  2. :dcd:✨ DC DRAGONS PRESS CONFERENCE :dcd:✨

    Answer 3 for 1 TPE, Answer 6 for 2!

If you have playlist theme ideas, quote this sentence and let me know :)

    1. Would you rather be told that there are an indefinite number of invisible needles scattered around your home or that there was a tarantula set loose and lost in your home?

    2. Who is your favorite movie hero or heroine? Would you trade places with them?

    3. You’re going sail around the world, what’s the name of your boat?

    4. If you could see one movie again for the first time, what would it be and why?

    5. If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know?

    6. Would you rather swim in a pool full of Nutella or a pool full of maple syrup? Why?

    7. If you were an office item, what would you be? Why?

    8. This one is a bit of a different format. I'm going to write a sentence, then you're going to either copy/paste it or quote it with another sentence that starts with "and". Grab the sentences from the person before you so that, by the time the last person does this press conference, we have a small, weird story

For example: I start with "There are birds living in my apartment building."

Someone quotes and says, "There are birds living in my apartment building. And I think they're spying on me because i have never seen a bird that I trusted."

Next person quotes and says "There are birds living in my apartment building. And I think they're spying on me because i have never seen a bird that I trusted. And I also saw a crocodile across the street the other day, which really weirded me out."

You get the gist. Try to have enough of a response that the next person has something to work with. The more detail you add, the weird and funnier it can get.

    Here's our first sentence:

I've long known that lava lamps were the preferred weapon of my enemy.

  3. Happy offseason!

With the closure of S84, it's time again for the season donation. This season, the player with the highest shots blocked chose the donation location–with 146 shots blocked in the regular season and 23 in the playoffs, Poopy Peepants finished S84 with 169 (nice) shots blocked. Corey Kitson followed closely behind with 167 between regular season and playoffs.

Again this season, I decided to combine forwards and defenders instead of breaking them down since I got to ~double the total when the positions are combined. See the breakdown below:

    goals: 264 * 0.02 = $5.28
    shots blocked: 736 * 0.01 = $7.36
    hits: 1424 * 0.01 = $14.24

    ... for a total of $26.88!!!

@JardyB10 has decided that this season's donation will be going to the Canadian Women's Foundation. I had a little trouble with conversion rates, but I'm pleased that $26 USD / $32.33 CAD will be heading toward this organization. See below their mission & what the funds will be used for:

Diverse girls and young people ages 9-19 are struggling with emotional and physical well-being, connection, belonging, confidence, and healthy relationships. Over the last two years, the situation has become more urgent as resources for young people become scarcer through increased demand and lack of funding. Community programs funded through the Canadian Women’s Foundation provide the safe, supportive environment they need now. By supporting GOT YOUR BACK, you will help ensure that women, girls, and gender-diverse people get the programs and services they need.

A little will go a long way, and I'm looking forward to seeing how we can give back to local, state, provincial, and national communities, one small step at a time. See you next season!

So I have a feeling I’ll finish it in a couple days and was looking for suggestions on what to read next. It doesn’t have to be the same genre. I have no books at my place but I do live really close to an Indigo so I can go there easily. So let me know of any good books y’all enjoy!!

    what'd you decide on?

    in other news ...

i just read Why Fish Don't Exist by Lulu Miller, a book about David Starr Jordan, a taxonomist and one of the founders of the eugenics movement in the United States.

this book has me FUCKED UP. i didn't even realize it was a biography until after i had started reading it. the writing is amazing though, it reads like fiction and has autobiography laced into it, so you feel like the author is moving with you through the book. i loved it

i learned so much about eugenics that i never knew, and i had to call my friend to info dump all the shit i learned because it's insane. highly recommend, and if you decide to pick it up... let me know

  5. Also think that the meta conversation is a bit odd, and I don't really follow why we'd be hesitant to induct Vancouver players when the team was fully within bounds. Saying that players whose success was tied to Vancouver's domination of the league aren't relevant or should be overlooked feels similar (to me at least) to saying that players during really low scoring eras shouldn't be in the HOF because there are significantly better players now

Given the majority of defencemen on the ballot, and spanning across a couple higher/lower scoring eras, I thought I'd do the old Top 10 breakdowns Advantage used to do:

i don't understand what I'm looking at, why are there multiple numbers for each one

  7. It’s been a while since I've actually done a 6-tpe point task, and it feels a bit odd. I became eligible for pension and I’m just coasting now. I’ve decided to come around again for theme week.

This article is going to include the following:

    • Swearing
    • Links to articles that reference sex and other stuff that we’ve restricted since actually having a mod team

    Read at your own risk

2007–I was just 8 years old, some folks here weren’t even a thought yet, and other dorks were, well, here. Starting a hockey simulation league. The league, for a long time, was just a bunch of guys–boys, really–bein’ dudes. When you look back through the forum for what this league was like, it looks like a whole different place, despite seeing names pop up here and there over the last 9 years. (Of note, this forum only started existing in 2013, so that’s the earliest content we’ve got.)

There are some real gems still living on the site for public consumption, and I want to share them. This article is just going to be a collection of random shit that you find when you search the word “girl” in the search, because what could possibly go wrong?

December 2013: What could go wrong, asking VHLers for advice?

Oh, how the times have changed. We have countless threads have been created just in the last year of people 1) asking for advice and 2) offering advice (hit up Berocka for all your legal needs). Podcast question threads galore, and not too much engagement on those. While the linked thread doesn’t have a whole lot of content on there, I’m sure that it gave the podcasters something to talk about, much more than asking what their favorite color is.

January 2014: People fight about a graphic originally made for Emma Watson that was supposed to be Al Watson

This interaction is hilarious to me. By the time I showed up, the graders were long (I think) gone, and thank god. Your content used to be evaluated by other people and the amount of TPE you got was based on that evaluation. Actually bonkers.

I wish I could see the original graphic, because based on context, I think Emma Watson was the render. We have an oldhead that I forget is an oldhead, STZ, making an appearance in the thread with the notable contribution, “lmao. stoopid.” iconic.

July 2014: The first mention of a female user that I find in my not-very-thorough search

Jamie appears to have come and gone, last seen 2017. A shame, I wonder what the experience of coming back would be like.

I will say there is one comment that aged exceptionally well:

    OdUIlGVLcVvUSZwyRjqnNocY0LqhdwFPbRCRtHCl

    Nice work, Devise.

This thread also features a young eaglesfan … not trolling? I didn’t know there was an era where that was the case.

Ultimately I laughed reading this thread because it began as someone being butthurt about things that weren’t personal, saying “get it all out there and off your chest” and then they’re the only person that’s mad. I lack context, so maybe there’s something I’m missing, but who cares. This article isn’t about accuracy, it’s about laughing at people in the past

I’m calling this article a wrap because I don’t want to continue sifting through the sexism and sexualization of women but it was a fun go. The league has come a long way in the past 15 years, going from calling people a girl as an insult, posting pictures of themselves and calling each other ugly, and talking about their genitals then saying no homo to letting folks of all genders intermingle without it being weird or uncomfy all the time. I will say, though, that the insults were way better in 2014.
