Hey everyone, so for theme week today I just wanted to shout out someone who helped me out early in my VHL career. That person is @BladeMaiden. When I came back to the VHL in February or March, after many years away, a lot had changed. I recognized a few posters and that was really it. For no reason in particular, I decided to sign with the Reapers in my first and only season in the VHLM with Hans Gruber. Blade was the GM of that team.

We sucked, and spent the majority of the season in last place. But it never felt like it, as the locker room was always active and full of great conversation, no doubt spear-headed by our General Manager. She really took the time to help each and every player as well. Every new player was welcomed with open arms, and she went above and beyond to help you learn the ropes of player management. I think your first season, especially the first few weeks, are the most crucial in a player's development and is usually when you would decide to stick it out or go inactive. She definitely was a major reason why I stuck it out.

I've been in multiple sim leagues since returning to the world of sim, and that locker room experience was by far the best I've had. I know she isn't GM anymore, and it's a damn shame, but all GMs, not just in the VHL but in every sim league, should strive for that level of leadership.

Nice, I typically looks at the scores and post on Mondays just to stay consistent. I believe the final score was 6-5 in favor of the Storm so no one got the extra 1.

What is your best VHLM memory?

Signing with the Las Vegas Aces, my GM was Jubo07 and he helped me learn the ropes. It was at that time one of his past goalies, Alexander Pepper @Sonnet, reached out to me and taught me everything I know about being a VHLM goalie and although I do not speak to him often (if at all anymore) I still remember his kindness in helping me get started. It makes me think of how lucky i was to get such good guidance in my early VHLM career. Looking back it is funny to see how much things have changed or as @Jubo07 would say “Pepperidge farm remembers”

What originally made you want to be a Wrangler?

The VHL was packed with young talented goalies when I was being drafted. Honestly of the few slots that were open I was lucky to land one where the GM put full his full faith in me and let me be a Starting Goalie. I have been a starter from the very beginning of my career and that is more than what I lot of goalies can say.

There are always rumors about you leaving or retiring. If you love the Wranglers that much, why do you contemplate leaving?

One word sums it up…Politics. I love the game, my team, our logo and branding.  I also love the people I play with and can add that this season we brought in some exceptional talent. @Jubis and @enigmatic are a few of the amazing people I have met because I stuck with this team. These are the reasons that I remind myself of  when things get rough and I want to throw in the towel. For better or worse it is people who make me both want to stay and leave the VHL and at the moment the scale is tipped toward the staying side, but it could tip the other way very easily and I don't pretend like it isn't a likely possibility.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and or holiday and really try to spend some time with your family.

For all you young non-boomers out there, if you don't usually get your mom something for Christmas surprise her with something this year. It doesn't matter what it is, it's the effort and thought that counts.

Houston needs a Starting goaltender. Yes, we are not making playoffs. But hey - we want you anyway!

TheFlash got a reaction from Cxsquared in Hugh Jass Enters S71 Draft
Former Lacrosse star Hugh Jass will make his way to the VHL in Season 71. Growing up, Jass was a local Lacrosse star, being recruited to some major US schools such as Duke and Michigan State. He passed on those schools, choosing instead to play professional lacrosse in the National Lacrosse League. He had no intentions of playing Hockey, until he was approached by a VHLM scout early last month.
"He told me my size and strength would lend myself well to Hockey", Jass said, "I played a lot growing up, but never considered playing professionally. I'll join a minor league team and give it my best shot".
Jass will now get to select which minor league team he plays with, assuming he has any interest, and will work on his craft over the next season in a half. Standing at 6'5 and weighing in at 225 pounds, Jass is a physical player who has a ton of offensive potential. He'll look to be a leader on and off the ice, using his experience playing on Canada's national lacrosse team.

TheFlash got a reaction from jRuutu in Gruber finds success in sophomore season
Hans Gruber was drafted 28th overall by the Wolves in the S66 draft, and had a hard time adjusting to his limited ice time. In 72 games, he scored 8 goals and added 21 assists. Not terrible for a rookie, but he did what he could with him minimal ice time. This season, Gruber was promoted to the 2nd line and had the chance to play with the league leader in points, Rauno Palo. Gruber scores 22 goals and had 23 assists for 45 points. This was all done with limited playing time, only seeing the man advantage as a spare. The successful season could put GM Beaviss in a hard spot, as he has a number of solid young players, and will likely lose one of them to expansion.

Gruber is on pace to be over 600 tpe by the start of his third season and will likely top his point totals from this season, especially on a less talented expansion team where he could potentially be one of their stars. Time will tell what will happen!!
