Malmo and Toronto should've blown it up instead of competing for a first round exit imo 🥸

So unimaginative and uninspiring smh

Imagination is building a team from the ground up in your own image, to engage in true craftmanship, collecting draft pick after draft pick and masterfully selecting and grooming each player, building up a true competitor, moving pieces every offseason to continuously extend your window into the golden seasons of your first true selections.

Wonderful dream.  Reality is inheriting a team with franchise legends who are a season out from retirement and have hopes of finishing their career with the team that drafted them.  I will never regret seeing them through this season and enjoying the best regular season in Malmo history.  Imagination is figuring out how to do that while working toward the dream you describe.

Some absolute shocker games today.

Bears to the next round, and if we can take down Vancouver we can take down anyone. One round at a time and maybe I get that first championship I've been chasing.

Honestly this.  Those who had been there for a while wanted one last chance (and heck best record in the league proved it was a good team..but once again a playoff choke).

There's a difference between keeping the team together for one final run (like Toronto) and actively sabotaging your future by selling off your assets to buy into one final push. Sometimes you gotta make the hard decisions. Hell, I know my ass is getting traded in the offseason. I wish I could finish out my career with Moscow, with the team that fully believed I could be a franchise defenseman, but I know it's likely not going to happen, and I'm not gonna hold it against Spartan for making that decision. Yea, it's gonna be bittersweet after being there for literally over a year, but sometimes the right choice is the right choice.

I've been very open about my thoughts with Malmo and the direction that I would have gone, and you chose a different one, and found at least some success. I'm not against the idea of competing, but I'm against putting the team in a bad spot in the very near future and digging out of the hole that's been made with the all-in push.

lol tell me how you really feel 😆

I was always well aware that the "hard decisions" might expedite a rebuild, but there's always a trade-off, and an expedited rebuild is not always the "right choice".  Those "hard decisions" impact individual players who have put nearly two real years into their players on this team.  In a league that ought to be more about player experience than GM success, I'd rather take the chance of a small hit in a future season while players are still new to the team and  developing than ship out players who want to be here now and have given their entire career to the franchise with no playoff success to show for it.  To be able to give them a real chance as the league's top team this season will always be worth it.   Flaming out in the first round was never a foregone conclusion and aiming for anything less than a Victory Cup as a contending team is ridiculous.  If you're personally okay with being traded a season away from retirement, then good for you, and I won't say a bad thing about Spartan for building his team the way he wants.  It was a priority for me to give our veteran team the best chance at success as long as we were keeping it together.  What's the point in keeping those players if we weren't actually serious about competing?

That said, I'm perfectly happy with what we got back in our trades and we've seen great progress from those players since they've been on Malmo.  They're basically all players I have some familiarity with, to say nothing of the fact that all five players will be on our active VHL roster until at least S102, and trade potential is certainly still there to recoup assets spent if we decide to go that route.  So no, the future has not been "sabotaged", I think you just lack the imagination to see how it might still work.

And while you're totally entitled to your opinion, where's this critical energy coming from?  It sucks enough losing in the first round after the season we had.  Just let me grieve in peace, thanks! 🙏

Not to add on but @Grape Lucy quite literally asked us what we wanted as a team, and collectively we decided as a group to go this direction, most importantly I chose this direction as one of the only players on the team that will have to suffer these consequences long term (as I do plan to remain in Malmo as long as I'm wanted there). I appreciate the whole squad for showing up this season, earning like crazy, committing to this run as a unit, and overall giving it our best. Of course in the end my player sold us but wtf else can I do, it's in Simon's hands now.
