure was loud in the finals. They definitely played a factor in the outcome.

    4. Just sitting down listening to a few good tunes gets the job done for me.

    5. Well I think our draft picks are somewhat limited I thought so I wasn't expecting much. However we do have a few retiring players that'll leave some holes in our roster that'll need to be filled.

    6. I think Lexi Glass really elevated my game this year and I really appreciated having her as a line mate this year.

It's now been a week since the VHL Playoffs have wrapped itself up.  Obviously I was a little disappointed to come back home without a Continential Cup once more, especially after leading the series 3-1. It's now been 69 seasons since the last time I've won the Continential Cup and over ten years and I'm eager to get that winless streak broken. I guess this year just wasn't the year for it, and we'll just have to try it again next year. We have a solid core that is all signed to another season so there's no reason not to think we'll be contenders once again.

Still, I think it was pretty impressive to roll into the Continential Cup Finals without having a single loss in the first few rounds against Prague and Malmo. I'm also happy with how our team played, we didn't have a single player in the minuses and we had a total of 6 point per game players. But, we may have rode Rasputin's fantastic play a little too much and we may have got a little too comfortable knowing he was in net and playing on his head. Still the guy ended up posting a save percentage of .938 which is still pretty insane.

Here's to the next one, hopefully!

Well it isn't often that a full quarter of the league get new GMs but here we go. As you all likely saw Here we were hiring for Malmo and LA GM openings. Also anyone not living under the rock knows that @Nykonax has been interim GM of Vancouver for a season now. In addition to that, a bit of a miscommunication meant that we didn’t put up a posting for Prague when the others went up. We did, however, consider all the same applicants for Prague as well.

So, thank you to all the GMs that are stepping down for the effort and dedication they gave to this league. @diamond_ace , @hylands, and @fonziGG have all done terrific jobs and deserve tons of love from all of us.

and also Josh (Note from Bek)

    So, onto the replacements then!

Congratulations to each of you and we wish you all luck in this upcoming season, also congrats to Nyko I guess for keeping the job he’s been doing so far!

    1. After a pro hockey career i'd probably just buy a truck to convert into a overlander and just bum around and travel North America and do a lot of fishing.

    2. It's great we have a young team and even though were competing now, we've still got young talent to develop such as these guys so I think we're going to be a solid team for years to come.

    3. Not really I think we're gelling pretty good right now and we don't have that much cap space at play.

    4. Well he seems to be, can he keep it up? I sure hope so because he has to make up for some lost time (covid) in order to beet Gretzky's record.

    5. Well Idaho ending up finishing the year as our top point getter and I think he was expected to in a sense at the beginning of the season. The guy is phenomenal and is probably the most talented guy on the team. Don't get me wrong though Stein had a hell of a year too and is largely responsible for our team's success coming out of the gate this season. We're just lucky to have two 100+ point guys that are really on their A game and i'm excited to see what they can do in the post season.

Welcome to VSN’s VHL playoff preview and predictions, in this article we’ll break down each series and discuss what players could be key to turning the tide of the series and potentially pulling off an upset. While you’re here be sure to check out some of the other recent VSN articles.

    Wildcard Series

     Calgary vs. Los Angeles

Our first series of the playoffs could be an interesting one and will come down to Los Angeles’s veterans battling it out with Calgary’s youth. The season series between these two was very one-sided with Calgary coming out on top in 5 of the 6 matchups. For Calgary to come out on top this series their offense will need to get going and quickly having only scored 4 or more goals in one of their last 10 games going 3-7-0 in that stretch. Calgary’s offense is widely centered around 1 player in particular in Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers who led the team in scoring last season with 46 goals and 102 points. Los Angeles on the other hand is going to need to lean heavily on retiring goaltender Doug Dimmadome @Esso2264 to find a way out of this series and onto the next round.

    Prediction: Calgary in 4
VSN vote: CGY 6, LAS 3

     HC Davos vs. Prague

In what could be a very close series we have Davos and Prague going head to head, Davos won the season series 3-2. Some key players for Davos in this one will be Taro Tsujimoto @GustavMattias and Reylynn Reinhart @Ricer13 who will need to drive their team’s offense to overwhelm the Prague defensive group and goaltender. For Prague their core will need to play very well, and specifically Grekkark Gyrfalcon @Sharkstrong will need to stand on their head and Battre Sandstorm @Acydburn will need to help shut down Davos’s offense.

    Prediction: Davos in 5
VSN vote: DAV 6, PRA 3

    Conference Semi-Finals

     Vancouver vs. Calgary

The season series between these two was closer than most would think with it coming to a tie at 3 games a piece with Calgary out-scoring Vancouver 25-22. This series by all means could be an offensive onslaught with every game being high scoring and could come down to both teams newer players with Tyler Reinhart @Zetterberg and Jerome Reinhart @MexicanCow123 for Vancouver who both had great seasons offensively and Nils Tallinder @Patrik Tallinder and Alex Johnston @Alex_J32 for Calgary both of who took a big step forward this season and if Johnston can get his shooting percentage up to league average (5.57% on 395 shots) it could tilt this series in Calgary’s favour.

    Prediction: Vancouver in 6
VSN vote: VAN 7, CGY 2

     Chicago vs. D.C.

In what could be the most interesting series of the conference semi-finals we have Chicago and D.C. going head to head, both teams are taking their last run at a Continental Cup prior to what could be a rebuild as almost the entirety of both rosters will be retired following next season. Chicago will be leaning heavily on Jean Pierre Camus @solas to carry them through this series and keep their cup hopes alive. D.C. on the other hand is led by 3-time Scott Boulet Trophy winner Groovy Dood @bigAL who will be determined to add to their trophy case prior to retirement.

    Prediction: Chicago in 5
VSN vote: CHI 7, DCD 2

     Moscow vs. HC Davos

The Moscow Menace have done very well for themselves this season and look to carry that success into the playoffs, during the season series the teams split the 6 games with Davos picking up one more point with an OTL in the series. As a whole the entire Moscow roster is very young and only a couple players have hit regression so far, they do however have plenty of Continental Cup experience with goaltender Rara Rasputin @Victor who was a part of the Seattle team that won it in S77. Davos on the other hand may look to Patrik Laine @Laine and Isabella Campbell @Banackock to step up in a big way and carry their team through to the next round.

    Prediction: Moscow in 5
VSN vote: MOS 6, DAV 1

     Malmo vs. Warsaw

The defending champs in Malmo do not have an easy road in front of them as they will be taking on the Warsaw Predators. On paper this series looks like it could be a blow out with almost every Malmo player having a higher TPE than every Warsaw player. During the season series Malmo was able to take 3 of 5 matchups. The main player standing in Malmo’s way is 100 point scorer Chris Reynolds @Crstats23 who will look to replicate what Warsaw did in S78. For Malmo this looks like it could be their series to lose and you can look for Gunnar Odinsson @BOOM to come out and look to make a statement by burying Warsaw in each and every game.

    Prediction: Malmo in 4
VSN vote: MAL 9, WAR 0

    Conference Finals

     Vancouver vs. Chicago

The Vancouver and Chicago season series was a really interesting one with Vancouver coming out on top 3-2. This is a series that could very well come down to goaltending with both teams having great offensive groups. For Vancouver it will be Markus Emerson Jr @Xflexz between the pipes who had a 0.928 SV% this past season. Chicago on the other hand will have potential top goaltender for this season Jean Pierre Camus @solas in the crease who recorded a career high 0.935 SV% this past season.

    Prediction: Vancouver in 4
VSN vote: VAN 8, CHI 0

     Moscow vs. Malmo

During the season series Moscow took a 3-2 series win however, Malmo took the last two games between them. In this series both teams have rosters that could be together for some time and this could prove to be an ongoing battle each and every season in the playoffs. This time around it could end up being a battle of the 2 top defensemen from the S78 draft in Tui Sova @v.2 for Malmo and Hard Markinson @STZ for Moscow, both of whom had a great regular season and will be looking to keep their success going. This series could be an absolute battle and will surely be interesting to watch unfold.

    Prediction: Moscow in 7
VSN vote: Moscow 4, Malmo 3

    Continental Cup Finals

     Vancouver vs. Moscow

Both these teams have a very young core group of players who will continue to get better and could have their teams at the top of the league for some time to come. Vancouver in contrast to Moscow made some big trades near the deadline to bring in veteran players Dakota Lamb @dlamb and Jeffery Pines @rory , both of whom will be looking to add to their trophy case prior to retirement. Moscow in stark contrast did not buy at the deadline and is set to improve their roster at the draft with a mountain of picks. For Moscow they will need Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeath and Paul Atreides @Mr_Hatter and their entire offense to step up in a big way and hopefully find a way to get pucks past Vancouver’s netminder. This series will be an interesting one if it happens and could go either way.

    Prediction: Vancouver in 6
VSN vote: VAN 4, MOS 1

Thank you to everyone for reading and best of luck to each and every team in the playoffs! If you have any predictions of your own feel free to post them in the comments.

Recently VSN’s history writers tackled naming the Top 75 players in the VHL’s first 75 seasons. Then, since we’re gluttons for punishment and hours of research, we thought, hey, since S80 will be ending soon, what a great time to pick the best players of each decade! And instead of just a single lineup, let’s do a full 20-man roster!

And so, over the next few weeks, VSN will be taking you on a journey back to the beginning and make our way through each decade as we name the most impactful players in those 10-season spans. Now, they may not be the players with the best stats or the most games played, although slight preference has been given to players who have played the majority of their career in one decade, but we wanted to recognize players who’s all-around influence was felt throughout all aspects of the game (regular season, playoffs, World Cups, the locker room). Due to short VHL careers, many players may have only played 2-4 seasons in a certain decade but had a big impact in a short time. Hence, we may have players make two All-Decade Teams if they were equally stellar in both halves of their career. Fringe inclusions were voted on by 8 long-time members of the league.

VSN Presents: The VHL’s All-Decade Teams:
    S1-S10

    Scotty Campbell, F, S1-S8 @scotty
    GP: 577 PTS: 1239, HOF
Widely considered the best player to ever play in the league let alone the first decade of the VHL’s existence, Campbell’s career scoring records still stand today. Five scoring titles, four-time goal leader, four Continental Cups, three MVPs are just a few of his accomplishments.

    Mike Szatkowski, F, S3-S10 @Mike
    GP: 573 PTS: 971, HOF
Overshadowed by Campbell much of his career, Szatkowski is the second-most prolific scorer in VHL history. He finally got his due in S8 when he led the league in goals and points and won the MVP. He captured his only Continental Cup the following season with Toronto.

    Christian Stolzschweiger, F, S1-S8
    GP: 574 PTS: 912, HOF
The second-best goal-scorer next to Campbell had five seasons of 63 or more goals. He won the MVP in his second season and won his only Cup in S7 where he was named the Playoff MVP.

    Matt Defosse, F, S1-S8 @Cowboy
    GP: 546 PTS: 797, HOF
Although he started his career as a defenseman, Defosse switched to forward during his second season to create a fearsome partnership with Campbell. He was a five-time All-Star, three times named the best defensive forward and won two Cups.

    Scott Boulet, F, S1-S6
    GP: 432 PTS: 737, HOF
One of the VHL’s first true power forwards, Boulet did it all in his six seasons, hit and score. He was named the league’s best defensive forward three times, won two Cups, and was named MVP in his final season. He never scored less than 53 goals in a season and has the third-highest point/game average of players who played more than two seasons.

    Brannan Anthony, F, S1-S7 @brannan12a
    GP: 506 PTS: 737, HOF
A gifted playmaker who really took off later in his career, Anthony was the third player in VHL history to score 100 assists in a season. His even hundred led the league in S7.

    Dust'n Funk, F, S3-S9 @Strummer
    GP: 504 PTS: 701, HOF
Funk was a respected leader and feared competitor. He helped Seattle win back-to-back Cups in S4 and S5 and racked up over 800 penalty minutes, 700 points, and 600 hits during his career.

    Brett Slobodzian, F, S1-S5
    GP: 360 PTS: 643, HOF
The only man who could rival Campbell’s offensive output in the league’s first three seasons, Slobodzian lead the league in goals, assists, and points and was named MVP in S1 and S3. He also won two Cups during a career that unfortunately, took a sharp turn down near the end and only lasted five seasons.

    Branden Snelheid, F, S5-S10
    GP: 432 PTS: 661, HOF
A true gentleman on and off the ice, Snelheid quietly produced each of his six seasons, never scoring less than 96 points. He won Continental Cups in S6 and S9.

    Kevin Brooks, F, S6-S10 @brooks.
    GP: 360 PTS: 608, HOF
Although his career continued into the second decade, it could be argued that Brooks was the VHL’s best forward in S9-S10 when he led the league in points and was named MVP both seasons, led in goals and assists once, and captured his only Continental Cup in S9.

    Alex McNeil, F, S1-S6 @McNeil
    GP: 428 PTS: 634, HOF
McNeil was one of the early VHL’s most colorful characters and brought his scrappy yet effective style of play to a few teams. He was named the best defensive forward in S4, scored 68 goals in S5 and won consecutive Cups in those two seasons with Seattle.

    Alexander Beketov, F, S6-S10 @Beketov
    GP: 362 PTS: 515, HOF
Known for his supreme skills even before making it to the VHL, Beketov produced at an elite level and led the league in assists and won the trophy that now bears his name in S8.

    Sterling Labatte, D, S1-S9 @sterling
    GP: 648 PTS: 772, HOF
Aided partially by an extra season of play, Labatte is nonetheless the all-time scorer among defensemen and still considered the best. He won the trophy that now bears his name best defenseman three times, was named top leader twice, won three Cups with Calgary and was named playoff MVP twice.

    Jochen Walser, D, S5-S10 @marshall_222
    GP: 431 PTS: 508, HOF
Walser would beat you on both ends of the ice and usually with a snarl. He won Rookie of the Year in S5 and would lead Toronto in playoff scoring in S9 to win the Cup and MVP. He set the single-season goal record for a defenseman in S10 with 46 goals that stood until S31. First to be named best defenseman three years in a row, he is still third all-time in penalty minutes.

    Patrice Reynaud, D, S3-S9
    GP: 506 PTS: 594, HOF
One of only three defensemen to win multiple best defensemen awards in the first decade, Reynaud is sometimes overlooked when mentioning the greats. He had five seasons of 80+ points, was named an All-Star five times and won two Cups with Seattle.

    Joey Kendrick, D, S1-S6 @Kendrick
    GP: 428 PTS: 561, HOF
Kendrick’s career was short but sweet and generally considered one of the game’s purest offensive blueliners. He had four straight 90+ point seasons, won a Cup with Calgary in S3 and set the league record for assists with 112 and was named best defenseman in S5. He was an All-Star in all six seasons and still ranks first among pure defensemen with a 1.31 point/game.

    David Night, D, S1-S7 @Knight
    GP: 504 PTS: 534, HOF
Night was as steady and polite as they come – typically British – and while he didn’t win a Cup, he was named best defenseman after a 38-goal, 95-point performance in S2 and then went on to post six consecutive 75+ point seasons.

    Doug Schneider, D, S1-S8
    GP: 538 PTS: 530, HOF
Although he’s not in the Hall of Fame and his regular season production may not be on par with the others on this list, Schneider had another gear in the playoffs. He is the highest playoff scoring defenseman of the decade, beating Labatte by one point and ranks fourth all-time with 84 points in 78 games while winning four Continental Cups.

    Alex Gegeny, G, S7-S10 @Pominville29
    W: 200 SV%: 0.929, HOF
When you have four HOF goalies to choose from, picking the two to be on this team was a tighly voted affair. Gegeny was spectacular in his career and led the decade with a sparkling 2.24 GAA and 0.929 SV% while posting the second most win with 200. He was named an All-Star all four seasons, named best goalie S8 and S9 led Toronto to the S9 Continental Cup

Seabass got a reaction from Spartan in Moscow Menace Press Conference
    1. It starts at the top with our GM, as for the clown I thing Tristan still has that title even though he's not playing for us no more
    2. I think i've been getting steady ice time now and it's done wonders for me as Ive been having a career year with the added minutes.
    3. I go back home to northern ontario. It's hard to take any foreign vacation right now.
    4. My jerseynumber is 37 which is a random number for me, I only selected it because 69 was already taken of course.
    5. This season right here is my best moment so far. We're basically a lock for the playoffs and this will be the first time I make the post season, very exciting stuff.
    6. No sadly I haven't due to working pretty heavy hours. I would really love to one day experience one.

Seabass got a reaction from Spartan in The Seabasstard's career year
Well last week I was able to finally hit the coveted 72 point mark to be able to say that I've got a point per game player. Out of my now three players, The Seabasstard is actually the first one to hit that 72 point milestone. Not only did I hit that 72 point mark but The Seabasstard was able to score more points this season, than his previous two seasons combined (73).

"I'm not trying to be greedy at all but I'd love to be able to score a couple more goals to hit that 40 goal mark. I got five more games to do it so we'll see what happens. Either way the Moscow Menace is basically a lock for the playoffs and it's a really fun building to play in right now. The City hasn't seen a playoff series in years now and the excitement is in the air and that crowd is already pretty loud, I can only imagine how much louder they'll become once the playoffs are underway"

Out of the remaining five games that the Menace have left to play, they only face one non playoff team in Helsinki which is a great opportunity to send a message to the other competing playoff teams that we're ready for war and that this will be our year.

Seabass got a reaction from Jayrad28 in Seabass Perrin's post hockey story
Seabass Perrin was a former VHL defender who played 576 games for a full 8 season career. He wasn't a superstar by any means but he ended up being one of the early building blocks of the Prague Phantoms franchise that got created in S68. He was a solid two way defender and gathered up over 400 points in his playing days and carved out a respectable career over his 7 seasons in Prague and his jersey is now hanging from the rafters of the 02 arena.

During his curtain call season in Prague, Perrin announced to the press that he was opening up a night club/restaurant in downtown Prague in a joint venture with former Phantoms teammate Alex Pearson @Jayrad28

Seabass however was still playing hockey for the Phantoms so he let Pearson take on most of the duties during their first year in business. Turns out that it was an unwise decision to trust a well known alcoholic and party animal to run a nightclub. The business bled money and didn't even last a year before closing down during the beginning of the pandemic. Pearson used the business to fuel his partying lifestyle and ended up turning the business into a front for moving cocaine and other drugs. Eventually Pearson got pinched and he's now serving time in the big house.

Perrin had planned his post hockey career around running this club but the nightclub had shuttered down before the his last season even ended. So when he retired he didn't have anything to immediately fall back on.

"I went through a rough patch after my hockey career ended. I was still reeling from the loss of my club and the legal bullshit afterwards but there was also the culture shock, I didn't know what to do with myself without hockey. I stopped going to the gym and gained some weight as I started not eating right anymore. Also after 6 years of sobriety and I relapsed and started drinking again. Just like that, after a hard time, the demons that I thought I had conquered came back to haunt me again and I was a wreck."
    -Seabass Perrin

Eventually Perrin found the courage to jump back on the wagon and has cleaned up his act once again. He's now been sober once again for 3 years and has since founded his own agency and currently represents former 3rd overall pick, The Seabasstard.

He also recently opened up his own marijuana dispensary and has been a big advocate for marijuana and made claims that weed was critical in his road to sobriety and continues to help him manage pain from old hockey injuries. His dispensary is in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta in a old Royal Bank location and he conveniently named his store Royal Dank and only made slight modifications to the bank old signage. The dispensary has been a hit and Seabass is convinced to have found his calling.

"I really love everything about this plant the smell, the medical benefits, the high, everything. Weed has really helped me in life and to be able to grow it, sell it and talk about it all day, man I feel like i'm living the dream. Darren McCarty was on to something there. "

Seabass reacted to SpicyGecko in Discord locker room ownership.
This might take away from the whole locker room invite thing but for the VHLM specifically maybe have a big discord with locker rooms within it. That way new members can interact with other new members. Right now it kind of feels like theres a disconnect between new members of different teams. The VHLM discord can be owned and managed by a VHLM commish and can be a place where new/returning members can interact and provide support for eachother.

Seabass reacted to Baozi in Ban Thread
User @MattyIce has been suspended from the league forums and discord until November 19, 2021. During this time he will be under a point task ban as well. This is a result of violation of Violation of personal conduct of a VHL GM, Violation of the VHL Code of Conduct and harassment/inappropriate behavior towards a community member.

This is a general reminder to everyone that the league takes harassment complaints incredibly seriously. Consent is incredibly important to us here to ensure that everyone feels safe and has fun. It is not only the staff’s duty but all members to ensure that each of us helps to grow and keep this community safe for one another.
