Shindigs got a reaction from Gustav in What Does the Community Think of League Moderation? (ALL of your opinions, NONE of mine)
This response pretty much highlights the biggest issue with the Hogan ban. For 4 months he didn't get the feedback that he couldn't keep doing that. Which leads to the insecurity in other people second guessing if what they have been doing is/isn't fine. The ban itself wasn't the issue, but the 4 month lag was a pretty massive issue. Because it introduces doubt, and when you ask about said doubt you get no answer. Which leads to more insecurity and doubt, and Yoda would probably find some way to conclude that that leads to the dark side.

But yeah this whole thing was a good read. I'm way too new to have any specific views on anything aside from the quote above. But overall this has felt like one of the most open and welcoming communities I've joined. Though I only really keep to the forum and team discord, not the league discord. So no idea what's going on there. Though based on this survey it seems quite a lot of the questionable stuff happens in there.

From a sociology standpoint I really like that you used a grading scale where the average is 5.5. A number that you literally cannot pick. Because as it turns out, if you are given a 1-5 scale. Everyone and their mom picks 3, because it's the middle choice*. That being said I think the clarification on the 1-9 with 5 being average for moderation volume was needlessly unclear on if 1 was too harsh or too lenient. Which is probably the cause of that 1, that was supposed to be a 9. You really could have interpreted it either way, based on the given information.

*Note that on the Volume question you (somewhat arbitrarily) picked 1-9 as the scale, instead of 1-10. Compare your results on that graph with the others and you will see this in effect. 5 is the middle number there, and 5 is over-represented. Human beings are so predictable...

Hello everyone! It's sure been awhile since @Berocka and myself have been able to podcast, but we were able to get together and record one and I couldn't be happier. In this episode we catch up, look at the start of the season and call out a GM. Then we have a bit of mod talk, explore a new VHL conspiracy theory and finally steal one of my personal topics and look at some VHL power moves.

Thanks for listening and let us know what you think! We're hoping to continue podcasting going forward.

Anything is possible once you apply Clue Glue™ to your stick! As usual, thanks for the kind words. Last sim was brutal for poor Bo though, I think the Clue Glue™ might have worn off. So he might need to reach into his Clue bag of tricks again come Monday.

For clarity. Since hyphenated names are considered black magic in the VHL. "Bo" had to drop almost his entire first name to not be in violation of the CBA.

PRESIDENTS CHOICE CANDY CANE ICE CREAM. It’s a delicious vanilla with candy canes in it, only available in the winter, and so damn good. I’ll stock up in December and get through to Feb.

There is no bad time of the day or year for ice cream.

Potentially unpopular opinion: ice cream cones are absolutely terrible and you should always order from a bowl. Cones taste like cardboard and that is not the lasting taste I want in my mouth after eating some delicious dairy dessert.

When the Wild win, everybody wins in the city of Saskatoon!

The Wild are proud to announce a new sponsorship with Tim Hortons, on the corner of Igloo Avenue & Wheat Crescent. All 273,000 residence of the Saskatoon Metro area will receive the luxuries of a free medium double double coffee when the Wild win! Bring in a cigarette for a free upgrade to large, and enjoy a "Canadian breakfast" while watching your favourite teams victory highlights from the previous night.

    Igloo/Wheat Tim Hortons has opened a secondary drive-thru to accommodate the influx of lifted pick-up trucks and tractors after the wins. Although there hasn't been many yet this season, one player has his sights on changing that. Jay Sauce, back-up goalie of the Wild, said the following when asked about the sponsorship;

The Wild are 3-6-1 to start the season, but have there eyes set on making a playoff push as the season progresses.

What is on Ariane Leblancs spotify a mere hours before she takes the ice? Well that is the interesting thing about her. She is often seen tapping her foot and singing in french while in the locker room. Most people assume it's Metal, Hard Rock, Punk, maybe even some techno. No, instead the left wing from Metz has been listening to Broadway musicals while she sits in her corner. Her eyes closed playing the same 3 songs. This is her routine, and has been since high school.

The first song on her playlist is “Waving Through a Window” from Dear Evan Hansen. The song holds weight for the woman as she often struggles with mental illness, fitting in. This helps her with her Anxiety before she enters a sold out arena.

Next is “The Other Side '' helps her with her struggle of being an Assistant General Manager and a player. Showing the Duality of two things she loves as she slowly submits to one or the other following her true love and not loving comfort.

Finally she throws on “My Shot” from Hamilton. This is her song, the one that defines her. She is on a team that is not the best but all the faith is being put into her. The responsibilities she is being given in the league. The status she is rising too is making her weaver but she is driven and wont throw away her shot. This keeps her focused on her goals and what she has planned

Shindigs reacted to pugsood in Mack Attack December
The Sun Gazzette continues its monthly coverage and update of Northern Virginia native and now former SBA basketball player Alvin Mack, as he continues to be eligible in the VHL, despite not having entertained any overtures by the league and its general managers to date. Our beat reporter Jordan Smith caught up with Mack on December 1st at the Capital One Arena in Washington DC as Mack was attending the Capitals - Penguins game.

Smith: Same question, different month - any plans on pursuing hockey?
Mack: Never say never. I was considering giving this up for good but then some new rules, some new possibilities have come into place...I really just think if there's an easy way for me to develop at the same time in my skillset in hockey and basketball, I'd really consider it. But right now it's not easy enough and I don't have that kind of time.

Smith: You lost in the 2nd round of the playoffs in the SBA to the Miami Vice. You finish your career with some great personal accolades including Power Forward of the Year, but never advanced to an SBA Finals. What do you think your legacy will be?
Mack: The thought that still keeps me up at night is that I left something on the table in my career. Whether it was spending my prime year on a team that wasn't going to make the playoffs most likely and being the casualty of the salary cap, to not advancing to the finals with the Ravens and then having to watch them win the title just a couple of seasons later...honestly it all really, really stings. And I'm trying to instill in my boy Steve Lattimer that he needs to be better than me, do better than me, accomplish more than me. And I think he will. But in terms of my legacy, I don't know man. I'd love to say I'm up for the Hall, but I don't think it'll happen and I'll have to live with that.

Smith: Speaking of Lattimer, many GMs have reached out to gauge his interest in hockey. Do you have any idea his latest thinking?
Mack: Steve's basically waiting for one of you all to offer me a million bucks on top of what you'll pay him for him to come over. But no seriously, coming off an incredible SBDL season, I think he's really focused on his basketball craft. Guy was the 3rd overall pick in the draft. Some thought he was the best player overall. Knowing Steve's mind, his heart, I think he is so motivated to prove his new franchise right, prove other naysayers wrong, and build the kind of career that even guys like myself couldn't achieve. I don't think hockey fits into that but that's just my gut reaction.

Smith: We're faced with another controversy, this time comedian Dave Chappelle being paid $24M for his comedy special which included commentary that many felt was inappropriate or insensitive to marginalized communities. Thoughts?
Mack: Comedians have a a task, a responsibility even, to find lines in society and maybe even go so far as to push those lines or cross them. What you think is funny may not be what I think is funny. I don't know why we think we can objectify humor. I really struggle with this topic because seemingly you can find fault with the most innocent remarks. I got called 'big' a lot growing up. I HATED it. Why is it okay for someone to remark on people's body size? That'd be like me saying 'oh hey buddy, you're short, tell me about your experience.' That stuff doesn't fly. But we don't have set rules and maybe we shouldn't.

Shindigs reacted to Peace in A GM's perspective: S81 VHL Entry Draft
One of my favorite articles to write has always been 'GM Perspective' media spots, I feel like they're a great way to engage with some community members and grants me a creative outlet to discuss... well pretty much anything related to Toronto and my time as the Legions' general manager. I've written articles that have expressed my emotions on various levels; frustration with certain situations, situations where I could have been more tactful as I dealt with the cards that were given; anger at some of the users, whom helped or created conflict and drama both here [on the forum] and within the locker room itself; and not to mention my thoughts on trades, the players I've drafted and ranting about the sim engine robbing Toronto's previous core.

Yeah, yeah, you've heard it before... I still strongly feel like Toronto's S77, S78 and S79 (at the beginning, anyway...) rosters underperformed considering the team we had. Some say we were too bulky on the back end, lacked the offensive firepower compared to other VHL teams as a result, while others suggested that the builds we accumulated simply weren't performing well together inside STHS' whacky decision making formula. Those are essentially ancient history now, but something big for Toronto recently happened.

The S81 VHL Entry Draft is important, yes, I'll be discussing that for another 2,000 words [I hope] down below. No, no, the big thing for Toronto was MattyIce deciding to stay during his punishment and Doomsday returning to our shared game near the end of S80. Matty's current player was drafted second overall by the Toronto Legion, he had earned an inane amount of TPE prior to his suspension, and since he made the decision to stick around -- quite early in the punishment I will say -- Toronto suddenly has another top earning forward once again. Oh, and of course we've got Lindbergh manning the pipes for us for the foreseeable future, we spent the fourth overall pick on him so I'm elated he returned.

    Those are big.

Loosing Fire and Lindbergh would have been catastrophic, but like a stalling plane nose diving to gain airspeed, we've recovered and are trending in the right direction.

Now let's talk about that draft, eh? What a quality draft it was!

    Cadmael Ixazaluoh - @Vice
VHL: Drafted 5th overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafting 6th overall by the Bratislava Watchmen
VHLM: Undrafted; too powerful for the VHLM!

Selecting Vice was perhaps the easiest decision I've made in the last five seasons [at least regarding entry draft selections]; he conducted himself with respect, remained professional and expressed his thoughts in a matter-of-factly way I appreciate. Honestly his draft interview reminded me a lot of another user from a fleeting past, but this article isn't about that person, it's about Vice's Cadmael Ixazaluoh joining the Toronto Legion. You can forget about positional needs, if Cadmael was a forward he'd still be on Toronto.

I wanted Vice on my team; I shuffled my draft board so many times that Vice bounced between the top spot and I'd say maybe no lower than third before settling atop my chart just before the draft began, and I'm sure there's a bunch of quotes saying he was there or here, that I had him at some specific place... well I'm going on record now, even if I had first overall -- especially considering the crap that happened during the entry draft -- Ixaxaluoh would have been joining the Legion regardless.

I'm very excited about the future with Vice and where we can take the Toronto Legion.

    Harkat Mulds - @hylands
VHL: Drafted 9th overall by the Toronto Legion
    VHLE: Undrafted; declared for VHL
VHLM: Drafted 4th overall by the Yukon Rush

When I drafted Hylands to the Legion I had no idea why he was sliding so far, I guess in a way I still don't fully comprehend how he landed at my feet with the ninth overall pick. Here we are though, Hylands and I have talked and I'd like to say we're both looking forward to seeing how both he and Toronto will perform the next few seasons. Toronto was never a destination I thought Mulds would land -- from what I gather neither did Hylands -- so I never took the opportunity to scout my former colleague, perhaps something I should have done.

Toronto and Mulds might not have a long future together, or things might develop into a nine season friendship. Regardless of where the future lies between the player and club, there's an absolute fact that lies smack in the middle of every conversation you could have between myself and Hylands: Mulds is a core piece of Toronto now, he'll be joining Fire and Peace as top earners and is complimented by the developing forward core the team already had through previous trades and drafts.

The future is indeed bright, even if it's just for a while.

    George Sanderson - @SpicyGecko
VHL: Drafted 17th overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 13th overall by the Geneva Rush

Here's another user I was unable to scout, well actually... for the record Vice was the only player drafted to Toronto that received a pre-draft interview, the rest of these selections were based on hunches by whatever means I developed them. In this particular case, Sanderson was Vice's teammate with the Reapers. Two objectives came together when he dipped out of the first round, I knew that it would be risky selecting someone I never scouted but truthfully it was worth it; firstly he was a teammate of a user I had just drafted, they're familiar with one another and that's important; and secondly he was a positional need, as George Sanderson is a defender Toronto desperately needed at the time.

I can't say too much about the discussions we've had, some DMs back and forth so I'm excited the avenue to communicate is officially open. Of course Sanderson instantly became one of our top prospects, I anticipate him joining the Legion within the next few seasons in order to join his teammate Ixazaluoh on the blue line. Build wise I've noticed that Gecko is building what appears to be a physical, disciplined defensive specialist and they generally work pretty well at the VHL level. It's not glamorous, you don't generate a whole lot of points, but turnovers do occur in the sim and those lead to offensive opportunities.

Ixazaluoh - Sanderson pairing in 83, maybe?

    Weenuk Warrior - @KnightRiley
VHL: Drafted 24th overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 24th overall by the Oslo Storm
VHLM: Drafted 12th overall by the Halifax 21sts

Here's a user I know very little about! This was absolutely a pick I made based on an article I read -- which stated an interest to play for Toronto -- so when Toronto was on the clock for the twenty fourth overall pick in the VHL Entry Draft I chose to make this selection over drafting scouted users, which weren't many to begin with. While I don't know much about KnightRiley, I'd love to learn more about this user and their interests moving forward together as members of the Toronto Legion.

As for Weenuk Warrior's arrival in Toronto, I don't expect WW joining the Legion anytime soon. With a season of VHLM play, following a season of VHLE play, we're likely to see Warrior join Toronto in S83 or S84. The great thing about this new system [in my opinion] is how it pushes regression back the longer you're away from the VHL. The downside is you don't get a full VHL career, but the positives of not worrying too much about daunting regression means you can make the most out of every point you earn.

Of course I give my players the option to join the team when they're eligible, so perhaps we see Warrior on the Legion sooner than I think!

    Ashton Komaryk - @Komaryk
VHL: Drafted 29th overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 32nd overall by the Cologne Express
VHLM: Drafted 62nd overall by the Houston Bulls

At 29th overall I was torn with who to select, I could have gone with Salo here but ultimately I decided to go with Komaryk for two reasons; he was a Houston Bulls prospect, a team I played for with Killinger; and they're earning a steady six capped TPE every week. Not to say Salo isn't earning steadily, the deciding factor was mostly the Houston Bulls connection, but I noticed Salo dipped to just four capped TPE a week [meanwhile earned up to ten on other weeks]. I'm not sure what the safer pick will end up being, I'm not really here to dwell in hindsight, I'll do everything in my power to help Komaryk develop Ashton the way Komaryk wants Ashton to develop.

If Komaryk can make the VHL roster sooner-than-later, assuming no additional right wingers are acquired through a trade or the entry draft, there is a natural RW availability between the deep stack of centers and strong left wingers Toronto already has on the roster. With some elevated work ethic Komaryk could dominate the depth chart along the right side of the ice, perhaps even overtake some of the overfill we currently have. Toronto will be operating with numerous centers on a line, particularly the first line where Fire and Numminen/Calamari will be skating together, so there's a lot of room to grow for Ashton.

    Future top six winger?

    Harry Hagel - @jasplunds
VHL: Drafted 31st overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 26th overall by the Bratislava Watchmen
VHLM: Drafted 32nd overall by the Halifax 21sts

Drafting Harry Hagel was a positional selection for the Toronto Legion, truthfully I was leaning towards another user that was earning more but decided to trust my gut. There's room for Hagel to develop with Toronto, while drafting a forward to an already cluttered forward group just meant less opportunity for growth. With Hagel being a defender, there's plenty of room to replace inactive D on the Legions' roster without having to worry about someone taking your job.

Hagel won't join the Legion for quite some time, Jasplunds is slowly developing his player and we'll likely see a competitive defender for the minority of his career. Hagel will join Toronto somewhere around S84/S85, but as I covered above that means he won't have to worry about regression. Unfortunately the career clock exists, Hagel won't see much VHL ice but his potential successes at the VHLM, VHLE  and VHL levels of competition are pretty much endless. When he does join the Legion, I expect Hagel to slot into the top four and help Toronto chase some championships.

    Nothing wrong with gut instinct!

    Boris Tsezar - @comrade cat
VHL: Drafted 41st overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 27th overall by the Rome Gladiators
VHLM: Drafted 28th overall by the Mexico City Kings

I've been honest to a fault up to this point, so I don't see why I should break that streak. Sadly this pick was a BPA made by the staff team during the VHL Entry Draft, I had a family dinner I kept excusing myself from and by this point in the draft I was getting the wondering judging eyes from family as I floated away back to my computer in between two bites of chili. I asked the team ensuring an orderly draft to BPA my picks with anyone active from this point further, which means Simeoni below was also a BPA.

That being said I'm excited there were active players in the third and fourth rounds, normally there's usually a few but the majority -- if memory serves me correctly -- have fallen into inactivity after leaving the sim league entirely or sometimes temporarily. I've reached out to Comrade Cat and they've accepted a Discord invite, so communications are now open and I'm eager to learn more about the user behind the player as time goes on. Sim wise though it's unlikely we see Tsezar in Legion blue for a while, but I'll be following the 'tenders career in the VHLM and VHLE until they're ready for the big leagues.

Backup roles aren't immediately interesting, but hopefully Toronto is a championship team at that point and the experience is enough to have some fun.

    Alessio Simeoni - @Alesime
VHL: Drafted 60th overall by the Toronto Legion
VHLE: Drafted 44th overall by the Oslo Storm
VHLM: Drafted 26th overall by the Saskatoon Wild

Seemingly struck gold three times with this selection, er, you know... despite not actually making the selection. Sadly I was committed to my family dinner when the staff BPA'd Toronto's sixtieth overall pick, but holy crud was it a good one [I might be biased] for a few reasons; one: they'll be playing for the Saskatoon Wild, and god damn it I love that franchise; two: Vice, Gecko and Alesime were all teammates with one another during their time with the Reapers; and three: I believe Simeoni could be the steal of the S81 draft, I really really believe that's a possibility.

At current pace Toronto won't see Simeoni until S84/S85 most likely, but again that conflict has both a positive and negative charge; on one hand you've got little to no depreciation, on the other you've only got four-five seasons with a VHL team. With a little more effort -- say perhaps a VHL.com article and press conference questions -- there is little doubt in my mind Simeoni would be the steal of the draft, I can't express that enough! I'm excited for that potential, okay, there's nothing wrong with that considering this was ultimately a best-player-available pick.

    Simeoni!

    That about wraps it up!

a lot of plans put into place some may be cancelled or pushed back (the * means no promises), now lets get back to your normal Minion presents!

Who is the teen we are talking about is a fair question to be asking right now, Of course its one of the newest GM in the VHLM being none other then Mr.Minion. for all of you that don't know who Mr.minion is well let me give you some hints, He is still playing in the VHL right now, he is the hounds all time point scorer, and was also part of both romes and The express first ever teams. do you know yet? Thats right its malmo's rookie Nathaniel Minion. Nathaniel's isn't in halifax alot as he spend most of his time in malmo, where the newest 21st Office building has been built just for away use. He has an office in Halifax but doesn't use it much unless he is visiting the team. Nathaniel has always wanted to be a GM in the VHL and still does so lets take a trip though time and see where he started!

its season 77 and Minion just signed his first contact with at the time 21st gm @rory(who now gms LA). he would be in the draft that off season and go to the hounds but this is where his love for the League started. Rory needed a new agm after growy stepped down and Minion choice to apply and was interveiwed of course he didn't get the job Jakky did which. it wasn't till season 79 when he would truly started to apply to all the opening, he wouldn't get a job that yet not even a WJC gm job. so he waited again then it happened S80 a new league formed with the VHLE adding a lot of opening and he didn't get a gm job their! of course not no experience tends to do that. He didn't let that stop him that offseason we had something called the Jr showcase and @Alex_J32became the first to give minion a true chance and let him agm under him that offseason.

Things were looking up for Minion that off season as after joining Alex and the steel, he would become Team worlds GM in the season 80 WJC. he would lead world to a gold medal in an epic showdown against Europe. Minion went from a nobody trying to become gm two seasons ago to a top member for an GM job. just one thing holding him back he hasn't been an agm yet. that same offseason Alex became the reapers GM and needed an AGM Minion of cursed applied and to his sadness failed, he was rejected. when we ask minion how that felt after working closely with alex that offseason how it felt he said "rejects are apart of job hunting if I let ever no get to me I would have quit on day one, this one may have been one of the most painful but I trust alex know what he was doing." about two hours after that no @InstantRockstarmade a post looking for Rome's first ever Agm and minion stepped foward expecting another no. How ever after a great interview, rockstar took a chance. That season Minion spent all his free time helping rome to the finals before being crushed by the Iron eagles.

Minion started getting ready for S81 with rome but then it happened, Sam was taking over the rush leaving 21st open. Minion jumped on the chance to Gm the team that he felt the most at home with in the VHL, where he started as a player, was perfect for him to start as gm with. @McWolf  and @diamond_ace  would later give Minion the Gm spot of halifax. and this completing his goal of becoming gm! When we asked him what he thought of becoming GM this is what he said "Honestly I want to thank the people who made this thing happen Alex believed in me and would later give me my first shot at management, @rjfryman With giving me a chance with team world. rockstar Making me his first agm and teaching me the ropes. He is most likely the only reason I'm gm now as if he choice somebody else I wouldn't of been an agm. and Mcwolf and D_A for trusting me with halifax. The VHL is a great place where everyone help everyone. Nobody is left out and everybody is treated the same! to all those user who are reading this thinking that they could never be GM. Yes you can it just takes time trust me this has been a long time in the making for me"! and that is It for this artical.
See you around game 36 for the next article!

Every hockey player spend their off-season different though weather it’s skiing in the mountains  or going deep sea diving or just practicing on their game everyone one is unique. We are thankful that we were able to get to talk VHLM goalie Ben Dahl.
“You know I do pretty normal Normal things that I think any other regular person do, I watch Netflix stay up way too late and just overall try to have a good time in the off-season. Off course I practice on my game I’m paid to do this I have to put effort year around in order to be successful I mean it’s my job I’m good at it so I’m paid to do it. Which means I have to work even harder to get better and better everyday. If you don’t try hard if you just let yourself go it may feel good I’m the beginning that you have no responsibility’s. Then when you come back and you’re so far behind it’s frustrating and depressing and you end up back where you started just trying to take your mind off things all you want to feel is success. I mean also love hitting the club and getting with some hot girls there is nothing like getting some Instagram models number. Then going and bragging your friends about how you meet this ten out of ten and you got here number and she’s coming over to your place later. I don’t think theirs a better feeling in the world just partying having a fun time with some hot girls, yeah that’s my type of might for sure sad thing is I can really only do it in the off-season. I also loving trying new food while I can somewhat do this while we are Traveling to different city’s it always has to be something healthy I can never be normal and eat a ton of food I mean a ton of food. One time I want to a all you can eat buffet and I got kicked out after almost eating all of the food they had. Man I love crab legs they are for sure the best food you can get at a buffet it’s just so good and cheap I just can’t get enough I’m willing to shove people out of the way for crab legs. I mean I’m not the crazy though wel I guess I am. At the end of the day though if you put in the work and make sure you try hard when you practice you are gonna find a lot of success at whatever you do especially working during the off season is a huge thing. You can come back as a totally different player and feel a new way when you step on the rink it’s a good feeling. Putting the work in during the off season is a great feeling.”

So what you are saying is that it's defensive instincts are so well honed. It even manages to accidentally block shots? Sounds like an Elite 200 foot player to me. Let's compare it to Bergeron in the draft show and pick it 1st overall! #TankforClue

Would you be inclined to change your opinion if I let you know that I purposefully set the opacity to the white highlight to 69%?😅

Literally haven't made anything this "flashy" since I was about 14. Almost feeling a bit nostalgic.

Not bad, this has a great look to it, nice sideways logoswap pretty hard to do, the background is nice and vibrant but it just goes to black so fast a darkerish gradient there would be a bit better. The text is nice, mabye on the red text you could add a black or white glow, but overall good work. 7.5/10

I guess it’s my turn to give you a review. I like the graphic, I can see it fitting really well as your forum sig, it’s not outrageously huge and isn’t very obnoxious when looking at it. The colors of the jersey and background all look really good together. The logo on the player also matches super well and looks good how it is. The font for the text fits really well. Only thing I don’t like is the white outline part, just seems too bright for such a dark colored graphic. Overall 8.5/10
