Kekzkrieg reacted to studentized in Some quick predictions for S70 (North American conference )
The conference is looking pretty stable at this point, so I'm sure none of these will be that bold. Nevertheless here's how I think it will play out.

New York and Vancouver will dominate most of the NA conference throughout the regular season. It will probably be a tight race to the end. HHH and Boris the Forest will be the top 2 forwards of the conference.

Seattle will quietly make the playoffs and once again do some damage there. I'm not saying they will be a threepeater, but I think they are poised for another deep(ish) run.

D.C will pull an S69 New York; start off slow but finish strong. I fully expect D.C to squeak into the playoffs and have a competitive first round series, much like NY last year.

Calgary will stay status quo in regular season wins. The future is brighter than ever but this won't be the year. They should finish close to D.C given they still have a bit of veteran talent

Toronto will suck, but not as much as Davos.

Bonus Continental Cup finalist prediction: Vancouver. Would be too homer of me to pick NY and I'm too pessimistic to pick Seattle, despite my gut telling me so.

Kekzkrieg reacted to diamond_ace in Steals by Percentages; S68 draft
The Season 68 draft, the first draft to include the two expansion teams, was also a draft where the values now vary wildly from the values at the time of the draft. There were some players in the first round that seemed to be great picks at the time, and have now turned out to be significantly worse than expected. There were also players very late on that have been much higher values than they were originally expected to be. This will be (shockingly) an article where I actually do research (gasp!) and find out the steals, the busts, and everything in between compared to expectation. It'll be a relatively simple bit of math - what percentage of the player's current TPE has been earned after the draft? Strictly TPE, not TPA, I don't care if they've banked.

    Round 1:
Condor Adrienne - 797 now, 433 at draft, 45.67% of TPE earned since draft
Lance Flowers - 693 now, 365 at draft, 47.33% of TPE earned since draft
Thorny Underyew - 356 now, 313 at draft, 12.08% of TPE earned since draft
Jeff Downey - 647 now, 305 at draft, 52.86% of TPE earned since draft
Luciano Valentino - 646 now, 297 at draft, 54.02% of TPE earned since draft
Frans Eller - 294 now, 290 at draft, 1.36% of TPE earned since draft
Teemu Lehtinen Jr - 373 now, 292 at draft, 21.72% of TPE earned since draft
A Red Guy - 632 now, 270 at draft, 57.28% of TPE earned since draft
Fredrik Elmebeck - 544 now, 252 at draft, 53.68% of TPE earned since draft
Samuel Ross - 311 now, 233 at draft, 25.08% of TPE earned since draft
Raymond Bernard - 609 now, 265 at draft, 56.49% of TPE earned since draft
Wolf Stansson Jr - 529 now, 287 at draft, 45.75% of TPE earned since draft

So the first round has a lot of people between about 45 and 55, which is great for this stage of the draft. People who were heavy earners before the draft can't really have gotten that high of a percentage, so you want a player who has earned about as much since the draft as before. There are, however, four players who've fallen well off the mark: Samuel Ross, with only 25.08% of his TPE earned since the draft, Teemu Lehtinen Jr, with 21.72%, Thorny Underyew, with 12.08%, and the worst of all, Frans Eller with only just over a single percent.

    Round 2:
Owen Nolan - 614 now, 262 at draft, 57.33% of TPE earned since draft
Kaspars Claude - 304 now, 237 at draft, 22.04% of TPE earned since draft
Bruce Grimaldi - 185 now, 176 at draft, 4.86% of TPE earned since draft
Micha Sage - 303 now, 266 at draft, 12.21% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Seabass Perrin - 520 now, 200 at draft, 61.54% of TPE earned since draft
Ricky Johnson - 430 now, 200 at draft, 53.49% of TPE earned since draft
Willie Dredge - 450 now, 224 at draft, 50.22% of TPE earned since draft
Sigard Gunnar - 499 now, 265 at draft, 46.89% of TPE earned since draft
Jeff Tates - 319 now, 184 at draft, 42.32% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Aamon Grim - 238 now, 197 at draft, 17.23% of TPE earned since draft
Finnegan MacBurn - 200 now, 174 at draft, 13.00% of TPE earned since draft
Jerry Wang - 370 now, 137 at draft, 62.97% of TPE earned since draft
Balentine Kidd - 302 now, 171 at draft, 43.38% of TPE earned since draft
Fang Flashback - 291 now, 179 at draft, 38.49% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED

The second round starts to have a lot more wild variance. The first round basically if you didn't miss entirely, your player was fine (or in the case of New York, even if you missed once, your other three players were fine). In the second, some of the players have already retired, a few more have gone inactive, and we even see the first two players breach the 60% threshold (Seabass Perrin of Prague with the best combo of percentage and pure TPE we've seen so far, and Jerry Wang of Vancouver, formerly of Davos, with the best percentage). Again, anyone in the 40s or 50s has done just fine for their teams, excluding retired players and the now-inactive Balentine Kidd who was low enough at the time that his percentage could afford to rise before he left.

    Round 3:
Gert B Frobe - 323 now, 210 at draft, 34.98% of TPE earned since draft
Andrej Petrovic - 278 now, 166 at draft, 40.29% of TPE earned since draft
Ryan Busser - 405 now, 186 at draft, 54.07% of TPE earned since draft
Killy Foilen - 329 now, 137 at draft, 58.36% of TPE earned since draft
Mac Hooper - 297 now, 165 at draft, 44.44% of TPE earned since draft
Nate Telker - 381 now, 127 at draft, 66.67% of TPE earned since draft
Ryo Yamazuki II - 378 now, 200 at draft, 47.09% of TPE earned since draft
David Wallace - 250 now, 137 at draft, 45.20% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Jaxon Walker - 278 now, 161 at draft, 42.09% of TPE earned since draft
Tony Bolonee - 342 now, 161 at draft, 52.92% of TPE earned since draft
Liam Rooney - 202 now, 149 at draft, 26.24% of TPE earned since draft
Jacob Perry - 433 now, 164 at draft, 62.12% of TPE earned since draft

Much like the second round, the third round has a bit of a range, but there are more players who are kind of in the middle. Hooper and Rooney are inactive (both of DC's picks) - if you take a step over to our other expansion team, Prague covers the entire range; one retired player in Wallace, one decent earner in Frobe, and one massive steal in Perry. Speaking of Perry, he and Nate Telker of Moscow join Perrin and Wang in the 60% plus club. In fact, in terms of pure TPE, Perry is only lower than 4 of the second rounders, and Telker plus Ryan Busser and Ryo Yamazuki II (at 381/405/378) are only lower than 5.

    Round 4:
Alyxander Hunter - 208 now, 171 at draft, 17.79% of TPE earned since draft
Chad Gilbert - 273 now, 192 at draft, 29.67% of TPE earned since draft
Nate Wright - 271 now, 102 at draft, 62.36% of TPE earned since draft
Roadkill Steve - 250 now, 127 at draft, 49.20% of TPE earned since draft
Justin Rushmore - 159 now, 157 at draft, 1.26% of TPE earned since draft
Ondrej Ohradka - 279 now, 115 at draft, 58.78% of TPE earned since draft
Alex Armstrong - 131 now, 51 at draft, 61.07% of TPE earned since draft
Block Buster - 320 now, 147 at draft, 54.06% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Case Martell - 153 now, 152 at draft, 0.65% of TPE earned since draft
Joakim Sakic - 194 now, 94 at draft, 51.55% of TPE earned since draft
Julian Blackthorn - 86 now, 74 at draft, 13.95% of TPE earned since draft
Ben McGirr - 286 now, 86 at draft, 69.93% of TPE earned since draft

Round 4 has a lot of people who are inactive - this is a round where the percentages really do tell the story. Anyone higher than 40 is still at least semi-active, with the exception of the retired Block Buster. Ben McGirr is the first player to nearly catch the 70% barrier, and in fact, when I plugged that into the calculator I was surprised to see it come out on that end of said barrier. He joins Armstrong, Wright, and the players mentioned in earlier rounds in the 60% plus club. Armstrong is still floating around despite only having 131 TPE, ideally for Moscow he'll pick it up a bit but he still has a better chance of eventually making it than the players who are fully inactive. Outside of the retired Buster, McGirr is now the highest TPE in the round, although Ohradka and Wright are both in the same range (as is Gilbert, but he's inactive).

    Round 5:
Jason Connors - 147 now, 117 at draft, 20.41% of TPE earned since draft
Mike Van Stronk - 132 now, 103 at draft, 21.97% of TPE earned since draft
Bud Knight - 227 now, 163 at draft, 28.19% of TPE earned since draft
Beau Bennett - 137 now, 137 at draft, 0% of TPE earned since draft
Ryan Dingle - 50 now, 44 at draft, 12.00% of TPE earned since draft
Ryan Chism - 105 now, 105 at draft, 0% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Benson Kramer - 163 now, 120 at draft, 26.38% of TPE earned since draft
Alex - 97 now, 96 at draft, 1.03% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED
Keith Harris - 87 now, 87 at draft, 0% of TPE earned since draft
Cameron Eastwood - 70 now, 70 at draft, 0% of TPE earned since draft
Raleigh Ritchie - 313 now, 73 at draft, 76.68% of TPE earned since draft
Lukas Schweitzer - 68 now, 50 at draft, 26.47% of TPE earned since draft - RETIRED

Let's get the obvious out of the way now: one of these things is not like the others. Raleigh Ritchie is the first and only player to break the 70% barrier. This, of course, minorly annoys me as I was messaging Danger Golding on Discord from around the Harris pick, waiting for him to fall to my pick, only to see him go one spot earlier. It happens though, and such is the nature of drafts. Schweitzer is at least around as a member, although now as Aleksandra Olsen. Additionally, Bud Knight popped back up last week, and may just eke out enough to make the VHL after all.

    Top 10:
    Raleigh Ritchie 76.68%
    Ben McGirr 69.93%
    Nate Telker 66.67%
    Jerry Wang  62.97%
    Nate Wright 62.36%
    Jacob Perry 62.12%
    Seabass Perrin 61.54%
    Alex Armstrong 61.07%
    Ondrej Ohradka 58.78%
    Killy Foilen 58.36%

We've gone through D.C.'s drafts thus far, now it's time to examine some trades, as they kind of go hand in hand.

    S67 off-season
This one was simple, take a guy that Shawn asked me to, and he gives me a decent free pick. Of course, the player was inactive, and I honestly can't even remember who it was off the top of my head, but I'll take the pick regardless, seeing as how there were not many players on Davos I was particularly attracted to.

Similar idea to the one above, but this deal was actually made during the draft. Bush told us that whoever took Malenko from him first would get the third, I ended up taking him with the 5th pick in the expansion draft, awarding me a mid-round pick.

This one raised a few eyebrows, but I think it's quite simple really. I was hoarding picks, and would have loved to take advantage of the pick attached to an inactive player that a lack of actives would have given me, but Seattle had a couple active players. Even before this pick, Prague took advantage of it and grabbed an inactive and a 4th from Toronto, leaving me to figure out what to do with Seattle. I figured that if I took Kovalchuk, Bana would be likely to send me an offer at at least the same value as what d_a took from Toronto. Lo and behold, he instantly shot me an offer of 3rd + 4th, which was better value than the pick right before me, and I was happy to take it.

I have made my distaste at my initial draft position quite clear at this point, and I wasn't satisfied with 11th overall. If the league wouldn't help me, I'd do it myself. This trade up to 5th overall let me bring in Valentino @Kekzkrieg, the first entry draft pick of the franchise. Couldn't be happier with it.

    S68
This was supposed to be the first part of a trade that would have me claiming Kingfisher in IFA and sending him over later in the season. A wrench was thrown into this when I actually lost the claim on Kingfisher (somehow, another thing to complain to the league about I suppose). Victor promised to make it back up to me someday because otherwise I just paid to pick up a cap dump. The nerve, eh?

First real player trade for D.C. here. We played a few games with just a bot goalie and really only two-three active roster players before bringing in @frescoelmo and @Snussu. To date, the two remain with the team, and the value that we gave up for them is far outweighed by the value they bring to the team both on the ice and in the locker room. The only reason they ended up coming so cheaply was because Vancouver simply had too many players, and weren't able to give either of them any ice time at all.

The first big boy, and the first time I ever traded away any player (an active player to boot). When I took Jerwa in the expansion draft, my intention was always to sell him as a rental at the deadline. Luckily, @majesiu was a good sport about it and waived his No Trade Clause to give me the best return I could find, which was stapling a 3rd round pick to him and sending him to Davos for what I hoped would be a lottery 1st round pick. Davos ended up making a late season push for playoffs, so it fell to 7th overall, but that was good enough for me to bring in another really solid player. The kicker is that Jerwa ended up coming back to D.C. in free agency, despite offers from better teams.

    S68 off-season
Picking up an extra 4th rounder in exchange for taking on two seasons of Jenton's and MacBurn's salaries (Puidgemont expired the same off-season in which they were acquired). The value I got here is virtually nonexistent truthfully speaking, but I also only really lost out on a bit of bonus room for my active players. The real win for me here is the goodwill I hopefully accumulated for some future deals.

This is how @Victor ended up making things right from our part 1 up there. Shipping me some salary and a 3rd while also sending me that 4th rounder back. Komarov actually retired before the season and Hawk was eligible to be sent down, so I ended up eating 0 salary in this deal. It all worked out.

This really should have gone under the draft article, because this was a draft day deal, but it is technically a trade. From several weeks before the draft, @McWolf (DCD AGM) and I had our 7th (or was it 8th) overall pick chalked in as being Guy Lesieur @KC15. He was projected to go a few picks later, and he'd written many articles talking about how he really badly wanted to be a Dragon, so we didn't think we would have any issues picking him up in that slot. Then @hedgehog337 came in and did some hedge things, and we watched Lesieur go off the board just one pick before our own. Now, I was at some party or other halfway across the world at this point, so McW and I had organized a contingency plan in case this specific scenario occured. I told him to instantly offer anyone who grabbed Lesieur 1-3 slots ahead of us the Davos 1st plus our 3rds in the next two drafts. Thankfully, hedge accepted the offer, and we brought our boy home. Although I'm sure most viewers of the draft were annoyed by the 5-10 minute delay between the two picks.

Simple cap dump deal, we've still got some cap space to work with, so we reacquire the 3rd we gave up for Lesieur and send off the later 4th.

    S69
Oh look, here's that S70 DCD 3rd again, going back to Riga. Good thing that isn't actually a player, because then he'd have spent dozens of hours on planes at this point. This deal was actually interesting though, not a cap-related deal, as it was executed mid-season on the same day that we picked Mars up from inactive FA. Actually, hedge's reason behind giving us the upgraded pick was that seeing as how Mars was on inactive free agency, any attempt at picking him up would be made public, and anyone with a higher priority than Riga (basically the whole league) would have the chance at grabbing him. D.C., on the other hand, was first in the priority list, so we were able to grab him instantly, and ship him off to Riga right away for an upgraded pick.

    S69 off-season
This is where things start to get fun. After two losing seasons, D.C. is starting to look like a hockey team. Toronto is entering a fire sale, and so we grabbed a dman from them for a pair of mid-round picks. The added bonus to us is that @Sharkstrong actually joined the locker room and returned to activity shortly after the deal. The jury's still out on whether Fish stays on defense or if he makes the switch to forward, but he's poised to be an impact player right away for the Dragons regardless.

This deal actually took forever to iron out. I knew that I wanted to trade our S70 1st if it didn't lottery out to 1st or 2nd, as I felt like the top two in the draft were eons beyond anyone else. I had some offers that related to draft picks and other players, but some players in Seattle were the ones I was most interested in, due to their combination of age, member, TPE earning rate, etc. Understandably, @Banackock was having some real issues trading any part of his beloved core away, which is why negotiations took so long. This deal will end up looking like an extreme boom or bust depending on whether or not @FrostBeard chooses to leave in free agency or if he extends with the Dragons.

Kekzkrieg reacted to Enorama in Triple Draft Recap - D.C. Dragons
Yesterday marked my third VHL Entry Draft since being named GM of the North American expansion franchise the D.C. Dragons. Now that I've got a decent sample size down, I figured I would do some base level analysis on how my picks have looked thus far, starting with our inaugural draft in S68.

    S68:
    Round 1, 5th Overall: Luciano Valentino @Kekzkrieg
I used a S69 2nd round pick to trade my S68 12th overall pick to 5th overall because I had my eyes on some specific guys in the 3-6 area. I couldn't be happier that Valentino is who I went with in the end. He's been a great member of the leadership core of our young team, and he just signed himself a career contract to stay a Dragon through to retirement.

    Round 2, 14th Overall: Kaspars Claude @Bruins10
A first gen member that I thought had a ton of potential because of the way his graphics were getting pumped up left and right, but life got in the way and he dipped out fairly early into his rookie campaign. I've heard that he's since returned to other leagues, but has not been active here in quite some time. This was really early for me to be landing my first major bust.

    Round 2, 18th Overall: Ricky Johnson @Midnite
Johnson has done well for his draft position. As a SBA welfare member, I was afraid that the split would scare him off, but instead he's been just as active since then. Just recently, he put pen to paper on his first regular contract and he's in a position to be a solid #3 dman for quite some time.

    Round 2, 25th Overall: Balentine Kidd @TukTukTheGreat
This was looking like a steal of a deal right after the draft and I thought I would be able to pull his max potential out of him due to us having ties from EHM leagues, but he quickly lost interest in the league shortly into his second VHLM season, and has gone entirely active since. Another bust for me.

    Round 3, 31st Overall: Mac Hooper @MacH
I thought Mac would have an easier time than others would staying active due to how his articles and graphics were more inventive than what you would normally see from a first gen member in their draft year, and this proved to be true for the first year following the draft, but this didn't last for long. He has since fallen off the face of the earth, and due to how deep this draft class was, this marks another bust.

    Round 3, 37th Overall: Liam Rooney @elrune1988
Same story as Kidd up there, but he was slightly less active in the lead up to the draft, hence his lower draft position. The third of the EHM league trinity, Telker @Telkster, was who I had pencilled in here, but @Victor had to go and yoink him earlier.

    Round 4, 46th Overall: Block Buster @Banana2311
Buster was poised to be the steal of the draft when she restarted updating the day after picking her up in the 4th round. At this point nobody being taken had updated within the past week or two, so to even get a single update out of Buster would be considered a win. The young goaltender went even further, claiming ~10 TPE every week solidly for a couple seasons, even making some solid VHL starts to the tune of .908 SV%, but then she up and retired, citing a lack of time to visit the site.

    Round 4, 49th Overall: Julian Blackthorn @LattimoreIsland
This is the first attempted steal of a pick based on affiliate members. Latti is a GM of mine in the EFL, so I knew I could drag him over here occasionally. He updated a bit following the draft, but has since fallen to inactivity once more. Can't call this one a steal nor a bust, more of a "eh".

    Round 5, 61st Overall: Raleigh Ritchie @DangerGolding
Remember how I almost called Buster the steal of the draft? Forget that. This man returned from the coma that sidelined him for a full season before the draft and has now surpassed 300 TPE and will be starting on the second line of the Dragons for S70. I picked him based on recognizing the name from an active member in the SBA, so I knew that he could get some easy TPE every week should he be convinced to re-join the VHL. In a re-draft, you'd likely see Ritchie going somewhere in the 2nd round, making him not only the steal of the draft, but potentially one of the biggest draft steals of all time.

    S69:
    Round 1, 2nd Overall: Benny Graves @STZ
Pretty obvious choice at 2nd here, and he was who I had pegged at 1st overall anyways, so I was ecstatic when he fell into my lap. Since draft day he's already cemented himself as our 1C for the foreseeable future and has earned himself an A on his chest.

    Round 4, 47th Overall: Igor Trice @jakejohn17
45 entire picks later we finally hit our second and final pick of the draft. By this point everyone that had updated within the past several weeks had been off the board for at least 10 picks, so I picked someone based on name alone (Igor is fun). Much to my surprise, jakejohn is actually an active member of the SBA. I was able to contact him the day after the draft, but he wasn't interested in returning, such is life. As an aside, the person I was angling for at this slot was @LittleRiDog, but he went two slots earlier to Calgary. He's since retired and recreated, so there's a possibility I could have dragged him back with his OG player, who knows.

    S70:
    Round 2, 14th Overall: Derek Eriksson @DirtyDerek
After trading away our 3rd overall pick to add some firepower to our offense now (named @FrostBeard), we enter the draft early in the second round. I was always angling towards a forward at this slot (had @JDGraves in mind before he went to Helsinki at 10th) or goaltender (had @ROOKIE745 in mind before his unfortunate BPA to Davos at 9th), but Eriksson was on my short list of three from the beginning as well. He'll be easy to harass to update going forward because I can be at his door in 14 minutes or so, so he'd best turn into one of the best performers of the draft class or he'll answer to me.

Round 4, 42nd Overall: Crush Cile @Savoire Faire
Similar pick to Ritchie in S68 and Trice in S69, I picked Cile based on him belonging to an affiliate member, Savoire Faire is better known as KWally in other leagues, and I knew he was still active in these other leagues, so I shot him an invite to our LR this morning after drafting him late last night. He's since joined the LR, sent in a few updates, and has expressed a desire to stay active via affiliate welfare for the time being, if we were to re-draft this today, we'd likely put him somewhere in the late 2nd or early 3rd, making this mid 4th round pick an early contender for the steal of the night.

Things are going well, for those who are curious my son has taken to the chemo well. Things looking up, my wife and daughter are both in good health. My job, settled down again after our usualy christmas rush people blowing fuses left and right trying to make beautiful houses for the holidays.

The few months fully away from the league, and the about half a year i was barely active. Given me a nice breather. I dont really desire to join this season. As the draft just occured, or is going too soon? So figure another couple months away for another season will give me a nice breather.

It also brings me to my next topic. As always my player will be russian national, he will be a Komarov. However i want to give the league, the choice in his first name, can not be Sergei, Vladimir, Pavel, or Evgeni as they have graced the league already. As well as what position/player arch i should be. I will rule out goalie right away as i was never a TPE whore, to be an elite goalie so that position makes no sense.

Guy Lesieur, RW for the D.C. Dragons, is more than excited about his team’s chances in S70. Why? In S68 the Dragons were 20-49-3 (43 points) and improved to 25-41-6 (56 points) in S69. That’s an increase of over 30% in point production in just one year.

And with S70 just on the horizon things just keep getting brighter and brighter. Of course, the core group of young bucks is just getting better. Lesieur, himself, started as one of bottom 10 TPE men in the VHL, but has steadily earned at near max rates all year long and he is joined by Graves, Washington, Tates, and Hooper.

But GMs @Enorama and @McWolf were not content to rest on the improvement in the young core. They went out and got two superstars: John Frostbeard @FrostBeard and Elasmobranch Fish @Sharkstrong. Frostbeard brings 32 goals and 28 assists and the culture of winning from Seattle and Fish (8 goals, a whopping 46 assists, 129 blocked shots, and 177 hits) becomes a companion to D.C. defensive standout Luciano Valentino (11 goals and 35 assists).

To put the Frostbeard acquisition in perspective, in S69 Mikko Aaltonen scored 32 goals but the next highest goal total was 15 (Jerwa and Graves). Adding Frostbeard instantly eliminates the “one tricky pony” feel of the S69 Dragons and vastly improves the chances of the D.C. hockey club.

Yes, indeed. S70 cannot come soon enough!

    1. Say we add one F and one D this off-season, one in FA and one in the draft, which should we add in which way?
I think our GM made the right moves to fill in what's we're missing
    2. Who goes 1st overall, Lahtinen Jr. or Encarnacion?
Encarnacion cause I can always appreciate a talented D-man.
    3. Pick a lower ranked guy in this year's draft that you think will be better than his ranking. Why'd you choose him?
I think Alex Bridges will be a sleeper, he's a hard worker and think he'll be a sleeper.
    4. What's the first video game you ever played?
WWF Smackdown on PS1 cause I used to follow professional wrestling religiously as a kid.
    5. What is your least favourite genre of music?
Country cause I'm from New England and never could really relate to it lol
    6. Cats or dogs?
I love and have owned both, currently have two cats so consider me team cat! ?
