  1. Will Clarke, the only player to win three consecutive CC with three different franchises...
  2. Sorry was the first thing I thought of reading these words...
  3. graphic courtesy by Leandrofg (stats for Janser, stats for Kagamine) The regular season is finished and the Americans are still in the game. Thanks to a successfull second half of the season, New York could punch the ticket for the offseason. They will face now another Original Eight franchise in a fight for the playoffs. The Legion had the better overall record, whereas the team from the Big Apple won four of the six games against the 6ix squad. So the stage is set for a hopefully exciting series. For the end of the season we will summarize the two last games for your reading pleasure. 4-5 (OT) In our first featured match, New York collected two points in a nail-biting contest against the Reign. The first period belonged to the Latvian Pride. It is noteworthy that with Justice, McGryer and Anand three former Wranglers netted for Riga. Italian Stallion 'French' Mancini was responsible for the sole New York marker. The second period came and went with no change on the score board. However, in the third frame, Mancini ignited the afterburner and scored a natural hattrick within ten and a half minutes. Kemp for the Reign managed to tie the game again. After less than three minutes into extra time, Swedish veteran Analfist scored the game winner. It should surprise absolutely no-one that Mancini (4g/0a) was declared first star of the game. He was joined by Anand (1g/2a) and Davis (0g/4a). It was not the best night for the netminders but 36xW (.897) kept the upper hand over Panda (.857). New York's powerplay was decent (1/4), their penalty kill adequate (4/5). Rin left the ice with 0g, 0a, +0 and 4sb CGY had a 0g, 0a, +0, 4 PIM (2x Hooking, no goals scored during his time riding the pine), 2 hits, 1sb record 1-3 In the last game of the regular season, the Americans met the Vancouver Wolves in a 1-3 defeat. The pups showed that despite a rebuilding season, their teeth are not pulled yet. Hoover and Sansoe scored in the first period, whereas New York stayed off the score sheet. During the second frame each team scored one goal. Analfist and Walker put the puck in the back of the net for their colours respectively. In the final lap, both teams neutralized the oppositions efforts and no further goals were scored. The three stars were awarded to Vidarsson (34 saves), Westwood (0g/2a) and Sansoe (1g/0a). In net, we witnessed a battle for the ages between the rookie goalkeepers 36xW (.923) and Vidarsson (.971), with the better end for the Greenlander. New York's powerplay was sub-par (1/6) whereas their box play was leaky (2/4). It is save to say that their weak special teams cost them the match. Rin had 0g, 0a, and a -1 to her name CGY ended the game with 0g, 0a, -1, 2 PIM (High Sticking, did not lead to a goal against), 3 hits and 4sb Here are the 'Beauty and the Beast's' final stats of their rookie season: Kagamine: 72gp, 10g, 19a, 29pts, -6, 8 PIM, 12 hits, 115sb Janser: 72gp, 6g, 49a, 55pts, -4, 191 PIM, 284 hits, 143sb, 2 First Star distinctions, 1-1-3 fighting record We will revert with more news on our intrepid hockey export in due course. https://vhlforum.com/topic/143134-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xiii-settling-in-in-new-york/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/143547-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xiv-another-title/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/144188-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xv-first-games-as-a-murican/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/144581-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xvi-one-third-in/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/145143-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xvii-a-seasons-review/
  4. Very touching and sad story and so relatable. Where I live, people tend to over insure themselves. There are also (life) insurances available which will pay out regardless whether one dies or not. The insurance and the client agree to a certain age (mostly it is the legal retirement age) when the insurance will pay out a certain amount anyway. Cherry on top: this kind of insurance premium can be deducted from the taxes. If such products do exist in NA that would be ideal as it would not give the feeling 'to pay for something I will never use' as you described in your article plus it does not give you the feeling to bet on your own demise, if you decide to get that insurance (I know that this is of course not the case, but one could understand why people have this feeling). And I agree that drinking and driving does not mix well and I hope the responsible driver (or should I say irresponsible driver) is held accountable for his actions, both financially and serving time in correctional facility.
  5. no expert on the matter, but they look like electronic gadgets which in Switzerland is a category of its own. I do not really know what happens there, but believe they are disassembled to salvage (rare) metals...
  6. That is first class douchbaggery right there. How did they know that it was a great experience? For all he know you and your co-ed could have pulled your back and cut your hands open smh
  7. It can be a pain in the ass to be 'green' sometimes. In Switzerland you have a communal drop off for all recycling goods (paper, cardboard, PET bottles, plastic, electronics, batteries, cans, tins you name it). Composte and 'regular' garbage is collected by the 'trash men' (I do not know the proper English word and by no means do I mean to say that these people are trash). Once a month, clubs or school classes will collect recyclable paper to earn some additional money for camps etc. as they are paid a certain amount of money per kilo collected. For any electronic gadget (fridges, computer, HiFi, television etc) you pay a disposal fee in advance when you buy the thing and every shop who sells such goods, needs to take them back for proper disposal (even if you did not buy it there). Swiss people are encouraged to recycle as the bags for the 'regular trash' (35l or 9.23 US liq Gal volume) cost around 2.70 Swiss Franks or USD 3.04 (it depends on the canton you live in). So one is keen on recycle as much as possible. We make it a weekly event and bring our stuff to the disposal site on a weekly or bi-weekly basis and combine it with our shopping, when we have to use the car anyway...
  8. It is a sunny February day in New York, and the Americans have a R+R day. French (Francesco Mancini) has promised to take Rin and Cal to one of his favourite authentic Italian ristorante. He arrived with a stereotypical southern European delay of fifteen minutes. Kagamine and Janser were a little upset as in both cultures they grew up in emphasizes punctuality. Alas, one cannot be cross with charming and jovial Mancini and when he apologized for the delay in his flowery and wordy way, all was forgiven. It was interesting to observe that the trio was greeted by everyone in the street, but especially by small businessmen and -women, who often times offered a freebie from their stores. Callum overheard that French was often addressed as 'padrino' with a certain level of devotion. So he asked his team mate: 'Francesco, are these friendly people relatives of yours?' Mancini responded enigmatically: 'In a manner of speaking, yes.' but refused to elaborate further. They finally arrived at their destination 'Da nonno'. The owner was an elderly gentleman, who either never learned English or refused to speak it in his own ristorante. Cal ordered some bruschette for starters and spaghetti vongole as the main dish, followed by a home made tiramisu. Rin went for fritto misto as a the first course, but made the cardinal error to ask for a pizza Hawai'i as a main. The friendly landlord turned a deep purple, assuming the colour of beet root and started to yell obscenities at the Nagasaki native. It took all of Cal's and Francesco's patience and negotiation skills (including offering tickets to the next home ice game) that she was not thrown out of the restaurant. The Japanese defender was clearly embarassed and apologized profoundly to the insulted padrone. 'I did not mean no harm, sir. Of course I will change my order. Can I have the ossobucco con polenta, please?'. Apparently the revised order got the temperamental Sicilian's approval. After the meal was finished and the gang took an espresso, Rin and Cal understood why French recommended this restaurant, as the food was exquisite. They will have a story to tell, though.
  9. Maybe we should relocate London to Québec (since they want to belong to France anyway) and finally @FrostBeard and @Ahma can stop pestering @Frank for a re-relocation of the Wolves (QUOTE: 'C'mon Frank! UNQUOTE:)
  10. I claim that there are a lot of Shadowrun players and the customers in Seattle are only ever referred to as 'Johnson'
  11. Oh, believe me, I am fully aware. The first GTA I really played through
  12. Takes me back to the eighties
  13. When I grew up during the cold war era, I was of the opinion that New York is the capital of the U.S. of A. though... given its prominence in the media and its economical significance...
  14. graphic courtesy by Leandrofg (stats for Janser, stats for Kagamine) The Americans have now played 64 games and show a 29-30-5 record and sit at fifth seed in the NA conference with 63 points. The defence has never been the problem for the whole season, as only Malmo allowed fewer goals than the squad from the Big Apple. And they are one goal better, which is a normal statistical anomaly on the sample size of 64 games. One cannot help but feel that if they had Champagne's help up front already at the start of the season, they would not have to worry about a playoff participation. Our New York correspondent Dick Hammer talked to the Swiss defender talent. DH: 'Good Morning, Callum thanks for taking time to talk to us here in the Madison Square Garden.' CGY: 'Anytime, Dick. We are in the middle of our preparation for the potential play-in series, so I thought it is best to meet here.' DH: 'Absolutely. Since we last spoke, the Americans acquired forwards Lecavalier and Champagne and traded away Roux, Westwood and Steele. What are your thoughts about these moves.' CGY: 'First of all I wanted to stress, that the trades does not mean that we were not happy with the performance of the three parting players. They played the role allocated to them commendably and they will add value to any team. They were the price which had to be paid to shake things up in our forward department. We had not enough secondary scoring and I think Fred and Vinny can provide that. In fact, the small sample size we have so far indicates that they can indeed. Lecavalier is a good depth player and can reliably contribute about .5 points per game, while staying out of the sin bin. Champagne is arguably one of the better two-way player in the league with a mean streak and a scoring touch. In the last two seasons he was above a point per game, and I think he can get there again.' DH: 'In the last two weeks you have picked up your scoring pace and are now on track for a 50+ point season, which would be a new personal record. Does that make you proud?' CGY: 'It does not make me ashamed, that is for sure. But frankly I do not care about my scoring too much. New York clearly drafted me for my defensive play, not because of my limited offensive talent. Of course I try to contribute to the team's production as good as I can, without losing focus on my defensive play.' DH: 'However, your +/- rating looks anything than stellar.' CGY: 'That is indeed the case and no-one is more pissed about this than me, you can believe that. I wish to point out that our defence is still one of the best in the league and has been for the entire season. 36xW does a remarkable job in net and he is still young. I lead the team in assists, hits and shots blocked. At the price of leading the team in penalties as well, I am not going to brush over that. I think that is a decent show up for a rookie, but will strive to do better, of course.' DH: 'Speaking of which: are you flirting with a Stolzschweiger nomination?' CGY: 'No. My money is either on 36xW or Ironhide. I am at best a very dark horse in that race. The jury traditionally tends to nominate high scoring forwards and door-closing netminders. Those defenders who are nominated have in common that they are around a point per game, which I am clearly not.' DH: 'Do you think they are biased towards defensive defenders?' CGY: 'I do not think so. It is just difficult to express the value of defence-first backs in easy understandable stats. I mean what are you looking at? Shots blocked? Did you really do a good job in defending if an opponent gets into a position, where a shot is a viable option? Checks? To me, checks are a last ressort to stop opponents, you want them to not even see the puck, let alone possess it. And with a high check number traditionally comes a high penalty count, which is not seen as a good thing, and I tend to agree. Plus/Minus rating? To me, this is more of a team statistic than an individual one and does not necessarily reflect one's personal performance. I just think the league's brass has not yet figured out how to evaluate a stay at home defender's impact on his team's game and hence the nod goes to players, who have easier comprehensible stats to support their case.' DH: 'Okay, that were all the questions for today. Thanks and good luck.' CGY: 'Thanks for having me.' Here are Kagamine's and Janser's stats so far: Kagamine: 64gp, 10g, 16a, 26pts, -10, 8 PIM, 12 hits, 102sb, 3gwg, 6ppg Janser: 64gp, 5g, 41a, 46pts, -8, 162 PIM, 254 hits, 124sb, 0gwg, 3ppg, 2 First Star nomination, 1-0-3 fighting record https://vhlforum.com/topic/142903-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xii-round-one-accomplished/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/143134-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xiii-settling-in-in-new-york/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/143547-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xiv-another-title/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/144188-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xv-first-games-as-a-murican/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/144581-the-cgy-janser-story-part-xvi-one-third-in/
  15. 1. If we exclude Calgary, which team do you think will win the cup and why? 2. What is your favourite 1st Gen Experience? 3. Who do you think will be rookie of the year? 4. What is your players most obscure pastime and how did they pick it up? 5. Name one celebrity you looked up to as a child and explain why? 6. If a Jinn gave you only one wish, what would it be?
  16. Jonny is the only S87 netminder who made it into the big show...
  17. Related to the Oslo Legend that is Brussels Sprout (Not to be confused with Brussel Sprout, who did not have an illustrous career)?
  18. Lazlo Holmes to WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW: "One of the main guys on the Rangers Americans, I don't know how to say his name because it has 30 36 letters in it and none of them are vowels."
  19. He retired after two seasons in my club due to a series of concussions. He hoped that in Switzerland, the checks were not as frequent/hard as in the nhl. Sadly some clubs targeted him and so he was forced to retire. In his final season he was topscorer of the Swiss league with 67 points in 49 games as well as elected as the best player in the regular season. In 2017 (the 50th anniversary of EV Zug) he was voted as one of 50 best players of the club's history.
