  1. Against my better judgement I'm going to briefly reply to you in the thread, so apologies if this brings you back when you planned to drop this or incites something again. I'm not the "top" you refer to here since I have no involvement in punishment or moderation, so this isn't an official stance, just my own thoughts after seeing everything play out over the last week or so. I listened to your podcast in its entirety (until the questions portion at the end when the moderation topic seemed to be over), but I will admit I am not a podcast guy. I don't listen to them unless I'm trying to fall asleep, they just don't grab my attention. But I tried my best to focus on what you said while I worked, and I did catch the general points and sound bites that Fong addressed in his response to you, so I feel like I've got the gist of your points. That being said, what specifically do you want to see change other than to fire Fong and hire you as the head mod? How would you even be different? Why should we overthrow a tenured moderator for someone who has been openly bitter about being punished by that moderator and his team? I mentioned in Moscow's LR after I listened to the podcast that I felt this was a very philosophical podcast, but no specific suggestions or constructive feedback that correlated to the VHL. You talked about inclusivity, but you didn't talk about how you would handle members that make comments that exclude others. You mentioned discipline vs punishment as a moderation tool, but you didn't say how you would change the current system to handle problematic behavior. I just don't see what your plea for change even is, other than as I stated, firing Fong and hiring you. Half this thread was animosity over how your own conduct was handled and how you were impacted. Wasn't that something better suited to address with moderators at the time of the punishment, or even in private at this time? I argue with Fong over plenty of stuff morally/ethically/philosophically but I like to think he's understood my perspectives when it comes to moderation since I try to present them as feedback instead of complaints. One is helpful, one is not. From a sim league/VHL perspective, I never see change happening over complaining and extreme, reactive "solutions." Identify and explain the issue, detail ways to improve and always expect compromise. Good luck

  6. Don't worry folks who got scared, I'll make sure to transfer you guys over to NYA on the portal
  7. We did have a bit of a discussion around this, and honestly it comes down to a player making the decision for themselves. We could have just labeled them all as forwards and removed the uniqueness from Centers, or split them up into C and W and at least treated the positions as unique even though sometimes the two positions can intermingle. This way, a player who is a center can look at a team with 3 centers but 2 wingers and decide that they're fine to play on the wing if they'd like. Perhaps we'll add another line in the instructions stating that forwards can play either C or W regardless of position though. I think that should be implemented (like the team name is a link) but if it's not, I'll ask Dil to do it. I don't have a live site to test that out right now unfortunately.
  8. Hi, I am indeed a bro, and I listened to this - although half-attentively I will admit. I think that portal waivers being "not personal" is still a fair concern, but we got to a point where the waiver pitches themselves were lifeless and dull. It also felt like the burden of effort was on the GM's to a bit of an extreme point. No one seemed to really enjoy the process at that point. And yes, come back to being an M GM (or at least apply for the position). We've gotten a fair few members who heard the rumblings of this new system on the horizon who are thinking about going for the job now that it's focused on teaching and engaging and not just "be online 24/7." In terms of implementing it, Dil becoming a developer might be the only reason that this was implemented. I honestly don't know if Josh would have had the time to do this, so the concerns back in 2019 would have been perfectly valid (no personal touch + too hard to implement). I also don't think we can track metrics for team info clicks but I can find out. I'd play for you in the M if you were a GM. I doubt we expand anytime soon especially since we have defunct teams now. If anything, we'd slide VHLE teams back over to the VHLM. And you just said that lol. I assume sirens mean ambulance, every time.
  9. My perms are a bit messed up on the forums it seems, I don't have the same ones as Gus
  10. Someone give me permissions to feature this smh
  11. For the second time today, hello! We were very excited to welcome two new VHLM GMs today and felt that we should keep the party going with a second announcement. Last season, @Gustav and I made two significant changes to the workings of the VHLM - increasing VHLM GM pay from 2 TPE to 4 TPE, and changing up the draft pick holding rules to prevent unhealthy asset management in a league oriented towards development and retention. We promised to increase the quality of the VHLM GM experience, but last season felt more like we were restricting our GMs as to what they could and couldn't do. Today, we'd like to announce our largest change yet - a completely revamped waiver process and system that is now fully run through the portal. That's right! VHLM GMs no longer have to post offers into waiver threads or constantly lurk the forums in order to secure a new player. This system also puts the decision-making process into the hands of the newly created player with a simple yet informative UI thanks to the work of @Dil. Here's what new creates will see immediately after creating their player: (Data and teams are from S80 for testing and demonstration purposes) We chose elements for this page based on what we felt were the most important aspects of a team that influence a player's decision. All the teams will be sorted by standings, and the # of players per team is also visible. This should allow users to have a better understanding of the situation they're walking into. Using the screenshot above, a new center would see that some of the top teams could use a third line center, but Las Vegas is the best team that can offer them a top 6 role. We hope that this new UI will give enough information to new creates without overwhelming them in a sea of data points. To add a bit more of a personal touch from the GM along with more information on a potential player's fit on the team, we've given VHLM GMs the ability to write (and update via Team Management) a pitch and projected position that new creates can choose to read when picking between teams: (Sample text for what a new user would see) Once a new create chooses a team, they will be redirected into a forum DM created between the new create, the team GM and the team AGM if the team has one. This will alert the team's management that a new create would like to join the team so that they can begin interacting with the new user, invite them to the team LR and get them signed to a contract. The automated DM will also include helpful links to forum content such as the TPE Guide and the Updated Build Guide. As many have mentioned before, new creates sometimes simply never venture into the forum or feel like the forum is too difficult to navigate in terms of finding relevant and helpful content. This new process both redirects new users to the forum and presents them with resources to begin their VHL journey on the right path. Finally, this system can be modified at the discretion of the VHLM Commissioners. Based on the league population and positional data, we can change what we consider to be "full" teams, and increase/decrease the threshold for a team's position to display as favorable or unfavorable. This system will also be deactivated from the start of the playoffs until the conclusion of the VHLM Draft. Any creates during playoffs or the offseason will need to be signed via written pitch in their new create thread, as was the common practice. --- We're very excited to see this new system in action for S86 and hope that it improves the overall experience for new VHL users. Expect to see various VHLM rule changes being announced in the coming days as we transition the VHLM rulebook away from the old waiver system, and remove rules largely created to incentivize GMs making written pitches to new players. As always, please let us know if you have any questions or feedback! @VHLM GM @VHLM Commissioner
  12. Hello again! @Gustav and I are happy to announce that we've come to a decision on the next GMs for both Ottawa and Las Vegas. We had a pretty strong list of applicants which made the decision tougher than we expected, so a big thank you to all those that applied. Don't feel disheartened if you didn't get the position this go around, and I encourage you to apply for future positions as well. If anyone would like feedback on their candidacy, feel free to reach out to me. Without further ado, please welcome the new permanent GM of the Ottawa Lynx: Please also welcome the new GM of the Las Vegas Aces: Congrats to both, and we look forward to working with you in the M! - @VHLM Commissioner

Life comes first, and any additional time you can use to enjoy the VHL is appreciated by everyone you'll interact with. Most if not all GMs will understand your commitments and try to help you plan around them to become the best VHL player you can be, so don't stress about missing some TPE here and there.
  17. Great to see you locked up! Had a very promising rookie season, and I'm excited to keep playing with you in Vancouver

  20. Halloween's coming up, and I came up with the perfect costume. Halloween's all about pretending to be something you're not (it's not actually, but work with me here) so I've decided to go as a VHL Continental Cup Winner. Guess I got the trick and not the treat in S85, but such is life. We mope and move on. Fair few number of topics to discuss that will be covered in my next podcast (tomorrow?) but I'll drop an overview of them here: - Moscow is sad to see @STZ step back as AGM after 5 seasons in that role. He was a great help with decision making for roster moves and trades, and his expertise will be missed. - In a corresponding move, @Brandon is stepping up into the AGM role after showing some interest in a league management position for a while now. He's already been helping behind the scenes for a couple seasons now, so it made perfect sense that he just slid into the role. Very excited to be working with him! - Moscow's in a fairly interesting position right now, with a pretty strong forward core with just 1 hole, and a defensive group that is missing its centerpiece for the first time since S78 without either Hard Markinson or Aurelian Moreau. Hoodie man seems to be the guy who needs to take the biggest step forward into becoming the team's #1 defenseman, but Moscow still has cap space to acquire another defenseman that could keep Moscow in the thick of the playoff race as always. - I have not yet done any draft scouting, so that's fun! - Nico is re-signing with Vancouver after a pretty solid plan for this next season was presented to me. There was a perfect slot in the roster for me, and it just didn't make sense to test FA despite that being the intention going into the season. VAN wasn't sure if they'd have the cap space back in the S85 offseason, so I wasn't expecting to be back. But the cap moves worked out and here we are, running it back. - Secret changes in the M
