Never used anchor so no idea what options it's got. But hopefully it's got some way to set gain for your recording? If not, the quality is still good so turning up the volume works just fine.

i will consider that next time before i record instead of listening through afterward and being like damn i have turn my volume ALL THE WAY UP

your podcasts are usually very quiet

i know it's because i have a shitty mic. I've been trying to figure out ways to make it louder but the sound waves even come through as tiny. i hold the mic part of my earbuds close to my mouth and then sometimes end up breathing directly into it and it's difficult to balance

  3. good thread.

re: music, i like seeing how other people organize their interests. i'm a slut for creating spotify playlists, and i do a themed one each week. why? no good reason other than to say i have them. it's also a fun and easy way to get song recommendations from people–i just say "send me a song that has 'sweet' in the title, artist, or album name," and i get a handful of new songs to listen to. the only fault i've found is when i did transportation and @Garsh recommended wheels on the bus. it followed the rules, so i couldn't refuse, and now i just have to pray that no one is creeping on my spotify listening when that song shuffles in

in terms of my life more generally, i'm doing really well for the first time, like, ever. i moved to WI in october and was extremely depressed for a few months. multiple calls to the suicide hotline, inability to feed myself, actual anger at the fact that i was alive every single day. one night, finally, while i was journaling about how i didn't "want to do this anymore" i just kinda decided not to, but not in the negative way. i taught myself how to crochet, started walking on the treadmill while i read, and cooking. i have hobbies now, and the silly little corporate job i have doesn't feel like my whole life.

i've had a really great time learning to invest in myself. i do things that i like because i like them. i feel better when i eat and go to the gym, even if sometimes i just read a book while i walk for 30 minutes. i sleep better when i take time away from my screens. it's been a really pleasant experience to, for lack of a cliche term, actually learn how to be happy and like myself. small things go a really long way, and i also feel like i'm more interesting to myself and other people now that i do something that i actually give a shit about instead of watching discord all night waiting for it to be bedtime.

in terms of money, i've always been a saver because i am (for really no good reason) terrified of spending money. i built a really simple budget and started organizing my funds a few months ago, and it's easier for me to feel comfortable doing things like grabbing dinner with my friends or planning a somewhat spontaneous trip to europe or get the tattoo i've been wanting. it's the small things–i know that my pleasure account is there specifically to do things for funsies, so i frickin use it

  4. i finished All Systems Red last night, which is the first book in the Murderbot Diaries series. I grabbed it because the premise seemed fun, a post-capitalist society ruled entirely by a company that has eyes everywhere. Narrator is a half-human, half-bot created by the company who has hacked its government module and living undercover.

It's only 150 pages, was looking for something short to read while I waited for my hold on Piranesi to become available. This was a bit too short and I got a bit too invested. I liked the light reading though, good if you're looking for a break from long reads

Answer 3 for 1 TPE, answer 6 for 2 TPE

    1. Make a convincing argument for the best time of day to eat breakfast.

    2. What is the best thing that happened to you today or this week? "nothing" is not an acceptable answer, I need optimism and details

    3. You're sitting in a living room with your teammates. There's a couch, the floor is carpeted, kitchen chairs not far away, and a couple bean bags. Where do you sit, and why?

    4. You have the option to rebrand in the VHL without anyone remembering who your previous persona was. Do you take it? If so, what direction are you taking? If not, how would you describe your current brand?

    5. Did you do predictions? If so, how are you feeling about them now that the season has come to life? If not, why not? You scared? come on bro

    6. Any VHFL sleeper picks you're predicting that you haven't seen anyone else mention, that someone else mentioned and they're onto something, or that's now a bandwagon you started?

    7. What does your optimal Saturday look like? How is that different from what your player would say?

    8. What is the best or worst light source? Make an impassioned argument. I need many exclamation points

    vhl.carm article

    recruitment was handling spotify playlist

i would, in fact, be upset if my podcast ended up on that playlist but it would be unjustifiable

it was horrifying to hear my BEEP and i'm very glad that my grandma sound made the cut

"i like being fifth or sixth. or first or second. i guess i just don't like three and four"

  9. just finished The Murmur of Bees by Sofía Segovia

10/10 recommend. I realized that my library loan was expiring soon and that I couldn't renew it, so I read half of it today

I wouldn't recommend it for young readers, but young adult and up I think could really jive with it. i enjoyed this book on so many levels

    - the writing is great, and the translation is wonderful. chapters are short, which i prefer. it almost reads like poetry in some spots, and i really liked that sometimes the author would take a short chapter to basically just have the narrator write a thoughtful essay that could probably stand alone.

    - narration changes which is confusing at first but really well-balanced once you figure out who and where everyone is

    - the setting starts in a pandemic setting which hit really close to home considering, well, the world

i really want someone to read this and appreciate it with me

  10. THIS PODCAST IS NOT SUITABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T LIKE SWEARING

    https://anchor.fm/fishy3/episodes/KACHOW-IT-was-EARTH-DAY-e1hip66

this episode kinda sucks because i talked about something that i realized may be a secret so i had to cut it out and honestly i didn't try very hard to make it not noticeable. i also don't know why my mic picked up so much of my breathing but i really did try to fix it after the fact and was very unsuccessful. just know that i tried.

    please don't tag the person.
