Hello one and all, and welcome to the Season 82 VHLE Awards! This postseason failed to disappoint, despite a relatively tame semifinals, culminating with an all-time classic series between Rome and Cologne in the finals that stretched to its full seven game potential, complete with a reverse-sweep for the victorious Rome Gladiators in thrilling fashion. Let’s dive into the awards, some statistical, some being voted upon by the VHLE GMs. First up, the statistical awards.

Making their way to the cup finals for the third time in a row after first dispatching Bratislava in five games, the Rome Gladiators have been ever present since the VHLE’s inaugural season. Congratulations to the team as well as GM @InstantRockstar on winning the franchise’s first cup! We are looking forward to seeing if @Baby Boomer can continue your tradition of making the finals next season.

Unfortunately falling short in the finals, the Express put together a fantastic squad, earning the best regular season record in the VHLE with a 48-17-7 record, good for 103 points. Congratulations to GM @BarzalGoat for building such a competitive roster, and to the players for their performances.

Top Defenseman

Our first voted award of the night is for best defenseman during the regular season. This season we had a clear winner. Scoring 91 points, 5 more than the next closest defenseman, this player was a blue-line beast. With not only fantastic playmaking ability but a nice eye for goal, they did it all on the offensive end.

Rome-Gladiators.png.6fd27a425936bef32f6813ece8d6c719.png Congratulations, with 6 votes to Artair McCloud, your Top Defenseman of Season 82! Rome-Gladiators.png.6fd27a425936bef32f6813ece8d6c719.png
@Hoopydog

Runners Up: Bo Johansson (1), Zeljko Ranogajec (1)

Top Two-Way Forward

A bruiser, a grinder, a player who packs a punch on both ends of the ice, the top two-way forward is always an intimidating presence. This season was no exception, as I’m pretty sure they picked up a couple of assault charges over the course of their record-setting 450 hits. As an offensive presence they were no slouch, scoring 70 points, as they maintained a respectable +14 on the season showcasing their talent.

Runner Up: Mason Jones (2)

Top Goaltender

The title of best goaltender is always difficult to award, as a goaltender’s performance is so dependent on their team functioning together as a defensive unit. That’s what makes it so much more impressive when a goalie can elevate their performance above, and keep a team’s record respectable despite other troubles. That’s just what our winner did by the barest of margins, helping keep their team’s goals allowed to just 243; effectively equal to 2 of the top 4 teams, and lower than both the teams immediately above them in the standings. They did this all while managing a league leading .922 save percentage.

:vas:Congratulations, with 4 votes, to Bubbles Utonium, your Top Goaltender of Season 82! :vas:

Runners Up: Anime Protagonist (3), Orion D H Chiester IX (1)

Playoff MVP

The playoff MVP this season was almost unanimous, and for good reason. Although our runner up had a slightly better save percentage over the course of the playoffs, when two goalies go head to head in a seven game series and one comes out on top, you know that they are going to be favorites for MVP. Saving an incredible 93.4% of the 442 shots they faced, this goaltender most importantly endured going 3 games down in the series, before rallying their team to a 4 game streak to come out victorious. The mental fortitude to keep calm in the tight moments of games cannot be understated.

Regular Season MVP

Always a contentious award, this goes to the most valuable player of the regular season. This season was no different, as many players laid claim to the crown, but only one will be rewarded. They’ve been mentioned before in this award show for their fantastic 49 goals and 101 points, both league leading, but are truly well rounded as they maintained a +23 on the season, complete with 72 hits and 21 shots blocked.

Top Executive

Building a team to compete in this league is a chess match between TPE considerations, VHL GMs hungry for prospects, and the competitive windows of your fellow franchises. Learning the skills to build a competitive roster is a difficult process, and one which takes decades of experience to truly master. Our winner of this award built their team to compete, and compete again, and again. Reaching the finals for the third time in as many seasons, the Rome Gladiators were headed by a pro.

Well that just about wraps up this awards show. A big thank you to our VHLE commissioners, @rjfryman and @Acydburn for their continued work and dedication in building this league from the ground up. Finally, thank you to everyone who stayed with us this long. I have been Mr_Hatter, your host for the evening. On behalf of all of VSN, thank you, and good night!
