  1. Of course we can!
  2. Fantastic game with great streaming and live commentary. Big kudos for doing this!
  3. Very meta when you think about it, I like.
  4. @Kiirin, I will spare you my copy-paste. At Saskatoon Wild we're at the back of the league, but with a promising active core, and a humongous amount of draft picks for next season. We have a great locker room (msg me at VerloerneSiege#9910 on Discord to have a peek) and with the changes to going up to VHL we will be a really competitive team next season. Please get inte touch with me or our GM @Peace to have a look at what we have to offer and what we have in store for the future.
  5. Radio host: Good evening VHL! This is Jörgen Elmebeck and you're listening to Night Caller NYC on New York Americans Radio, 98.3 FM. Ending tonight we have a doozy, we have the amazing player that is our star defender at the Americans... Guy LeGrande! [studio staff clapping] Host: Welcome, Guy! Guy LeGrande: Thank you so much. Host: You're leading the Americans in points, blocked shots and who knows what else, and have been top 4 in the league in many aspects, what has laid the ground to this inspired playing this season? Guy: [dry] Never shy away from hard work, never think of yourself as less than anyone else. Good things will follow. Host: Right, but during your life and in the organization you surely have some people to thank? Guy: I have always made my own way. Host: [short silence] DEVY SHAM commercial now!! Right back to Guy LeGrand right after, one of the hottest defenders in VHL! This is NYA Radio 98.3! [Commercial: With Devy Sham, you will not get only one, but three Sham Bulls 7.0 if you buy one! Ladder included to get in, as well as a free tow mirrors that you can't even fold in! [dislcaimer voice] Truck nuts are extra, other fees may be added.] Host: Welcome back, dear listener! So Guy, I know you have to hit practise in the morning and I am sorry our time is so short, I hope we can talk for a bit longer next time. But what can we expect from you and the Americans in the future? Guy: Whatever we have coming to us. Host: [coughs] This has been Jörgen Elmebeck, "The Proto American" on NYA Radio, 98.3 on your FM dial, good night VHL... and wherever you are, Marchand delenda est. @Steve
  6. I didn't mean to imply any of the kind, I was arguing in generalities, I know Esso is a great GM - it's why I signed - I just meant you can probably run in to GMs of that kind, and that's OK. You as AGM have to decide if it's worth staying. It was not a put down on any GM at all, I don't think I have spoken to anyone not deserving of their place this far, just pointing out I am fine with a GM not letting their AGM doing anything (though as GustavMattias said, if you do take on an AGM, show him the ropes, or don't take on one).
  7. Speaking of @Steve's cat pick, has anyone tried to recreate as Hanson brothers and getting on the same team?
  8. SASKATOON WILD Saskatchewan, more than a mouthful. Welcome to the league @jakejohn17! I am the Assistant GM to Saskatoon Wild, and as you have missed the draft you're eligible as a free agent (waiver claim) and can listen to offers from teams interested in signing you. (I was in same position as you during my first season, and I can tell you from experience that it's better to be able to choose your destiny, and that is the freedom you are now offered. ) Here at the Saskatoon Wild (situated in a small town with about 1/4th of the population of the whole of Saskatchewan) we're still building up our roster for the ongoing season, and even though we will probably not finish top of the league standings at the end of the season, I believe that with your addition to Saskatoon we not only will reach the playoffs quite comfortably, but also to overperform when we get there! If you choose to join the Saskatoon Wild, we can offer competitive minutes on the ice from the get go, and a promise that you will have a chance to work your way up the lines during the season if you're dedicated and remain active. We boast a roster full of extremely knowledgeable people with steady resources in our locker room that will take care of you during the season, and the sky is the limit, only determined by your ambition level. Please feel free to ask us questions here on the thread post, as a Direct Message, or you can message our GM or me on Discord, and I do hope you will consider joining us this season! Whatever team you choose, I want you to enjoy your time here at VHL so please feel free to reach out to me regardless of your decision. Good luck in your career and we look forward to watching you perform on a nightly basis! GM @Peace (Discord: MrZPeace#0598) AGM @Elmebeck (Discord: VerloreneSiege#9910)

  10. More seriously, I've been writing down notes about both GM-ship and AGM-ship, and sooner or later I will probably post that as a Media Spot - but perhaps it would be better as a collaborative guide?
  11. Hah, I've always wondered what happens if I click on the red buttons. Good thing I didn't.
  12. AFAIK you can negotiate job pay with you GM, by sharing his. I really have no interest in job pay though, rather write an article to get to my 12 capped TPE (and GM/AGM pay should be capped, and I think it is?); but I think pay is a possibility if you GM is active otherwise and doesn't rely on the job pay. I don't know, but I believe a lot of the trades and such are discussed privately, so it's up to your GM to let you in on that, tell you why he wants to trade like he does or ask for your input. I am not sure though, but like in real life every GM/coach will probably have his way of running the team. It would be neat to at least be part of other channels as read-only or something like that. Like having had the ability to follow rule changes discussions (if all GMs were involved in those - again, had I know those were going on I may have asked my GM to fill me in during the process). The way I have taken my AGM position is that I should 1) help my GM where he wants, asks or needs help, 2) help players by being active in the locker room, answer questions, and generally being a positive force. Also, your GM can't really stop you from being active - but yeah, if my GM held me in the dark, didn't let me do anything, I would probably resign and just focus on my player and the team he is in.
  13. Which editor do you use? One of the better free ones is probably GIMP (though I find it hard to work in being used to Photoshop). I made my sig below in a trial version of Affinity, considering to buy it (it's quite alike Photoshop, not so big differences as GIMP).
  14. 1. After a relatively good start to the season we've been in a bit of a skid, what do you think we need to change to get out footing back? Playing around with the lines perhaps, but I think this is a game of time. We have a huge active roster, pulling in hundreds of TPE every week, we should slowly start to gain steam. 2. What's one area of your game you think you need to improve? Still just the base skills, more defense, more skating, more puck handling. 4. Who do you think has been our season MVP so far? @Steve/Guy LeGrande. 18 assists (6th in league), 23 points (4th best defenseman), 51 shots blocked (4th in league) 6. The program recently tacked on a new AGM to upper management, is there anything the players want to see from him? More unbridled enthusiasm! I will follow answers to this question though as I am AGM to Saskatoon. 8. If you follow the NHL, what team(s)/player(s) are you most excited about this upcoming season? Obviously to see the development of the two possible future franchise Swedes in Elias Pettersson and Rasmus Dahlin. But also to see if Yzerman can turn around my beloved Red Wings (needs more Swedes and Russians, obviously). 9. Have you ever played Ice Hockey outside of the VHL? IRL I was goalie for one season when I was... 16-17 or something, but I sucked and started smoking and soup up moped engines instead. In 1997-2000 I ran a fantasy league we played over modem on NHL 96. Oh, and I also played Hockey-Bockey, it's a Swedish bastardization where you play bandy on a hockey rink.
  15. Week 9/29 Another Wild press conference this sunny day! Despite being last with Ottawa our points per game are actually a lot better than last season, keep trucking on! 1. Do you feel like you're supported in earning weekly TPE, what works well and what could work better? 2. What's your favorite point task out of all that you've tried? Any you haven't tried but would like to? 3. With a few games under your belt now, what attributes do you plan to focus on improving? Or what kind of role are you aiming for overall (i.e. LW power forward, sniper, breakaway skater, etc)? 4. Which NHL team do you root for and why? 5. If you have followed the VHL expansion teams, how do you think they will place at the end of the season? Will any of them, or both, manage to hit the playoffs? 6. What are your thoughts on the VHL so far? What do you like, and what don't you like?
  16. For new link. Claiming my second Doubles week.
  17. I was going to cover this to some degree in my podcast, but seeing as 1) the podcast is not finished, and perhaps 2) a podcast is not the perfect element to do this through, and 3) I feel the need to post a Media Spot, I hope this is a good subject that may help someone. So I am a newbie, one season in VHLM only. When I started it was just so many rules and things to do, a bit overwhelming almost despite a very organized locker room in Houston. Even when I knew what to do I had some problem keeping track of some things. So some of that will be You've gotta be a good earner. Otherwise? Fuggettabout it! Problem #1: What can I do? Every locker room should have a list of tasks and links, with maybe a bit of the rules explained to help out. I don't want to get into that too deep, as well as not explaining capped vs capped TPE, but rather look at it in another way. What can I do, and what is my time investment? I wanted to have a blueprint to follow during the week, depending on if I had lots of time, lots of real world issues like work to deal with, etc. and I came up with this that tried to put the effort needed into tiers and also assigns them an average time cost in minutes. So this was something I wrote for myself last season, I probably spend more than the 30-45 minutes now, but it's an interesting (I think) view on time allotment and the points available Disclaimer: Some rules have changed from S68 to S69, I have tried to incorporate them; but if I have presented anything incorrectly please correct me below or send a DM and I'll edit it. The points are also for VHLM, but the difference to VHL is mainly only 1 point in Practise and you can't join VHLM Fantasy Zone. 2 minutes - 6 - 2 pts Practíce - 4 pts Welfare 3 minutes - 8 - 2 pts Practíce - 4 pts Welfare - 2 pts Trivia 8 minutes - 10 - 2 pts Practíce - 4 pts Welfare - 2 pts Trivia - 2 pts Press conference 16 minutes - 12 - 2 pts Practíce - 4 pts Welfare - 2 pts Trivia - 2 pts Press conference - 2 pts Gfx or article 30-45 minutes - 14 - 2 pts Practíce - 6 pts Media spot - 2 pts Trivia - 2 pts Press conference - 2 pts Gfx or article Fantasy Zone, 2 minutes approx, and a bit of luck - 0-7 - 0-1 pts VHL Pick 'em - 0-3 pts VHL Predict the score - 0-3 pts VHLM Pick 'em Store and first season/once off - 33 - 5 pts First Generation - 10 pts First generation bonus https://vhlforum.com/topic/49868-first-generation-bonus/ - 8 pts Rookie profile - 10 pts Biography These last two is a bit of work to be honest, but worth doing. The rookie profile can be made - as far as I understand it - up until the end of your first VHL season. The biography can be made during any of your eight seasons, but it may provide more bang for the buck early on. Extra credits (some during season if we're lucky, the rest at end of season or when you go to VHL) - Special week doubles etc - 6 pts Trivia entries end of seasons (enter all) - 20 pts when going to VHL at 251 TPE - 10 pts VHL Training camp if drafted to VHL, so I believe this can be claimed at 90 pts or 240 pts as long as you are drafted, might need some clarification from someone that knows how this works, the wording was weird to me Looking at that, and assuming it's somewhat to being close to true in time allotment has given me a sense of that "slacking" is not worth it, I can always get 8-10 points in for almost no effort, and with some luck some Fantasy Zone too. Hopefully this way of looking at it is helpful to someone. Problem #2: Keeping track Second problem was that I started forget whether I had done this or that task. Did I post in the VHL Pick 'Em? Damn, do I have to check my post history? So I just use a text document, you could use Excel/LibreOffice/GoogleDocs, whatever, I find a simple txt-file and lightweight text editor to be quicker and as good to work with. So these are my two last weeks that I input into my document, I put a + before anything I have claimed, I leave the others one row below. I make sure to include the links so that I know where it is, especially for those not claimed yet (like Fantasy Zone, so I know they were submitted and what I submitted). And for 29/9 you can see already have a blueprint for what I hopefully can submit. 15/9 - 27 pts (281) +10 unc TRAINING CAMP IF DRAFTED TO VHL? [link] +2 pts article [link] +2 pts press conference [link] +1 unc practise [link] +6 pts media spot [link] +6 unc double week Other -> "First Gen Doubles - Player Store" [link] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22/9 - 8 pts (289) +2 pts press conference [link] +2 pts article [link] +1 unc practise [link] +1 unc recruitment [link] +2 unc VHL pick em W1 [link] 6 pts media spot (this will be this one) 6 unc double week donation 2/2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 29/9 - 0 pts 6 pts Media Spot 2 pts article 2 pts trivia 2 pts press conference VHL pick em w2 [link] VHL predict the score w2 [link] Problem #3: Creativity So if you believe my time estimates above you'll see there's only 8 minutes difference between 10 and 12 TPE, and I am sadly not a writing coach. But if I could offer one suggestion, try for three weeks to write a fun (to you, foremost) article of 150 words, or do a 2 pts graphic - and maybe that will be one of the things you look forward to doing. Not just for the TPE, but for creativity, integrating with the community and your team. Make mock rivals, nag on your GM putting you on the wrong line, talk about your groin injury. Whatever that seems fun to write, and hopefully for others to read. It shouldn't be a chore. Conclusion I have left out a lot above, you can make podcasts, you can and should review other people's Media Spots, you can enter the Lottery and all kind of stuff. But in the end this is about having fun, so try to find that... And it's also about earning :D, so try to do that too, and as you can see, very little effort can take you quite far every week, like 70% in just 8 minutes... but the good stuff is just beyond those 8 minutes. Request If anyone else has another, better or different system for earning, keeping track, etc I would love to hear it in the comments. Also, my intent is not to gamify, rather getting more players more deeply involved.
