    After starting my first player in the vhl I have made many mistakes and learned stuff I have also done things which I am pretty proud of.  So to pull a hard flex of my 4-5 weeks of experience I will try to explain stuff for people that may have just started their career.

    At the beginning of a player career, you will read the rules and try to get a general understanding of what to do.  After I read it I got the understanding that tpe is good and you want as much of it as possible, I saw that you could claim it from the "my player" tab.  After pressing around the tab I found a button which was welfare, for a newbie like I was then it was very tempting because it was fast and easy tpe.  After being offered a contract and accepting it I got some help from an AGM which guided me through tpe.  After some explaining later I got to understand the dangerous yet tempting welfare button which gave you easy tpe but you couldn't claim max capped tpe, I was lucky because this was on a Saturday night and I didn't have to wait a full week to utilize the max potential of capped tpe.  So the underline for welfare is, Welfare sucks if you are planning to claim maxed capped tpe, but is good if you don't have the time to write for example media spot where you earn 6 capped tpe.  Note that welfare cuts your max capped tpe per week down to 10 instead of 12.

    PRACTICE FACILITY
    You could say practice facility is the nice version of Welfare,  you get the same amount of tpe, your capped tpe limit isn't reduced and it's uncapped which leaves more capped tp for your player to earn thus makes him better.  There is no reason whatsoever to not claim practice facility because it the most accessible and easiest way to earn tpe.

    Capped tpe is the Jesus of VHL.  Capped tpe is the best way to get tpe as you can earn up to 12 tpe per week from it.  Capped tpe is also the main source of tpe the whole league uses, if you claim max capped tpe per week every week you will produce a lot of points and will be drafted highly.  The biggest mistake a new person who is looking to be active makes is claiming the welfare option as it reduces the max capped tpe you can earn in a week.  Capped tpe lets you do tasks such as media spots, trivia, press conferences, articles, podcasts or writing reviews.  These are only some of the many ways to earn capped tpe.  As you can earn at max of 12 capped tpe per week you will be drafted highly if you average 12 capped tpe per week.

    UNCAPPED TPE
    Uncapped tpe is like capped tpe but there is no consistent way of earning it week to week.  There is nothing bad about uncapped tpe but as I said there is no way to get tpe from it every week.  Although there is no consistent way to earn uncapped tpe there are events like for example the theme week last week.  In that event, you earned an extra 6 uncapped tpe from media spots, since it was uncapped tpe you could earn the usual 12 capped tpe from the week which allowed many layers to earn up to 18 tpe 1 week which for me a fairly new player was very generous because it allowed me to get more into the league thus making me get more points per sim instead of just getting a point after 1 or 2 sims.  There is another way to claim uncapped tpe which is the first-gen bonus which allows a fairly new player like me to get into the league by giving players who passed 100 tpe a free 10 uncapped tpe, I recently claimed this which gave me 10 tpe to apply which I did today so I am hoping for some points today, especially if I can get my capped tpe from other tasks I've done.

    Now that you have some tpe to spend you shouldn't just throw it out into the different categories.  Especially if you just started out, one category to avoid too 100% at the start is leadership. If you just started out you should avoid it at all costs because it is meant for captains and if you just started out you will not be a captain and the points you could have spent on that you could've spent on for example passing or scoring to help your team perform better.  If you are unsure on what to use your tpe for you should ask the "newcomers help" channel in the discord, I started out my tpe spending there and got some advice from nice players, I would recommend spreading your tpe throughout defense, scoring, passing, puck handling and skating.  This is what I'm doing and for my first 60 games, I've got 16 points and +13  +/-.  This does not mean that you will get the same exact results as I have, you may get worse results or even better results.

    THE DRAFT
    Depending on when you join the league you will get drafted or not, since I joined mid-season I have not got drafted and I will next season.  After accumulating 250 tpe you will be forced to move up to the VHL where you can get drafted by different teams and such, one thing I like with this league is that there are draft interviews where you can basically choose where you want and don't want to end up, for example, I don't want to get drafted by a special team so if I get an interview by them I will say that I don't want to get drafted to them because in my case they are rivals to the team I actually support IRL.

    Ever since the start of my career my player hasn't been producing many points, but this last week my player started going crazy, i got point after point every sim and even earned my first top 3 placement were i actually got the first star.  I even got 5 points in 1 sim which i am really proud of.  The reason to this new found success could be many reasons which still are unclear to me.

    Maybe it was because i have consistently been getting maxed capped tpe per week, luck or maybe the taco gods blessed me.  But i think that this is because my semi-hard work is the biggest reason to this and i hope that my success will continue so i can achieve Gustislav Nasherov's career goals which are: winning any silverware, have 250+ tpe at the start of the summer and be an important and useful part of a team where i can help them reach their goals so they can help me reach mine.

    But in the meanwhile of me trying to reach my goals i will perform the best i can in the Mexico city kings, i am really enjoying being apart of them and if i start a new player when Gustislav nasherov retires i will make sure to get thats players first contract to the Mexico city kings.

    Now while I've come back from my amazing (seriously would of rather have went to somewhere fun like 🌯MEXICO CITY 🌯 rather than Whitehorse) VHL vacation, I decided that it's time to really pick up a quarantine hobby that is both fun and is actually a good skill to have overall. And that skill I decided to pick up was baking!

    There's something so calming and relaxing about the baking process compared to regular cooking, as there is a lot more waiting while things are in the oven for example where you can focus on other parts of the baking process...or take a quick 10 minute break to get a CHEL match in 👀

    Now with my new hobby having lots of different creations and ideas of what can be made, I figured what is better than mixing my two favourite things; the Toronto Social Club and Baked Goods!

    Thus, please find my fellow Legion members as delicious treats!

    @fromtheinside Eszterházy torta

    Now I haven't had the chance to make this amazing dish as of yet (mostly because it's very complicated and hard to perfectly do it) but I can't think of anyone better than Mr. Scotty Kaberle himself to represent this cake. When I first arrived in Budapest, I wanted to have something sweet and authentic. This cake is by far my favourite dessert on the planet and blows me away everytime I have it. It reminds me a lot of how Scotty was the first person I really connected with in the VHL and I'll always have a soft spot for the second coming of Komisarek.

    @BOOM Black Forest Cake

    Black Forest Cake has a special place in my heart like no other, so I think that's perfect for BOOM-city himself since he's still my valentine 😍 Black Forest Cake was my go-to for every single birthday cake I had as a child, and although I could always go without the cherries on top and I was never a big fan of most cakes, I would always demolish this year after year. Sweet, but not sweet enough to make you sick and tired of eating it and you'd always want more. Nothing better than the best nostalgic cake to me personally for one of the best new member of the Social Club.

    @Peace Cheesecake

    I mean, I couldn't pick a better dessert for the cheesiest person I've met thus far. The amount of dad-jokes and puns in the locker-room I believe might have played a part in the self-destruction of my laptop. With that being said, a cheesecake is a classic and original, and not many people hate this dessert as it's that well liked. Peace is a wonderful GM and he made such a big turn around for the Legion team where we have such a close knit amazing group, and I could tell after our intense and long draft interview that Toronto would be a perfect fit for me, and I'm glad to have been drafted here immensely.

    @Smarch Ice Cream Cake

    Smarch is the best pick-up in Toronto by far, and everyone knows my love for BOOM so that says a lot. But I assume everyone else in the Social Club would say the same as this is the sweetest and chillest guy in the locker-room. Every day to wake up to his messages about the upcoming games and to enjoy the day or the weekend is what I look forward to whenever I see a notification in the locker-room early on in the day. An underrated cake due to it's bit obscurity (since most people go for easier and regular cakes), but it's easily one of the best cakes possible to have due to it's uniqueness. I think that description suits Smarch absolutely fine as people didn't really notice him in the deal that sent him to Toronto, but I assume Smarch will prove people wrong soon enough as he's an amazing personality and player for us.

    @ROOKIE745 Macaron

    Rookie will go down in history for Toronto, and he's an absolute class act who loves this team through and through and everyone in the locker-room would tell you that it's heartbreaking that we don't have a large chance to get him a cup here. Despite all the trades that really downgraded our chance to make a playoff push, he wanted to stick with the team all the way through to the end. What is a better way to show off a class act like himself than one of the fanciest desserts around like a macaron. We love you @ROOKIE745❤️

    @Rayzor_7Gingersnap Cookies

    Rayz is a beast and a half, and he's a firecracker at that. He will tell you how it is and russle some feathers, but he also has a sweet side to him that shows because he's a core member of our social club. Drafted alongside him in the last VHL Draft, we came right into Toronto together and I believe we both helped shape the Legion into what it is now. I think a gingersnap is a perfect representation of him as he has that kick of cinnamon but overall deep inside he's a fluffy sugary boy, even if he hides that side of him 😉

    @DoktorFunk Chocolate Cupcake

    Now this may be a chocolate cupcake, but don't mistake that this Jolly Green Giant cupcake wouldn't be as green as possible! Entering into the locker-room, several of us were rookies coming up prepping for our first VHL season, and Jolly was one of these people. Friendly and funny, the team wouldn't be the same if he wasn't there from the very beginning which perfectly suits him being a cupcake as nobody hates a cupcake.

    I'm very sorry to everyone I've missed, but my brain doesn't hold enough information to think up more baked goods to associate people with, but everyone on the Toronto Legion team plays an integral part in making our team so close together.

    I hope you enjoyed my awful attempt at matching people with baked goods using somewhat suspect descriptions!

    1. We are now just 2 points out of 2nd overall, do you think we can make a late challenge for 1st?

    I don't think we will place 2nd. I know that we will finish 2nd or higher.

    2. We had a couple trades go through recently, do you think they are what we need to make a cup run?
    My brain is pretty microscopic when it comes to players around the league, but if Hylands thinks it's good then i trust him.

    3. Of the 4 teams at the bottom of the VHLM, who is most likely to make a late push into the playoffs?
    I don't think it will happen but most likely would be Halifax 21st IMO.

    4. What would be your ultimate cheat meal?
    Fried cheese sticks, pizza with a lot of cheese burgers on and the biggest cup i could find filled with coke.

    5. What made you choose the username you currently use?
    Flip my first name around and take the first 3 letters.
    6. How often do you exercise or try to stay active during the week?
    I've got 2 Handball lessons a week + 2 p.e passes per week which are pretty intense.

    It's that time of year where love and romance is in the air, and Kristof Welch is no different. Some could say he's a diehard romantic, but in simpler terms Welch would rather call himself someone who just wants to give his entire heart to that special someone who strikes him right in his heart.

    Usually, for Valentine's Day, Kristof likes to start off the day with making his special someone breakfast in bed with a warm cup of coffee, and following it up by spending the afternoon baking some delicious snickerdoodle cookies. After that, the options are endless. Museums? He's a connoisseur of the arts. Long walk on the beach? Cliche, but everyone loves it deep down. Sit down and watch Netflix all day? Well, it is still COVID times, so he's down for a chill day.

    However, at the end of the day, it's undebatable that he will cook you a fresh steak dinner on a candle lit dinner and some red wine. There's nothing quite as romantic at the end of the day than a giant slab of meat and some classy alcohol to chat the night away to.

    You might be wondering why this is titled a confession?

    That is because I want to do everything above with that special someone that hit me recently with their cupid's arrow.

    @BOOM, how does this sound and better yet, will you be my Valentine? 😍

    I patiently await your answer with open arms and an open heart 💘

    Vat got a reaction from Ricer13 in Chess tournament
    One day in February I was bored and decided to go browse through the forum and saw a special post: VHL CHESS TOURNEY.  I figured that I could join just because I had nothing else to do, so I did and got invited to the discord server by @Ricer13 and joined.

    After playing 4-5 group games and winning them all, I was surprised because I thought I was a lot rustier at chess so I wondered how far I could reach with my very little experience of a 4th-grade chess lesson, after reading some of the chats that happened there I saw that @hedgehog337 was some serious competition and decided to challenge him, I GOT REKT.  Because I had nothing else to do I decided to borrow a chess book from the library where I live and started reading it.  I learned some basic strategies and some moves that I thought were weird for example the ''En passant'' where if a pawn moves 2 squares and ends up next to another pawn the pawn that didn't move could capture the other pawn diagonally even while the pawn that moved was right beside it, (I know my explaining sucks lol).

    So after some reading and some games against random people I went on to gather a winning streak in my group games, I completed the group undefeated but I still have one goal left in this tournament which is to beat @hedgehog337 in the semis, the playoffs start on Monday so I'm very excited to see how that plays out, to prepare for that game I have analyzed his game a lot and found what he tends to do in certain situations.

    Vat got a reaction from Juice in A sunny vacation
    By this only being my 3rd week in the league I think that I should get a well-deserved vacation to a sunny place and I'm not thinking of the beach of Miami or Spain, I'm thinking of Mexico! A trip with my sombrero hat and my fish slides, you may be wondering how fish slides would look like, and here is what they look like:

    Pretty drippy right?

     Activity number uno
    The first logical thing I would do is, of course, feasting on some burritos and Tacos, I like my tacos in soft bread and with guacamole spread on it, then I put my cucumber and corn on it, my meat then some spicy sauce, jalapeno, lettuce, crushed chips (slightly salted) and finish it off with some more jalapeno.  Of course I wouldn't eat a perfectly good taco without my sombrero hat and a glass of Capri sun, no margarita because that's illegal for my age.  While doing this I hope that  Mexico city will continue to deliver its heat while my ears will be steaming because I can't handle hot food, it would be pretty hot so I would probably drink my capri sun pretty fast and have nothing left to drink, know what I do then? I get my drip from my fish slippers ofc and they generate so much drip that they produce water for me to drink.

    Activity number dos
    The second thing I would like to do is to learn some salsa moves, salsa moves are necessary and if I master them I will get 99 skating.  So to learn this I would go to any Mexican bar and find some random girl and be like
    “Hola Mexican gurl, u teach me salsa and I give you salsa."
    “of course Swedish boi, but I only accept super spicy salsa."
    So she teaches me salsa and I get 99 skatings and I can also impress all my friends with my salsa skills.  Then she asks me for super spicy salsa so I give her the spiciest salsa I own and she says
    "oh yasssssss, very spicy salsa thank you"

    Mission number tres
    The last thing I need to do is actually get home from Mexico.  Now I've two options, plane or boat.  Personally, I would take the plane, but not just any plane, I would, of course, have a plane with one of those flags at the back of it.  Now you are probably wondering what the flag would say, and of course, it would say "Fish slides are the drippiest slides", and a picture of them.  Even tho it's great in Mexico it would be very nice to be home for the Beijer hockey games, which is a nations cup where Sweden participates in, this year I want to watch it even more badly because several of the players from Rögle (the team I support) is in the team. I would also like to watch some of the actual season because it is coming to its end and the playoffs are soon here.

    Vat reacted to Laine in VHL Mental Health Initiative
    This is something I've wanted to do for a while, and with recent events not only in the league but in my personal life, I've decided now is a great time.

    I'm planning on beginning the VHL's first (to my knowledge, which isn't a lot) mental health initiative. I've talked to quite a few members about helping this thing gain some traction, so I hope it is able to do that.

    Times are tough right now. COVID has made our lives a lot harder and mental health numbers are higher than normal. I just want to put it out there, you are not alone. If you need help, there are many members around the league who are willing to help you and a lot of resources available. I'm hoping to create a discord server that has some resources in it and where people can just talk. If you are struggling, people will listen without judgement. The best thing you can do is talk now and reach out. It seems scary, especially if it feels embarrassing to ask for help, but it is the best option for you in the long run. I'll put a few resources here that I received from @Emi.

    One resource is a free app called Wysa. The app allows you to talk to a friendly AI penguin who listens to your thoughts, helps you get them into order, and gives you a few simple exercises to resolve your problems.
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bot.touchkin&hl=en_GB&gl=US

    If you do not have google play, I am sure there are similar apps available to you.
    Futhermore, there's a discord group ran by people who want to take care of your mental health, you can get one to one conversations with medical professionals OR just people who want to help and you can talk to them about your worries.
    https://discord.gg/thehaven

    Finally, this next resource is only for users in the UK. If you put the name of your GP surgery into this page on the NHS website it will tell you which free counselling services there are in your area. Most of the time you don't have to speak to a GP first before signing up for the services.
    https://www.nhs.uk/service-search/find-a-psychological-therapies-service/

    There will be a resource board in the server. Feel free to add any resources you think will be helpful.

    I'm hoping this can spread around the league so people know they aren't alone in their fight.

    If the idea to create a server is a good one, I can start it. However, I will not moderate heavily as it will be for the community's benefit. That being said, if anything that is uploaded is deemed inappropriate, it will be removed immediately.

    Also, on this thread, if you have any thoughts, feel free to empty them. I want to know how people are doing and how me and others can help.

    "Well...what to do now?"

    Despite being chosen by Toronto in the recent VHL Draft and being told to prep for the upcoming season, because he's coming straight up to the VHL, Kristof Welch was still technically in Whitehorse, Yukon after finishing his first and only VHLM season. After the adrenaline of entering into the playoffs, the disappointment of being swept, and the anxiety of the draft, the off-season was quite a journey and Welch was in need of a well needed rest before packing up his things to get to Toronto.

    However, while many of the other VHL'ers are chilling on nice sunny beaches in places like Miami or Hawaii, Welch will have to be creative in what some could say is... not someone's first choice for a vacation destination.

    Thus, please welcome to my guide of what to do in Whitehorse, Yukon if you ever end up going there for a vacation (or as we call it, why the hell did you choose here to come for vacation)!

    First Activity: Camping and Fishing at Fox Lake!

    Now while the Yukon Territory might be known for it's blistering cold, during the summer it can actually get quite the opposite! While sitting at around an average of +20 Celsius, it's really the humidity that will get you as you're quite literally surrounded by mountains all around you. So one of the best things to do in this case is to get a lovely case of *insert your favourite beer here* to put into an ice cold cooler, grab yourself a tent and fishing gear, and head to my favourite camping ground at Fox Lake! Just outside of the city center with about a 45 minute to about an hour car drive, if you're staying anywhere near the main city this beautiful lake is super close and if planned properly, you can get there before anyone else early in the morning! There is plenty of camping spots, so you can even meet the locals (would not recommend) while you catch some fresh lake fishies and crack open a cold one!

    Second Activity: Kayaking and Canoeing!

    Rather be on the water rather than just looking at it? Well, another main activity that you can do is grab yourself a kayak or a canoe for either just yourself or with a special someone (please not me)! Nothing is more relaxing and romantic than setting out on the fresh water with the wind blowing against you to keep you cool in the summer heat! You can even take it a step further and bring yourself a fishing pole and fish out on the open water for an even better chance for catching a fish! If you're ever afraid of it being too crowded with people, have no fear as there are plentiful lakes and bodies of water to head out onto so you can have your own solo-adventure!

    Third Activity: Hiking the Chilkoot Trail!

    Want to become apart of history and hike the trail the gold miners took back in the Gold Rush days? Then the famous Chilkoot Trail is without a doubt the one thing you must do! However, be prepared for quite the journey as it can take up to 5 days to make the historic hike that branches roughly 53 kilometres, so please make sure to not take this lightly. It is also a common thing to do among the locals as a right of passage for the ones who like the outdoors, so there is no worries of being stranded alone and having to 127 Hours yourself! Pack yourself a couple Egg McMuffins, a few litres of water, and some hiking gear and enjoy the beautiful journey!

    Final Activity: Get The Hell Out of There!

    No seriously, why would you ever want to go on a Summer vacation to Whitehorse, Yukon you absolute maniac. Go somewhere normal like Mexico or the Bahamas and get some lovely stories of chilling on the beach rather than being assaulted by a grizzly bear up North!

    I hope you enjoyed this guide to both my hometown and the wonderful city of Whitehorse, Yukon (home to the Yukon Rush, #feeltherush), and I would fully recommend to do any of the activities above (preferably the last one) as well as all the other activities (really not much else to do) in the lovely Great White North!

    1. The team is at the bar after a great win, you order a round of drinks for everybody, what do you choose?

    I'm not legally allowed to order drinks so i would choose choky milk or capri sun

    2. How do you relax and get rid of stress after a long day?

    Chess.com and underrated opinion, doing homework

    3. Which team has impressed you the most in the VHLM this season?

    Definitely minnesota.  They didn't look like a top team in the pre season but now they're in 2nd place

    4. You have been approached by a company to do a sponsorship deal. What is the ideal company that you would want to sponsor you?

    Playstation, i think they would hook me up with free playstation to grind hut with the boys

    5. What is the ultimate goal you have as a player?

    Win any kind of silverware or be an important part of a team

    6. Do you prefer chewy or hard chocolate chip cookies

    Chewy, especially if they are straight from the oven.
