  1. Overall I mostly like what you have going on here. I like the general blue tint to the whole graphic with the exception of Dubas' face. I also like how you incorporated the logo into the background of your graphic. I assume that there is no name because we should recognize person. My suggestions would be to have your text a bit more distinct. I do like your choice of font and your use of lower case. Nice work 8/10
  2. 1. How does it feel to be a Steel? Pretty awesome. I was thrilled when adison @adison reached out to offer me the opportunity of playing for the Steel. It didn't take me long to decide !!! 2. What do you think about your performance so far in the JST? I am more than pleased. Noodles has the lead in point production with 16 in 6 games. Pretty much beast mode. 3. Any changes you think should happen with the lines or for players to join the team? The Steel are 6 - 0. I don't think any changes are necessary at this point. 4. What is your favorite Sport to watch? Also favorite sport to play? Well, hockey of course. I watch it quite a bit, but don't play it so much anymore. 5. If you had the chance to move a team or create one what city would you make it HQ? In my previous persona of Isau DaMoose I made a play to have a VHL team placed in Swords, Ontario. I stand by my choice. 6. Favorite Candy? Anything with chocolate in it.
  3. I like what you have going on in your graphic. The predominantly blue color palette works very well. No color clashes. I like your subject choice. The player shows great intensity. I also like the reflection in the player's visor. That was pretty cool. The font choice for the text element was well-chosen. I like how you have defined the first and last names and the color gradient in the last name. My minor suggestion would be to make the players shoulder flash a bit more distinct. Good graphic. Thanks for sharing. 9/10
  4. 1.) Ya gotta believe. If we all do our jobs, we can go deep !! 2.) Rooster wasn't holding back. He/She/They give it 100% every time on the ice. A true pro. 3.) With regards to Fuhr, part of his success is his incredible skillset. The other part of his success is what his teammates are doing in front of him. 4.) Other than having to pack all my necessities and sleeping in frequently uncomfortable beds, my game day routine is much the same as for a home game. Wouldn't want to put a hex on things don'cha know !!! 5.) It's gotta be deep sea fishing. I do a lot of freshwater fishing, but have never tried for those really big salt water fish. 6.) I would like to return to northern Scotland/Orkney/Outer Isles. That place is truly mystical.
  5. Interestingly enough, my new guy, Noodles Marconi, is starting off in Mexico City.....same as Isau DaMoose........fate, karma.......
  6. Sales @thadthrasher, been there with ya. Just retied Isau DaMoose. He had a great ride, although Riga suffered mightily at the hands of STHS during his stay there...which, coincidentally, was his entire VHL career.
  7. Ya, that kinda concerned me a bit
  8. Well, fishy @fishy let me one of the many who really do appreciate your presence on this forum. Please take pride in your accomplishments, even if, sometimes, they are not well met. Why am I here ? Good question. And one I really don't think about much. I do like the sense of community. but let me make a comment here. I have been part of forum-based "activities" for many, many years. When I first started, it was the Wild West...anything goes, no respect for gender, race or creed. That being said, at the time my mother passed. One of the guys (from Georgia USA, I am in Northern Ontario) actually picked up the phone and called me with condolences and prayers. That just blew me away !! So, ya, the community thing is one of the reasons I am here. Fundamentally, this forum/game is a source of entertainment. I enjoy hockey...always have since I started playing more than 50 years ago. So, gravitating to a hockey-based game was pretty natural. Third point being that with all the covid shit that has come down in the last 2 years, I have been kind of trapped in my home for more than 6 months a year. May - September I am pretty much at my cottage with no internet so things slow down as far as the VHL is concerned. But, otherwise, with no escape to sun, sand and margaritas, all I do is shovel snow !!! Any way, fishy, like you, I enjoy being here. If I didn't I would be long gone !! But I have to say in closing that this does not occupy a whole big chunk of my life. I am not consumed by these types of games/forums. When you read what I post, you get what you get...I am not the most sensitive person in the world and I know it, but that's who I am. No veneer....
  9. Ya. the ponds seems to get smaller and the fish larger. Ain't it the truth !!
  10. So, on March 5, Noodles Marconi, in his eighth VHLM game with the Mexico City Kings, stepped it up and produced his first multi-point game. He was instrumental in 3 of the 4 goals scored by the Kings. 2 Goals and 1 Assist. This brought his point total at that time to 5. In one game he managed to more than double his production over the previous seven games. What really adds to this accomplishment is that Noodles was able to do this playing only 11:52 minutes and no power play time. Unfortunately, this effort was somewhat wasted as the Houston Bulls prevailed over the Kings by a score of 6 - 4. Noodles warmed up part way through the second period by getting a secondary assist on a goal by AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337. He then blasted one by Ali Des Aves @ViprVipe for his first goal. Late in the third period Noodles was again able to chip one by Des Aves for his second of the game. This game seems to have ignited Noodles as he has been on a point per game pace since. 11. I too am very fond of skylines or cityscapes. The Bratislava skyline is very distinctive, so I can see why you use it extensively. I like the color scheme in that you use the colors that are incorporated in to the Bratislava Watchmen logo. Your use of the VHLE name multiple times across the centre of the graphic is very effective and informative. Your text stands out and is easy to read. Your player seems to be very proud of playing for the Watchmen. Overall, I like what you have going on here. 9/10
  12. I like what you have going on here. Your color scheme seems very cohesive and appropriate for Toronto. Your choice of render is effective. Both show intensity. Also the way the renders face opposite one another tends to draw ones attention to the center and the name. In terms of suggestions, firstly I think you should work on the text a bit. Your player's name tends to get a bit lost in the background. Also the team name could be a bit larger. Overall I like this 8.5/10
  13. 1.) No, I don't think we needed to trade. The team looks pretty solid as is. 2.) AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337 is an experienced VHL player. I am glad to see him so active again. 4.) Ya I expect Brandt Fuhr to come up with one more shut out by season's end. The rest of us can help him accomplish that if we do our jobs. 5.) Having a high production guy like Matt Rooster on the roster is essential for playoff success. 7.) I won't be drafted this year as I recreated just after the trade deadline, so before I am drafted I would like to max out TPE for the VHLM 8.) No stress. Just looking forward to Spring. I am pretty tired of that fucking white stuff !!
  14. A Conversation With Noodles Noodles Marconi had been approached to do a number of interviews on his entry to the VHLM. Somewhat overwhelmed by this he reached out to his mentor Isau DaMoose who suggested that he only allow himself to be interviewed by Gale Force, a trusted journalist who had been involved extensively with Isau’s career. Gale: Good Morning Noodles !! Welcome to the VHLM and thanks for taking the time to have this conversation. Noodles: Hey there, Gale. We’re going to blame it all on DaMoose as he suggested this talk. In fact, he sent me a picture of you. Wait a sec while I get it off my phone. Gale: Ya, Isau had a great career and it was always fun and informative to talk to him. I am a bit intrigued with your involvement with Isau. Noodles: Of course, I mean how did a boy from the Alberta Badlands ever connect with a Riga Reign legend from Swords anyway? Right ? Well, I had been playing in an amateur tournament in Toronto when I met a friend by the name of Rinky McDangle. Ya I know he’s got an off the wall name, but anyways, he happened to be a cousin of Isau’s and so I met him. I followed his career pretty closely and was impressed with his determination and effort despite all the set backs that Riga had during Isau’s career. When I decided to turn pro, Isau reached out with some well-timed advice. Gale: But enough about Isau. Let me introduce to my readers/viewers Noodles Marconi who very recently began his pro career by signing with the Mexico City Kings. So, Noodles, can you tell us a bit about your background ? Noodles: Sure. As you know I was raised in the Alberta Badlands area. My family raised skinny cattle and were involved in the local hockey scene. I played my minor hockey in the nearby towns until I was drafted by the Drumheller Dragons. From there, on to the University of Calgary Dinos and, subsequently, the Mexico City Kings where, coincidentally Isau began his career. Pretty standard pattern. Gale: Did the CoVid pandemic slow down your progression ? Noodles: Well, ya, as much as it did other players of my age. There was a whole year where I did not play competitive hockey. Fortunately during the winter, our pond freezes over, So I scraped it off with the tractor and, with a makeshift Zamboni, smoothed off the surface. That way I was able to skate regularly and work on my shot. You wouldn’t believe the number of lost pucks I found come that Spring ! Gale: So, Noodles, in your opinion, what do you have to offer the Kings, or any other team, for that matter? Noodles: Well, I think a couple of things. Firstly, I try to be a team player. Team first, individual accomplishments second. The individual stuff will come if one is a team player. Secondly, I am working on a 200 foot game. That means I want to be able to contribute at both ends of the ice. There isn’t much point in scoring a few goals and being a defensive liability. I have to work on developing a number of skills in order to achieve these things, but that is what the minors are for. Gale: They say you are a little vocal on the ice. What’s up with that ? Noodles: Ya, I like to chirp the other guys. (big grin) Gale: So can you explain what all this chirping is about ? Noodles: Well, I can give you what I think chirping is all about. However, what I think may not be what a lot of the other guys think. First off a chirp, to me, is a good-natured verbal barb directed at an opposing player. The intent is to throw him/her off his game a bit. To me chirping in no way involved racial or cultural slurs. Nor does it involve comments about a player's mother, wife or girlfriend. That still leaves the door open for a lot of stuff. For example, when you are involved in a chirp fest you could say to the other player “I had heard a better chirp from a dead bird !” or “Keep your chin up 21, there are always beer leagues for guys like you.” Chirping isn't about who can use the most profanity, it's all about sending the zinger that leaves someone speechless. A quick wit and a vocabulary will take you far. And that is it for Noodles’ Elements of Chirping 101. Gale: Wow! I didn’t know that a little bantering in hockey actually had a purpose. Noodles: Ya, well, chirping has been around since likely when hockey started. It can be a lot of fun if approached the right way. Gale: So, Noodles, who would you say has been the most influential in your young hockey career ? Noodles: I have had some fabulous coaches who have taught me to be a better hockey player, but in terms of being the most influential it has got to be my mom and dad. The commitment to me that they showed in driving me all over the place to play or practice as well as running the family ranch shows real dedication and tireless effort. Those are huge influences in how I approach the pro game. Gale: So, any serious injuries ? Noodles: Ya, but no, not really. I mean us hockey players all have our hangnails now and again. I gues my most serious injury occurred in Junior. I was chirping this other play. He was big, huge even. In fact, around the league he was referred to as “Sasquatch”: Anyway, I was chirping him about being slow and having hands of stone when, suddenly, I ran into his right fist. I lost a couple of chiclets and about 10 minutes of game time while I regained my senses. After some really good dental work my mom was still apoplectic. She said it changed my smile forever. My da is a taciturn sort. He just grunted and made a comment about my lack of judgment. Other than that, the usual groin pulls and small muscle tears, but modern medicine and truly excellent training staffs can make it so that you can come back from slight injuries very rapidly. In fact, if you follow the training regime you can mostly eliminate them entirely. Gale: So you must be plenty pissed at this guy ? Noodles: Not really, actually not at all. Sasquatch is really a gentle giant.. Intelligent and caring. I think he is teaching English Literature in one of the Alberta public high schools now. Although, I think he still moonlights in MMA events. Gale: So, any significant others? Noodles: Gale, do I detect a personal angle here ? Gale: You big old country flirt. Just get on with it……sigh Noodles: Ya sorry about that. It is a family show after all. So there is an Alberta girl that I have known for just about my whole life, Abigail (Abby) McCarty. We are the same age and lived in the same area, so we started school together in Junior Kindergarten. For the first few years of elementary school we were inseparable. They called us M&M, you know, like the candy. Hockey pulled me away from all that, but we are still in pretty close contact. After high school Abby went to Lac Cruces, New Mexico to attend New Mexico State University where she got a full ride for barrel racing. There aren’t very many colleges that have an NCAA rodeo team. Her pony is just the sweetest ride and an athlete his own self too. My own horse, Old Ned, is OK. I mean he is robust and is an Energizer Bunny in that he just keeps going and going, but comparing him to Abby’s pony is like comparing an Aveo to a Ferrari. Gale: So you have your first off season coming up. What is in store for you ? Noodles: Well, I intend to go back to Alberta. I have some on-ice sessions scheduled in Calgary, but most of my time will be spent helping out on the ranch. It may not seem real exciting to some folks and you are sure not going to get rich at it, but it certainly is a satisfying way of life. Gale: So this is just in. You managed a three point game against the Houston Bulls. Congrats !! Noodles: Ya that was my first multi point game in the VHLM, hopefully not my last. Unfortunately it was in a losing cause as the Bulls trounced us (the Kings) 6 - 4. Gale: Can you describe how you got those points, Noodles ? Noodles: Sure, but first of all I have to say that I am playing with some really talented guys. I couldn’t do anything if it were not for the team around me. I started about halfway through the second period with a secondary assist on a goal by my good buddy AK92 Wit da Hoodie. @hedgehog337 A couple of fast passes and he was in alone and buried it. Later on in the period it was almost the reciprocal play AK92 Wit da Hoodies started it off, dishing to Callum Murray @Berocka who set me up for a beaut. I got our fourth goal late in the third period on a nice give and go from Callum Murray. I was pretty happy with the way we played overall. Its just too bad we couldn’t keep the puck away from our net a bit better. The Bulls did get 49 shots ! Gale: But, in general, the Mexico City Kings are having a pretty good season though, don’t you think? Noodles: Ya, pretty OK, I guess. Overall we are in fifth place in the VHLM with 85 points and fourth place at 88 points, could be obtainable. However, the Houston Bulls, Philadelphia Reapers and Saskatoon Wild are the class of the league with each team having over 100 points this season. Those guys will be hard to beat in the playoffs Gale: So where do you go from here, Noodles? Noodles: It would seem that my current trajectory short term will be to stay with the Mexico City Kings until the end of next season when I become draft eligible. At that point, depending on how my skill development has gone I will either play in the VHLM or VHLE. Either would be fine and I have no preference as to what team I play for as long as I can contribute in some kind of meaningful way. Gale: So, Noodles, if you had to describe yourself as a hockey player in three words, what would they be ? Noodles: Ahhh, Gale, you know I am more verbose than that, but here goes: passionate, team-oriented and efficient. I think if I had that engraved on my retirement stick I would have done alright. Gale: My standard question. Do you have any pre-game rituals ? Noodles: That is an interesting question because until just recently I did not believe that I did. But, upon joining the Mexico City Kings I found my self doing the same things in a patterned way. For example, I like my extra large coffee before a game. It does little to jazz me up. I just like it. I find a great deal of peace in the locker room, changing into my hockey gear surrounded by the same guys. I have to admit that I always seem to dress right to left. I don’t think about it though, it just happens. There are players that have some really fixed rituals, but you know about those pretty much. Gale: Well, Noodles, our chat has just about come to an end. I would like to thank you for an engaging few minutes and for sharing who you are with your fans. I trust we can do this again as your career progresses. Noodles: It was my pleasure. Thanks for having me on your show. It was a slice !! And, ya, let's do this again sometime real soon. Bye for now. 16. I like what you have going on here. The simplicity of the graphic is very effective. The inclusion of the two trophies is also quite informative. The use of a "cameo" for the player is also effective and relatively unique. I would also like to commend you on an excellent logo swap. Your color scheme is pleasing to the eye as there are no clashes. Everything blends well togather. I might suggest making the text pop a little more as it seems to get lost on the left hand side.
  17. Noodles Marconi Junior Review Introducing Noodles Marconi. This badboy is straight out of the Alberta Badlands, referred often as “Badlands tough” as everything alive in the badlands either wants to bite you or poison you (in most cases both). Little is known about Noodles’ childhood other than his family were ranchers in one of the most rugged places on the planet. Noodles’ minor hockey career was mostly uninspiring due to his long gangly frame (hence the name “Noodles”). He followed pretty much a normal trajectory for Canadian kids, every two years moving on to the next division. It was not until the summer of his 18th year when he began to fill out that Noodles began to be considered for a hockey career. Noodles hockey awakening came when he was invited to play for the Drumheller Dragons. Here he spent two seasons developing his skills and becoming physically larger and stronger. Originally considered to be a journeyman right winger, Noodles surprised his coaches (and likely himself) by turning in a final season point total of 40 goals and 40 assists. After graduating from high school, Noodles entered the University of Calgary where he spent his undergraduate years playing for the legendary University of Calgary Dinos. Again, thought to be a journeyman player, Noodles hit the score sheet on a regular basis much to the delight of his coaches and the fans. When interviewed, his coaches unanimously declared that Noodles played with the most heart that they had seen in a long while. They commented positively on his defense and scoring ability. They also suggested that Noodles needed to work on his skating and strength. Recently, Noodles announced his decision to turn pro. This was met with limited response from the VHLM with only Mississauga and Mexico City showing interest. Noodles chose to try to play for Mexico City, having just recently accepted their FA offer. When asked why, he responded, “ That is where Isau DaMoose played. DaMoose is the hockey player after whom I model my game. He played a two-way game and was a consistent contributor. I am sure that his time in Mexico City had something to do with that!” “Also,” Noodles stated, “I could be spending a season and a half with Mexico as I won’t be draft eligible until the end of next season. That gives me time to work on my game and to be a more complete player.” “ At the end of the day,” Noodles concluded, “I just hope I can contribute to the Kings’ success. I have always played for the logo on the front of my jersey, not the name on the back. And that ain’t gonna change !!” Word Count: 446
  18. 1. What one book or book series would you most want to be marooned on an island with? Likely the Bob Lee Swagger series . 2. What do you think of the universal DH coming this season in MLB - if we ever have a season? I am a bit of a purist, so I have always liked to see pitchers hit...or at least try to. 3. If you know any mythology (Greek, Roman, Celtic, Norse, Egyptian, ....) which god or goddess do you think is the coolest? Although not goddesses, I am partial to the Valkyrie. 1.) What one attribute is the most imp[important for an athlete playing a team sport ? 2.) Why are oranges round (mostly)? 3.) What brand of equipment do you favor?
  19. Player Information Username: Eynhallow Player Name: Noodles Marconi Recruited From: Returning Age: 21 Position: RW Height: 72 in. Weight: 187 lbs. Birthplace: Italy Player Page @VHLM GM
  20. 1. How is your player doing 12 games in? Considering that this is Isau's last season and depreciation has taken its toll, I am pretty happy with the way he is performing. 21 points in 12 games is OK. 2. This is the hottest start we've had in a few seasons, what do you think is the main difference so far? Sandstrom = stud defenceman. 3. Vancouver are 10-1, do you think the meta dragon will be slain this year? Not unless STHS is tweaked somewhat. Meta players have certainly exposed STHS vulnerability. 4. What's your favorite Olympic sport that isn't Ice Hockey - and if you don't watch at all, which one would you choose if you were forced to watch? Any of the Alpine ski events are pretty exciting. 5. Who is your Mount Rushmore of sports athletes? (I.e. mine is Brady, Tiger, Lebron, Wayne) Good question: Wayne Gretzky, Jackie Robinson, Tom Brady, Dr. J. (Julius Erving) 6. Is Discord over moderated? I can't honestly say that I have noticed any moderation at all.
