  2. S66 OVERTIME HEROES VHLM PLAYOFFS The most exciting moments in playoff hockey are game-winning overtime goals. This article is a preview of a potential VSN piece that will come out after the conclusion of the VHLM Playoffs – “Overtime Heroes”, which will highlight the players and overtime moments in the Season 66 VHLM playoffs. Trevor Van Lagen - LW- S67 Draft Eligible @VanCanWin Quarter Finals – Game 2 vs. San Diego Player Season Stats: G | 28 A | 46 P | 74 (Series 1-0 Halifax) Halifax took game one against San Diego in decisive fashion and came back home to their home ice to try and take command of the series. Halifax took a 4-2 lead into the third period, but watched the Marlins fight back in the third to force overtime. The overtime session was dominated by San Diego, out-shooting Halifax 9-2, but at the 12:28 mark, Trevor Van Lagen scored in a net mouth scramble to take a 2-0 series lead, his second goal of the playoffs. If Halifax goes on to win this series, remember this goal as the turning point.
  3. Season 67 Mock Draft Series | 1st Round Part 2: The Next 5 In case you missed it: Click here for the Top-5 Mock Draft from earlier this week and see below for the picks. 1.01 - Phil Marleau - C 1.02 - Bjorn Scoringsson - W 1.03 - Hulk Hogan- D 1.04 - Aston Martin - C 1.05 - Rayz Funk - G 1.06 – Vancouver Wolves – W|39 – L|29 – OTL|4 The Vancouver Wolves sneak into the playoffs with the fifth best record in the regular season thanks to their dynamic offense led by veterans Beau Louth, Jake Davis and Rauno Palo – all of which were drafted in S62 or prior. Last off-season, they used the second overall pick to select winger Julius Freeman who put up a 12-27-39 stat line this season and has been developing very nicely for the Wolves. Their back-end is led by two more S62 veterans in Shawn Glade and Konstantin Mulligan, who are both top defensemen in the league. Overall, the roster is very well built right now but they need to start looking towards the future to build around the likes of Julius Freeman. The Pick: ACL TEAR – Winger – Ottawa Lynx @Quik Analysis: The second Lynx prospect off the board is ACL TEAR and Vancouver is ecstatic to grab him here at six. Of all the prospects in this class, TEAR may be the most VHL-ready and can immediately step in and make an impact. The one aspect that may turn General Managers off a bit is his style of play. Simply put, he’s an old-school style enforcer-grinder hybrid with little high-end offensive skill. He has managed 11 goals and 16 assists in the regular season for a high scoring Ottawa team. His strengths are checking, fighting, defense and strength while his areas to improve on are most of the offensive categories. It will be interesting to see where TEAR goes on draft night, will a team take an early gamble with the hopes of him developing more offense? ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 1.07 – HC Davos - W|37 – L|27 – OTL|8 Davos is back on the clock with the seventh pick in the draft after selecting center Aston Martin with their first pick in this mock. Davos is currently battling in the first round of the playoffs and will have another opportunity here to add to the prospect cupboard. Despite selecting Paddywagon and Past in Season 66, I think Davos here goes defense again and takes one of the biggest risers of this draft. The Pick: Lincoln Tate – Defense – San Diego Marlins @Tate Analysis: This may seem like a reach to some experts around the league, but Lincoln Tate has been earmarked as a sleeper in this draft for several weeks. His development with San Diego has raised the eyebrows of a handful of VHL teams, I’m told. Scouts describe Tate as a smooth, puck-moving defenseman who can provide high-end offense on a nightly basis. This is seen by his offensive production this season at San Diego. He led the team in overall scoring with 20 goals and 68 assists in just 65 games played, which is 7 less games than the rest of the team. This was also good for second best amongst all defenseman in the VHLM. Davos adds yet another dangerous young weapon to their blueline here with Lincoln Tate. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 1.08 – Seattle Bears (via CAL) - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9 Seattle clearly owns the first round of the Season 67 VHL Draft. This is their third pick in the top eight as the continue to look to build out their roster and prospect depth. This pick was acquired in a trade with the Calgary Wranglers in the blockbuster deal that saw Matt Thompson, Maxim Kovalchuk and Sebastian Ironside go from Seattle to Calgary. So far in this mock draft, the Bears have selected Phil Marleau first overall and goaltender Rayz Funk fifth overall. With the roster desperate for all-around talent, the Bears look to fill out the defense here. The Pick: Boone Jenton – Defense – Philadelphia Reapers @FakeJenton Analysis: The “Big 3” on defense of this draft are Hogan, Tate and Jenton, I could really see them going in several different orders. Nonetheless, the Bears are thrilled to add Boone Jenton to their team at the eighth pick. The second Reaper to go in the first round behind Scoringsson, Jenton had himself a very solid first professional season with 8 goals and 55 assists which put him sixth best on the roster. Jenton can skate very well and transition from defense to offense at a high level. He also plays a very sound defensive game in his own end. He may be the best pure defensive prospect in the draft. Marleau, Funk and Jenton is one hell of a haul for the last placed Bears. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 1.09 – Riga Reign - W|42 – L|23 – OTL|7 The Reign finished with the second best record in the regular season and when you look at their roster you can see why. They are stacked with high-end talent at all positions headlined by Podrick Cast, Edwin Preencarnacion, Ryan Kastelic and Kallis Kirketers in net. Las season they used the number one overall pick to take sensational prospect Hunter Hearst Helmsley who had himself a respectable 50 point rookie season for the Reign. Riga is clearly set up for success, but will use this pick to try and find one of the hidden gems in this class. The Pick: Michael Gary Scott – Right Wing – Mexico City Kings @Motzaburger Analysis: Riga takes one of my favorite players in this class in Michael Gary Scott of the Kings. Like Lincoln Tate, Scott has been rising up draft boards over the last few weeks thanks to his performance on and off the ice. Scott was featured on a very talented Kings roster and put up gaudy numbers with 42 goals and 42 assists, second most points on the roster. The 42 goals put him seventh best in the entire VHLM this regular season. Despite his size at 5’6 and 179 pounds, he manages to find himself in great scoring position frequently. His goal scoring is obviously his most dominant feature, but his puck skills and skating are also in the top tier of this class. Riga lands a potential star here with Michael Gary Scott. ................................................................................................................................................................................................................................. 1.10 – Calgary Wranglers - W|39 – L|28 – OTL|5 While the Wranglers traded their pick to Seattle in the aforementioned blockbuster deal, they managed to get back a first round pick in this draft in a trade with Helsinki. The Wranglers had themselves a very good regular season, finishing in third place due to strong offense down the middle and rock solid goaltending from Brick Wahl. They haven’t gotten much out of their S66 draft prospects so this pick here could be crucial in the long-term for the Wranglers. The Pick: Acyd Burn – Right Wing – Halifax 21st @Acydburn@Acydburn Analysis: Calgary goes with offensive-minded winger, Acyd Burn from Halifax. Burn really turned on the jets in the second half of the season after somewhat of a slow start and finished the season with an impressive 30 goals and 51 assists. He’s been surrounded this season by talented offensive players such as Blake Gaudette and AJ Axelsen, but Burn quietly put up a very strong season. He plays the game with speed and has a dangerous, quik shot off the wing. Sticking Burn on a line with one of Calgary’s veteran centermen could be fun to watch.
  4. Nice! 2-0 series start Big Shutout for dat boy Pekka
  5. Thanks man - yeah unfortunately I'm not privy to the internal discussions ACL will be in the second part of course, I wasnt sure how much the player build would be weighted so I slid him a bit
  6. Season 67 Mock Draft Series | 1st Round Part 1: Top 5 The VHLM regular season just concluded, which means the exciting VHLM playoffs are about to begin over the next couple days. It also means that we are that much closer to the highly anticipated S67 VHL Entry Draft. In case you missed it, I will be reporting on various draft and prospect related league content for the Victory Sports Network (VSN). Over the past few weeks, I have been highlighting the Top-3 draft prospects at each position and this week I will begin my Season 67 Mock Draft Series. This is Part 1 and will mock the Top-5 with analysis. The draft order ignored any lottery outcomes and instead went straight from the regular season league standings. While I am aware the order can and will change, I also cannot predict the future so for now this is our best bet! Without further ado – the top five picks of the Season 67 VHL Draft. 1.01 - Seattle Bears – W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9 The Seattle Bears are without a doubt in a rebuilding period after making the playoffs last year. They unloaded some veterans and accumulated three first round picks in this draft. This is a critical draft for the future of the Seattle Bears as it will be a major driving force in their success or failure over the next few seasons. After the retirement of veteran defenseman Samuel Gate, the Bears are left thin on defense besides the likes of S62 draft pick Lando Baxter. They used high draft capital on offense in Season 66 to draft Shane Mars and Valeri Morozov, both of which had a ton of promise to start but have garnered some long-term question marks as of late. This is a difficult pick for the Bears because I can see them go in a variety of directions. The Pick: Phil Marleau – Center – San Diego Marlins @Phil Analysis: Highlighted as the number 1 draft-eligible center in this class by yours truly in a recent article, the Bears go ahead and select Phil Marleau from the San Diego Marlins. When I look at the Bears roster, I see a black hole for a true number 1 center and they hope Marleau can fill that void. They’ll stick him between Mars and Morozov and watch some magic can happen. Marleau is described by many as a strong two-way centerman. He is very responsible defensively, great at faceoffs and plays a physical game (304 hits, not a big deal). While he may not “wow” you on a nightly basis with highlight reel goals, he plays the game in a way that makes everyone around him better. Don’t discount his offensive abilities though, in his 72 games played he registered 27 goals and 38 assists for 65 points. Most importantly, he possesses true leadership qualities and is without a doubt one of the favorites in the Marlins locker room. The Bears land a franchise centerman. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.02 – Malmo Nighthawks - W|28 – L|41 – OTL|3 The recent expansion team had an up and down season after being relatively hyped early on. Their roster has a fairly solid mix of veterans such as Matthew Materazo and Vaydar Odinsson, and rising stars such as Jerry Garcia (Season 66 draft pick), Jack Lynch (Season 65 draft pick) and Rusty Shackleford (Season 66 draft pick, currently in the VHLM). Like Seattle, I can see Malmo going in a few different directions at this pick, but I think they will try to take the best player available for them. The Pick: Bjorn Scoringsonn – Right Wing – Philadelphia Reapers @11 Eleven Analysis: Malmo goes with the natural goal scoring winger, Bjorn Scoringsonn at number two overall. Bjorn has been a wire-to-wire top draft prospect since the beginning of the season. Playing on a stacked Reapers roster in the “M”, his stats were good but not electrifying (30-36-66) as he took a slight back seat to the star power of VHL draft picks Kyle Sabertooth and John Frostbeard. Nonetheless, the Nighthawks here pick up a star in the making and the top winger available in Bjorn Scoringsonn. Bjorn possesses lethal offensive abilities off the wing and one of the deadliest wrist shots in the VHLM. Bjorn will be lighting the lamp in Malmo. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1.03 – Moscow Menace - W|26 – L|38 – OTL|8 The other expansion team, the Moscow Menace, finished the season just one point ahead of their expansion rivals and slot into the third pick here. The Menace are led by a pair of Season 66 draft picks in Jet Jaguar and Dimitri Voloshenko who had 90 and 70 points, respectively. They also have a handful of prospects developing pretty nicely in the VHLM such as Edward Vigneault, Emil Passerelli and AJ Axelsson. The future may be bright for Moscow, but this is a pick they certainly would love to hit a home run on. The Pick: Hulk Hogan – Defense – Mississauga Hounds @HulkHogan Analysis: Moscow has a decent mix of prospects and veteran defenseman, but they really lack that anchor on defense. Paolo Nano is the leader from the back end, but he has a few seasons until retirement. Komarov and Matthews are fine pieces, but have question marks. For Moscow, they take the consensus top defenseman on the board in Hulk Hogan. Hogan had himself an exceptional season for the Hounds, tallying 17 goals and 77 assists for 94 points, which put him number one in points amongst defenseman in the VHLM. This is a player Moscow can build around for years to come. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.04 – HC Davos (via TOR) – W|37 – L|27 – OTL|8 The playoff-bound HC Davos hold two selections in the first round of this draft. This selection here was acquired on February 28, 2019 in a trade with the Toronto Legion along with a 3rd round pick in exchange for talented veteran defenseman Robert Malenko. Davos had a solid year with 82 points and a playoff birth led by experienced forwards in Ryan Peace and Veran Dragomir. In the S66 draft, Davos invested in defensive talent with Charlie Paddywagon at #6 overall and Codrick Past at #13 overall. Both players stepped right into the VHL and have been developing nicely. This roster has a lot of nice pieces to build upon, so here they look to add some more young juice on offense. The Pick: Aston Martin – Center – Ottawa Lynx @Sullvino Analysis: The Davos roster is talented all-around and that is reflected by their fourth place finish this season. With the back end being addressed last year so this year they look to bulk up the offensive prospect pool with dynamic centerman, Aston Martin from the Ottawa Lynx. The UK-born centerman finished the season Top-5 in points with an even 100 and Top-3 in goals with 47; both of which were the best amongst all S67 prospects. The offensive explosion in his first professional season will not go unnoticed as he sneaks into the Top-5 in this draft. HC Davos has two very talented centers in S64 draft pick, John Madden and S63 pick, Ryan Peace. Aston Martin could slide into third-line center duties to build a highly dangerous center ice. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.05 – Seattle Bears (via NYA) - W|23 – L|40 – OTL|9 The Seattle Bears are on the clock again here with the fifth pick and their second pick inside the Top-5. This pick was acquired in a trade with HC Davos for Piotr Jerwa earlier this year as Seattle unloaded their veteran talent in a rebuilding attempt. With this first pick in this mock draft, Seattle landed centerman Phil Marleau to build out the middle of the ice with a franchise leader and they look to build out the backend here with the fifth pick. The Pick: Rayz Funk – Goalie – Mississauga Hounds @Rayzor_7 Analysis: Arguably the best player in this draft, Rayz Funk lands in Seattle at number five. I did consider mocking him at the first overall pick, but opted with the centerman. Ultimately, they still land their guy here and a franchise goaltender. The Bears roster two capable goalies in Tristan Iseult and Clayton Park, but I don’t think they can pass an opportunity to take the best goalie in the draft here. Statistically, Rayz Funk had a fairly average season, but the Hounds managed a 41-26-5 record and a playoff birth. Funk is without a doubt the top goalie available and a cornerstone to build around for any franchise. I see big things in his future in the VHL. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stay tuned into the VSN for the next 5 picks of the first round in a couple days!
  7. This post was spot on, in my opinion - especially the bolded section, which is something I think is critical. When I first joined this league / other leagues (and still now) - getting a mention in a post or article really got me more engaged on the site and interested. I would imagine this feeling is the same for most people. I just joined the VSN crew and one of the articles I am work-shopping is some sort of "New Player/Prospect Report" - to really try and focus on that aspect. Trying to engage some of the newer members/players.
  8. Introducing VSN Draft Insider | Sully Sullvino VHL News According to sources, the Victory Sports Network has agreed to terms with VHL Draft expert and insider, Sully Sullvino, who has spent the past five years working for TSN. The signing is part of a league-wide effort by the VHL to grow league content and coverage. Sullvino will use his years of draft and prospect coverage to provide the community with exclusive draft-related content. Here's the statement from the man himself. "Obviously looking forward to this opportunity here at VSN. I think the direction of the VSN is changing and I am happy to be apart of it. I look forward to providing the VHL community with relevant content on a weekly basis and interact with the community for new ideas in the future. For me, draft coverage, prospect analysis comes second nature so I look forward to bringing it to the VHL platform." While nothing is set in stone, in our brief sit down with Sullvino he mentioned that the community can expect the following type of articles to be produced in the future: Season 67 Top-3 by Position Analysis (goaltenders the only position left) Multi-part extensive Season 67 Mock Draft Season 67 Updated Sleeper Report Early looks into the Season 68 class Risers and Fallers Interviews with Draft Prospects New Player/Member Reports and Projections Draft Lookbacks "Through the Wire" - In-depth profiles on mid-season VHLM waiver/free agency moves And more... As mentioned above - all suggestions are welcome and make sure to check out the VSN page soon!
  9. 1. Personally - I think the Reapers have a nice one. 2. Probably the Toronto Legion or New York Americans - I think they both have history in this league 3. Ambrose Stark is a cool one 4. Lindberg hasnt been overly active, but his point production has been solid for a second pairing defenseman 5. I think we have as good a chance as anyone to win. 6. No
  10. Yeah definitely do after looking through the rankings. I want to turn this into a VSN series, 24/7 draft coverage - the Mel Kiper Jr. of the VHL
