  1. Refurb from apple will usually save you 200-300 depending in the machine and original price. Easily the cost of upgrading just the CPU for example. Definitely worth it in most cases. My iMac was new because I wanted an upgraded CPU and none were available in refurb but my MacBook was refurb and is fine. If you don't want refurb though, are you still in school? University obviously counts too. Apple online has an education discount. It's not as much, 100 or 150 I think, but better than nothing. I would personally go with online from apple. Shipping is free anyway. Futureshop sales people have no idea usually what they're talking about and will try to up sell you. Plus, as I suggested, refurbs are great and those are only from apple.
  2. Personally I would never tell anyone to buy a PC if they believe that a mac is within their budget. To get a PC of equal build quality will cost you the same amount and it will likely last half as long. I've had a macbook for 5 years now (it was a refurb and is actually 6 years old) and an iMac that is going on 3. Both still work as well as the day I got them and run everything smooth. With that, and your budget, in mind I would suggest: Refurbished Macbook Pro. A refurb from apple is exactly the same as a new one but without the pretty box basically. This one isn't the newest on the block, originally released June 2012, but that is still plenty new in a mac world. It also doesn't have an SSD but the hard drive can easily be replaced, just gotta buy an SSD you like. If you want a newer one and don't want to put in the effort, I'd say you'd want a 13" Retina Macbook Pro. Go the low end and boost it up to an i7 and 8GB of RAM. Issue with this is that the RMBP's aren't easy to upgrade yourself and you don't have a dedicated GPU. For the games you described, that wouldn't be an issue at all though. Now that I have that out of the way, I'm gonna give an honest opinion. I love my macs, I wouldn't trade them for windows and never intent on going back. OS X as a system works much better for me. However I do heavy GFX and Video work. In addition my kind of personal workflow fits with OS X. That isn't the case for everyone. For a mac with the specs you want you'll be spending over $1400. Can you get a PC with those specs for less: yes. It will be lower build quality and they will cheap out somewhere (specs does not mean quality, keep that in mind) but it will be cheaper. If you intend on using the computer for anything in the future above what you've described, splurge and get a good MBP. If you don't, and are willing to upgrade sooner, get a PC. I would suggest ASUS personally because they at least won't cheap out on the motherboard. Dell is okay. HP should be avoided IMO as I've never seen an HP board has longer than 4 years and the bloatware is horrendous.
  3. The SMF site got hit with a DDOS attack. We have ideas as to who did it but never really confirmed it. The portal, site, etc was all hosted on the same servers and they locked us out after the attack. We got limited availability back to get a few things off but couldn't grab everything from the board.
  4. Used a Dallas player, secretly hinting that he actually wants me but doesn't want Tukio to feel bad so he gets a sig
  5. And no campaign mode which is honestly a bigger disappointment for me. An idea like Titanfall could have created an amazing original universe. Without a campaign hey really limit that though.
  6. I blame my grammar on that one, it did make it seem like I was in Vancouver.
  7. New Brunswick but Kendrick is right, I was simply referring to the Canadian games.
  8. Off to a great start in Russia: Can't say too much really, our Opening Ceremony in Vancouver wasn't perfect either but we made it work at least.
  9. If I'm not mistaken Simon CLAIMS the client works on Mac. I'd be sending him an email with the issues and seeing if there is a fix. I've had conversations with him before about possibly beta testing a Mac version of the engine and he's a very approachable guy.
  10. It’s been a bumpy ride for the Cologne express but hopefully one that can end in a playoff birth. The Express currently sit just one point behind Conference rivals Vasteras for the final European playoff spot and have arguably a much easier schedule to finish off a season that has seen a large number of roster changes. With poor play and attitudes toward practice running wild in Cologne management has stripped the team down to its essentials, a move that appeared to be setting the team on course for a rebuild but has turned out for the best. Cologne has gone from having no hope to a new light at the end of the tunnel. It may not appear as if they have much life left but they are at least making a push for the playoffs this season. Goaltender Evgeni Chekhov commented on the matter: “It’s been an up and down year for sure. We’ve seen a lot of players leave after being with us for several seasons. If you would have asked me a few weeks ago about the playoffs I wouldn’t have thought it possible but now its looking like we might be able to. It certainly hasn’t been our best season by far but if we’re going to rebuild at least we can try to end on a high note." When pressed for more details on the subject of a rebuild Chekhov refused to comment, stating that its “team business” and they will “handle it as best they can.” One thing is for certain, Cologne’s had a rough season on and off the ice but they aren’t laying down without a fight.
  11. Well now I’m curious what you were asking haha Anyway, went through the amazing wallpapers that Squinty posted and found 6 new ones that I like. Again, not gonna post them all, way too much effort, but here’s my new main one: Also took Mission Control out of my dock since I always use Hot Corners for it anyway.
  12. 2 Monitors + 3 Virtual Desktops (OS X’s most underrated feature IMO) = 6 different wallpapers. I really don’t want to post all of them so I’ll just post my main one (Monitor 1 - Desktop 1) but all of them follow a similar theme. Been meaning to get away from it though so may update later. Some of the ones Squinty posted are really nice. Normally the folders aren’t default but Candybar hasn’t been working for me on Mavericks
  13. Varies depending on your system (OS, power, etc) and what exactly you want to record.
  14. Go for it. So no official winner? We can just claim the submission TPE? Also does this mean I can officially add the other 6 points to double it up from my original PT with the piece?
  15. Where there's a name I never thought I'd see again, one of the few to join before me haha. Welcome back man.
  16. If I recall it's his decision but it has to go through league approval.
  17. There are certainly no current plans for me to take over the team if / when Kendrick leaves; at least none that have been thus far discussed with me. Collier is currently the acting Assistant-GM and would likely take over full control.
  18. Greg, interesting. Maybe I can get past the first round this time.
  19. 21.5” iMac + 21” 1080p HP Display as second monitor 3TB USB 3.0 Western Digital External (Backups) 2TB Firewire 800 Seagate External (Media) Coby Speakers Magic Mouse + Magic Tackpad (never really use the trackpad but it was free) Gaming Mouse On my iPhone or macbook half the time but this is my main “station.” As you can tell, I really need a bigger desk haha. My second monitor is currently sitting on an old night-stand that’s 2 inches taller than the desk. I happen to get lucky and the bezel on my iMac makes the screens themselves line up.
  20. I enjoy that people have finally learned how to spell my name
