Just to keep everyone updated. Kora and I have been PMing back and forth about the skin and we've bounced a few ideas around. He then created a mock up to give me something to work off of for the coding. Keep in mind this mockup still needs a bit of work done and I'm not as experienced with coding IPB so it might not come out exactly like that but it's the look we're going for.

I'm honestly wondering what our options are if the host won't even let 1 person on for a temporary time period. What do they expect people to do in situations like this? I mean I know that they have to protect themselves, I get that, but all they've offered us is a backup that won't fully download for anyone and even if it did likely wouldn't get us anything but behind the scenes stuff. What exactly have they been telling you Sterling?

I had 10 224 on the invisionfree site so I'm going to estimate another like 4k on the SMF site and set my posts to 14 224 (plus the ones I have here already. I'll do it myself, just pointing out what I'm doing.

I do understand in the sense that they are trying to protect their servers from attack which is why they won't let us re-open without paying for the protection but if they are reasonable than hopefully they'll at least allow us to open for a short time, maybe on limited bandwidth, to get our important information. That's true, we could get those.

I don't think the FTP would help, it would just get us server files. Then again, chances are that's all the backup is giving us. Maybe if Sterling fully explained the situation that we're switching hosts for security reasons and just want access for a short while to transfer important documents over. As you said, there's no way that anyone who attacked us is going to notice it's up for a few days and attack again. Chances are we could even have the site listed as offline and just give a few select people the ability to see it in an offline state to move things. That way if the attacker does see it they'll think we shut down anyway.

I feel like the server people would have been able to diagnose that though rather than telling us is was DDOS. Usually a DDOS attack is pretty obvious.

We don't really know any. Even they if they gave us the IP the attack originated from it could easily be a proxy and without our site we have no way of checking if it's a past member anyway. People have a few guesses but at the end of the day none of us really know for sure.

By my guess we'll have to upload it onto a new SMF forum since it's likely encrypted so that only SMF can read the data. Hopefully from there we can transfer everything over.

I understand that but sometimes it's best to hold off and wait to see exactly what we're working with. Plus, in this case, we only have a fraction of the members anyway so there wouldn't be much to do locker room wise. When we have all our main topics and stuff back, then we can consider extra stuff like locker rooms.

I wouldn't expect it as high priority, especially with so many members still missing; it's not really worth doing right now.

Alright so chances are it is the fact that we were all trying to download it which likely fucked with the servers that I doubt are too robust for something like this. So download one at a time guys

From what I've found it used to be doable but they removed the ability in recent updates. I'll look into some hacks for it later because they are pretty small.

That could work. Smarch, do you have any suggestions for getting the download to work? I think for most of us it gets to like 1.5GB and then stops downloading and extracts to like a 2.5GB file.

Yeah, that's not bad. I would just like to know that we CAN get all of our important posts back before we pay anything. $5 isn't much but it would be annoying to pay just to find out that none of the posts exist anyway.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Mobile wise it's way better and in general it seems much more user friendly. Just annoying that we couldn't get everything set before moving like we did with our first forum switch. As a note, will we be able to re-direct our domain here or is it shutdown as well because of the attack?
