I noticed very few teams have very little yellow as a main color.  Since Vancouver has that black/grey/white thing happening already, Stars should be bright... just not at all this season

A case could be made that New York is in need of a rebrand to lose the stench of mediocrity and the longest cup draught in recorded history. And one would not be wrong. I am a loyal member/player, but I must admit that the Americans could use a new logo, as the existing one is kind of bland.

However, this is article is not about the Empire State franchise, this is about my real life nemesis: Davos.

Don't get me wrong: I have nothing against the VHL franchise located in the Swiss Eastern Alps. In fact, I am proud that a Swiss team exists in the VHL and Davos, due to its record championships as well as the Spengler Cup is the obvious choice. So why shit on them?

Because the sound of Davos alone is enough to grind my gears being a supporter of the much superior EV Zug. While the Davos Dynamo has a certain appeal with its alliteration, the suffix 'Dynamo' was traditionally used in the Eastern Hemisphere during the cold war era I grew up in. Names like Dynamo Dresden (GDR), Dynamo Kiev, Dynamo Moscow and Dynamo Riga (all former USSR, now Ukraine, Russia and Latvia respectively) were the poster clubs of the Warsaw Pact states in Football and Hockey respectively and the bane of the clubs hosted in the self proclaimed 'free world'. Therefore, the combination 'Dynamo' with any Swiss club sounds wrong. Especially, since we were the odd one out, being close to the border of the two power blocks at the time, and continously fearing for our freedom and independence.

So I would suggest to relocate Davos to Zug. The latter is not at the brink of Switzerland, but smack in the middle and is arguably more international, due to many global companies having their headquarters in said city. I will admit it has not the same glamour as Davos with its WEF and the high society spending their ski holidays there. On the other hand it is a trading hub and a fair share of ressources (metals and oil chief amongst them) are going through Zug (mostly on paper and not in physical form).

    City of Zug at sunset

Now I was thinking of using Bulls as the new logo as Zug used to be a well known cattle market. But this business has been overshadowed by the aforementioned trading companies. So we could use the name Oilers and keep the logo as it is. The mountains are so typically Swiss that they fit any location in my home country. And whether it is a non-existing dynamo (a widget to transfer kinetic energy into electrical one) or non-existent oil that is represented by the mountain, does not really matter.

I even think we should keep the colour, as blue and white (the Zug coat of arms hues) are too common place and purple is a welcome change. It certainly is not my favourite shade of the rainbow, but I am willing to accept this.

So there it is, my suggestion for a rebranding and now I am going to buggy on out before Ahma locates my whereabouts and sends me an angry letter.

So hello everyone, I like to keep my topics here usually VHL related but I need to break character for a moment to announce something that’s happened very recently to me.

All small handful of members knew what I’ve been going through the past 2 weeks. That is, I’ve been running for my American university’s student government vice president position (as a freshman). The pain staking 2 weeks of campaigning, repeating each presentation time after time to different groups, $600 in expenses, and countless nights of rough sleep…paid off.

I’m beyond thrilled to announce that I will be my university’s next student government vice president. There were about 900 votes cast, and my ticket won by 8 votes. Now these results are unofficial but I as of now do not suspect that the outcome will change .

i don’t know how it will impact my involvement here, I still hold the VHL very close a dear to my heart as it’s been a crutch the past 3.5 years for me. Thank you everyone for just reading this little rant but I’m beyond ecstatic right now.

mattyIceman reacted to Vice in Biography: Johnny Tsunami
NAME: Johnny Kapahala Tsunami, III - "Johnny Tsunami"
DATE OF BIRTH: October 13, 2007
    PLACE OF BIRTH: Lihue, Hawaii
    BLOOD TYPE: A+

Johnny Tsunami is a name that needs no introduction, at least in some parts of Hawaii that is. Growing up in a rural town of Hawaii, Johnny was surrounded by surfers and surfing culture - after all, there were movies made about his great-grandfather, after whom he is named after. His childhood was filled with coddling, compliments and more - he was practically Hawaiian royalty at this point, and he hadn't even done anything! His father, Johnny Kapahala, had quite a following in the snowboarding world of Vermont and his son made sure to milk both stories to get what he wanted whenever he could. Johnny would become quite spoiled as a result of this and he would never really get into surfing the same way as the rest of his family did.  Following a similar path to his father however, Johnny's true calling was in the snow-blanketed hills and mountains of Vermont. After convincing his father to allow him to move to Vermont to finish his primary school, Johnny would make plans to move into the same ski-lodge where his father made his own reputation many years before. Near to the lodge were few amenities but some that would lay the path for Johnny's future - a hockey rink, a primary school and a high school.

Once in Vermont, Johnny found it difficult to make friends quickly. He didn't live in the traditional neighborhoods that the other students lived in, because of his father's reputation, he was able to be boarded up at the town's ski lodge. He bragged often about his families accomplishments and the tales of his father there, but the locals would eventually get tired of hearing it. This rightfully would come across as braggadocios to the other students who were quick to ostracize him from the rest of the group. Johnny would maintain this attitude through primary school, not realizing that he was setting up his own demise for secondary school. Johnny did start to take an interest in skating and further, hockey. At this point he was still gaining the fundamentals of hockey, having to mostly work on his own due to his poor attitude and failure to take criticism well.

After leaving primary school, Johnny would start to take his hockey prospects a bit more seriously. He realized that with actual training and practice, not just skating and messing around with a puck on off days, he could potentially make something out of this. So swallowing his pride, Johnny signed up for his local youth league at the age of 15. There he encountered multiple people who he had pushed away due to his more than wanton attitude in his younger years. They were quick to humble him even more in his first few real games. At first Johnny questioned whether hockey was the correct path for him - he wasn't scoring, he was getting hit constantly, and he was being left out to dry by teammates who he had mistreated in the past. His first heart-to-heart interaction with his first youth coach, Bingus McCringus, made him realize that perhaps he didn't need to be the main character and that his value could be found in helping someone else reach new heights.

Johnny saw success in his coaches advice unsurprisingly. By moving Johnny to center and telling him to focus on using his speed to make quick passes and dodge defenders, he became a lethal passing machine. Upon realizing his newfound skill, Johnny's attitude returned but for the better - he became a bigger team player and the leader in assists for his youth league. In sophomore year of high school, Johnny was doing well enough in his local youth league to try out for his school's hockey team but instead opted to join a youth development league to try and gain better hockey sense for the big leagues.

After finding success in his role of a playmaker, Johnny would go on to finish his schooling and return to his home state of Hawaii with a few youth accolades under his belt but he was really unsure of where to go from there. He didn't believe at the time that he was good enough mechanically to make it to the VHL, let alone the VHLE but figured that if there was nothing waiting for him back home in Hawaii, he could possibly pursue some sort of a shot at the VHLM. Using what contacts he had at the time, he reached out to a few people in the industry who he had become acquainted with during his time in the development league and they suggested at least putting his name out there to see if there would be any bites. One team was interested, and Johnny Tsunami soon found himself on his way to Houston to begin what would hopefully become a most promising career.

Does Johnny take the path of his legendary grandfather and remain humble through grace and skill? Or will he revert to his old, selfish ways?

The one big thing I personally find hurts international tournaments is the low visibility especially on the portal. Winning a medal doesn't show up on your awards, theirs no easily accessible or obvious way to see past winners, in every other sim league I've seen theirs a team section on the portal, we don't even have official logos for any of the teams in either competition. If your not paying attention the tournament can happen and you'd have no idea. Why should I care about international tournaments when everything is hidden and the league barely acknowledges it even happens afterwards?
