LucyXpher 1,937 Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:34 AM Greg Clegane Trophy This trophy is awarded to the VHL goaltender with the lowest Goals Against Average. “Created in Season 59, the award is named after Greg Clegane, a Hall of Fame goaltender whose eight-season career from S45 to S52 set league records in career GAA (1.80), wins (364), and shutouts (93).” (VHL Awards Portal) Spoiler No shocker with the winner of this award, Lovstrom’s 1.99 is crazy work, and .25 lower than the next closest starting goalie. Lovstrom backstopped the Victory Cup winning Nighthawks to a league-leading goal differential of +119 with the fewest goals against of all teams with only 146 allowed (28 lower than the next best defensive team). Congrats to Jorgen Lovstrom @Pifferfish for claiming another piece of hardware and winning the Greg Clegane Trophy! Stolzschweiger had the greatest rookie season ever with 72 goals and 140 points and was named league MVP, while totaling 449 goals and 912 points in his illustrious 574 game Victory Hockey League career. Stolzschweiger played with the Toronto Legion in his rookie season and later for the Hamilton Canucks, Stockholm Rams, and Avangard Havoc.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Brandon Petan Jr @sadie Bric Sheithaus @Oldhead91 Deadpanda @Alex Ondrej Vencko @Mutti Youre Not Fucking Retiring @twists Spoiler For new players the VHL can be a scary place. Coming up against the league’s best can be intimidating if you’re not on top of your game, and physical play can certainly wear younger players down. Rookie seasons are rarely an easy time, but some players hop in the VHL in their first season and dominate, and clearly Petan was just too powerful and played with incredible confidence as he scored 74 points while getting 136 hits and 62 Shot blocks. Petan Jr will be a monster in just a few seasons, but this Dragon is already turning heads in a big way. Congrats to Brandon Petan Jr @sadie for winning the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy! LucyXpher 1,937 Posted yesterday at 02:39 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:39 AM Dustin Funk Trophy Awarded to the player deemed to be most improved in the VHL "This award was named the Dustin Funk Trophy upon its creation in S21 to honour a great player who always made sure he improved - Dustin Funk. In Funk's first 3 seasons in the league, he went from 31 to 112 to 134 points, before peaking at 144 in S6, while totaling 299 goals and 402 points in his illustrious 504 game Victory Hockey League career. Funk played for the Seattle Bears, Stockholm Rams and Riga Reign during his career.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Guntis Gavilrovs @Girts Jorgen Lovstrom @Pifferfish Phil Sakic @Phil Pombo @samx Spoiler When you more than double your goal total from 15 to 31, and nearly double your points total from 53 to 100, there’s a good chance you’ll be a favorite to win the Dustin Funk Trophy as the VHL’s most improved player. For Guntis Gavilrovs, S97 was a dream season that saw them reach career highs in nearly every significan statistic. To take such a huge leap from an already respectable performance the season before is truly impressive, especially while playing for a top team with plenty of competition for opportunities and ice time. Congratulations to Guntis Gavilrovs @Girts, the S97 Dustin Funk Trophy winner! LucyXpher 1,937 Posted yesterday at 02:41 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:41 AM Scott Boulet Trophy Awarded to the player deemed the best two-way forward in the VHL "This award was renamed from the Delvecchio Trophy to the Scott Boulet Trophy in S11 to honour the career of Scott Boulet. Boulet won the award four times; S1, S2, S5, and S6, while totaling 349 goals, 737 points, and 772 hits in his illustrious 432 game Victory Hockey League career. Boulet played for the Calgary Wranglers during his career.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Antonia Bucatini @CowboyinAmerica Grimgor Ironhide @FrostBeard Maverick Goncalves @leandrofg Spanish Moon Moth @Renomitsu Spoiler The award for top two-way forward can often be a tricky one to judge with the limited data available in STHS, but as 3rd highest point-getter in the VHL with the most shots on goal (609), Maverick Goncalves certainly has the offensive side covered. Where he begins to separate himself among the other candidates is in the hits category where he ranked 7th in the entire league, and in the shots blocked category where his total of 48 ranks highly amongst his contemporaries. Shooting at only 7.39%, with a little more puck luck Goncalves could very easily have won the league’s goal scoring and points race. Not only that, he put together a very strong defensive resume while playing on one of the league’s top teams in Moscow. Congratulations to Maverick Goncalves @leandrofg, the S97 Scott Boulet Trophy winner! Knight won the award twice; S20 and S21, while managing the Toronto Legion during his illustrious ten-season tenure. Knight won a Continental Cup in charge of the Legion and in S31 became the General Manager of the HC Davos Dynamo, winning the championship again.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Alex Johnston @Alex Blake Campbell @Banackock Bogdan Trunov @qripll Frank Chadwick @Frank Harry Callahan @dstevensonjr Lexie Leitner @LucyXpher Spoiler The S97 Vancouver Wolves, built from the ground up by Frank Chadwick, were the top team in the North American Conference and finished with the 2nd most wins (51) and 3rd most points (106). Chadwick’s team boasted strength at every position and featured 5 players with over 100 points on the season and 6 who were over a point-per-game. In goal, Soju made a strong case to be considered among the league’s best as well and Vancouver, under Chadwick’s leadership, had the 2nd fewest goals against (174), the 2nd most goals for (268), and the 2nd best goal differential (+94) in the VHL. With the core group of players in place, acquired mostly through the draft, Frank filled out his depth with trades for Eno Velveson, Celise Pereira, Einar Mathiesen, and Scrungle Bungle, while also shipping out Erik Thorvaldsson for a S99 PRG 1st and S97 LAS 2nd to make the cap work. Campbell won the award three times; S4, S5, and S7, while totaling 600 goals and 1239 points in his illustrious 577 game Victory Hockey League career. Campbell played with the Vasteras IK Black Eagles, Seattle Bears, Helsinki Titans, and Toronto Legion during his career.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Axle Gunner @Steve Harry Callahan @dstevensonjr Jorgen Lovstrom @Pifferfish Spoiler The Toronto Legion were flirting with missing the playoffs in the week leading up to the trade deadline, but at a certain point, Harry Callahan flipped a switch and rocketed to the top of the VHL points leaderboard. Perhaps it was his instrumental role in willing Toronto back firmly into playoff contention that swayed voters to his cause, or perhaps it was the fact that the next highest scorer on the Legion finished a whole 16 points behind him. Callahan led his team in goals (55), assists (60), and points (115), while also taking the most shots (602). He led all Legion forwards with 32 blocked shots and contributed the 2nd most hits on his team with 220. His 31 powerplay points were also a team high. LucyXpher 1,937 Posted yesterday at 02:54 AM Author Share Posted yesterday at 02:54 AM Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy ༻ꕥ༺ Awarded to a member nominated by the league for their efforts during the season "This award was created by the VHL in S70 following the tragic passing away of Elmebeck, a relatively new member of the league who was at the time GM of the VHLM's Saskatoon Wild. Every season since, the Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy is awarded to a member in the league who, like Elmebeck did in his short time here, makes a difference in some capacity for other members in a particular season, without holding a high-ranking VHL position. Starting in Season 91, the trophy is awarded once every two seasons to recognise those who made an impact over a two-season window.” (VHL Awards Portal) Here are the nominees: Bana @Banackock Doug @dstevensonjr Lucy @LucyXpher Ricer @Ricer13 Spoiler I know I’m far from the only person who feels that Doug certainly deserves this award. Doug has been an incredibly active member of the community over the past two seasons and has transitioned from his role of AGM in Toronto to the GM position. He is well loved by teammates and players on his team, as well as by opponents and fellow VHL members. Doug always brings a warmth and positivity to his conversations in Discord and on the VHL Forum, and truly makes an effort to build up other members and the community as a whole. We love Doug at VSN so much that at least 16 of us changed our usernames to some variation of Doug, and we formed the Council of Dougs in his honor. Some rumors even suggest that VSN might very soon become DSN (Doug Sports Network). You won’t find one person that has anything negative to say about Doug, and over the past couple of months, he’s really made his mark on this community in a positive way.
