Swiss Central Gazzette (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats)

While we did our best to entertain our readers with reports from the WJC where Daniel was able to repeat his silver medal and anecdotes around offseason events, nothing beats the thrill of VHL/E icehockey. So it is convenient that said leagues have now resumed their operations.

Marcel played with his new team, the Vasteras Iron Eagles twice against Cologne, while his elder brother faced the LA Stars in the single match scheduled for the Wranglers.

The younger Janser was reunited with Bushtit with whom he played for the Hounds in season S81 and with Bernier, who is a former Reaper from S80 (though we were told there is no such thing as a 'former Reaper'). He was trusted with the second and fourth D-formation as well as PK and PP time. The first match did not go that well and the Eagles lost 4-2. The decision fell already in the first period, when Cologne scored three unanswered goals. The first scorer for Cologne was Simeoni, also a former team mate of Marcel's from the S80 Philly season. The second period came and went without a goal being scored by either team. In the third, the Express was on the scoreboard again, however Vasteras came back with two goals of their own, scored by Bushtit and Bernier. Alas, this was not enough for a tying rally and the Swedes had to yield the points to Cologne. The three stars of the match were awarded to Kovalchuk (1g/1a), Adesanya (1g/0a) and Komaryk (1g/1a). Protagonist (.923) beat Utonium (.907) in a high class duell to establish dominance in the net. Vasteras powerplay was a bit rusty (0/2) but the penalty killing was up for the task put in front of them (3/3).

Marcel was noted with 0g, 0a, -2 and 4 hits.

For the second match, Vasteras had sworn revenge, but at the end they had to concede the game 6-4. History repeated itself, when ze German team took a 3-0 lead after the first period. However, this time the Eagles did not wait with their reply to the third period, but instead claimed the second period with a 2-1 for their colours. Swiss player Snakehole in power play and Martin found the back of the net for the Scandinavians. The final period ended with a brace a piece. Martin scored both markers for Vasteras. The last one was a good example for a swift counterattack: Pete missed the Eagles' goal and Marcel picked up the lose puck and saw Jockesson starting for the blue line. With a swift wristpass the Rotkreuz native sent his fellow defender on the journey. Jockesson drew the defenders on him, which left Martin unmarked next to the face off circle. Unfortunately for the Cologne back line, they did not have the man nor the puck, so Jockesson was able to dish to Martin, who had already wound up for a one timer, which found his target over Protagonist's shoulder. Hattrick for Martin! Xavier (1g/3a), Martin (3g/0a) and Kovalchuk (2g/1a) were named the three stars in that match. The goalies Utonium (.867) and Protagonist (.879) were not at the same level as in the previous match, but ended up with the same result as last time. Vasteras' power play showed improved (1/5) alas at the expense of the penalty kill (3/4).

Marcel had 0g, 1a, +0, 2 PIM (Tripping, no effect on the score), 1 hit and 1sb to his name.

Daniel's Wranglers had a better start when they defeated the Stars in a 5-3 match. Daniel was tasked to lead the second line, flanked by the Dynamic Duo Nasherov/Reinhart. He was also given PP and PK time in the second special units. The first line was led by Kotkakoivu, who shares a S80 WJC silver medal win with the Swiss native.

The Stars were on the scoreboard first, but veteran defenceman Eagles broke the ice for the Wranglers this season and the period ended in a 1-1 draw. In the second period, Reinhart was the sole goal scorer. In the third period, the Wranglers rode themselves into trouble by taking too many penalties, two of which the Stars converted and thereby created unnecessary heartattack moments for GM Ricer. Alas, Nasherov, Reinhart and again Nasherov took care to curb the bucking Stars with their own even strength goals. Daniel appeared on the score sheet as well. First, he wins the draw against Stamen, directly after LA scored. However, Nasherov for once cannot control the puck and it ends up with Williams. Janser, determined to get the disc back, hammers the unfortunate Canadian into the boards (Williams is taller, heavier and more experience than the Swiss rookie). The newly orphaned puck ends up with le Massif, who attempts to pass to Stamen, but Daniel intercepts the pass and sends the disc to Reinhart, who has no trouble at all to bury it topshelf. in the 18th minute of the last period, Daniel rushes the puck into LA's zone, passes to Reinhart, whose first attempt is denied by Rasputin with a rebound, Reinhart let lose again, but this time is thwarted by Hlozek who puts their body in the way, Nasherov picks up the disc, releases only to miss the net, however the biscuit comes off the boards on Nasherov's blade again and this time there is no fail save for the Stars anymore. Rasputin is rightfully unhappy with his team mates' inability to clear the puck and transforms his paddle into so much kindling. The three stars of the match were Reinhart (2g/3a), Nasherov (2g/2a) and Eagles (1g/2a). Klamasteris was the usual backbone of his team and had a whopping .932 saving rate, which clearly outshines Rasputin's still respectable .896. Calgary's power play was ineffective (0/4) and their penalty killing could do with some fine tuning (5/7).

Daniel was reported with 0g, 2a, +5, 2 PIM (High Sticking, did not result in a power play as Dan provoked Le Massif to a Slashing penalty), 3 hits, 1sb and 47.96% success rate at the draw.

Here the brothers' statistics in the aggregate:

Marcel: 2gp, 0g, 1a, 1pt, -2, 2 PIM, 5 hits, 1sb

Daniel: 1gp, 0g, 2a, 2pts, +5, 2 PIM, 3 hits, 1sb, 47.96% FO
