Alright, I Feel It in My Old Bones.

Grandpa Boomer GIF by MOODMAN

I know I say this all the time but every time I've said it, you could probably start to feel it. Some it takes longer, maybe? Some a little quicker, obviously? Maybe around Season 20 is when I started to feel the first "ugh, here we go" or just a feeling of minimal exhaustion. Clearly it wasn't anything to be alarmed about because since then, Seattle, myself and those who have played here (and given it a chance) have had a lot of fun and found a lot of success. As the days go on and we creep closer to Season 100 and my 50th Season milestone, wow, do I feel it in my old bones. I feel tired. I feel it more than I ever have and I'm telling you right now, I never want to step down. I forever ever want to be one of the best. I want my reign to go on forever. It would be weird to see someone else at the lead of Seattle at this point and I feel like you'd be Lebron's son living in his shadow never living up to expectations or having those high expectations on them because of the history behind the name, the brand, the team or whatever. Seattle is mine and I don't want anyone else to have it.

  • 48 seasons out of 98 seasons I have been the general manager of the Seattle Bears. No, not in 5 different tenures/spans like other GM's do. This is consecutive. I was hired on May 11, 2016. 8 years, 10 months and 11 days ago. You also need to remember that before this, I was a dynamic and monster of a VHLM GM for 5 seasons, too. So in a way, it's been 53 seasons straight of non-stop GMing in this league. It's impressive to do anything for that long, lol.
  • If only @Will @Josh and whoever else touches the portal didn't wreck the HOF portion, at least for GM's, where you can't even sort between statistics anymore. It used to be a tool I loved to check in on. Players get tons of the love and articles about them, but GM's deserve a shit ton of recognition, too. We do a lot and sometimes put up with some stuff, too. Right now as it stands, my record is 1,953 - 1,308 - 287. 47 away from being the first ever GM to hit 2,000 wins and If remembering correct, I was the second ever to hit 1,000 after the legendary @Advantage
  • Playoffs is another beast. Neat to actually look at the list, though it would be nicer to be able to sort the list. As of last season I believe, Frank Chadwick actually dethroned @Devise and pushed them into 2nd place. The Vancouver GM now sits at 112 playoff wins all-time, with 3rd place now sitting at 111. Another neat finding I found, my good old sleepy buddy sitting in 4th at 108 and Euron Leonidas @Spartan hot on their tails at 105 career playoff wins to round out the top 5 GM's and the ONLY 5 GM's to crack 100 playoff wins in their careers. Devise did it in 300 tenures and always sold all his shit in order to do it. The other 3, imo, are lightyears above him. Spartan has done it all in one tenure which I just respect so much, too. I love the longevity. For myself, I sit at 220 wins all-time. 108 more than 2nd place. Seattle, based off the portal, has made the playoffs 37 out of the previous 47 seasons and we're hoping to make it 38/48 this season. 78.7% of the time we make the playoffs. That numbers OK, but wait, there's MORE! Seattle, under my tenure,  has won the Continental cup 9 times and has been to the finals 14. So out of total seasons (47), Seattle makes the finals 29.78% of the total time. Kinda means you have damn good odds of going to the finals with us. We've won the cup 19% of those 47 seasons. What's more fun it when you exclude the non-playoff seasons. When we make the playoffs, which we've done so far 37 times, we make the finals 37.83% and win 24.32%. Will these numbers go down? Probably. I'm not what I used to be... but also, the first 19 or so seasons of my GM career I really only won 1 cup. We have 8 cups in 29 seasons or something since S68. We've dominated. There's a couple teams who have came in and done the same. Vancouver a few times - especially meta @Nykonax. Moscow is always insane and will probably go down as a TOP 5 GM imo if they keep going and win a few more cups. People always go "it's more impressive to win the regular season as there's more games". Sure, if that's your thing go nuts in the NHL and win the presidents trophy. I dont give a shit. I build my team to win the championship, not the regular season. lmao. That's for people who are fine with 2nd place.

I'm currently at 864 words and this was meant to be a VHL.com to cap off the 2TPE I needed to finish this week. Might as well storm through and get nexts week PT's done, too, as it's a VERY busy and nerve racking week. We'll cap it off with a quick GM showcase with 5 GM's.

1. Who was the GM that kept me alive this long?

@hedgehog337 we knew this. I always felt like I had to keep going. He was right on my heels and the only one close enough to do anything about all my records and challenge any of them at the time. I always said once he goes, I'd go but I just can't. Sometimes I feel like I want to. Sometimes I feel so close. I've even instigated conversations with commissioning teams but I just can't say the words. Right now, probably @Spartan is what is fuelling the tank. It's at least what I'm using. It's what I've changed it. There isn't any ONE single person anymore but if I had to pick, that's the one. There's other good GM's and great ones currently (also a few that are, well, we'll let your imagination and opinions finish the thought), but Vancouver and Moscow are easily the top 2 others at this time and it's such a far off contest for the rest, it doesn't matter for me. Sure, @dstevensonjr (I love you. I don't mean to single you out but it's a great example of a new GM finding hot success fast) is starting the season 17-2-1 and it's VERY impressive, but they haven't had the time yet to say if it's skill, luck and what it will turn out to be. Will it be a one off? What's really impressive is a new GM building their team, going through the cycle, then having to rebuild and successfully getting out of the rebuild. The great GM's I've mentioned have all done it a few times. Doug hasn't. He inherited a team from @Moon and while he made some great moves to keep the team very strong, the team was already pretty damn good and has been for a long team. All you had to do was come in, move some picks to acquire something else and you keep the ball rolling.  Most GM's, as we can see at the bottom of the standings, struggle with it. Anyone can be hired to a new competitive team and win. Anyone can be hired to a new team with assets, make moves and change the landscapes. This doesn't and shouldn't take away their credit, but by no means should they be considered "great" imo. Compete. Win a cup. Then tear it all down, rebuild completely, dig yourself out of it and win more cups. Then, we'll talk.

2. Let's keep this going as we're closing in on 1,500 and I'd love a break from this league as I have such a busy, nervous and BIG week coming up. If I could GM any other team, which would I pick?

It would be kind of neat to get an expansion team if the league ever made it to those days again. That's a far off dream. Might as well buy a lotto ticket tonight, too. Maybe have better odds at this rate. If not, maybe a team that hasn't had a lot of success. It's harder to pick a team that it is to pick ones I wouldn't. LA Stars - no interest. Shit team name. I don't care for the logo. I just don't like it overall. It would be cool to win with them though because it's something they haven't done in forever. I think under @rory they had some decent seasons.  Pragues logo (sorry, @Tetricide) is easily one of the worst. Looks like an e-sports logo for a 12 year olds fortnite club. London because of the logo and name. United. I had it as much as Utah hockey club but for some reason don't hate HC Davos. London is a soccer club. Everything about it sucks. No to Chicago, Calgary and Toronto probably, too. Oilers fan baby. We've also had too long of a rivalry with Calgary on here. I hate them as an organization (not the members, but the Ronald McDonald loving Wranglers) but I should like them because they always let us win when it matters most.

Also, because I just seen @Knight post but when we renaming the David Knight trophy to the Blake Campbell so the Campbells can have another award named after them?
