As per usual I was sitting in discord without an idea for a PT this week when an interesting topic was mentioned. @Steve said he aimed to be one of "the few non white collar players" in the Hall of Fame, which was something I hadn't ever really considered being I've never had a VHL season. So I thought this might be something worth looking into, and so I present to you: WHY THE HALL OF FAME IS A HEAPING PILE OF GARBAGE FOR ANYONE WHO ISN'T STAFF We see a lot of players made by "employed" members either auto-cap or shave off the majority of the work regular members must go through in order to cap every week. The Hall of Fame makes this glaringly apparent. Fabio Jokinen (jRuttu) - Regular Member (?) - 0 TPE Rhett DeGrath (STZ)* - Recruitment Crew - 12 TPE Thanks @GustavMattias for the job pay review for this bullshit (To my knowledge,) Everyone who was starred either did at one point or currently does hold a staffed position, and anyone who is double starred is actively utilizing enhanced welfare (free 5 TPE a week). Out of 11 HOFers, only 3 can truly be considered "blue collar players", and of those players they have pretty recognizable names. This is not to say staff members automatically get HOF, that's kind of bullshit as building a strong player is important, but the inherent nature of guaranteed TPE lends itself to an easier road, and it's hard to dispute that fact. However perhaps there should be a system in place to separate these two entities within the considerations, perhaps a staff inductee and a blue collar inductee (when applicable). Maybe I'm stupid because looking back over that list it looks like that was the case anyways, I was just being a hardass and knocking enhanced welfare guys off of the "regular members" list as well. Whatever. I needed to write 500 words this week and this was something to write about. I'm rapidly running out of topics but fortunately the offseason ends this week so I can start finding real topics, like ripping on @Sonnet for being the biggest block of swiss the VHL has ever seen, or about how Wang is going to win rookie of the year or some nonsense. God I need VSN to hire me so I don't have to think of topics anymore and have my article fall apart and turn into garbage. Who would you be most excited to see join the squad? 2. The S69 FA pool is incredibly deep this year, with a lot of big names becoming available at the end of the season. Who’s the best on the market? 3. Last season we just barely lost the battle against Toronto for the playoffs. With new assets on the horizon, where do you expect us to place this coming season? 4. Following a somewhat disappointing end to what was an electric season for the Singaporean, Wang is now looking to his future in the VHL with the HC Davos Dynamo. Wang put up an astounding 95 points with the Mississauga Hounds in his first full season, coming behind only Balentine Kidd within the organization. The since dubbed "Kidd's Wang" pairing made a name for itself, and although the players are now headed their separate ways, Wang hopes to ride that momentum into his rookie season with the Dynamo in S69 (nice). Davos comes into this season holding onto only a few current VHLers, those being Bjorn Scoringson (491 TPE), Elasmobranch Fish (695 TPE), and goaltender Samuel Ross (295 TPE). The rest of the S68 squad has the option to enter into free agency, with several high profile names being on the market. This leaves reasonable concern as the team would be looking at running only 2 VHL skaters if they are unable to claim anyone from free agency. Prospect Edu Stava (189 TPE) is the only other active rookie the program has available to them, and they are reasonably a ways out from VHL level skating with the new 250 TPE cap. Wang has already exemplified the true scoring nature of his playstyle, and it looks as though his development will remain on pace to keep that goal in mind. "Ultimately I need to keep training to be faster, keep pushing the puck handling and scoring training, but I know I need to develop my defensive side at least somewhat for VHL play. I'll probably work on that during the offseason so I can focus on what is truly my game during the regular season." Assuming Davos pulls together the players for a true 2/3 line squad, we'd likely see Wang sitting on the 2nd or 3rd, and if he can keep up his impressive pace from last season, I'd say expect 50-60 points from the kid. Wang's already high skating and scoring stats put him in a position where he will likely be able to adapt his game for the VHL level with relative ease. We won't see any 90+ point seasons out the gate, but with time and development, we may see Wang become one of the leagues elite scorers. When asked about his expected role, Wang replied with the following: "I knew what I was signing up for, I'll probably play second or third line minutes, depending on who rejoins the team, until I develop into a true VHL player and have truly proven myself. I believe in this program and expect us to climb back to contention within 3 or 4 seasons." Davos is without a first round pick in the upcoming S69 (nice) draft, but have a plethora of second and third rounders to bank on the depth of the S69 (nice) draft class. We will see what Davos manages to pull together for this upcoming season, and what it holds for the true rookie Jerry Wang. 502 words
