Why was that even entered into the portal lol

i was wondering that myself but probably just to preserve the per season stats since thats the biggest pain in writing the articles

  2. Yeah I think the administrative burden outweighs the benefit unfortunately even it was feasible in terms of numbers

Definitely agree we should do more to keep these guys engaged throughout the time period tho.

    one idea:

From the start of playoffs to the end of off-season, give a small amount bonus TPE for any MS that interviews a new member that’s without a team. Limit to once or twice per season per person.

That way you encourage contact with existing members which honestly I could see being a bigger factor in losing people than lack of sims

Kinda does, yeah. The bad has to be taken with the good on a builder consideration, and his bad was really bad. Like, it wasn't single handed, but he did almost kill the league, which is kinda the opposite of a builder lol

Yeah, i mean it's tough sell. There's never really been a 'controversial' builder inducted as far as I can tell -  Kendrick would presumably be the closest to the level of shit boubabi caused, but obviously he was inducted long before his role in the VHL 's drama era. So nothing really to go off historically.

    I'm of two minds:

    • On one hand, I obviously agree he caused a boat load of problems and it's easy to see that as outweighing the positive.
    • On the other, that was a very strange time in the VHL - there's no excusing him or what he did but he wasn't the only one at fault and the whole saga was clearly exacerbated by failed leadership (my bad). If you're able to view it as a rough time in VHL history (and his mental stability) that we've since overcome and made peace with, it's easier to see him for the positive things.

I don't really have a strong opinion either way but I can see both sides. I think Green is an excellent choice for this season.

  4. Stats

    • Standings page is now defaults to per conference
    • Overall standings still available on a different tab

    Drafts

    • Added Next and Previous buttons to draft pages so you don't need to return to the draft list to navigate through drafts
    • Some minor changes in the hopes of better performance when the drafting is taking place, including:
      • The "From XX via XX" messages will no longer be visible when drafting is happening. They'll still be there before and after the draft.

    Updating

    • Update validation was updated earlier this week to conform with the new welfare rules

    Other

    • Fixed the broken links on team page schedules

I mean if we paid in house for it but at a rate that would be affordable to us; and we added maybe a couple of names on top of @Will and @Josh, I'm kinda curious...what we could do. It's a sim engine so it's not like we are talking about a project that's going to be the easiest thing to accomplish, otherwise it'd be huge. But yeah...I'm really curious what the war room table for that looks like if Blue just sat down and said "okay how would we really go about making this happen in house."

Its hard to say.. it's a really complex project making a sim engine. I don't have much experience in that kind of area so I'm not the one to say the feasibility of it but according to the STHS site it took him 800+ hours to develop version 1.0.0 of STHS and by the time he finished V2 (the one we use) he was over 2000 hours. And this was after he was on the dev team for a different sim engine so he already had a head start. Now, there's a ton of features in STHS that we don't use or need (i.e. finances, arenas, ect) and STHS is written in an archaic language so that would cut that down.. i'd imagine we'd only need the simplest thing - something capable of storing our players/attributes, ways of assigning those players to teams, making a schedule, accepting lines and simming games.

But unfortunately simming games is obviously the most complicated part, and for all its problems its probably questionable at best whether that part could be done better than STHS without actually paying a developer.

It would be incredibly difficult to replicate the text editor in the forum on the portal, it would be quite easy to just grab this data from their updates and display on a user profile page however.

yeah to expand on this although we can and do use the *same* text editor module as the forum (for example in the My Notepad page), IPB’s version is very customized with their own markup for things like Quotes and other forum feature that would make it tough to have something submitted portal-side

I have been casually looking at something similar to SBA’s ‘clippy’ or whatever it’s called..having a feed on a user page would be basically the same functionality

Yeah none of it is automated so it's fine. When trivia moves to the portal then the validation gets a little more fun.

Yeah that’s a good thought actually.. I’m probably going to run into the same issue that started this when I automate job pay lol

You wouldn't really need to change anything validation wise, just leave it the way you were putting it with Welfare/Pension lowering the cap to 10/11. If they claim their primary first, then it limits them to 6 from secondaries anyway. If they claim the secondaries first, updaters still need to verify everything's proper anyway.

Would it be the same? Honest question lol, this is a pain to envision:

It wouldn't prevent someone from claiming say 7 TPE from secondaries (unless the updaters noticed) and then grabbing 3 from welfare (if they weren't pension eligible), or alternatively they would only be able to claim 5 from their regular PT due to the 12 cap. So it does kind of balance out either way, I think.

So..I don't think there's really anything wrong with that - but i'd that argue keeping the secondary limit in the rules causes more confusion and not less ?

  9. 5 minutes ago, Quik said:

I left it as is to not confuse the masses lol

I mean, it was kind of central to the change ? the 6 TPE limit on secondary TPE is what makes validating difficult when you at the same time have people claiming 6 or more from job pay

Welfare already reduced the cap under the old rules so i'm not sure it really changes anything without removing the secondary cap

  10. 17 minutes ago, Quik said:

As you may recall, last year we implemented a cap of 6 TPE on secondary PTs. This will remain in effect

On 8/4/2020 at 3:34 PM, Quik said:

I guess this would remove the need to limit secondary PTs to 6, since the only way people would actually earn more than 6 through secondaries is if they don't do a primary, and they'd still be limited to a max of 11 while contributing a fair amount.

    Just to clarify.... ?

  11. 2 minutes ago, Josh said:

Might need some validation to say if someone is at 12 job pay and they click welfare it doesn't remove a TPE or 2 from them haha. They probably deserve it at that point though.

Yeah I've added some handling if the welfare comes out to be 0 or less ?

    5 minutes ago, Josh said:

It does but I'm worried we're getting more obfuscated instead of making the system simpler.

Idk, if i put myself in the shoes of a new member, i would find the current secondary PT rules and not-so-clear consequence of claiming Welfare pretty confusing

This thread is definitely a good way to get a headache but the proposed rules are simpler the old rules on their own IMO

Oh that makes sense then. Good stuff

Yeah I think it makes sense.

And if it went the other way, where the member claimed their 4 TPE from Welfare first and then went to claim their 7 TPE from jobs, they’d get an error that the update would cause them to exceed their 10/week cap and then they’d just have to reduce their job TPE accordingly for that week

  13. 10 minutes ago, McWolf said:

That, and they can't officially claim welfare on top of their jobs. So their weekly cap can't drop to 10. It's mostly why I brought it up now, else I feel like this falls in a weird grey zone.

we’ll allow welfare to be reduced to comply with the reduced cap. Example: Someone not eligible for pension gets 7 TPE from jobs and stuff. They’re eligible for welfare, but their cap will be 10. They can claim 3 from welfare.

The portal will take of this adjustment automatically, if it’s necessary

For everything but job pay we will keep a maximum of 2 TPE per? Also added reviewing.

yeah sorry the limits on individual items activities would remain the same

  15. 37 minutes ago, Quik said:

    Makes sense.

I'm not really against yours either - I just assumed it would be the same as multiple jobs since we're sort of saying any combination of secondary activities and/or one PT is fine.

Just to clarify exactly what I'm proposing, in rules form:

    Capped TPE

    • Point Tasks:
      • Media Spot
      • Graphic
      • Podcast
      • Welfare
    • Secondary:
      • Job Pay
      • VHL.com/VHL Radio
      • Affiliate VHL.com
      • Press Conferences
      • Trivia
      • Reviewing

    Weekly Capped TPE Limit

The weekly capped TPE limit starts at 12 capped TPE/week for all members. The limit may be reduced by claiming welfare as follows:

    • to 11 capped TPE/week by claiming the VHL Pension Plan
    • to 10 capped TPE/week by claiming the VHL Welfare Program

Within the weekly limit, players can earn TPE through any combination of capped TPE, subject to the following:

    • A maximum of ONE Point Task may be completed per week
    • There are individual restrictions and weekly limits on most secondary activities, see Section 10.2

So no differentiation between multiple jobs and single jobs paying 6+. Anyone can claim welfare (if they haven't done a MS, GFX or Podcast), but their weekly cap is going down, and anyone can reach their cap however they want.
